"So, you finally came. I awaited your arrival, human. Now, be grateful for my presence, and bow before me, for I am the Kyuubi!"

"..."

"..."

"You what now?" Naruto's brain was still trying to process everything that was happening, and it proved to be a little too much for our young hero.

The Kyuubi crushed one of its tails hard against the gates, and a strong shockwave sent Naruto further back from the cage. In an angry voice it roared "Do not tempt me, human! Were it not for this prison and I would have slaughtered you where you stand."

"Okay, okay, jeez, no need to get all worked up. I'm the one that has no idea what is going on." the blonde said picking out his ears trying to get his hearing back. 'Huh, who knew a giant demon fox can be so snappy?'.

The said giant fox, now calmed down after that small outburst, just resorted to putting its head on its paws and glaring silently at him.

After a couple of minutes of awkwardness, Naruto was the one who decided to break the silence. "So, what's the deal, I thought that you were supposed to be dead or something?"

The fox stared intensively at him, and then released a breath of hot air from its nostrils that remaindered Naruto of a dog's breath. "No mere human can slay me, no matter how non pathetic he may be."

'That almost sounds like a compliment.' the blonde almost snickered at the thought, but then his face took a more puzzled expression. "Then how did you end up here, wherever "here" is?"

"That chew toy you call Hokage trapped me in your body. We are currently speaking in your mind because I allow it to happen."

Naruto's face turned from quizzical to alarmed just as realization hit him. "Wait a second, so you're telling me we are now in my head and you're in me?" the Kyuubi merely stared at him. "Then, we're like roommates."

Now, the fox has been alive for a while, it has seen the evil and vile, it has tasted what hatred is like, it has seen death and despair. But seeing someone happy given what they have learned, took it by surprise. "Unfortunately, that is the case. Given the fact that you are the vessel for my prison I shall not tolerate any weakness or vulnerability."

"That's so cool!" the prospect of someone so strong helping him excited Naruto. "With you're help, I'm gonna make Hokage in no time, dattebayo!" But a recent memory stopped him from making any more announcements. He looked thoughtful for a second before he spoke again. "Were you the one that helped me earlier?"

The Kyuubi looked intensively with his great eye at the blonde before closing it, and turning its head toward the darkness. "Yes, I couldn't stand how pathetic you were. Now be gone from my presence. I shall seek you when it is my wish."

There was no chance for a reply from Naruto, as all of a sudden he felt being pulled from his subconscious and back to the world above, but not before uttering a single word. "Thanks."

The sun had already risen by the time Naruto woke up. Slowly, he got up from his bed and went to the bathroom. 'Ayame, went already.' he thought a bit sad. He never did like waking up alone, most of the time he was up before she could leave.

After doing his toiletries and taking a shower, he went to take a quick bite to eat and. There, on the kitchen table he saw a bunch of food prepared and packaged and a note that had his sister's writing.

"Good morning, Naruto-kun

Hope you slept well. After what happened last night, and knowing your appetite I thought you might need something to replenish your strength.

P. S. Be a good boy and wash the dishes after you are done."

'Well, that's a bummer, cleaning dishes, the bane of my existence.' he thought with a sigh after putting the note down and preparing to dig into the delicious food that awaits him. "Itadaki..." but was interrupted when a hard knock came on his door.

"Oh, man, if it's not one thing it's another, can't even get a proper meal around here." but the whines died on his lips when, after opening the front door, a strange man, dressed in all black with a mask was the one who welcomed him.

"Uzumaki Naruto, your presence is required with the Hokage." the man stated in a firm tone.

"Ojii-san? What does he want so early in morning?" for Kami's sake, he hasn't even eaten yet.

"It's past noon."

"..."

"..."

Naruto's growling stomach was the one that broke the silance. "Fine, we can go, but let me grab something quick before." He rushed to the kitchen, put everything in a bag, including some of the leftover cake, and then back to the front door. "All done!"

The man placed a hand on the blonde's head, and in a swirl of leaves they were gone.

Hokage tower

It was done. He had spent all night, and some of the morning, but he was now, finally, done. Those Kami forsaken papers were finished. Now he could take a few moments and relax, enjoying his pipe, and watching the village run its course from the window.

At least that's how one might think they would find the Third Hokage in his office. But the truth was, that Hiruzen was anything but relaxed. His mind was full of worries and he was stress smoking so much that it was becoming hard to see anything in the office.

A knock on the door and his secretary entered. "Hokage-sama, there's someone..." and just like that her words turned into a coughing spree. She went and opened a window, breathing in some fresh air, before speaking again. "Hokage-sama, there's someone that you wished to see, wanting."

"Let him in."

The secretary nodded and left the office. After about two minutes, a mop of blonde hair could be seen entering through the door, wearing a bright smile and a positive attitude. "Hey, jiji, how you doing? Ah, still old, I see."

He tried keeping his face straight, but he couldn't hold it for long as a small chuckle escaped his lips. 'Nothing ever gets you down, eh Naruto-kun?' clearing his throat he went straight to the business. "I'm afraid that the matter for which I brought you here is rather serious, my boy."

Naruto could see the seriousness in the face of the man in front of him, he wasn't his jiji now, no, he was all Hokage mode and stuff. Also, his growling stomach didn't make the situation any better. "Sorry, never got the chance to eat, do you mind?" the blonde said with a sheepish grin.

Sarutobi decided to just indulge him. "Go ahead." and just like that it was on. In a matter of minutes almost all the food that Naruto brought with him was gone, except for a single slice of cake that was left on his desk. "Now that you are finished, we will have to talk about some very important things. Do you understand?" Naruto nodded. "Good. Firstly, what can you tell me about what happened last night?"

Thinking for a moment, the blond replied. "Some bad guys were mean to me and Ayame-nee, so we beat them up and then we left." Naruto could swear that at that moment it felt like the hokage was trying to read his mind with his eyes.

"Anything else that I should know about?" now he was starting to sweat, he never knew the old man could stare so heavily, it was like he was adding more weight under each word.

In the end he was not strong enough and he just cave in and told him everything. "When we were attacked I felt this strange power in me, but I blacked out and woke up in a giant sewerage, there I met thi giant fox, he told me he was the Kyuubi and that we are roommates in my body." well, now he said it, it's done.

Hiruzen sighed deeply and brought the pipe to his mouth and took a long puff of some. "It is just like I have feared. Tell me, Naruto, what did the fox want with you?"

"Nothing much, really, just to get stronger and don't be an embarrassment."

"Naruto, do you know how the Kyuubi end up in you?" the Hokage questioned.

The blonde scratched his head in thought. "Because he is more badass than the Yondaime?"

Hiruzen rubbed his temple slightly, feeling a headache coming. "Let me tell you a story that I have never shared with you before. It all happened on the the night of October 10th, the day you were born to be precise. On that faithful night, out of nowhere, the demon fox attack. We tried everything, hundreds of people, shinobi lost their lives. Were it not for the Forth, the village as a whole might have been destroyed.

But the story does not end there. Minato, in all his greatness, and with all his power, he could never kill the Kyuubi. And so, he knew there was only one way, only one option to protect the village and save the people. He had to sacrifice his life, using a forbidden technique, to seal the nine-tailed into a new born baby. Naruto, that baby was you."

To say that something might make Naruto go silent was rare, was and understatement. That boy had more energy and a cat caught in the shower. But here he was, being silent, with his head bent down.

After contemplating for some time, he finally shock his head and brought out one of his megawatt smiles. "Of course it was me! It had to be me, I'm gonna be the next Hokage. Who else but me can take this great task? I am Naruto Uzumaki, dattebayo!" he announced standing on the desk and pumping up his chest.

Sarutobi could only watch in awe and wander. A kid so young, understanding his burden and accepting that which has been given to him. Never being pulled into hate, always shining brighter then the sun. 'If you could see him now, Minato. He may just be better than us all.'

He was brought down to earth pretty fast, as Naruto never could stand still for too long. "Hei, ojii-san, are you still alive? Has my awesome been to much for you?" that would be bad, he didn't know if someone could become Hokage, if he had killed the previous one, even is by accident.

"Yes, I am good, just thinking about the past, musing about the future. But never mind that. If you want to become stronger and protect your home, I will help you with that, as much as I'll be able to." he admitted with a small smile.

"Yaataaa!"

'Today was a good day.' that was what was inside Naruto's head as he was walking out of the Hokage's tower. He got to meet someone strong that was, surprisingly enough, living inside him. He learned about his duty, the thing that only he can do to protect the village. And he is about to become much stronger and show everyone just who he is.

"I've got to go visit nee-san, and tell her everything that has happened today, and maybe get treated with some ramen." Just the thought of that delicious substance made his mouth drool.

He was about to get in the direction of the restaurant when suddenly he stopped, an idea forming in his head. A menacing and terrifying idea, so much so, that everyone in the village started shivering. "With great power, comes great pranking potential." And so he laughed, a maniachal laugh that promised nothing good.

Back at the Hokage tower

The Hokage was happily enjoying the slice of cake left to him by Naruto, but stopped when he almost chocked between the bites. "I got the feeling that I may have unleashed something truly horrific to the world."
