Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Cybernetic Couple. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.
(Atlas.)
Ruddy watched Penny fly off towards Atlas as quick as she came. He sighed and hummed before reloading his weapon once more.
"Doctor, I'm going to go with the next transport." Ruddy stated over his communicator before sealing his helmet.
"Good, General Ironwood is busy at the moment after that message he sent us." Pietro said which caused Ruddy to tilt his armored head to the side at this.
"When did he send out a broadcast?" Ruddy questioned and looked up to see a Teryx fly overhead. "Guess I got a little caught up in the action to pay attention…" Ruddy said and hummed.
He decided to focus on escorting civilians to Atlas and making sure they were safe in Atlas. He didn't want to leave the city… But if the Grimm came in such massive numbers? There was little reason not to leave the city to its fate. Plus? The more important thing to note was they could retake Mantle.
(With Penny)
Penny moved towards Atlas with a trio of Mantas behind her. It was then her communicator buzzed a moment later.
"Penny, I need you to report to M3 now." Ironwood stated over the comm.
"But I haven't escorted the civilians to Atlas yet, sir." Penny stated as she could hear the sounds of cursing on the other end.
"That's an order, Penny, it's urgent." Ironwood stated and then took a deep breath. "Winter will fill you in when you arrive. I'll send an escort for the rest of the Mantas." Ironwood added with annoyance.
Penny looked at the transports for a second before shifting her course to fly towards the hospital. Hopefully Winter could explain to her why things had changed.
(With Ruddy)
Ruddy put a bullet through the head of the Beowolf and watched the Grimm fall dead to the ground. He spun the revolver in his hands.
"Is there anyone else here?" Ruddy questioned and sighed as silence greeted him. "Doctor? I'm headed to Atlas. There's plenty of people evacuating the city… Will you be ok here?" Ruddy questioned for a moment before looking to the rear of the city.
"Yes." Pietro responded over Ruddy's scroll while he started towards the Mantas. "I'll take care of anyone who needs shelter in Mantle… Ruddy?" Pietro questioned the cyborg who turned at the mention of his name.
"Yes doctor?" Ruddy questioned while looking to the side. He could see an Ursa getting gunned down by a pair of AK-200s.
"Remember you have a team now…. And help her if she needs it…. I'm counting on you." Pietro put in which caused Ruddy to hum and nod.
"I'll keep Penny safe, Dr. Pietro." Ruddy stated and then headed for the next Manta.
(With Penny)
Penny landed on the roof with Winter greeting her. Penny looked back at Mantle. Smoke billowed from fires and through the snow and wind? Penny's cybernetic eyes spied the faint specks of Teryx and Mantas.
"We need to check on the patient." Winter said while she started to walk towards the roof door.
"What about Mantle?" Penny questioned as she slowly turned her view from Mantle to Winter.
"General Ironwood has everything well in hand." Winter said which caused Penny to frown.
She turned to look at Mantle once more. That told a very different story.
"This is more important than making sure people leave Mantle?" Penny asked Winter as they walked inside.
Winter stayed silent, a frown stretching across her lips as they walked through the hospital.
"We have orders." Winter responded after a few moments of hesitation.
"And the others who are busy back in Mantle?" Penny questioned and watched Winter's frown grow.
Penny didn't have to pry to know that Winter was simply drudging up other things to avoid answering the question. Penny wanted to ask how many more Mantas were coming, if they had quarters set aside for all the people from Mantle to Atlas.
Penny knew better then to ask that question. Winter didn't have answers. She didn't know what to do without orders from Ironwood.
Penny didn't want to blame her friend. She couldn't blame her friend for what happened… But Penny still couldn't help but hope that Winter was right.
(With Ruddy)
Ruddy ushered the group of people onto the Manta. He took the last seat before simply scooting to the side.
Ruddy felt bad about boarding the craft…. But when Penny returned? She'd secure the next group of transports and Ruddy would focus on securing their safety in Atlas.
The Manta slowly hovered before closing its door. Ruddy turned to the pilot and tapped on the back of the seat. The pilot changed to look at Ruddy as the craft flew up and into the sky.
"Where on Atlas are, we headed?" Ruddy questioned the pilot who looked forward.
"Hospital, one of the craft has injured aboard it." The pilot said while Ruddy nodded.
"I cant believe that Ironwood had to rely on a murderer to save us." Ruddy heard which made him turn to address the man in question.
He was about to verbally fry the man before the man next to him cut him off.
"One of those murderers saved our lives!" Ruddy heard the man yell as the other man verbally grumbled and then sank into his seat.
Ruddy said nothing as the craft rose up and into the sky before it and the other Mantas slowly arched towards Atlas,
Ruddy said nothing the entire time. He thought better of opening his mouth. It wouldn't help people survive into Atlas. He wanted people to trust him. He couldn't do that if people didn't trust him… Still, it bothered him a lot that people still considered Penny a murderer.
Ruddy slowly watched Atlas draw into view. They could focus on defending Mantle when people got there.
Ruddy sighed and simply cracked his neck. They neared the hospital and Ruddy hummed as he looked to the pilot. Something seemed off about this. Things were serene and peaceful. Ruddy felt he should be happy about this.
And he wasn't, because this meant something was wrong. It had been peaceful for several days after the attack on Mantle… Now they had this.
There were sirens blaring at the hospital as they neared it. Ruddy opened the door.
"Where the hell are you going!?" The pilot yelled before Ruddy blinked.
He fell from the craft, aiming for the roof below. The sirens only blared in an emergency last time he checked. Ruddy walked towards the door and drew Fusillade from his hip.
Ruddy slowly opened the door and crept inside. He was curious about what could have the sirens be blaring.
