I do not own Twilight or the Vampire Diaries
Edward stared at the scene before him.
He did not believe in God, at least not anymore. In his human life, he might have. But during his time as one of the undead, he had never once thought of God.
But he was questioning whatever deity who thought that Mike chewing on a pen cap was sexy. The blonde was sitting beside Bonnie, listening to her explain a spell. He had long since stopped listening to what kind of spell it was and focused on how Mike's teeth gnawed at the cap like it was a piece of candy. How was that arousing?
"Edward," Jasper gritted out. He was clutching his fist so tight, Edward was almost certain he was trying to snap it off. He was speaking low enough that no one other than him could hear. "If you don't get your emotions in check right now, I will kill you."
Edward glared at his brother. It wasn't his fault Mike doing the most mundane thing was sexy. "I can't help it,"
"Yes you can," the empath snapped.
Bonnie and Mike looked up from their study session, wearing the same questionable expression. Jasper had to turn his eyes away from it, hiding his laugh behind a cough. It was astonishing how they had only been in each other's presence for two days and already shared similar mannerisms.
Bonnie had become a breath of fresh air around the Cullen household.
Emmett had been the first one, outside of Jasper, to attach himself to the little witch. He openly called her baby sister and even spoke about how he couldn't wait for her to turn. Bonnie had become rather uncomfortable with that declaration. Emmett had apologized. Edward later learned that the big lug had told the witch it was because Bella was so adamant about turning to be a part of the family. He had wrongfully assumed Bonnie was of a similar mindset.
The thought of his fiancee was the bucket of ice water he needed. Bella was going to be his wife, and he had to stop thinking about what could have been with Mike. A moment of passion.
An intense moment of passion that involved him marking the blonde. If any one else were to see the bite on his hip, they'd assume it was a scar. His eyes turned back to Mike's form, watching as his fingers moved to massage at the exact spot Edward had been thinking of. His eyes darkened at the sight and his cock stirred again.
Jasper groaned aloud, causing the witches to once again look over at them.
"I'm going to the garage," he said through gritted teeth and flashed out the room.
Mike glanced at Bonnie. "Are you gonna go after him?"
"No," she told him. "He wants to be alone right now."
Mike titled his head to the side. "And you got that from him going to the garage?"
Bonnie let her eyes glance at Edward for a second. She then smiled at Mike, "Kind of. Come on, it's getting late and you need to get home."
Mike huffed. "It's barely six,"
"And you have work in the morning," Bonnie pointed out and helped him to his feet. "Go grab your jacket and I'll walk you out."
Mike nodded, heading up to the room the Cullens had cleared out for Bonnie to have. It was closer to Edward's room than Jasper's, who was still sharing it with Alice until they got a situation settled. Alice had been out of the house all day, though no one knew where she was.
Edward turned his sights on Bonnie. She was closing up her book, though she looked like she had something else on her mind.
"Are you okay?" He asked, walking over to her. Kneeling down, he offered his hand to help but she shook her head.
"I just..." she paused, letting a sigh leave her lips. Why was it hard for her to just say what she wanted to say? That while she was grateful to be alive, her heart was heavy, and she felt resigned.
The only person who knew something was wrong, aside from Jeremy, had been Matt. The former quarterback had tagged along with people he couldn't trust just so he could be there for her. She had hoped at least Stefan would have cared, he had been the last to see her.
Her brow furrowed again, the Ripper had been on her mind for the last two days. He had been in her dreams and it looked like he was calling out to her but she couldn't hear him. It was like she was surrounded by water.
Bonnie brought her arms around her middle. Her skin suddenly felt clammy and her lungs tightened.
It was like she was close to drowning.
A cold hand grabbed at her shoulder and she glanced over, seeing concerned gold eyes. Edward's hair was the second thing she saw; coppery and catching like a penny. She had told him once before that they were similar; both him and Stefan. They put others feelings before their own happiness: for Stefan it would always be Elena's and he would suffer in silence.
For Edward, Bella's need to be with him for eternity was rooted in fascination. He had even told her that, but Bonnie had seen him in the last two days. Seen how his eyes lingered on the determined looks Mike held, how he watched him closely when Tessa had let her fingers get too close to his jugular. He had been tightly wound up with so many emotions for the blond that Jasper had been just as wound up.
"Bonnie," Edward asked, his voice just as concerned as his eye relayed. He moved to grab hold of her other shoulder, looking down at her. "You have to tell me what's wrong. I can't really..."
He paused and raised a hand, tapping his index finger to his temple. It was like he was trying to get a signal. Three small taps to the side of his skull, and she couldn't help it.
Her lips pursed into tiny laugh; soft and almost like she was trying to hold back a cough. But then, it grew and she laughed when his eyes went from concerned to confused. He looked every bit like the teenager he was, those golden eyes wide and shimmering.
She mimicked his actions, her index tapping against the indent of her temple. "Testing, testing, testing. Is this thing on?"
He blinked, his lashes fluttering as he did. It floored her how pretty he looked doing it. Actually, all the Cullens were beautiful. Rosalie looked like she was created for a magazine cover, or to be on the runway. Alice was fae-like; so pretty she almost seemed deadly. Esme was like home and hearth; warm and comfort. She reminded her of Grams, in terms of feeling like family.
Emmett has latched onto her, calling her little sister almost instantly. She remembered how Bella looked at her with jealousy. Even more so once Alice assured the family that she would be a member of the family. She was Jasper's mate after all; thought a wedding wouldn't be in the cards for a while.
A laugh brought her back to the present. Edward's head was bent and his shoulders were shaking. But he was laughing and it was warm; like a calming fall breeze.
Bonnie's lips tugged up in a smile.
"You should laugh more," she observed.
"Should I?" He smiled at her, and she nodded and cupped his cheek.
"You should smile more too," she added and then pulled away. "You look more relaxed when you do."
"I'll keep that in mind. It will be a good thing to do once Victoria is dealt with," he said.
Bonnie hummed and the two turned as Mike came down the stairs.
"Alright Bennett, I'm ready."
Bonnie nodded and turned to Edward. "I'm gonna drive him home and then grab some food for me, Matt and Tessa," she told him and then paused after considering. "Is Bella coming over tonight?"
Edward watched as Mike looked suddenly very interested in his book bag. "No, she's going to stay home with Charlie. Apparently Jacob and his father are going to be coming over for a game night."
"Sounds fun," the witch murmured.
"I was actually going to make pizza for you and Matt. Tessa said she was going out," Edward informed her. Of course that was all she told the mind reader. Tessa was just as mysterious as ever, and snippy.
Bonnie perked up at that. "You?"
He looked away, sheepish. "Yes,"
Mike looked away. "Bon, are we going or am I gonna have to ask Jasper?"
"I'm coming," she laughed and then held out her hand for Edward's keys. He had given them to her so she could drive into town.
"Don't scratch my car," he warned her.
"I make no promises, Edward."
The bronze haired vampire chuckled as the two witches left. Once the car peeled out the driveway, he made his way towards the garage.
Emmett and Jasper were there, helping Matt with one of Jasper's passion projects. An old Harley he picked up from a junkyard in New York, the major had taken to fixing it up.
Matt was squatting beside a toolbox, talking about the town Bonnie and him has grown up in. The last few days, they had been asking the human little things.
Esme's heart had broken when she heard how the two were basically orphaned and alone. Carlisle had to stop her from wanting to adopt them. Of course, that was while he was also trying to quell the anger he felt for them.
Years of parentage neglect, as well as co-dependency on not only each other but the small group of friends they had was damaging to their lives. Carlisle was not a man of violence, when during his time with the Volturi, but he had never wanted to hunt down the people who hurt the two teenagers who had taken up residence in his home.
Rosalie was already making plans to find the man known as Damon Salvatore and make his life hell. Jasper had been pondering on that name for a while now; it sounded familiar and not in a good way. Alice had been quiet too, especially when they started talking about Damon's younger brother. She wasn't sure why but she was curious about him.
Currently the three were talking about an old bear Bonnie has owned. Jasper was curious because he wanted to give her something as a sign of good faith.
"Ms. Cuddles?" Emmett's grin was all teeth as he listened to Matt recall how attached Bonnie was to that bear. Edward could see it in his memories; a little pigtailed Bonnie clutching her bear while a younger Matt and a little girl named Caroline played on the swings.
Matt nodded, "Bon loved that bear. It was a gift from Ms. Shelia,"
Jasper paused, "She sounded like a good woman."
Matt was far off, remembering how Shelia would bring him extra food and make sure the bills were paid, even if she thought he didn't know. Shelia's last gift to him had been keeping his lights on for at least a few months before her passing.
He turned, trying to wipe his tears. "She was,"
Edward moved to sit beside the blond, crossing his legs. The four said nothing for a moment while Matt gained his bearings.
"So we're making pizza?" Emmett asked their newest addition. "Sounds like a fun experience."
"Alice dropped off the ingredients thirty minutes ago," Jasper told him, "they're out looking for any sign of Victoria."
"Is that a good idea?" Matt asked, referring to the family currently being split up. "I mean, you guys have some heavy stuff over your heads. And you haven't even addressed how mine, Bonnie and Mike are now involved."
Edward winched at the idea. Aro had been displeased with just Bella finding out. Now there was another human and three witches who knew their secret.
They would either die or Aro would request they be turned. Mike and Tessa were already immortal and he was almost certain Bonnie was as well. But he heard how scared Bonnie was of turning. A witch was connected to nature; and their magic came as easy as breathing.
Jasper refused to turn Bonnie unless it was life or death; and only with her consent.
Alice was also working on how to keep them from turning as well. But she had to keep looking into different outcomes.
One that involved him marrying Bella and keeping it that way. He wasn't sure why she was so adamant about that outcome.
He wanted nothing to do with it, but it would keep the family together.
He'd just be miserable.
Edward stole a glance at Jasper as he showed Matt some color palettes for the motorcycle. Perhaps he'd ask him later about the bite mark.
