Chapter 25: Bloodsuckers

When Mike finally awoke, he noticed that the others were already up and about, chatting amongst themselves and nibbling on what looked like bread.

"Mornin, sleeping beauty." Frisk said as she offered her groggy brother some bread.

"How long have you guys been awake?" He asked as he took a few bites.

"About an hour or two... kinda hard to tell, but Six started having uh... some trouble while we slept."

"Define trouble."

"Well," Mono started. "She had some serious hunger pains... Like, they were awful. I'm surprised her growling stomach didn't wake you." As he spoke he took a few bites out of his slice of bread. "It ended up getting so bad she could barely walk. Luckily, we were right next to a cafeteria-like place and there was plenty lying around so we took as much as we could carry and came back."

"Thank's again guys... I thought my belly was going to split in two..."Six mumbled as she scarfed down a few slices. Seems her hunger was still present, but she was managing it. "I... I don't know if this is the last time this will happen..." She added. Mono softly patted her back and smiled.

"Then it's a good thing we got so much, right?" Six nodded and smiled as she finished her meal.

"So, where are we off to next?" Mike asked as he stood up and dusted some crumbs off his clothes.

"Well... we keep pushing onward... not much else we can do." Chara replied. "These pipes and vents should help us travel around for the most part... But I think we'll have to leave sooner or later. I just hope that long armed freak doesn't come back." She finished her last sentence softly and with a slight grumble.

"Even if it comes to that, we're a team. We can watch each others backs and keep an eye out." Mono stated. He began to speak more, but he noticed the group started to stare at him strangely. "...What's wrong guys? Got something in my teeth?" They shook their heads and pointed to his shoulder. He blinked and glanced to his left, only to be met with a black viscose blob resting by his neck. Naturally, he screamed and quickly pushed the thing off of him and ran to join the others. But... the thing didn't react too badly. Upon hitting the ground, its 'head' slowly looked up at them, almost in curiosity. Mono stared at the thing then looked at the others.

"It... doesn't seem dangerous." He mumbled.

"Yea... Its so tiny. There's no way it could hurt us." Six added.

"Ya know, it's almost kind cute even-" But just as the word left Six's mouth, the creature opened it's own mouth and brought forth rows upon rows of razor sharp teeth and it lunged at them. Her scream was cut short once the slithering slug wrapped itself around her body and neck and immidiatly began to crush the life out of her. She was so constricted that she couldn't even let out a whimper. Her teary eyes looked at the leech, who's mouth was wide open, ready to take a bite out of her face. But unknown to the leech, she had a secret weapon. She managed to reach into her pocket with great difficulty and grab her lighter, which she then flicked and stuck it as close to the monsters flesh as she could. The ear-splitting screech of the leech nearly burst their eardrums but Six didn't stop frying it until it released its grip and fell to the floor, writhing in pain. The blood quickly rushed back to Six's head and the differential caused her legs to buckle and send her falling, but Mono managed to grab her before that happened and took her to safety and allow her to recover. Meanwhile, Mike stomped on the leeches head while Chara stabbed at it and Frisk beat it with whatever she could get her hands on. Eventually, the leech curled up one last time as the life left its body. They all took a moment to recuperate from the traumatic experience, but it wasn't to last. One by one, more of those things dripped onto the floor and perked their heads at them. They all screamed and ran as the leeches charged at them. Though they didn't have legs, they were nearly as fast as they were. They managed to keep space between them and the black cylinders of constriction, but their massive numbers made it hard to avoid them. Eventually, the kids came to a rather large gap in the way. The boards and rods holding the two platforms together split apart an unknown time ago and now what was once a convenient bridge was now a deathtrap if they missed, but also their salvation if they made it across. Admittedly, it wasn't as bad as it seemed, the jump itself wasn't anything they couldn't handle. In fact, they all made it across easily, not even coming close to the edge. Looking back, most of the leeches stopped dead in their tracks, knowing they couldn't make it. A few couldn't stop in time and plummeted down into the dark depths below. However, there was one who jumped at them, its teeth bared and aimed right at Momo's face as it lunged through the air. Mono simply rolled his eyes as the ambitious beast came up short and joined its brethren in the darkness.

"Well. That was idiotic." He said before exhaling the breath he was holding and held his chest, feeling his heart race. "Whew... Everyone okay?" He asked and he looked around at his friends, checking up on them. They all let him know they were no worse for wear.

"My chest still hurts and my eyes are still watering, but I'm fine." Six said. They all nodded and took one last look at the leeches, who were still waiting there, before pushing forward. Turns out the walls and vents weren't the best place to rest. They continued to push onward in search of a spot to properly rest their weary bones.
