Chapter 15: The doctor will see you now

They took a much needed rest for a few hours while Mike recovered. They munched on snacks and sipped on soda as they listened to Mike mumble in his sleep.

"Hehehe. That's kinda cute." Chara said as she watched.

"Has he always done that?" Mono asked. Frisk scratched her head.

"I'm not sure... Everything from before is still fuzzy... maybe? Hmm..." She thought for a few moments. "Nope. Sorry. Nothin."

"Hmm... Well, I hope we figure it out. I can't imagine how it feels... waking up in this kind of world."

"I mean... It's been pretty scary... But at least we're not alone." Chara replied.

"Yea... That's how I was... I woke up in a field... alone... scared and confused... But then I found Six." Mono glanced at Six, who perked up once she heard her name.

"What do you want?" She asked.

"Nothin. Just trying to pass the time. Talk. Things like that."

"I guess we got nothing better to do." Using this rare occurrence of Six speaking, they talked back and forth about life, the city, the monsters, what their plan is, and anything else that came to mind. Eventually, Mike awoke and joined them in their idle chatter, feeling much better and refreshed than before. They bonded pretty well under the lone, dim light above them. They made merry for a good long time, almost forgetting their troubles entirely and just relaxing in each others company. That is... until the room darkened.

"Uh... wasn't it a lot brighter...?" Mono asked.

"It was... who turned off the light?" Frisk said as she looked around. Other lights were on, so the power didn't go out. It just seemed like theirs was the one to turn off. They pondered why for a moment, before a glob of thick, wet nastyness fell from above. They all froze and blinked before slowly looking up. There, stuck to the ceiling, was the swollen, bloated face of the doctor, peering down at them with sick curiosity. Chara screamed and made a run for it, promoting the others to do the same. They all dashed madly to the nearest exit, only for the doctor to cut then off. Though he was crawling on the ceiling, he was very fast. They could not outrun him, so they had to resort to outmaneuvering him. As the doctor stretched out his arm to grab at them, they quickly rolled out of the way and rushed through the door. The doctor growled in frustration and gave chase. The room they retreated into turned out to be a bathroom, with a drain big enough for them to fit into. As such, they hopped right in with little regard as to where it sent them. The doctor tried to shove his fat sausage limbs into the grate, but to no avail. He roared in frustration as the group went on their impromptu water slide. Once they popped out the other end, they found themselves right below a large bathing room. Which sounded about right. Mono and Mike worked on getting the grate opened and the five of them slipped out and took a moment to catch their breath.

"What the heck was that?!" Frisk asked.

"I guess we know who's been making these abominations." Six replied.

"We need to be more carful from now on... I doubt this will be the last time we meet the good doctor." Mike said. The others nodded and gathered their bearings. There was only one opening, so, without many options, they gathered themselves and marched forward, none to anxious to meet their new adversary again. But as with everything else in their journey, nothing can be easy. As soon as they stepped out of the washroom, they noticed the doctor was already there, but he hadn't noticed them yet. In fact, he was busy washing his hands while whistling a tune. After he finished, he crawled over to a bed which housed a poor unfortunate soul. The doctor then began tugging and yanking on its limbs for reasons unknown. "Well... He keeps himself cleaned... That's a thing I guess..."

"Sure, because hygiene is enough to redeem himself for his atrocities." Chara said as she rolled her eyes.

"Point taken."

"We need to take this seriously. Look, those beds, we can hide under them. There's no way he can see us if we hide under them. You all ready?" Mono asked. The others nodded and knelt down, ready to sneak their way past the doctor. Mono readied himself and took point, ready to lead them to safety. He rushed towards the nearest bed just before the doctor came back to wash his hands. He noticed that at this angle, the doctor wouldn't see them, so he quickly ushered the others to join him. The other four, as quickly as they could, snuck towards Mono. The last in line made it under the bed just in time for the doctor to turn around and return to his patient. Mono sighed and rushed to the next bed, then the next. Again, the doctor went to wash his hands, so Mono ushered for the others to come, which they did. However, the doctor seemed to have forgotten something, causing him to turn bback. This forced the four to stop dead in their tracks in the bed where they were. Unfortunately, Frisk wasn't fast enough to tuck her legs in. This caught the doctors attention just enough to make him curious. The doctor approached and hovered over the bed. He then grabbed the sides of the bed, ready to lift. The four gasped quietly, not sure what to do and far too afraid to run. Mono could only watch in mounting horror. Mike's mind raced a mile a minute, which only furthered the pain in his head due to his last injury. But through the pain and panic, he got an idea. Mike quickly took off towards where he came from. The others tried to stop him, but couldn't. Mike made sure to be as noisy as possible, but not too noisy. He wanted to be loud enough to cause intrigue, but not loud enough to spark alarm. Fortunately, that's exactly what happened. The loud footsteps caught the doctors attention so he dropped the bed and investigated the noise Mike was making. Using this distraction to their advantage, the others ran to Mono.

"He's trapped over there! What do we do?!" Frisk asked. Mono gulped and looked around. He breathed heavily, the stress getting to him, the panicked voices of the others, the sounds of the doctor searching for Mike, and a random annoying beeping.

"Wait... beeping?" Mono looked back and noticed a heart rate monitor nearby. "Hmm..." Mono then ran and quickly unplugged the device. The sound of flatlining instantly triggered the doctor, who immediately abandoned his search for Mike and sped to the patient. This gave Mike more than enough time to regroup with the others.

"Much obliged." He said

"Smart thinking dude." Chara complimented. Mono nodded and said that won't keep him busy long. They nodded and quickly ran out the door on the other side of the room and closed it behind them.

"Wow... That was stressful..." Frisk said between shaky breaths.

"Tell me about it... I hope we never meet that guy again." Chara said as she walked off, not paying attention to where she was going. The others tried to warn her, but too late, she knocked over a small stand, which crashed into a much larger stand holding several glass bottles. These things all came down and made a massive noise that could even wake the dead. "...sorry..." She mumbled. But it was too late to apologize. The doctor burst through the door and let out an enraged roar as he descended upon them.
