Chapter 22: ...We're equal in the eyes of the Reaper
It took them a short while to navegate the labyrinth of pink and twisted hallways, but once they stumbled apon Mono and Chara... They beheld an astonishing sight. They saw Mono and Chara next to Six and she... she...
She looked okay.
"You guys okay? We heard a screamed... Is that Mono? Frisk said. Mono looked at her and smiled.
"Yep. I uh... I took my bag off... It's been an eventful couple of hours."
"You could say that again." Mike added. The next few minutes consisted of Mike, Mono and Chara explaining to Frisk and Six what they went through to find them, then Frisk and Mike explaining what they just went through, finishing with Chara and Mono explaining how they dealt with Six. At first, they thought they needed to smash the music box to free Six, but turns out, no. Six was trapped in that room alone for so long... what she really needed was a friend... They sat around and played with the music box until eventually Six slowly turned back to her normal self.
"Huh. Strangely wholesome... Minus the elongated broken limbs." Frisk replied.
"Says the fratricidal psycho murderer." Six retorted.
"That's fair."
"Well, now that that's over... What do we do?" Mike asked.
"Uh... well... We're in the tower now... I guess we look for answers?" Mono replied with a shrug. The others nodded.
"Seems a good a plan as any-" all of a sudden, the walls around them began to rumble. "What was that?" Chara asked. The walls rumbled again. It sounded like something large was barrelling through the rooms.
"We shouldn't stay here." Mono murmured. "We should go-" Suddenly, the walls next to them burst open and a dark figure stood there in the dirt and rubble. It slowly looked at them and although they couldn't see the figure's eyes, they knew it was staring directly into their souls. The group of kids and the figure stared at one another for more than a few seconds. But when the figure made the first move to approach them, the walls began to crumble and burst more, but with a new adversary. It seemed like... piles of flesh and eyeballs were oozing out of the walls and crushing them, trying to get at the group. It was going after the kids and the dark figure, it was not picky who it consumed.
"What the heck is that?!" Mike exclaimed.
"I don't know but it's not friendly! Run!" Mono commanded. And so they did. There was no fighting this thing. It was huge and it was hungry. It was an unstoppable force and the only option they had was to flee. Fortunately, they saw the exit from the broadcasting tower... but unfortunately, they had many an obsticals to pass by first. Between random rubbish they had to climb, or the caves in walls, or the flesh monster, or the dark figure, they had more than their fair share of trials. The good news was all this obsticals were also a problem for the dark figure, slowing its movement and allowing them to keep their distance, and the wall of flesh was just slow due to its massive size. They all raced toward the exit and for a moment, it almost seemed like they were going to make it, until the dark figure caught up to them and grabbed ahold of Frisk and Mono.
"No! Let us go!" Frisk screamed as she beat on the figures hand. It began to bring them towards itself, but then it felt pain in its legs. It quickly looked down to see. The others: Mike, Six, and Chara, all beating on it with anything they could get their hands on; nailed planks, legs of chairs, hammers. They all pummeled the dark figure until it dropped to its knees. It tried to defend itself, but they kept hammering at its sides, its chest, arms, hands, head, anything to force it to let go of their friends. They had gone through so much and came so far, they would not lose anyone now, not to some jerk in dark clothes. The figure eventually lost its grip and let the kids go, and while the others picked them up and helped them to run away, the figure was quickly consumed by the wall of flesh. They sighed a bit as one of their problems were dealt with, but they lost a lot of ground in that fight: they had to move fast. There was little more than a thin crumbling bridge keeping them from their salvation. They all charged across it as fast as they could as it crumbled under them. As Six, Frisk, and Chara charged ahead, Mono got tripped up by a falling stone that had struck his head and knocked him down. Mike skidded to a halt and ran back to help Mono up. He groaned in pain as Mike helped him to the exit. He ran as fast as he could with Mono, but the ground was crumbling under them fast, there was now a large gap between their life, or their death. He begged Mono to jump as best he could and together, they jumped, but it wasn't enough. Mono of course couldn't jump that far because of his injury, but Mike managed to grab ahold of him before he felt into the abyss, unfortunately, Mike also came up short and missed the ledge, only managing to grab onto the edge. He held on as tight as he could, but his grip was slipping fast. But just as his grip failed him, he was grabbed by Six, who stared down at them both.
"Six! Help! Pull us up!" She continued to stare at them as he begged, studying them. Thinking. Mike stared back at her, but before anything else happened, two more pairs of hands joined Six, it was Frisk and Chara. With their combined strength, they easily managed to pull Mike and Mono to safety. They sat their and rested for a moment to let the adrenaline leave their system. Once it had, they all, together, headed towards the exit. But... the wall of flesh had other ideas. A tentacle of biomass slammed down on the bridge and collapsed it, sending all of them into the void and plummeting right into the piles of flesh and eyes below. But just before they struck it, a dark hand burst forth out of the flesh, followed soon by a head. The face they saw was one that had seen many horrors, its eyes seared white by the terrors and no hair to speak off. This figure... the dark figure... it stared up at them as it slowly began to sink back into the mass of flesh.
"Break the cycle." It said to them. This being spoke to them. The only words they had heard other then their own... and it wasn't hostile... what did this figure mean? This whole time... could it be that... It was trying to help them? It never actually did anything to harm them... But they could not ponder this for long. The dark figure clenched them securely in its fist and slammed it into the flesh. They were blinded by flashes of light, followed immediately by foreboding and endless darkness.
