Part 1- Chapter 1: One Month Later

The pain from their injuries after facing the acolytes coursed through their veins. The inability to move as Lord Dracul held them suspended in the air above the ground of the dias as he held them with the force. The Holocron sat before the Dark Lord, now complete as Dracul stole the last remaining fragment from Oppie. Sasha couldn't believe it. This was going to be the end of them as Dracul was finally going to bring his plan to fruition. Then the red lightning shot from Dracul's fingertips and flashed at Oppie, ready to pierce his heart. But the lightning had no effect, instead it bounced off something around Oppie's neck and hit the Holocron and flashed back at Dracul.

Suddenly, the scene shifted in the blink of an eye. They were no longer on the dias but the shuttle. Sasha rushed to the opening and watched as the holocron exploded. Then she felt it again. That punch to her chest as if someone ripped her heart out as she watched Oppie die. She called out to him, but her voice was nearly silent compared to the explosion.

"Oppie!" Sasha cried out as she awoke with a gasp. Sweat and tears caking her face.

She sighed as she collapsed back against her bed, her arms over her face. It was that nightmare again. For the past month, Sasha got hardly any sleep as she kept seeing that tragic day over and over again every night. She practically avoided sleep for the first week due to the nightmare, and that resulted in her nearly making herself sick such that Viran had to force her to rest. But that didn't change as the days went by. She did get more sleep, but the nightmare never left her alone. Oppie's death was still so fresh in her mind that it might not leave her alone anytime soon.

After the explosion, Sasha and Viran had shared tears as they wept for the loss of their brother. However, more ships from the dreadnought started to make their way down to the surface to investigate the ordeal that just happened. Viran took that as the opportunity to get them out of there before they could be captured again. They then traveled through hyperspace for hours until they were safely in the middle of nowhere, but away from Dracul's forces. Even with them gone, they couldn't risk anything. While they had traveled they had patched up each other's wounds and had to figure out their next course of action. They had decided to resupply themselves and look for somewhere to lie low for a while. That's when they stumbled upon the planet Batuu.

They had landed at a small outpost on the planet and were able to refuel and resupply there. In fact, it was so remote, they stayed there almost three weeks longer than they were planning. The reason for that is due to the local innkeeper having taken a liking to them as she was the one kind enough to see to their injuries and gave them someplace to rest. But everyday they were there, Viran was aboard the shuttle making repairs or modifications to It or just clearing out the ISB junk. Sasha guessed it was something to keep his mind busy so he didn't fall into a depressed state of mind thinking about Oppie. While he did that, Sasha remained at the inn and ended up helping the old innkeeper with small tasks and chores. They didn't have much for money to pay for their stay or food, so helping around the inn paid for it. Besides, Sasha hardly had the energy at the moment to help Viran or do anything more than just mundane tasks as her mind wouldn't stop thinking about Oppie. Almost every little thing reminded her of him and it drove her crazy.

As for Viran, he was also taking the loss of Oppie hard. He didn't seem as energetic as he normally would. He still made jokes to help Sasha feel better, but she could tell that he was just as lost as she was without Oppie. Viran seemed distant yet closer than ever to her during this past month. Distant when he was alone and he thought no one was watching he would just get lost in his own mind, but closer when they were together by making sure she was okay and sitting with her, holding her close. Things like that. She welcomed it, but also gave the same in return to him as he needed comfort from time to time too. Unlike the loss of their friends when they were younglings, they needed each other more than ever to boost each other up or just support each other.

But just a couple days ago, Viran had approached Sasha and told her that they should be leaving Batuu as now that they were healed and restocked it was time for them to move on. It was to where they would go that they didn't have the answer to. As much as Sasha didn't want to leave, she knew they had to. It just didn't feel like home to her. So this was to be their final night on the planet.

Sasha dropped her arms and stared up at the ceiling of her room. The dim light of the night shined through the curtains and illuminated the space. Sasha then turned her head toward the adjoining door that connected her and Viran's room together. She really wanted to see his face as she wasn't feeling up to being alone at the moment. Pulling off the covers and sliding out of the bed, Sasha walked over to the bedroom mirror. She looked her reflection over. She had dark circles under her eyes and the faded white marks on her cheek from Cien's claws all but vanished. They both had scars after the battle. The one on Viran's back was the worst one of all and had taken longer to heal. In fact, Sasha would ask to check on it from time to time to make sure it was healing. It was, but the scar was so large compared to the smaller ones they both had. The lightsaber burns left scars too. But the biggest scar was Oppie's death. That scarred their hearts and their minds.

Shaking her head, Sasha cleared her mind and headed for the door. She laid a gentle knock against it. There was no response at first, then the door flew open. Sasha was startled to see Viran awake at this hour and with the lights on in his room. She squinted at him as she waited for her eyes to adjust. He was normally sound asleep by now and she would just let herself in if she needed to talk to him in the past. Seeing him up and wide awake threw her off.

"Hey. You okay? Is it the nightmare again?" Viran asked with a frown.

"When is it not," Sasha said with a nod.

Viran stepped aside. "Come on in then."

Sasha stepped into his room and made her way over to his bed. She noticed a strange pile of miscellaneous things strewn about on the floor.

"What's all this?" She asked as she took a seat on the bed. "Is this why you are not asleep?"

Viran nodded. "These were just the last of the items of the shuttle," Viran said as he came over and sat next to her. "I was just going through them before I decided to get rid of any of it or not. And I couldn't sleep anyway. I may not have nightmares like you, but it really hasn't been easy to sleep since that day."

"I know, but yet you make it look so effortless. I can't go one night without seeing it all happen again. Feeling the pain all over again. And then struggling to sleep for the rest of the night. It hasn't been this bad since Order 66," Sasha said in an exhausted tone.

"I know," Viran replied in a similar tone. "But we can get through this as long as we have each other. Cause I'm not going anywhere without you." Viran wrapped an arm around her shoulders as she laid her head against him.

Sasha nodded then changed the subject. "Well, did you find anything interesting?" Sasha asked as she eyed over the items.

"Yeah, I found a couple of things," Viran said as he moved his arm to reach behind him and produced a stack of clothes. He handed them to Sasha. She gasped at the sight of them as she recognized them to be Oppie's. She took them into her lap to look them over. "I found these tucked away in one of the compartments under that unused bunk."

Sasha was silent as she placed her hands on top of the jacket that laid on top of the pile. "I can't believe it's been a month," Sasha started after a moment as she ran her hands over the fabric in her lap. "I miss him, Vir." She felt her eyes welling up, but there were no more tears to cry.

Viran nodded. "Me too, Sash."

As Sasha looked over the clothing, she heard something as she held Oppie's jacket up, something that sounded like the crinkling of paper. As Viran looked curiously over her shoulder, she reached into the pocket and pulled out a crumpled note, unfolding it to see a message written with poor handwriting. As they read over it, Viran started to laugh. Sasha looked at him like he was losing it.

"What's so funny?" Sasha asked.

"Why did I not think of him before?" Viran said more to himself than to her as he grabbed the note from her fingers.

"Who?!" she asked, trying to get the note back.

"The bounty hunter. The Mandalorian, Kyr," Viran said as he shook the note. "He and Oppie were close. He could help us out. Help us restart without fear of the Empire or whatever remains of Dracul's forces."

"Can we trust him?" Sasha asked unsure.

"If it wasn't for him, I never would have known to take you to Polis Massa. Because of him, I was able to get you medical care. I also think he is the reason Oppie had that ISB shuttle," Viran went on. "We can trust him. Besides, we don't have many choices anymore." He frowned at that last part.

"If you and Oppie both trust him, then we should go find him," Sasha said, still a little unsure.

Viran wrapped his arm back around her and pulled her close. "Don't worry. He can help us. We will take off in the morning for Artemis. For now, though, you should try and get some rest. Meditate if you have to, but you look ready to pass out."

Sasha nodded with a sigh and stood from the bed, still holding at least Oppie's jacket in her arms. The remainder of his clothes were left on the bed. Viran stood and escorted Sasha back to the adjoined door. Before she returned to her room, she gave him a one armed hug that he used to place a gentle kiss on her forehead. She thought nothing of it as he had been doing the gesture more frequently in the past couple weeks as a way of helping her calm down and relax.

"Good night, Viran," she said as she reached for the door.

"Good night, Sash," Viran responded.

As she pulled away, she disappeared into her dark room, closing the door shut behind her. She then returned to the edge of her bed. Sasha didn't know how long she sat there staring at his jacket before she fell asleep from the pure exhaustion.
