Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Wolf and Reaper. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Mistral.)
Azul was curious enough to check on the supplies. They were one of the few things that he could interact with. He was quite aware that things had changed quite a bit… But he knew for a fact that certain events still required a small amount of examination.
"Why do some of these crates… Oh?" Azul questioned while he cracked his fingers, each claw popping as he did so.
Ruby watched as Azul checked the supply crates. Something was coming, things had been too easy too quickly. It was far too quiet for Cinder to simply stay quiet, and Ruby could tell the woman was up to something.
"You know, he cares a lot more for you if he's stupid enough to fight that guy," Qrow said, looking at his daughter with a raised eyebrow.
Ruby was silent and Qrow could tell the girl was thinking of more than just about Azul. He has stayed in Vale long enough to know it would take months to get things back to normal, months to fix things that could only be done with time.
Nobody could fix Vale so fast. There would be problems that could last year's even if it was done by the time Cinder returned.
"Yeah, and both of you almost got killed doing it." Ruby pointed out as Qrow crossed his arms.
"That's being a hunter, Ruby," Qrow said while looking at Azul. "Even if the kid is stupid? He's got, heart. He held back that guy for a few seconds before he almost got killed." Qrow said as Ruby's eyes narrowed.
He knew there had been a nerve that had been touched. The duo had no end to the issues between them neither seemed to have resolved the more she thought about it… Still? Qrow wouldn't apologize for being blunt. Ruby and the others had almost gotten themselves killed trying to be heroes. It wouldn't have done anything. It wouldn't have saved someone if they kept doing that.
"Why do you constantly act like we're stupid for believing in what's right?" Ruby asked with an eyebrow raised. "You act like we're stupid for caring about anything. Cinder almost destroyed Vale; someone has to stop her before she destroys the rest of the world." Ruby said as Qrow which caused him to shake his head.
"And that isn't going to be you. Qrow hissed as Ruby turned to look at him. "Because this isn't a game, Ruby. He wanted to kill you; Azul knew that well enough to take that fight seriously. What would have happened if he got killed? Would you be ok with your boyfriend being killed if it was going to help people?" Qrow questioned and turned to walk away.
Ruby had time to question what he had said a moment later. Something that caused her to blink and consider what to say.
"No, but we're not just going to give up," Ruby responded which got a sigh from Qrow as he shook his head and looked around with annoyance.
He needed a drink, this couldn't stand… It shouldn't haven't to stand at the end of the day.
"Damn it, Rubes," Qrow stated as he sighed and turned to leave once more. "One day you're going to get hurt… And I'm going to hate myself over it even more." Qrow added, pausing to look around as he took out his flask.
Azul only looked at the man for a second as he turned and left. He didn't want to talk about Qrow's antics when it came down to him. There wasn't much he could even say or do to point it out when he thought about it. Qrow was going to be how he was and that wasn't something he could change. The same went for himself when he thought about it.
"You, ok?" Ruby asked again, taking a closer seat next to Azul who nodded, rubbing at his throat while he paused to look around with confusion.
"Define alright when we're fighting a war that we're in danger of losing, Rubes?" Azul pointed out, looking up at the ceiling as he leaned back on the box, knowing that something sooner or later was going to break.
They couldn't fight Cinder like this and win, there wasn't going to be a fight that they could win with brute force. He started to think about the rest of Remnant, curious about the next move when it came down to it.
Ruby was silent, curious about the next move when it comes down to it. He shook his head as he started to think about Beacon as well. He knew something was going to come up soon enough. He shook his head as he nodded to himself, content to put himself into this training for the rest of the day.
Still? He had a lot of work to do.
