~Darkness Rising~

A/N: This Fan Fiction is based on the Galar region and games (Sword/Shield) featuring CanonXOC It based on the GAMES and NOT the anime version.

As the door slammed shut it was dark within. Pitch black even. Candle-lit torches flared bright within in casting light upon the first trial.

"Sister, Anani!" another Dojo student bowed his greeting, to which Anani and Kubfu bowed in return as he stood upright to begin his explaination.

"To walk only on a pather of light, will not help broaden your perspective." he stated, "One must learn to utilize both the light and the dark!" he said, "Balance-of both the Yin and Yang." he said, "Now then...BEGIN!"

It was a one-on-one battle.

And the Poke'mon that he tossed out to start was a Zorua.

"All right Fuukuu." said Anani, "Charge in with Brick Break!"

"Bear maaaaa!"

"Use quick attack!" said the student, and in a flash Kubfu was hit square in the chest, a big mistake for the poor fox however. For upon landing, Zorua was now in Kubfu's hands and a Break-Neck Brick Break attack followed after, which was more than the fox could handle in close quarters. The match was over as it barely began.

"W-With...one move..." he gulped, eyes widened and impressed, "Well..." he smiled, "Light and Dark aside...you have certainly broadened my perspective." he said and bowed his respect before granting them passage to the second floor.

"All right, Fuukuu, nicely done!" said Anani. The bear yipped in pleasant victory before fist bumping with her as they made their way to the stair case.

"Sister Anani!" time, a female student waited at the seconf floor and bowed.

"Sister." Anani bowed.

"Congratulations on making it to the second floor, but you still have a long way up." she said.

"Well I was never expecting it to be easy!" said Anani, "Right, Fuukuu?"

"Bear maa!"

"Good response!" the female student giggled, "For those who are strong in darkness, are also, strong in light." she stated, "I too have traveled the path in darkness, and perfected my strength in light!" she said, "And now I stand here to guide you into doing the same-BEGIN!"

This time the opponent was a Scraggy.

"Go on, Fuukuu!" said Anani, "I know you can do it!"

"Beear maa!"

Both Poke'mon were of fighting nature, and as such that would be expected of Dojo trained Poke'mon, they stood toe to toe in well motioned combat.

"Now is the time, Fuukuu!" Said Anani, thrusting her fist forward, "Use Brick Break!"

"Bear maa!" moving in the exact same action as his trainer partner displayed, Kubfu thrust its paw-fist forward, locking punches with the fighting Scraggy. In its firm grip, Kubfu pulled the rival Poke'mon toward him, and knocked it back with a full force blunt of its strongest fighting move.

The famale student gasped.

"So swift...so forceful...so fluid..." she blinked, "Hmm..." she smiled, "So it would seem that even my own strength perfected in light can also be over shadowed." She sighed in defeat and bowed. In celebratory succession, Kubfu and Anani cheered, each bowing their thanks while they were lead to the third floor, where another student awaited them.

"Hello, and welcome to the third trial, Sister Anani." said the student as he bowed.

"I thank you for your gracious welcome, brother." she said back, bowing politely.

"It seems you and Kubfu have journey far and overcome much together...and it's that hard work that has carried you here, so far." he said, "For we are all lost travelers...each one feeling our way through the darkness around us..."

Anani blinked as her Magenta eyes narrowed and she placed a hand over her slow beating heart. In the back of her mind, a memory played of herself. Alone. Lost in her own darkness within. But suddenly, a new light shone. And when she raised her head up she could see them. The faces of those she has met so far...each one who believes in her in their own rite. The Champion Leon who, without his help, she would never have even begun...let alone journeyed this far. Then There was Marnie, and even Bede smiled in her direction and acknowledged her strength thus far. But the brightest light that shone was Hop, who's hand held forward and she took with no doubts. A Hand of the one person above all else that she knew she chould trust...

And as that image faded into a bright light, she smiled, brought back to reality by the voice of her brother student on the other side of the battle field.

"So...You know this feeling well, I take it?" he smiled.

"Better than you might know." she chuckled and shrugged.

"The journey remains shrouded in darkness until you get where you need to be." he stated, "And that's the same with battling." he smiled, "The results of battles remain hidden in darkness until they are complete." he grinned as he tossed a Poke'ball in his palm, "That's the beauty of it all..." he said with a grin, "Now...let's BEGIN!"

The opponent this time around was an Inkay. A more tricky opponent than Anani and Fuukuu were used to dealing with. But they knew that by believing in each other they could power through anything.

"Now Fuukuu! Use Aerial Ace!" she said.

"Bear Ma bear!"

This move was a fast one. But the opponent's Inkay moved just as quickly. It was a battle of speed, each one smacking the other in high speed combat. The speed battle continued, each one showing its exhaustion and its blacks and blues. And both began slowing down.

Now's as good a time as any...

Anani thought to herself.

"Headbutt! Let's go!"

"Bear!" The small bear let out a gritty growl, and lated its feet firmly into the floor, lunging forward just as Inkay passed before it and with a full on skull bash was able to knock it back against the wall into its defeat.

"Well done!" the brother student grinned and bowed respectfully.

"Thank you." said Anani, "But really, It's Fuukuu that's the amazing one."

"Bear bear bear!" the small Poke'mon yipped and threw itself around her legs while the brother student laughed.

"Maybe so." he said to her, "But you are the one that helped to bring out its potential." he smiled and stepped aside, "Head on up now...You're almost there."

"Thank you, brother." Anani bowed respectfully as she directed Kubfu to follow her one floor up. They had reached the fourth level together. And the higher they moved, the more determined Kubfu would become.

"Wind that carries a ship out to sea is the very same wind that brings it to port..." the fourth student bowed her head to Anani as she stepped into the darkness, light filling the space as she ad Kubfu took their place.

"Welcome, sister." she said to her.

"Thank you, sister." said Anani, "But could you explain what you were trying to tell me with that proverb?" she asked. The female student smiled and nodded.

"It goes on to say...that what shines light on one path can also be what puts another in darkness." she stated, "Now...let us see if you can find your own path forward!"

The Poke'mon she sent out was a Krokorok. A bigger Opponent than Kubfu. There was a time whe the small bear would be startled by such an opponent and wish to hide. But this time he stood battle ready. Unwavering.

Fuukuu...look at you.

Anani thought to herself.

You've become so strong now...

She smiled.

"Let's make sure our path isn;t the one to be shrouded in shadows!" she said, "Go in and use Brick Break!"

"Krokorok, use Protect!" said the student. As the bear rushed in on its target it was bounced back by a barrier toward the back wall.

"Use the wall as leverage, Fuukuu and lunge forward with Headbutt!"

"Bear Bear!" As commanded Kubfu lunged forward off the wall only to be greeted with a swinging whap of Krokorok's tail, knocking it back onto the floor where it bounced off its front paws to land on its feet once again.

"Now use Brick Break!" said Anani.

The female student tried to counter with Protect once again, however once used in succession, its to succeed again decreased a great deal. As such, it couldn't defend against such a powerful fighting type move a second time around. Krokorok rocked on its back legs trying to maintain its balance, but the type advantage gave it a lot of damage and it fell flat.

"I see!" the sister student chuckled, "It seems you two have found your path and are sailing right on course!" she smiled and bowed respectfully, "So your destiny be written!" said the student as she politely stepped aside and directed Anani and Kubfu to the last staircase, "You may proceed to the final floor." she said firmly, "He is waiting for you there."

"He?" Anani blinked and shared her curiosity with her partner Poke'mon, "He is waiting for us, huh?" she said and smiled.

I get the feeling I know exactly who it is waiting up there for us...

"Let's go, Fuukuu." she stated, "The final test awaits..."
"Bear Ma bear!"
