Chapter 1 - The Onboarding
"And this is where you'll be spending most of your time," Fae held a door open to an office, filled with funky cubicles with employees rushing around, some loud, some with headphones in, glued to their computers. It was busy and full of life yet seemed drab all at the same time.
"Thanks," Addison was a new recruit at Wolfram and Hart as a public relations agent, working directly with clients and reporting to the senior partners.
"This is Stevie Evans, Stevie? Come say hi to your new colleague." Fae waved Stevie over to meet his new coworker.
Addison stopped in her tracks frozen, mesmerized by the man approaching. Wiping the sweat off her brow, she reached out her arm to shake Stevie's hand.
"Stevie, Stevie Evans." Stevie smiled at Addison.
"Wassup my dude," Addison played it cool, but Fae could sense the panic.
Stevie shook her hand and smiled before he walked back to his desk.
"Come on," Fae nudged Addison, smirking. "You totally got the eyes for that man, don't you."
"N-no," Addison stuttered.
"Right." Fae laughed. "Alright, well lucky for you, he's going to be the one training you. If you need anything let me know, and if you ever wanna talk about… y'know, Mr. White Chocolate over there, then you knock on my office door anytime. Okay?"
Addison's face heated up, reluctantly meeting the pink-haired girl's eyes. "Thanks, Fae, I will."
/
"Okay and then we walked into the marketing room and she totally fell head over heels for Stevie!" Fae exclaimed, holding the phone to her face while shoving a piece of banana bread in her mouth.
"I'm glad you and the new girl got along?" Marley replied at a loss to what to say next.
"Oh my god. Talk to you later Marley, I gotta gay. Go! I gotta go." Fae rushed, hanging up the phone.
Looking through the front door, Fae could see Aja lying on the couch, talking. Who the hell was she talking to? Fae walked over to confront the girl.
"Umm, who the fuck are you talking to?" Fae looked down at Aja, who opened her eyes wide.
Aja scrambled to compose herself on the couch.
"Oh, I know what this is." Fae smirked. "You were fantasizing about your little girlfriend, eh?"
Aja explained to Fae about her newfound job at the Spotlight Diner and her start date. Finally a job! Fae was getting worried Aja wasn't going to be able to pay her rent, so this was great.
"Okay, and here's something you'd like." Aja seemed satisfied with herself. "Santana said she was going to bring her 'milf' roommate of hers tonight at BushWackers. So maybe we can get y'all introduced?"
Okay, this was even greater.
"Okay, I was happy for you, and now I just love you." Fae couldn't contain her excitement. "Let me text Ethan to meet us down there after they get off from work."
After their conversation, Fae ran to her room to text Ethan.
"Ethan you won't believe this, basically Aja is inviting us to a lesbian bar. And, her new date is gonna be there, and also, she is gonna bring a milf friend, oh and they have never kissed before. So basically, we need to make that happen tonight. We have to set them up, trap them, something. Are you in or what?"
15 minutes later a text.
"Please say that again but slowly. I'm very confused. Also, I'm excited to go out tonight! Where shall I meet you?"
Sweet, Ethan was in on the plan. Fae sent the details and began to get ready. She had to look hot tonight, she didn't even know what this milf lady looked like, but if there was any chance of action tonight, Fae had to take it.
"Okay, you won't believe this," Fae held the phone up.
"What is it this time?" Marley sounded playfully annoyed over the phone.
"I'm going to meet a girl tonight at the club." Fae was giddy with glee.
"No, Fae! Come on," Marley sounded so disappointed. "Remember about settling down and taking things slow?"
"Yeah, I'm taking things slow!"
"Okay, what's her name?"
"..."
"Fae?"
"Okay, so I don't even know her name. It's like a blind date or somethin'."
"Fae…" Marley sighed, hopeless.
"I promise no funny business, okay?" Fae bit her lip.
"Right…" Marley sighed again. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, Fae, have fun tonight."
"Yeah, yeah, see you tomorrow." Fae hung the phone up before throwing herself on her bed face first. What the fuck was she doing with her life.
Fae got up from her bed to look through an old photo album off the bookshelf. She skimmed through the pages looking at all the fun memories she had. She looked at pictures of her exes, where are they now? What was Fae doing with her life?
/
"Hey guys," Ethan hopped out of the taxi to meet their roommates on the street outside the apartment.
"You ready for tonight?" Fae nudged Ethan playfully.
"Yeah, what was this thing about a plan again?"
"Right, so, basically," Fae started. "We're gonna get Aja here to lead Santana in the bathroom, and then we're gonna trap 'em all sneaky. Don't worry Aja, we'll let you out eventually." Fae walked up and gave Aja a sly wink.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Ethan walked a little ahead to look at the two girls.
/
Holy shit. Fae stopped in her tracks and was about to rub her eyes before she forgot about the full face of makeup on. She was the most beautiful woman Fae had ever seen, her skin flawless, her hair, long honey waves gracing upon her shoulders. Her eyes, a beautiful green. It was like viewing a moving painting.
A voice piped up, breaking Fae out of her trance. "Right! Guys, this is my roommate, Quinn Fabray, she owns the New York Bean!"
Quinn.
Fae leaped to extend her hand "Very nice to meet you, Quinn, I'm Fae."
Quinn gave Fae a shy look, barely meeting her gaze as her face turned a soft shade of pink. "Um, it's nice to meet you too-"
"Your chai tea lattes are out of this world. What do you put in them? Actually, no, don't tell me, I want to keep it a surprise." Fae's voice was so smooth, butter couldn't stand a chance.
"Well, I wouldn't tell you anyway, it's top secret." Quinn winked at Fae. "And thank you, you're very sweet…"
"Maybe, but not as sweet as you look tonight," Fae stepped back to look at Quinn. "Seriously, you're so beautiful."
"Could say the same," Quinn cooed at the pink-haired girl. "And your hair…"
"It's not my natural colour, I must apologize." Fae bowed her head in disappointment.
"Could never have guessed." Quinn laughed. "Shall we go in?"
Quinn could overhear Santana. "Long story short, this place owes me."
Quinn leaned in to whisper in Fae's ear. "She used to be dating the owner's daughter."
"No,"
"For real. Ended real messy." Quinn shook her head.
The group entered the club, it was blaring loud music with a large bar in the center of the room.
"Oh! The bar! Do you like to drink?"
"Do I-" Quinn couldn't finish her sentence as Fae pulled her arm, practically running towards the bar.
/
"You're not seeing anyone, are you?"
"Oh, god, no. I feel like I never see anyone anymore." Quinn held the drink up to her lips to take a sip.
"Why's that, I mean, that's hard to imagine for someone of your… your.." Fae vaguely gestured her hands all around Quinn.
"My… My what?" Quinn giggled, pushing at Fae's arm.
"Just, my god, everything. You're sweet, you're… hot" Fae's eyes darkened as she looked into Quinn's eyes. Quinn's eyes fluttered, mouth unable to produce words.
Fae leaned in before Marley's words echoed in her head. "Take things slow!"
Sighing, Fae pulled away. "Over here, guys!" Fae swung her hands to the rest of the group.
Quinn sighed sadly, but sadness faded as she watched Fae hand a stack of bills over to the bartender. We're taking shots tonight.
Fae taught the group how to take a tequila shot, "Alright everyone come here, lick your hand, shake some salt on it, then I'll give my lil' toast here."
After wishing Aja well on her job, the group drank up, Fae buying another one for just her and Quinn.
"We're having fun tonight," Fae said, clinking her shot glass against Quinn's before the both of them darted another shot.
Quinn shuddered. "Hell yea!"
"Let's dance." Fae smiled, grabbing Quinn's hand leading them towards the dancefloor.
The music blared as the two of them danced, sang their hearts out to the music, and jumped around. The alcohol was definitely kicking in, Fae's head pounding to the beat and face cherry red. She looked over at Quinn, lost in the music, twirling in circles.
"I love this song!" Quinn screamed as Superbass by Nicki Minaj was pounding through the speakers.
Fae was not ready for what was about to happen.
This one is for the boys with the booming system
Top down, AC with the cooler system
When he come up in the club, he be blazin' up
Got stacks on deck like he savin' up
Quinn was busting out the lyrics faster than the track was actually playing. Fae was hyping her up, throwing her hands up around Quinn, who while running out of breath, kept spouting the lyrics as fast as she could possibly put out.
Quinn spun around and almost tripped over her own feet.
"Whoa there," Fae held out her arms catching the girl.
The two of them looked each other in the eyes, bloodshot with rosy cheeks. The club music faded around them, faces and light around them fading out of focus.
"Fae-" Quinn's hooded eyes looked onto Fae's lips before looking up to meet her eyes.
As if time stopped, their lips clashed together, Fae's hands cupping Quinn's mouth and Quinn's arms wrapped around Fae's waist. The two got pushed around, eventually leading them to the edge of the dancefloor. Pushing down on the chair Fae pulled Quinn on top of her, letting her hands roam along her back.
"Fae!" Ethan's voice disrupted the mood.
"Ethan, can't you see I'm busy-" Fae continued to kiss Quinn, hand slowly moving up her outer thigh.
"Fae you idiot, Aja and Santana went to the bathroom!"
The plan!
"Oh shit!" Fae pushed Quinn off her. "Sorry baby, I'll be right back, you stay here-"
Why now. Things were just getting good. Marley's words echoed again in her head "Take things slow!"
"Fuck Marley."
"What?"
"Nothing," Fae snapped back. "God there's so many people here. Scuse me, pardon me…"
/
"So, what's going on with you and Quinn?" Ethan crossed their arms at their roommate.
"Quinn?" Fae took a moment to think. "She's so sweet, she handles her drinks as I do, she's smoking hot..."
"Uh-huh."
"God, not you too." Fae sighed. "Hey, Aja and Santana are coming out!"
"Oh god."
"Hey lovebirds!" Fae felt accomplished with what she'd done.
"Shut up Fae," Aja pushed Fae's shoulder, the force feeling like a thousand bricks hitting her down.
"Hey, just calling it as it is, are you guys even official yet?" Fae had no room to talk but it just slipped out.
"Hey, none of your business Pinky!" Santana snapped at Fae.
"Whoa, I'm sorry!" This isn't going well, Fae turned to Quinn for reassurance, but she was far gone, slumped at the bar.
Santana turned to talk to Aja before she shot Fae a look. God that woman was cold, how can Aja be into her? Okay, she was hot. It all made sense.
"Quinn baby, how are you holding up?" Fae tried helping a very intoxicated Quinn up from the bar.
"Fae, I-" Quinn's words were slurred, falling out of the chair.
"Oh no honey, let's get you out of here."
/
"Come home with me tonight," Quinn's weak hands reached out to Fae.
"No honey, I think you need to go home," Fae held Quinn's hand and helped her into the cab.
"Call me!" Fae cried to the cab.
Fae and Aja joked around on their way home about their prospective dates of the night.
Bzzt Bzzt
"No funny business?" God Marley none of your business!
"None. I'll tell you about it tomorrow." Fae texted Marley back rolling her eyes.
Fae shoved the phone back in her pocket before smiling to herself. She licked her lips trying to remember the taste of Quinn, the mixture of lipstick and alcohol caressing her mouth.
Fae had Quinn's number but it felt impossible to text.
"Hey, tonight was awesome." Awesome. Really? No.
"Hey, thank you for tonight." Thank you… sounds like paid services.
"Hey, …" Fae groaned, throwing her phone against the headboard of her bed.
Fae exhaled sharply before picking up her phone again.
"Hey, tonight was lovely, hope you have some sweet dreams. I hope to see you again x"
Send.
God, why was this so difficult? This was Fae! The Fae! Women left and right Fae! Why was texting Quinn harder than her entire business law dissertation? This should come naturally, effortlessly, why was this so different?
Fae washed her face and got into bed, frustrated with herself.
See, Marley? I'm taking it slow.
