The nightmares came back on Wednesday night. She may have cut herself off from the Force, but that clearly didn't matter to her subconscious. She woke up screaming again just after two in the morning, and she knew there was no going back to sleep. Ahsoka didn't want to be stuck in her house until she needed to be at work, so she decided to head to the Chasm.

There wasn't much to do other than sit and watch people pass by, but it was better than nothing. She munched on some fruit while she kept track of what she saw. The morning's entertainment was eight drug deals, five drunkards, two of which nearly fell off of the walkway, fourteen black market transactions, twenty-eight bounty hunters (none of which were after Ahsoka, thankfully), and a yodeling seventy-something-year-old man who was probably high on death sticks.

When she finally walked into work, Fuller was just unlocking the back door. She was the first one in and this did not go unnoticed.

"Someone's early," he remarked, and Ahsoka shrugged.

"Couldn't sleep. I figured I might as well get to work," she explained. "Did anything big come in overnight?"

Fuller chuckled. "Just a regular, they need a tune-up. They've gotten pretty fond of your work, though, Tano."

She didn't know how to respond to that, other than, "Then I must be doing something right."

Ahsoka clocked in and got to work. She decided to do the ship first, and then move on to regular products. This ship in particular didn't have a hyperdrive, and it seemed more like a luxury ship than something that was actually used for travel or work. The inside certainly looked fancier than nearly all other ships Ahsoka had come across in the shop. Maybe there's a Senator who is trying to save credits on a repair job, she reasoned.

This ship had clearly never tried to make any complicated maneuvers or tried to push the limits of the engine because little to no stress showed on the parts. Nothing was wearing down or really needed replacing. There was probably someone who regularly took care of the engine when it wasn't in use. This person could clearly afford to hire such a worker.

All Ahsoka had to do was double-check that everything was in place, change the oil, replenish the coolant, and a few other maintenance things. What confused her was that they were fairly simple procedures, things that a hired mechanic could surely do. With the condition the rest of the engine was kept in, why was it being sent down to the Lower Levels? Couldn't surface mechanics do the same things?

She was still contemplating the thought when she noticed something in the cooling system. Part of what Ahsoka had to do was make sure that the filter system was operational, but a small piece of paper had been rolled up and tucked into a crevice where it wasn't damaging the system, but it was definitely out of place. Ahsoka pulled it out and set it aside, and finished cleaning the screen before opening it. Maybe someone had lost it?

When she opened it, though, it was clearly not lost, but aimed at someone. The name at the top of the paper kind of gave it away, especially since it was her name.

"Ahsoka,

"I'm not entirely certain that this will reach you, but I figured it was worth a shot. If you aren't Ahsoka Tano, but you know where to find her, please pass this along.

"I was going through Kayla Kanai's old inventory (she's Chancellor now, I don't know if you heard) because she was disposing of a few things she didn't need. For some reason, she was getting rid of this ship. I figured I could put it to use, but that's not the point. I went through the old repair logs, and when I looked into the company she used to go to for tune-ups, it led me to your shop. Your name was on the Holosite I found, so I wanted to try to reach out to you.

"You have no idea what's been going on the past year or so. Ever since you disappeared, especially for the past few months, the entire galaxy has been in chaos. You probably heard the rumors that you were a Separatist warrior, wherever you have been. Seeing as you are working below the surface now, I'm assuming that you are not dead like the Inquisitor is. I truly hope that you managed to avoid all of that.

"Since Chancellor Kanai cannot be the Onderon senator anymore and I am of an age now, I've stepped up to the Senate. I'll probably be spending a lot more time on Coruscant but with your history, I doubt I'll be seeing you regardless. If somehow you do take a trip to the surface, try to stop by. I don't know the regulations concerning civilian visitors in the Senate, but maybe there is a way we could catch up in person.

"While we have been recovering from our civil war, I've met this woman, Jai Perlon. You might have met her when you visited, she was good friends with Steela. I've betrothed her, Ahsoka. Actually betrothed her, not like our cover on Mandalore :) I'm hoping I can give her a better life than she had before the Separatists invaded our system. No hard feelings, I promise. I actually want you to meet her, one day. I've told her about you, and she always teases me about all the trouble I got you into. I think Steela would have liked her as well.

"I hope you're doing well, wherever you are. Stay safe, Ahsoka. I think the war might be coming to a close soon, but then again, we've been saying that for four years.

"-Lux"

If there was one person she was expecting a secret letter from, it was not Lux Bonteri, but the fact that he had reached out to her like this was beyond anything that she could have imagined for today. Her morning was no longer so typical.

It was so good to hear that Lux was doing well. It had been a long time since she had received actual communication from any of her old friends, except for Anakin. Ahsoka also harbored no ill will towards him about Jai; if anything, she was ecstatic for him! It wasn't like she could have done the same, not with her track record. It would look horrible to the press, and there was no reason to make his transition to Senator more difficult.

Ahsoka remembered the news report that had informed her about Chancellor Kanai and about Lux and his betrothed. It had given her the hard and fast details about the matter, but his letter was much more interesting. It was difficult to remember that just as she had moved on from her surface life, the rest of the universe had moved on from her, Lux included.

That didn't mean she couldn't write him back, though:

"Lux,

"You certainly have an odd way of reaching out to people, but it worked. You're lucky that I'm the only one who works on ship engines here, though, or I would have had some explaining to do.

"Believe it or not, I've seen quite a bit of the chaos you mentioned. I took some time to travel after my trial and I ended up right in the thick of the mess with the Inquisitor. Thankfully, none of it was on Coruscant, or it would have been a lot worse. I've settled down now, though, and almost everyone has forgotten. As long as I don't run around with a red lightsaber, I think I'll be okay.

"I can't say that I remember Jai, but I can say that she has a good taste in humor. If I ever get the chance to meet her, I'll be sure to give her a few other stories to tease you with. I doubt I'll be able to make the wedding, but be sure to enjoy it. You both deserve some peace, especially after everything that's happened in the past few years.

"I've been working down here for over a month, now. No one talks about the Clone War very often, but people are constantly fighting their own battles. The Lower Levels have a dangerous reputation for a reason, but I've found good people here. The transition has been difficult at times, but I've made it this long and it's starting to get easier. I will say that the food is a lot better. I hope I never have to eat rations again.

"I have to admit, I'm a little skeptical about the end of the Clone War, but if there has ever been a time to finally finish it, it would be now. With Palpatine/Sideous out of the way, hopefully, there is a way out of this mess. Here's to hoping.

"-Ahsoka"

She rolled the paper back up and replaced it where she had found it. When she had finished the tune-up and completed the report, she mentioned that there was something in the filter system, but didn't say what. Lux would find it, she was sure.

There was nothing else to fix on the ship, so she locked it up and walked back to the main workshop.

If Granger hadn't made it to the door a second before she did, they might not have collided and fell to the floor.

Of course. The day couldn't stay good, could it?
