Chapter 16: ...or a lowly weeper. A mighty lion...
"Run!" Mono commanded. And just in time too, for the fat doctor missed them by mere inches as he landed on the ground. Annoyed with his failure, the doctor leapt back up to the ceiling and preceded to chase them. And so they ran. Ran through the halls and the medical equipment and the debris. Fortunately, all this stuff and refuse slowed the doctor down significantly. However, this same randomness that helped them can also harm them, as the doctor pushed past it all, it ran the risk of crushing them if they were too slow. So not only did they have to outrun the doctor, but consequentially, they had to outrun their own mess as well. But they had no time to dwell on these facts, survival was all that was on their minds and not much else.
"Duck!" Six called out as the doctor threw a scalpel at them, which narrowly avoided Frisk's neck. She nodded in thanks and kept running, now having to dodge whatever the doctor could get ahold of. Between the running, screaming, doctor bellowing, haunted hallways and general atmosphere, they were pretty stressed, and they had no idea how to get out of this situation. The doctor was pissed now, so much in fact that he was now extremely relentless and single minded in getting them. Every time they tried to hide in a room, he burst down the door and found them easily. Each time they'd take a patient off life support, the doctor wouldn't care. They were running out of options, running out of places to hide, running out of stamina, and running out of time.
"What do we do?!" Chara demanded as dhe barley dodged a catheter. "Ew..."
"I don't know! Maybe we can..." Mono began, but just then, they all came to a strange open room. There was an elevator off to the side, but it was useless to them because it was not in their level, but there was something in there that they could use. An incinerator. "Guys! I got an idea! All we need to do is-" But again, he was interrupted. This time, by the ding of the elevator. Suddenly, everyone stopped, even the doctor. They all watched as the elevator made its slow decent down to them. They stared at the small needle indicating where the elevator was all the way until it became physically visible. And once it reached bottom, they saw clearly who... or what... was in it. It was a tall, dark, cloaked figure that was wearing garments on every piece of its body, hiding its bare skin from them, all save for its face, but its hood, and the fact that it was so dark, prevented them from seeing it, but they could see where its hood moved and they could tell what it was looking at. And at this moment, this being was staring directly at the doctor, who was staring right back. No one made a sound for the longest time. The group was shocked and taken aback, this being which had killed the teacher earlier was back. What did it want? Why was it here? The doctor didn't seem to care, he was just angry for being interrupted from his hunt. The doctor lunged at the figure, but as fast as light left a room with a shattered bulb, the figure had the doctor by his neck just as ffast. The doctor gasped and sputtered and tried using his meaty sausage fingers to free himself, but to no avail. The figure had its prey in its grasp, and there was no escaping. Slowly, yet methodically, as if simply taking care of a chore, the figure dragged the doctor over to the furnace and threw him in as if he were trash to be disposed. The figure then slammed the door and turned the furnace on. The figure watched for a few moments as the doctor roasted alive and slowly turned to ash before turning to face the children, only to see that they had quickly retreated to the elevator and began taking it up while it was distracted. The figure simply watched them leave as the sounds of scream died down and the smell of burning flesh and hair filled the air. Soon, the figure was out of sight and they were on their way towards the surface. Nobody spoke the whole way up, not until they exited the elevator, not until they left the cursed building. Only then, did they speak.
"That... Thing..." Frisk mumbled.
"What's its deal...?" Six added.
"I don't know..." Mono replied. "But... It helped us out, whether or not it intended to... I don't like how it looked at us as we left... and I really don't want to meet it again..."
"Such strength... to be able to so effortlessly deal with that doctor..." Chara murmured...
"Either way..." Mike said. "We probably shouldn't hang out around here... for a couple of reasons..." Mike gestured towards the pale city in front of them. They were in the heart of it now, and there was no telling what demons lurked within. They felt closer though. Closer to... something... answers? They weren't entirely sure, but what was ahead of them couldn't possibly be worse than what they've been through... right?
