A/N: And here's the wrap up. For those of you who wanted Clayton Webb punished, I hope this is a satisfactory outcome. Some of you might recognize a name from an early JAG episode.
Reckoning
Rockingham, Western Australia
Six Months Later
It had taken him the better part of six months to track down the rogue agent. Cordova had a reputation. He always got his man.
After receiving a tip that Clayton Webb was in Australia, he'd flown there a week ago. The seaside town of Rockingham seemed an unlikely place for the former spook, but Dexter had to check it out. It turned out his informant was correct.
For someone who had gone to great lengths to avoid being found, Clayton Webb was a creature of habit. Maybe after six months, he'd grown complacent, but every day he took an early morning walk along the beach before returning to his seaside condo. He'd be an easy target.
On the eighth morning, Cordova took a position on a rooftop overlooking the street in front of Webb's condo. It was just breaking day and only a few people were out and about. That was a good thing. The fewer witnesses, the better. Not that it mattered. By the time anyone could pinpoint where the shots came from, he'd be long gone. He was a master at this. His escape route was already planned, and a van waited for him in the alley behind the building.
Shortly before 07:00, a man exited the front door of the apartment building. He looked both ways before starting toward the street. Maybe Webb was suspicious. Didn't matter. Cordova was prepared.
He spoke into his mic. "Target in sight. Be ready."
Cordova lifted the rifle and sighted Webb through the scope before firing three shots. The first did the trick—the bullet hit with precision accuracy in Webb's forehead—but for good measure, he fired two more rounds. One for each of the military officers who had once saved his career.
He shouldn't have taken satisfaction in doing that, but he still remembered that time in Columbia seven years ago when Webb tried to have him court-martialed. Thought he was a coward who couldn't fire when needed. He ended up saving Webb's life. Ironic now he'd be the very one to take it.
Cordova quickly packed up his rifle, then scrambled down the back stairs to the waiting van. He waited until the driver pulled away before placing the phone call.
"What's the news?"
"Mission accomplished." He ended the call.
***The End***
