Guardian Banchi Zeon National Defense Academy, Side 3

August 4th, UC 0074

"Years following the emigration of the first colonists to our beautiful home, we finally stand on the threshold of a new age! And in that time, space colonists have gone from being the unwanted to the chosen!..." Gihren Zabi artfully bellowed from the podium, looking upon the crowd of cadets.

Adrian watched him with disguised contempt, 'Pretty lies. All of it.' He sneered to himself. He then looked towards the front, then noticed a familiar set of red hair.

'That's the teacher from a few months ago? Monika something? Will she teach here?' He shrugged,

"-Incoming cadets will now be introduced! When you hear your name, please respond and stand!"

"Kei Nishimura!"

"Here!"

"Samuel Gozen!"

"Present!"

'So Samuel did make it.' Ryan nodded,

"Representing the 265 Cadets of the Class of 77 is Garma Zabi!" Garma quickly responded, and stepped forward. Immediately being photographed by a dozen different reporters.

"What a shock." Aina whispered sarcastically, "A Zabi leading our class in a Zabi-run school." Adrian simply looked away, and down at Garma.

'Garma Zabi...huh?'

A week and a half later

Within a few days of class rankings it was easy to weed out the hierarchy of the 77 class. Adrian, Garma, and one other boy named Char Aznable easily outperformed the other students, with Char leading the pack, Adrian pulling up second, and Garma being third place.

Aina and Samuel from Achilles were in the upper echelons, with Aina ranking fourth and Samuel ranking ninth.

Unknown to any of them, these scores proved to be of much interest to Dozle Zabi, who was head mastering at the academy.

"Garma is only so-so in more physical endeavors, not a surprise, and he has A's in things such as History, Maths, so on." He pulled out another slip of paper, "However...Ryan Sahalin and Char Aznable have A's across the board."

Zum-City

Ramba Ral looked around before approaching a small isolated cafe. Where a red-haired woman was sitting.

"Ramba Ral. Why did you call me here?" She took a sip of her small china cup of tea.

"Karl Sahalin died on August 1st." Ramba said with a dead tone.

"Tragic. I heard it was a bomb."

"That the Kycilia Agency planted." Ramba looked up, dead into Kycilia's eyes.

"That's an extremely serious accusation." Kycilia put down her tea, her voice chilling. "This isn't sixty-nine. You can't get away with things like you did then,"

"We both know you did. I'm asking you to stop."

"What reason?"

"Adrian and Rosary. They're threats, I'm a beaten man that no one wants anything to do with, but the Ral Family still has allies scattered here and there. They could pull together a strong enough force to beat the Zabis back, especially if Casval Deikun or Artesia Deikun was to show up."

"Say for a moment that was my motive, and I did plant the bomb. Why should I stop?"

"Because it's over. No rebellion will succeed, Zeon has all it's hatred focused on the Earth Federation right now, Adrian is attending Guardian Banchi to join your military, there's no point in killing him."

"It doesn't matter if it succeeds, it happens, and it will damage the Zabi Family, and you forgot one key thing."

"What's that?"

"The Earth Federation, they'd love nothing more than a pretext to get rid of us. What assurance do I have that Adrian is an investment, not a liability?"

Ramba said nothing, after all, he was in no position to negotiate with Kycilia.

"I have a condition." Kycilia said at last,

"What is it?"

"I'll leave Adrian alone, on the condition that you tell me exactly what Dozle has been doing in Extra Banchi."

Ramba looked down, 'I don't like selling others out.' He looked up at the woman watching him expectantly, 'But I can't go to Dozle about this either, or anyone else.' He sighed, "Dozle's goal is to design a humanoid mobile weapon…"

"I can't believe this…Why now?" Dozle muttered as he approached none other than his older brother Gihren.

"Is this the…'mobile suit' I've heard so much about?" Gihren said mirthlessly, looking at a Mobile Worker Final Type.

"I-I mean the arms are working great now! And-"

"The project's been canceled." Gihren cut him off.

"B-But we've come so far-"

"And it looks like this." Gihren pointed at the Mobile Worker Final Type he was looking at, "Carrying it's reactor like a backpack. The only use this will have is as target practice. It's over." He turned to his side and began to walk off, only to find himself facing an aged scientist.

"Excuse me, I am Torenov Y. Minovsky, and I'm the technical advisor of this project. Please follow me" He looked up at the taller Gihren.

"Yes, the developer of Minovsky physics back in 69 correct? You also invented the Mega-Particle Cannon." Gihren followed him to a room of monitors, where various schematics and specifications were displayed

"Correction: I proved Minovsky Physics in 69. My theories go much farther back, to the thirties in fact." Minovsky and Gihren entered the room.

"I see, and what are you bringing me here for?"

"As you are aware, under the direction of the Zabi family, five years ago I was ordered to develop an ultra-compact reactor. I have developed a new model that is capable of fitting within the frame of the MS. It's not only small, it's efficent and using it allows for active altitude control and smoothens out the drive system." Torenov picked up a remote, and a video began to play.

It was a simulation. In it, a Mobile Suit similar to the MW-01 Late Type charged at a Federation Magellan Class. Firing it's backpack thrusters in rapid bursts it deftly maneuvered it's way around mega-particle fire and missiles.

It then raised a bazooka it carried in it's right hand and fired into the engine of a Magellan and overloaded it before speeding off towards a Salamis Class. It then pulled out an axe-like weapon and sliced it's bridge open before carving a cut all along the hull, causing it to explode.

Gihren was thoroughly intrigued now. A glint came into his eyes, "When can it be ready?"

"Years end, without fail." Minovsky said.

"I see…" Gihren thought for a moment before giving another order, "I've changed my mind! Rescind prior order! Continue the project!"

"That's my Gihren!" Dozle cheered

Gihren turned to Minovsky, "It's designation will be MS-03, but do not miss that deadline!"

Five months later, February 14th UC 0075, Guardian Banchi Z.N.D.A

"Attention!" A Federation officer yelled, "Today we will be conducting a loaded march exercise! The weight of your backpack is 40kg, traverse the course with it and return by sundown!" He yelled,

"Sir!" The cadets responded, and they fell out, running toward the course.

The first leg was a mountainous one, and more than a few cadets slipped.

"Ryan~" Aina huffed, "Wait up! Aren't- you tired?!"

Adrian slowed down, "You should slow down a bit. I'll be up ahead." He once again ran off to catch up with Char and Garma.

"I swear...he isn't even human sometimes." Samuel mentioned.

"That's my brother." Aina wheezed.

Char managed to get to the line first, with Adrian lagging about a minute behind. "This is Point A, the 10 km mark Cadets! Name and Dorm!" An officer ordered

"Char Aznable - Dorm 3."

"Ryan Sahalin - Dorm 2."

"This is pretty fast cadets, you sure you can keep this up?" One of the officers asked.

"I'll be fine,"

"We got a third!" An officer called from further down the line,

"Name and dorm cadet!"

"Garma Zabi - Dorm 1!"

"Time for rainfall cadets!" Adrian's radio squaked.

'Son of a bitch.' Adrian thought, looking around, he luckily found himself on a rocky mountain ledge, he quickly managed to find an enclave, and nearby, Char had found a hole of his own.

"Your name is Ryan Sahalin, right?" Char asked,

Adrian nodded, but said nothing,

"I'm Char. Char Aznable," Char said to him. Adrian looked up, and grunted.

Char shrugged, and before he could remark about Adrian's silence, a third cadet came and collapsed between their enclaves. Garma covered himself with his tarp and the three remained in stony silence.

"You could join me." Char suggested, "Or Ryan, I doubt he would mind."

"Shut up." Garma rolled over in the tarp, "I don't need you telling me what to do."

"You'll catch a cold in this rain." Adrian said at last, "You won't make it, being the spoiled kid you are."

"Especially being the spoiled kid you are." Char added.

"Both of you can go to hell."

"Suit yourself." Char turned over, and Adrian lapsed into silence again.

Garma soon got up, and began walking again when the rain let up.

As Adrian and Char continued on the mountain ledge, Adrian looked to the side and noticed a disturbing trail in the mud.

"Char." Adrian pointed to them,

Char said nothing, but slid down the slope and followed the mud trail, Adrian sighed before following after them.

Adrian and Char came to a stop at a ledge lower than a mountain. Where Garma was laying flat on his back,

"Have you come to laugh?" He asked. "Go on, I'm a real riot right?"

Adrian poked him with the barrel of his gun, "Can you stan-"

"Don't touch me! I'll kill you if you do!" Garma screamed, and he finally broke down. "I'm a failure! Alright! I'm so pathetic compared to Kycilia or Gihren or even Dozle! I can't do anything for myself!" He sobbed, "Just kill me…"

Adrian ignored him, and grabbed his own tarp. Char pulled out a knife, which caused Garma to gasp, but he moved to sharpen a stick instead.

"Why...are you helping me?" Garma asked, Char grabbed the stick and stuck it next to Garma's face, and did the same on the other side with another stick, he planted two more before Adrian tied his tarp to the sticks, covering Garma with it.

"Just call it your palace for now." Char smiled, Adrian's mouth creased upward a bit too.

"What?! The all three of them are missing?!" Dozle yelled,

"Yes sir! The trio made it to Point B before disappearing!" An officer explained

"Well then find them! But Garma takes priority! You hear?!"

"Yes sir!"

Samuel ran up to Aina, "Did you hear? Ryan, Garma, and Char all went missing at the same time!"

Aina whirled on him, "What?! All of them disappeared!"

"Yeah, Dozle's going nuts!"

Aina looked towards the woods, 'Ryan…'

"Needs to be splinted, but you'll live." Char stood up,

"I can go get help." Adrian began to walk when Garma stopped him,

"No!" Garma shouted out, "I'll get there under my own power."

"On that leg? The only place you'll be getting 'under your own power' is the infirmary." Adrian scoffed

"If I don't complete this...then how can I call myself a member of the Zabi Family?!"

When Adrian and Char said nothing, Garma continued: "I know you think I'm stupid and vain-" Garma was cut off when Adrian grabbed one of his shoulders,

"Fine. But don't strain your injury." Adrian said simply, Char picked up his other shoulder, and they began the long trek to the academy.

"They've been found!" An officer said with surprise

"What?!" Another wondered.

"They just came in at Point C! They finished the course!"

Sure enough, Adrian and Char came in with Garma leaning on their shoulders.

The Next Day.

Adrian was studying on his desk when he was startled by a knock on the door. "Oi! Ryan!" Garma's voice called,

Adrian headed up to the door, 'What now?' He wondered. When he opened his door Garma was lugging his stuff.

"Hey, I was just moving to Char's room, and thought it might be nice if you joined us. Of course you don't have to."

Adrian thought about it for a moment. He looked up, he wasn't the biggest fan of the Zabi's, and Garma was the definition of one, but for some reason. He didn't find Garma to be all that bad.

"Sure. I'm in."
