Angel was looking at the books Ianto had handed her, one of them one he had written for the kids when Sam first announced her pregnancy. It was a child's view of everything, how it was all going to work and what would happen to mama and child. A sterile, gentle way of explaining it.
Angel liked this one the most and had a pen, making a notation on a page and Ianto leaned over to see her write 'water birth' as she looked at all the different ways you can have a baby.
"Angel, because you are DS it is best if baby is born in a hospital rather than a home birth. This is for many reasons, inclining the chapter here on possible complications that can arise. In a hospital they move a lot faster to make things go right" Ianto said softly "But if you want… it can still be a water birth. They have the huge pools right there in the rooms."
"Imp was, right?"
"Yes. I was there and I held him still wet and blinking at the light of the world… yes. It was amazing. Walter was born in hospital but Imps was a Water Birth. We can have more than one option so at the time we can adapt if we need to, OK?" Ianto assured her.
"You will be there right? You will not leave me Taddy!" she said as a statement rather than a question as she looked at the book some more.
"Of course. But your mama…"
"She does not want bubba. She did not want me really, either. Did she!" Angel said in that matter of fact way DS do. Ianto was still amazed at the ability to let go of an emotion, a slight or a hurt. To just accept it and move on. Not all can but Angel and Ton seemed to always look ahead. Not that they do not fele it, they do. They simply shake it off and move on. Those who hurt or slight are simply never trusted again.
"I want a water one, I want my baby to be clean and happy swimming like a little fishy. I like that" she turned the page and made a small squiggle next to a picture of an umbilical cord. Ianto nodded as he went back to pretending to bake and not watch over her.
"It is going to hurt" Angel said after a while as she closed the book "But sometimes things hurt. You get over it. You let it go and this is not like getting a tooth pulled out or that time I broke my arm. This is going to be a big pain where I don't get a lolly or a dolly for being brave. I get my baby. I own little baby."
"Yes. And I will be there every step of the way, me and Daddy and Ton… we will be there cheering you on" Ianto assured her.
"As long as Daddy does not wear his cheerleading outfit" she said softly as she rose from the table and Ianto started to laugh. He didn't even know she had been in their closet to find that.
"Actually Angel love… that's mine. Daddy likes to see me flick pompoms" Ianto chortled and she canted her head.
"You know… that makes sense. You are our cheerleader. Daddy wants to be the Jock" she then left the kitchen as Ianto giggled his way through his cupcakes.
