The Pillow Fight Wars
Jack frowned as he picked out another cookie from the cookie jar and shoved it into his mouth. He was bored. More bored than ever.
Winter had ended a few weeks ago and Jack had never thought he'd find himself without anything to do. The winter spirit had been residing in Santoff Claussen until autumn came. It was too warm for Jack in Burgess and he had wanted to stay close to one of the Guardians during his off-season, and decided to stay at North's until his season came around again.
Jack sighed and walked out of the kitchen. The Workshop wasn't bustling with its usual excitement. Things had been rather slow at the North Pole since North was busy planning new toys for the children around the world. The construction of the toys had not begun. The yetis and elves busied themselves by cleaning up and preparing for toy production, but that didn't stop them from feeling bored for most of the day.
Jack watched as an elf bumped into a yeti. The yeti didn't bark at it like they usually would. In fact, it didn't seem to notice it at all.
That was it. Jack was done with the boredom that seemed to be everywhere around him.
"Okay, everyone!" shouted Jack from above. The yetis and elves looked up at him, their bored, lifeless expressions not wavering. "We're gonna do something, and it's gonna be fun!"
The yetis and elves only blinked, and then continued their cleaning. Jack huffed. As the Guardian of Fun, he wouldn't let these poor creatures go through endless irksomeness. Jack had to do something to lift their spirits.
The Guardian of Fun flew down to the Workshop. "Do you guys wanna do something? You know, like, play a game?"
No one responded.
"How about tag?" asked Jack. He tapped a yeti named Roger and smiled. "You're it!"
"Argy blarg," said Roger. Then he continued to dust the tables.
A group of elves were packing away ornaments in a corner and Jack walked up to them. He crouched down, eye-level with them and asked, "Do you little guys wanna do something?"
The elves shrugged and continued to pack away ornaments.
"Aren't you bored?" asked Jack. The elves nodded but didn't stop.
Jack stood up and ran a hand through his hair. This was terrible! The monotony in the Workshop was unbearable. Jack tapped his foot. He had to come up with something for the yetis and elves to do. Something fun.
Jack flew to his room and began to pace. He found that he often thought well in a cool atmosphere and his room was the coolest place in the North Pole. He paced back and forth deep in thought. What was something fun that the yetis and elves could enjoy without getting into an argument?
A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts and Phil walked in holding a pile of pillows. He dropped them in front of Jack and said something in yetish.
"Oh, thanks, Phil," said Jack. Some elves had come into his room and decided that his pillows would make a perfect canvas and got paint all over them. Jack had requested for more pillows and Phil had finally delivered them.
Jack picked up a pillow and suddenly had an idea. He turned to Phil, a mischievous gleam in his eye.
"Hey, Phil. How many pillows do you think you can find?" asked Jack. Phil blinked at him in bemusement, muttered something in yetish, and left the room.
Jack smiled. "Oh, this is going to be fun."
…
In his 300 years of solitude, Jack had only seen a few pillow fights happen. It seemed to be something the children enjoyed very much and always ended with a pile of giggles, feathers, and were always a whole lot of fun.
Now, Jack was not one to make things small. He had elves, yetis, and thousands of pillows. This pillow fight wasn't going to be the average pillow fight.
No, this was going to be a war. A pillow fight war.
"Okay, everyone! Gather around!" called Jack. Several curious yetis and elves walked up to the winter spirit, who was standing in front of a tremendous number of pillows. Jack smiled at the large group and gestured to the pillows behind him.
"Who wants to do something fun?" asked Jack. Multiple elves and yetis nodded.
"Now, you may be wondering why I'm standing in front of a huge pile of pillows," said Jack. "Well, that's because we're going to have the biggest pillow fight in history."
The yetis and elves looked intrigued, so Jack continued.
"Build forts, get into teams, and collect pillows. War starts in half an hour!" Jack announced. "What are you all waiting for? Get to it!"
The yetis and elves got to work. Teams were created and Jack had got on a team with Phil and some other yetis. The winter spirit smiled at the sight of beds, tables, and blankets being prepared all over the Workshop. And, just for the fun of it, Jack wore his pajamas. The children always wore pajamas in a pillow fight.
Once everything was ready, the elves, yetis, and Jack stood in the Globe Room and collected their pillows. Jack flew upwards and held up his pillow.
"War...starts...NOW!" he shouted. And the pillow Armageddon began.
…
North was in his office working on some new designs for toys. Things have been uncharacteristically quiet at the North Pole for the past few days and North was trying to hurry before the elves and yetis decided to quell their boredom with an argument. North chipped away at an ice sculpture of a train then suddenly dropped his ice pick in surprise when he heard a shout from outside.
North stood up and walked out of his office toward the direction of the sudden yell. North's eyes widened in surprise at the sight of tables flipped over with blankets covering them. Beds that were in extra bedrooms were lined up in a way that looked like a battlefield. Feathers littered the floor and a serious battle seemed to be taking place.
"Go left! Go left!" shouted the familiar voice of Jack Frost. "We need to cut them down!"
North couldn't contain his laugh at the sight of the winter spirit in his snowflake covered pajamas running around whacking his pillow into yetis and elves who were on the opposite team. Flurries of feathers erupted when contact was made, and everyone seemed to be taking this fight very, very seriously.
Jack ducked behind a fort and said to an elf, "You need to distract them so we can get a better shot." The little elf saluted him and ran into the midst of the battle, screaming its head off.
Jack blinked owlishly. "Okay. That works too."
North watched, amused as the fight became more and more intense. It seemed that Jack's team was winning and North suddenly found himself wishing he had a bag of popcorn as he watched the battle lay out. Even Phil, who was usually so grumpy, was having fun.
"AH! I've been hit!" cried Jack as a pillow was smacked into his chest. He fell down dramatically, hugging his pillow to his chest. "Tell my family I love them!"
Family. Jack was referring to North and the other Guardians. While Jack was just being dramatic and silly, North couldn't help but smile at the comment. The battle ended soon after Jack's defeat, and the winter spirit's laugh echoed through the halls.
"That...that was fun," exclaimed Jack. He looked around. "Although, we probably are gonna have to clean up now."
The yetis and elves all frowned. Jack chuckled.
"Okay, one more round. But that's it," he said. Jack stood up and dusted himself off and they all immediately began to set up again.
But one round turned into two. And two turned into three. The Pillow Fight Wars went on all day long and North had never seen the yetis and elves happier. When the last battle was played, Jack and the creatures of Santoff Claussen proceeded to clean up.
Jack was sweeping away feathers when North walked up to him. Jack gave him his signature smile.
"Hey, North!" he greeted him cheerfully. "You just missed the most epic battle yet!"
Jack hadn't noticed North watching the skirmishes, but North said, "Oh, really?"
Jack nodded. "Yeah! You know, maybe we could have a Pillow Fight War with you and the others some time. It'll be fun!"
North ruffled his hair, making Jack laugh. "That does sound fun. Although there will be big clean up afterwards."
Jack shrugged. "That's the only downside. The upsides are pretty great though."
"The upsides?" repeated North.
Jack's smile grew larger. "Giggles, fun, and every battle leaves you feeling so. Much. Better."
North smiled and patted his shoulder. "Well then, I guess we should have fight tomorrow then."
"Yep!" said Jack. "And don't forget to wear your pajamas!"
Author's Note: With my Guardians of Childhood book set came a Jack Frost poster with a little bit of information on him, and during his off-season, Jack and the yetis and elves have huge, epic pillow fight wars that are super huge, super intense, and super fun. The whole idea was just too cute and I had to write a fanfiction for it! =D
Until the next story!
