A/N: so happy to see you all enjoyed the first chapter.
All mistakes are my own.
Amsterdam.
Ana loved it.
She always wanted to come but there never seemed to be a right time. She figured her husband lying brought up the perfect opportunity to explore somewhere new and different.
When she was out of the airport she took in a deep breath of fresh air. She had only the clothes on her back and her money, and that was good enough. No one knew her here and she was happy because she could explore without any bias toward her. She flagged down a taxi and after a brief greeting asked if he could take her to the Sofitel Legend hotel. It wasn't too far from the airport and Ana enjoyed the scenery of people and places to shop as she was driven there. The weather was currently cool like Seattle. It was rainy and in the 50's. Apparently that was typical for the Netherlands in October.
"We're here, miss," the friendly driver said. Ana thanked him before stepping out of the car and taking in the grand hotel. She smiled at the people who passed her by before hurrying into the lobby so she wouldn't get soaked. When she walked into the French doors, she headed over to the concierge desk.
"Hello. My name is Anastasia Steele. I would like a room for the next four days."
The man smiled at her before checking.
"We have a room available. How would you like to pay, miss?"
Ana was about to reach for her card, but then pulled out cash.
"I'd like to pay cash if that's alright."
"Certainly."
After she signed the typical documents the man handed over the key card.
"It is on the sixth floor, room six-three-three."
"Thank you. Oh and might I ask if you have a pharmacy store near by?"
"Yes. Just a block away. There is a clothing store beside it as well."
"Thank you."
Christian tilted his head back onto the couch.
He was back at their penthouse in Seattle and he kept playing the conversation he had with Ana in his head. He hurt her. And it sucks because he promised he wouldn't. To be honest, Christian had been lying for so long about his past he didn't even think to tell Ana. Was it wrong?
Yes.
But, he couldn't lose her. When he met Ana she was a breath of fresh air. So kind, and honest. She was beautiful, but what made her stand out was her convictions. He thought she would've been impressed with his money and what he could offer her. He learned quickly that wasn't the case. She came from a modest home. Her father was a Marine, and her mother made pottery. Her parents had been married for thirty-four years and any relationship was a big deal to her. It was why she hadn't been married, or had sex. Because she wanted to wait for that special person. He was stunned. Everything he'd learned about sex and life was a bit different. But to meet a woman who didn't settle? Or go against her own beliefs?
She was the minority.
Suddenly, his life didn't seem so pointless anymore. His brother and sister joked that he had it bad. Even his parents were amused. But he no longer cared. He was a thirty year old billionaire and all he could concentrate on was Ana. It was no question that he married her. And when he went to share the news to Elena, she seemed indifferent. He felt himself falling under her influence when she suggested that he not rush into it. But that same day, he met up with Ana and he knew in that moment:
Anastatsia Steele had to be his.
They were married within six months. And although her parents were a bit hesitant, once they met Christian and his family they were assured that Ana would be thrilled. And she was.
They had a lavish wedding that Ana made fun by adding her own traditions into it. Christian didn't care. Just as long as she agreed to marry him.
His neat orderly life was suddenly filled with color and excitement. Ana could make anything fun, and Christian found himself being lighter in her presence. She was all innocence and sunshine and rainbows. And he was the ogre she chose to love.
In the back of his mind Christian knew it was wrong. He would purposely avoid topics that would even open up his sexual history. Ana saw the women he dated plastered all over the media so she assumed he had a normal dating history. She just didn't know it wasn't typically normal. He was pulled from his own thoughts by Taylor.
"Sir. Your family has been calling asking about Ana."
"Tell them that Ana and I are just having a disagreement but everything is fine."
"Very well."
"Have you heard from Ana?"
"No," Taylor said honestly. "But her father has."
Christian turned to give Taylor his full attention.
"I'm listening."
"Ray called. He wanted me to tell you that he knew you had something to do with his daughter's sudden disappearance, but he knew you probably didn't know where she was. So he opted to tell you that he heard from her."
Christian nodded.
"Tell him thanks."
"Noted. Sir. Do you have any idea as to where she could be? We pulled the camera feeds from the airport. She was seen heading pass, TSA. But, I think she knew we would use the camera feeds because she stayed in the central part of the walkways before a crowd came and made sure to move with them. I couldn't see her afterwards."
Christian smirked at that.
"She is a marine's daughter. I've always known if Ana wanted to disappear she could," he mused. Suddenly his phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi dear husband," Ana said sweetly.
"Do you miss me yet?"
Christian was both annoyed and amused with Ana. She had managed to flee the country and he had no idea where she was.
"Not really. The only thing I wish I could get rid of is this headache you've caused."
Ana laughed lightly, not put off by him in the least.
"Oh, those are normal. I get those being married to you."
"Ouch."
"Yeah, well," Ana said quietly. Christian sat up.
"Tell me where you are. I'll go easy on you if I know now."
Ana barked out a laugh at that.
"Christian, I'm not afraid of you. I think that was probably lost along with the vows part. You know what else was lost? Being truthful. Something that you've forgotten to be to me. You know, you're wife."
"I know. And Ana I'm sorry. I just didn't know how to start the conversation."
Ana said nothing, just waited for him to continue.
"If you could come back home we can work it out."
"I don't want to come back home. At all. I want to travel the world and not think about serious things like love, and marriage. Because when I did, someone else didn't pay me the same courtesy," she said harshly. Christian could hear the hurt in her voice and that saddened him.
"I'm sorry, baby. I love you. I was just-"
"Stupid?"
"Among other things," he added quietly. "Ana please. Tell me where you are. If you don't-"
"You'll what? Lock me up in that penthouse? Forbid me from hanging out with my friends? Lie to me some more? Wait, you do that right now!"
"I do not!" Christian roared finally at his wits end.
"Yes, you do. You say, 'Oh Ana you don't need to go out with your friends tonight, they're just drinking,' or 'Ana it's not safe out tonight just stay home instead.' I want to be married and still be young!"
"I'm sorry Ana that my life has made me wary of people and their intentions."
"And I know that. Which is why I never fight you on these issues. I know of your past childhood Christian, and I get it. But that can't be the reason why I don't live."
"Ana, this is foolish. Just be an adult and tell me where you are."
"Hell no,"she said before smiling at the stunned cashier who handed her back her purchases. Christian growled.
"Ana, we can talk about it in person."
"You see Christian, that's not going to work for me. Hey, you want to know something insightful?"
"I'm all ears," he said darkly.
"Well, the entire time we've been on this phone not once have you asked about our child. That's a big reason why I'm not coming back."
Christian froze before he ran a hand over his face.
"Ana-"
"You see Christian, you don't get to fuck like bunnies then play the shocked, and tricked husband when your wife gets pregnant. I went to the doctor, but Christian taking birth control all the time isn't good for a woman's system. Did you know that I was feeling sick from the dosage? Did you know that I didn't want to tell you anything because I knew you would try to find other methods? Did you know that not all birth control is one-hundred percent effective?"
Chrsitian sat back in the chair.
"Why didn't you tell me this?"
"When would I have had the chance? Everytime I try to bring it up you change the subject. Well Christian, How about I tell you this. If you don't want this baby, then you don't want me."
"Ana! Stop this and come the fuck back home!"
"Fuck no!"
"Ana-"
Ana hung up causing Christian to shout and toss his phone all the way into the kitchen.
Sawyer came running in.
"Sir. I think we know where Ana went."
Christian's head shot up.
"Where?" he barked.
"Amsterdam."
….
Ana had a feeling that Christian would be on her tail after that conversation, so she decided to take a six hour rest before getting up. She decided after dinner she would be leaving Amsterdam. She wanted to go to Italy. After taking a shower, followed by a luxurious bath Ana felt renewed. She brought two outfits, one to wear on the plane, and the other for the first day she was in Italy. She'd always wanted to go to Capri.
"What do you say baby? You think we'll like Italy?"
Ana pulled on her clean underwear, loose sweats and tennis shoes before grabbing her backpack and wallet. She walked over to the concierge and smiled at the same man who helped her earlier in the day.
"Miss. It's midnight. Are you leaving now?"
Ana nodded.
"Yes, I am. Don't worry though, I will be back in a few days. I wanted to ask if you could call me a cab to the airport. And I would like to pay for some snacks if possible."
The man nodded, gesturing to the many foods available. Ana grabbed a handful and charged it to Christian's card. She knew he would check the statement and think he had her. That was why she paid for four days.
"I'm expecting someone to come by. It's my husband. His name is Christian Grey. If you would please let him into my room. I've left a note on my bed."
"Certainly."
"Thank you," Ana said, beaming at the man.
…..
When she got to the airport, she found out that she had two hours to kill. So she called her father first.
"Annie! Thank God you're okay. You're mother and I were worried."
Ana smiled.
"I'm fine daddy. I just needed to get away for a bit." Ray chuckled.
"Your husband is losing it. He called everyone you knew when we couldn't find you. Is everything okay between you two? Because I can go shoot him. I've been wanting to do it for a while," he said jokingly. Ana rolled her eyes.
"No, don't shoot him. At least not yet," she said, causing her dad to laugh.
"Annie. What is it?"
Ana suddenly felt tears well in her eyes but she laughed it off.
"Nothing that I can't handle. Anyway, where is mom?"
"She passed out on the couch. She cried herself to sleep watching her latest K-drama."
"What's the name of the latest K-drama?"
"Right now? She's obsessed with come and hug me. I do feel bad for the main characters though."
"You're watching it too?"
"Hey! I'm bored!" he said when Ana couldn't stop giggling. Ray could hear the speakers over the phone.
"You're at an airport. And judging by the words it's not in the U.S."
"No daddy. And that's all I'm going to tell you. I love you and mom and I'll talk to you soon."
"Alright. Just be careful."
"I will."
Ana hung up the pay phone and covered her face with her hands. She needed to pull it together. Wiping her eyes, she then dialed Kate who answered on the first ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's me."
"Ana! Where the hell did you go? When I tell you, I never saw Christian lose his shit like I did that night at the gala. Anyway, where are you? What happened? Should I come and bring snacks? I can leave my two kids. They're bad anyway," she said all in one breath. Ana laughed.
"I left the country, I don't care if Christian lost it, and no you can't bring snacks, although I did buy some to keep me company. And don't you dare leave my precious niece and nephew. Your kids are adorable."
Kate had two kids aged two and three. Leah and Gavin were such good kids. So full of life. It amazed Ana that her friend, the single socialite, easily settled into a wife and mother who was also a reporter. She told Ana that all her preconceived notions of her life flew out of the window when she met Elliott.
"Ooh! Another country. It must be bad. What did he do?" She said. Ana sighed.
"It's so much Kate, that I can't even begin to start. I'll miss my flight if I do."
Kate whistled.
"Well you know I'm here if you want to talk babe. I can go slash his tires, or I can write a scathing article on him that'll make him wish he never laid eyes on you."
Ana laughed at that.
"I believe you."
"Tell me something, anything I can do to help."
"Just hearing your voice is good enough. I know Christian is coming to look for me. I even purchased some things with his card so he'd know directly where to come. Except I won't be there. I need Christian to come to some realizations before I come home."
"And if he doesn't?"
That was what Ana feared the most. But for now, she would play it by ear.
"Then I'll cross that bridge when I get to it."
Kate nodded.
"Okay. Well call me if you need anything. And I'll let the family know I spoke to you but the issue is between you and Christian."
"Thank you, Kate, I owe you."
"No you don't. That's what sister's do. Now let me go and feed my kids. They're screaming at me as if they didn't have lunch."
Ana laughed once more.
"Okay. Bye."
"Bye."
Hanging up, Ana took out her boarding pass and headed to her gate. She wouldn't allow herself to cry. Not yet.
…
Another adventure. We'll stay longer in Italy. But we gotta play with Christian for a minute. LOL leave me a review and tell me what you think!
