Author's Note: Hey guys, I'm trying something different here so bear with me ;)
The basic outline is that Kara gets given by Cat Grant to Lena Luthor be her new assistant for a trial period and things develop from there so yeah...we'll see how this goes...
As always, I own nothing. Enjoy!
Nothing I Wouldn't Do For You
Part 1
Lena set her now empty glass down on the table in front of her and sat back, crossing her legs at the knees and lifting her shoulders in a slight shrug.
"And why would I take on one of yours?"
Cat had that well known sharp smile on her face; the one that said she was going to get what she wanted no matter what and Lena knew this as well.
"Well she's smart, dedicated; she'd be a credit to you."
"Would she now?" Lena asked, one perfect eyebrow arched.
Cat rolled her eyes and let out a sigh.
"Would I really be sending her to you if she wasn't any good? I wouldn't want her making me look bad."
Lena guessed that made sense but she said nothing for the time being.
Cat lent across her desk, making Lena take her seriously.
"It's just a trial period, what harm will it do?"
Lena glanced out the window and pursed her lips.
"Come on, Lena. You need a new assistant anyway. I promise you, you won't be disappointed."
Lena looked at Cat and finally nodded her head.
"Ok, fine."
Cat smiled brilliantly.
"Fantastic! I'll let Kara know immediately and send her over."
Lena stood and picked up her bag.
"She starts tomorrow. Let's hope she's as good as you say she is."
Cat nodded her agreement.
"She is. You won't regret this, Lena."
Lena rolled her eyes but there was a small smile on her face.
"We'll see."
Kara watched as Lena left Cat's office and gave her a small, knowing smile as she walked past her.
Kara watched the Luthor step into the elevator and didn't take her eyes off her until the doors slid closed.
"Kara!"
Kara turned at the sound of her name and found Cat standing in the doorway to her office, arms folded, no expression.
Kara nodded and walked towards her boss.
Cat turned away and went to sit behind her desk as Kara came in standing in front of her expectantly.
"Take a seat." Cat said as if bored, waving to the seat Lena had just vacated.
Kara did as she told, licking her lips, her eyes darting back and forth behind her glasses.
"I just had a lovely chat with Ms Luthor."
Kara frowned but didn't say anything. She had heard that Ms Luthor had moved to National city and as much as she didn't want to paint her with the same brush as her brother, Kara was still wary.
A Luthor was still a Luthor after all.
"You-you did?" Kara eventually spoke up when she realised Cat was waiting for her to say something.
"I did and we have both had such a great idea, Kara, I think you'll love it."
"Me-me?" Kara stammered pointing at herself.
Cat nodded, that pleased smile still on her face.
"Yes. We both agreed that a trial period at Luthor Corp would do you good."
Kara's eyes widened.
"You're...transferring me?"
"Temporarily." Cat added.
"But why?"
Cat frowned slightly as she waved her hand around flippantly.
"Oh you know, growth, experience, that kind of thing."
"But I'm a reporter-I mean- I want to be a reporter."
"I know but a year as Ms Luthor's assistant will give you the grit I think you are sorely lacking."
Kara blinked.
"A year? Ms Luthor's assistant? Grit?"
Cat's frown deepened and she looked down at the diary, open on her desk.
"Yes to all 3 and you start tomorrow. 9 AM."
"T-tomo-"
"Tomorrow. Yes. That'll be all, Kara."
Kara nodded but sat there, numb. She didn't know what to think.
Her boss had just shipped her off to be an assistant to Ms Luthor and it was for a whole year?! What if she and Lena Luthor didn't get on? She couldn't stick it out there for a year! And if things went really bad and she had to leave, Cat wouldn't have her working at Catco again until the year trial was up.
"Kara."
Kara looked up at the mention of her name and found Cat staring at her.
"Yes...Ms Grant?"
"Why are you still in my office?"
Kara blinked.
"Oh I um-"
"Go. Now." She snapped.
Kara jumped up and backed out of Cat's office, muttering her apologies until she was out the door.
Alex had a big smile on her face as she walked into Kara's apartment holding a pizza box. That smile soon dropped however when she saw her sister hugging a pillow, curled up on her couch.
"Kara?" Alex said gently, setting the pizza down on the table and coming over to kneel beside her sister.
"Kara, what's wrong?"
Kara sighed. She hadn't been crying so that wasn't too bad then; she just looked really, really down.
"Cat gave me to Lena Luthor."
Alex's eyes widened.
"What?! Is that even legal?!"
"No, no not like that. I-I said it wrong," Kara sighed and began again,
"Cat has said I'm to work with-for-Lena for a year as her assistant."
Alex frowned and shrugged.
"Why?"
"She thinks it will give me 'grit'."
"Grit?" Alex echoed.
Kara nodded.
Alex thought about it for a little while.
"Well...maybe working for Lena won't be so bad. Maybe she's...nice."
Kara looked at her sister and frowned deeply.
"Nice? She's Lex's sister."
"I know, it sounded strange when I said it." Alex admitted.
"Well, I don't want to say she's the same as him but-"
"You're wary, I get that."
Kara nodded her head slowly.
"A Super and a Luthor working together...can it work?"
"Well she wouldn't know you're Supergirl so technically it's a Danvers and a Luthor working together."
Kara looked at her sister and saw her grin which caused Kara to laugh.
Alex then reached up and hugged her sister.
"At least I made you laugh."
Kara nodded as she smirked.
"Yes, you did."
Alex pulled back and brushed Kara's fringe from her eyes.
"So when do you start?"
"Tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?!"
At Kara's panicked look, Alex calmed her voice.
"I mean, that's fine. That's totally fine. You're gonna be ok Kara." She said the last part with more sincerity.
Kara nodded.
"Let's hope so."
The L Corp building looked huge as Kara stepped through it's shiny double faced doors and looked up at the high ceiling.
Clutching her notepad to her chest, Kara swallowed and looked at the reception desk where a polished, sophisticated looking woman sat at a computer, staring at the screen.
Kara walked up to her and forced a polite smile onto her face even though her heart was racing and her palms were sweating; with this reaction, no one would have ever believed she was Supergirl.
"Um...hi-hello, I'm here to see Lena-Ms Luthor-Lena Luthor." Kara cursed herself for babbling but the receptionist just smiled and nodded.
"Of course. You must be Ms Danvers. Right this way."
Kara followed the woman to an elevator and stepped into it as the woman pressed the button for the top floor and then stood there in silence.
Kara licked her lips nervously and the receptionist chuckled.
"Are you nervous?"
Kara nodded.
"Hm hm. A little."
"Don't be. Ms Luthor is so kind and understanding."
"Really?" Kara asked hopefully.
"Oh don't get me wrong, she's the boss and she makes it known but she's nothing like her brother. I think that's what everyone was afraid of deep down when she moved to National City."
Kara nodded in agreement.
All too soon the elevator stopped and binged.
Kara flinched.
"Here we are. She'll open the door as soon as you leave this elevator."
Kara frowned.
"H-how does she know I'm here?"
The receptionist pointed to a small, barely visible camera in the corner.
"She sees everything."
Kara blushed and the receptionist grinned without showing her teeth.
"You'll be fine, Ms Danvers."
Kara nodded and the doors slid back, allowing her to exit the elevator and just as the woman had predicted, the door to Lena's office opened and the woman herself was standing just inside.
"Kara, how nice to see you." Lena said pleasantly as she extended her hand. Kara took it, noticing the gentle but firm grip of a professional business woman.
Lena let go and walked back to her desk as Kara followed.
"Please, take a seat. We have much to discuss and not very much time."
Kara put her bag down beside her and opened up the notepad, her pen out and ready to jot down whatever Lena had to say.
Lena looked at her, slightly amused.
Kara blinked.
"What?"
"Nothing it's just..."
"Just what?"
"Well, who uses notepads anymore?"
Kara frowned like she was offended and Lena smiled gently at her.
"Forgive me. Being around all this new tech all day makes one forget that pens and paper still actually exist."
Kara relaxed then and smiled.
"Ok, so let's get down to it." Lena began.
Kara nodded.
"Cat has given you to me, so to speak, for a year as some kind of trial."
Kara nodded.
"During this time, you are to act as my assistant; now I'm no Cat Grant but the tasks remain the same; getting coffee, arranging my business lunches, meetings, events, things like that. You're used to all that kind of thing, right?" She asked as she fixed Kara with a look.
Again, Kara nodded but didn't say anything.
A grin played across Lena's lips then.
"However, I'm not Cat Grant and I won't scream at you if my coffee is brought in cold or if it's the wrong order etc... are you keeping up so far?"
Kara nodded her head.
"Good."
Lena talked fast; about her expectations, what was required of Kara, things that Lena would do and ask for that might seem a little odd to Kara but she promised to hide nothing and always make sure that Kara wasn't left to figure things out on her own if she became stuck or unable to perform any tasks.
At the end of the 'briefing' Lena lent across the table and looked Kara straight in the eye.
"Now, is there anything you wish to ask me or anything that I have not made myself clear on?"
Kara shook her head.
"I do have one more question for you Kara and it is a serious one so speak honestly."
Kara nodded, her eyes widened slightly.
"Can you hold a conversation?"
When Kara's lips parted slightly in shock at the question, Lena grinned and then laughed which had Kara blushing and looking away.
"I'm sorry but it's just you have yet to say more than five words to me. You must really be nervous." It wasn't an accusation, she had said it with kindness and understanding.
"I am. A little." Kara admitted.
Lena took one of Kara's hands across her pristine white desk and held it.
"You needn't be Kara. I want to make your limited time at L Corp enjoyable. Yes it's work but who says that work should be dull and boring?"
Kara smiled at that.
Lena was right, she was nothing like Cat Grant and maybe working at L Corp with Lena Luthor wouldn't be as bad as she's thought.
Lena let go of Kara's hand and sat back.
"Right, first things first."
Kara was at her notepad again.
"Coffee."
Kara nodded as Lena ordered what she wanted.
"You got all that?" She asked, adding some pastries to her order.
"Yes. I'll get that right away."
"And what would you like? On me, of course." Lena added with a smile as Kara stood up.
"M-me?"
"Yes. I assume you're hungry."
"I am but..."
"But what?"
"Well it's just Cat- I mean- Ms Grant would never-"
"Kara, I told you, I'm not Cat."
Kara smiled and Lena returned it.
"Now go order whatever you want, here's my card and I'll see you back here in let's say... fifteen minutes? Then we can talk about this meeting I've got coming up this week I should really prepare for."
Kara smiled brightly and nodded, then left to fulfil her first task as Lena Luthor's assistant.
The first week of being Lena Luthor's assistant was going pretty well.
Lena was kind, attentive and she didn't ask too much of Kara. In fact, Kara was enjoying being Lena's assistant. She quickly realised that she could do this for a year no problem. Lena and herself got on so well and she wasn't ego driven like Kara had expected her to be. She was just...Lena.
As Kara typed up a schedule on the monitor in front of her, Lena came out of her office, coat slung over her arm. She was going out.
"Kara, I'm meeting a friend for lunch. I'll be gone about an hour. Will you be alright?"
Kara smiled brightly at the dark haired woman.
"Of course."
Lena smiled, looking grateful. She probably needed a break from the office. Kara knew by her schedule that the Luthor had a lot of meetings to attend.
"I'll be back in exactly one hour but if you need me, I have my phone."
Kara nodded, promising herself that she would not call Lena unless it was an absolute emergency.
Lena hadn't touched her drink and Andrea kept giving her a knowing look.
"So what's got you so distant?"
Lena blinked and then sat up a little straighter.
"I didn't realise I was."
Andrea took a sip of her wine and winked at Lena.
"Something distracting you? Besides work I mean."
Lena let out a small sigh but she wasn't tired or bothered, it was just something she did, Andrea had noticed.
"Well not exactly."
"Tell me."
Lena rolled her eyes but she was smiling at the same time.
"Cat Grant gave me an assistant."
Andrea's eyes widened a little at that.
"That's... generous?" She tried.
Lena shrugged and pushed the plate away from her, the salad untouched.
"Well she's on a trial for a year. Cat thinks it will benefit the both of us somehow."
"And is it?"
"She's a good assistant. She doesn't need training, that's for sure."
"So what's the problem?"
"There's no problem; Kara is kind and sweet, she's thoughtful and caring-"
"Ohh no." Andrea cut in which made Lena look up, her sea green eyes wide with apprehension.
"What?" She asked slowly, carefully.
Andrea sat back, a knowing smile on her lips as she picked up her wine glass.
"You like your temporary assistant."
"What! No! That's ridiculous!"
"Is it?"
"Kara isn't like that."
"How do you know?"
"Oh come on, you'd only have to look at her to know that she's not like me." Lena said, a hint of bitterness in her voice.
Andrea grinned and then she looked down, the grin slipping almost at once.
"Does she know?"
"Know what?"
"About you?"
Lena frowned and also looked down at the table.
"No." She almost whispered.
Andrea frowned deeply.
"Why? Len, I told you, being bi is nothing to be ashamed of."
"I'm not ashamed of it." She snapped back quickly.
"Then why not tell her?"
"Because it's none of her business!" Lena suddenly shouted and then looked around when a few heads turned their way and hid her face with her hand, looking embarrassed.
Andrea licked her lips.
"If you like her, it needs to be her business."
Lena's jaw tightened and she grabbed the menu even though she wasn't planning on ordering anything else.
"Who says I like her? It's only been a week."
Andrea gave her a warm smile.
"Sometimes you just know and I think you do. Len, just be open. Tell her, see what she says and then you'll know if it's worth pursuing."
Lena frowned.
"She's just an assistant."
Andrea knew from the way Lena had gone back to looking at the menu and her tone of voice that this conversation was over.
Kara smiled as Lena walked past her desk and straight into her office.
No hello, no how are you, nothing.
Kara frowned as the door shut.
Maybe lunch with her friend hadn't gone so well?
Kara drummed her fingers on the desk and frowned. Maybe she should go in and ask if Lena was ok. That's what a friend would do but Kara wasn't Lena's friend, she was her assistant.
Kara worried her bottom lip before she made a decision.
Getting up, she straightened her skirt and knocked lightly on Lena's door.
"Come in." Lena called out but her voice sounded strange.
When Kara walked into the office, she found Lena behind her own desk, concentrating hard on her computer screen but as soon as she saw Kara, her eyes widened and she froze.
"Lena -Ms Luthor- are you ok?"
Lena blinked and her mouth opened and closed like a fish until she found words.
Stupid Andrea, putting ideas in her head like this, now she couldn't even form a sentence.
"I'm fine...and you?"
Kara nodded and then shut the door behind her as she came further into the office.
"Yeah, I'm good- great even! I was just worried...about you."
"Me?"
"Well it's just you came back from lunch and you just didn't look right- I don't mean you didn't look right, you always look good- not that I'm looking but it's just..." Kara let her sentence trail off, knowing she was digging herself a huge hole here.
Lena would only ever admit to herself that she found Kara's babbling adorable.
Kara took a breath and then looked at Lena again.
"I meant...are you ok, after lunch with your friend?"
Lena nodded, feeling a lot calmer.
"Yes, Kara I'm fine."
Kara smiled, relieved.
"Good. That's good. Then I'll let you get back to your work."
She turned away and Lena suddenly found that she didn't want her to go.
"Kara, wait."
Kara stopped and turned back around.
Lena steepled her fingers as she lent on her desk.
"Um...take a seat-please."
Kara nodded but she felt nervous now.
Oh Rao, was she being fired?
Lena also felt nervous but she hoped it wasn't obvious.
What if she decided she doesn't want to work for me anymore because of this?
Kara sat down.
"Am I- am I not doing a good job...?"
Lena frowned.
"What? Oh! No, no Kara, this isn't about your job, it isn't even about you really."
Kara put a hand to her heart and let out a breath.
"Oh good. I was worried you were going to send me back to Cat."
"Don't you want to go back?"
"Well at some point but I do like working for you, Lena- Ms Luthor."
Lena felt a smile tug at her lips and her heart which was normally encased in ice to save it from being broken more than it already was, felt a little warmer at Kara's admission.
"Lena is fine." She said softly and Kara smiled shyly.
Lena looked down and then took in a breath as she looked straight at Kara.
"I like you working here too Kara. Which is why I think I need to be completely open with you."
Kara nodded.
"Okay..."
Lena licked her lips before she pushed ahead.
"Kara, I'm bi."
Kara stared at Lena.
"Ok."
"Ok? Just ok?"
Kara shrugged.
"Well it's up to you who you choose to love, Lena. It's really none of my business. You didn't even need to tell me if you felt it wasn't something I needed to know."
Lena blinked at that.
"Some people don't take kindly to people like me, Kara. I understand that some might feel uncomfortable which is why I told you. I would completely understand if you didn't want to work with someone like me...because of that."
Kara frowned.
"Lena you're brilliant. You're smart and driven. You care and you're kind...it doesn't matter to me that you're bi. It's just a part of you, it doesn't define who you are as a person."
Lena smiled.
Kara understood. She really understood and it was all Lena could have hoped for.
A bright smile appeared on the Luthor woman's face.
"I'm glad you feel that way Kara."
Kara nodded, mirroring Lena's smile.
Lena sat back, feeling a lot better than she had done.
Alex stared at her sister, her mouth slightly open as she processed what Kara had told her.
"So Lena just told you she's bi?"
Kara nodded as she plucked a chip from the bowl in front of them.
"Yep."
Alex blinked.
"Kara...does Lena like you?"
Kara frowned.
"Not like that, no."
"Then why tell you she's bi?"
Kara shrugged as she popped the chip into her mouth.
"I dunno, she said she didn't want to me feel uncomfortable."
Alex listened but her brow furrowed as she came up with her own theory.
"And you don't..."
"What? Me? No, no Alex. I like Lena just fine but I don't like her, like her, y'know."
Alex nodded and then a small smile appeared on her face as she sat back and crossed her legs.
"She is hot though."
Kara didn't say anything as she picked the chip bowl up and set it in her lap.
Alex scratched at her chin as she licked her lips.
"Maybe I should ask her out."
Kara paused and looked at her sister.
"You want to go out with Lena?"
She said it slowly as though she was trying to get her head around the idea.
Alex shrugged.
"Why not? She's hot, we're both single. I bet she's a lot of fun."
Kara nodded.
"She's kind too and caring."
Finally deciding that Lena and her sister would make a good match, she nodded firmly with a smile on her face.
"Yeah, ok, I'll talk to her tomorrow. See if she wants to go out with you."
Alex nodded and smiled, lifting her beer in the air.
"It's a date."
Kara nodded in agreement.
"It's a date."
Why did that sound so wrong?
Lena smiled as Kara walked into her office and handed her the schedule for the day.
"Thank you Kara." Lena said pleasantly as she took the papers and smiled.
She seemed better today, happier. Maybe she was relieved that Kara had accepted her as she was so quickly.
Kara wrung her hands and Lena saw the nervous look in Kara's eyes.
"Something wrong Kara?"
"Oh, no, no I just- there's something I have to ask you."
Lena set the papers down and gave Kara her full attention.
Kara took a breath, worrying her bottom lip between her teeth which Lena would admit she found slightly distracting.
"You know I have a sister?"
Lena nodded.
"I do."
"Well, my sister-Alex- she's-she's gay- a lesbian."
Lena blinked.
"Okay."
"And she...well, I just think that-that you two might hit it off if you went out-together." Kara added.
Lena looked at her nervous temporary assistant, not knowing what to think.
Kara wanted to set her up with her sister?
Lena sat back, thinking.
"If you don't want to it's fine. She won't be upset or anything. Not that being rejected by you isn't upsetting- it must be." She said quickly and just like that, Kara found herself babbling again.
"I mean, look at you! Who wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't get to go out with you!"
"Kara," Lena said gently, softening her gaze on the other woman.
"I'll go out with your sister."
Kara looked at her Lena, her eyes huge.
"You will?"
Lena nodded with a small smile.
"Yes. I would love to meet Alex."
Kara let out a breath and smiled brightly.
"That's...that's great! I'll uh-I'll let her know."
Lena nodded.
"Ok, so now that's sorted, I really should get back to work."
Kara nodded.
"Of course." She said and she started backing out of Lena's office to go back to her own desk.
Kara watched Alex get ready for her date with Lena.
"Where are you going?" Kara asked.
She had given Alex Lena's number and she knew they'd been texting for a week or so. Alex had insisted she be the one to take Lena out so Kara had no idea where Alex was planning on taking the Luthor.
Alex shrugged on a blazer and looked at herself in the mirror.
"I was going to take Lena to that bar that just opened. It seems classy enough."
Kara nodded.
"Do you think you'll be out late?"
Alex frowned but there was an amused grin on her face too.
"Why? You worried she'll do something to me?"
Kara chuckled but there was no humour in it.
"No, just..."
"On second thought, I hope she does so I might not be back till morning." She said with a wink and Kara bit the inside of her cheek.
Lena and her sister. On a date. They might kiss, they might...do other things.
Kara shook her head.
Why had she set this up?
Alex grabbed her clutch purse and gave Kara a bright smile.
"Ok, I'm all set. Don't wait up." She said with a grin as she opened the door.
Kara laughed.
"Hahaha...ha...ha, what have I done?" She whispered as the door shut behind her sister.
Lena sat at the bar as she waited for Alex.
Alex had texted her the address of the bar and what time. Lena liked that Alex had taken charge, it made a nice change.
As Lena sipped her wine, Alex approached her at the bar and shamelessly looked her up and down.
"You look lovely tonight." She said, eyeing Lena's wine red dress.
Lena smiled and nodded at Alex's own sharply cut but feminine suit.
"As do you."
Alex took a seat beside Lena and ordered a drink. Lena wanted to seem interested but it was hard when the wrong sister was sitting next to her.
Alex gave her a knowing smile as she took her drink from the bartender.
"Ok, now that we're here. Let's talk."
Lena blinked at Alex's sudden change of tone. She wasn't firm or rude, it was just different.
"You came out to my sister."
Lena ducked her head before regaining her confidence.
"I did, yes."
"Why?" Alex asked with a kind smile.
Lena shrugged.
"I wanted to make sure that she'd be comfortable working for someone like me."
Alex nodded and then tilted her head.
"But you keep your private life...private, from everyone, why feel the need to clue Kara in?"
Lena opened her mouth to respond but found that she couldn't find the words.
Instead, Alex saved her embarrassment.
"Lena, let's be real here; you like my sister."
Lena blushed and found she couldn't hide the smile that came to her lips.
"It's ok. For a little while now, Kara comes home and tells me all about you; what you do, how you make her life at your corporation easy, how there's no pressure and if she has any worries, you get rid of them as quickly as possible. Then after all that, you come out to her and only her. No one else at L Corp knows you're bi, do they?"
Lena shook her head, finding her confidence fading fast at being found out.
Alex's posture relaxed as she gave Lena a warm smile.
"Why don't you tell her?"
Lena frowned.
"Because Kara is straight."
"Is she though?"
Lena blinked.
"You mean she's not?"
Alex shrugged and sat back.
"Between you and me? I think she just needs a little push." Alex said with a wink before she picked up her drink and took a sip.
Lena's mind started reeling; Kara could feel like she did about her too? It was almost too much to take in and not enough information at the same time but then she was sitting with Kara's sister, what better way to find out how to get to Kara and pique her interest than to ask the very one who knew her the most?
Lena looked up at Alex, feeling more confident now she had a plan in place.
"So if all Kara needs is a little push...how do I go about doing that?"
Alex smiled.
"Be gentle but take charge. Kara may be strong-"
Lena frowned.
"How so?"
Uh oh. They were talking about Kara, not Supergirl, even though they were one and the same but Lena didn't know that...yet.
Alex blinked and tried to hide how awkward she felt.
"Well I just mean that she acts strong but she's so not. Just show her that you can be dominate, that works for her and maybe, I dunno, flirt a little. You can flirt can't you?"
To Lena it sounded like a challenge and to prove it, Lena beckoned the bartender over.
"Yes ma'am?"
Lena lowered her lashes and raised her chin, looking seductive.
"Can I have another drink for my friend please? and maybe get yourself one, on me."
The bartender blushed and nodded, scratching his head as he smiled bashfully and went to get another drink.
Alex grinned.
"Ok, I'm convinced. But maybe be a bit more subtle with Kara. She's doesn't like forceful people."
Lena frowned, confused.
"You just said be dominant."
"I know but come on, this won't be difficult for you Lena. You're a Luthor, after all."
Lena 's frown turned to one of anger as she stared Alex down.
"So just because I'm a Luthor I'm supposed to know how easy it is to manipulate someone into bed?"
Alex nearly spit out her drink.
"No, no that's not what I meant! I just meant-"
Lena raised a hand and sighed.
"No, it's fine. I get it."
Alex and Lena sat together in awkward silence then and the bartender came back with the drink, smiling at Lena as he set it down.
"So um, I finish in a hour, maybe you'd like to come with me and-"
"Bother somebody else." Lena muttered irritably and the bartender backed off, once again embarrassment showing on his face.
"Little harsh." Alex murmured.
Lena shook her head and slid off the bar stool.
"I'm going home."
Alex sighed.
"Lena,"
The Luthor stopped and looked at Alex.
"Give Kara a chance. She likes you, I can tell."
Lena nodded, giving her a sad smile.
She hoped Alex was right.
Lena decided that despite how last night had gone, she would try to give Kara that little push that Alex had suggested she needed.
She clung to the hope that Kara did indeed like Lena in the same way, even if she wasn't aware of it yet.
Lena frowned as she lent against her desk, thinking.
What if Alex was wrong and Kara didn't feel the same way? She was the one who had set Lena up with Alex after all.
Lena scratched the back of her neck, worried now that this was the wrong thing to do but then the door opened and Kara breezed into her office, Lena's coffee in hand.
"Morning."
Lena smiled and was instantly smitten with how this girl with her personality like sunshine could brighten up her dark office so much.
Wow, Lena had it bad.
"M-morning." Lena stuttered, forcing a smile that wasn't quite as bright as Kara's.
Kara set the coffee down on Lena's desk and hesitated.
She wanted to ask how the date went, Lena realised and her heart skipped a little.
"So um, how-how was it-the date I mean."
"Oh, yes it was...fine."
Kara stared at Lena as if she was looking for something in Lena's eyes that would give her true feelings away.
"Just fine?"
Lena nodded as she picked up a coffee, took a sip then set it back down after finding out it was too hot. How could Kara get a coffee here still piping hot when the coffee shop was a few blocks away? The woman was astounding.
"Your sister is a lovely person."
Kara nodded and smiled but now the smile looked forced or was that just Lena being hopeful?
Kara looked down at her own coffee.
"So...do you think you'll want to see her again?"
Lena grinned, flirting a little, like Alex had told her to.
"Do you want me to see her again?"
Kara chuckled nervously then cleared her throat.
"Why-why would that bother me? I mean if you want to see Alex again then I get it- she's a great person and so are you so..."
Lena nodded.
"She really is but we just didn't-"
"Didn't what?" Kara cut in quickly.
Inside, Lena grinned but she held it back from Kara; it was too soon to show the other woman that Kara's reaction pleased her.
"We just didn't have that...chemistry, you know?"
Kara nodded and was it Lena's imagination or did the blonde just let out a breath?
"Yeah, yeah I get it. Oh well, you can't force something that's not there."
Lena nodded.
"Exactly."
"Well I should let you-" Kara began as she backed up to the doors.
"Kara."
"Y-yeah?"
Lena licked her lips and folded her arms as she lent against her desk, looking the ever professional but dominant business woman.
"I'm going to see this film that just came out tomorrow night, won't you come with me?"
Kara blinked.
"As your assistant or...as..."
"My friend." Lena said and she saw the light dim in Kara's eyes.
Ah, so there was something there.
Lena so badly wanted to push her luck but she held back, not wanting to make Kara feel uncomfortable.
Kara opened her mouth to respond but Lena got in first.
"Only if you want to. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable. It's just you were so good to me when I came out to you and I think we really could be good friends but only if you want to."
Kara nodded, plastering a smile onto her face.
"Sure. I'd love to."
Lena smiled.
"Brilliant. I'll have James pick you up at six tonight."
Kara nodded as Lena walked towards her and got close.
"And don't worry, I promise I won't make you sit in the back row with me. We all know what happens there." She said with a wink.
Kara chuckled nervously but the blush blossomed on her cheeks and she left Lena's office, clutching her coffee tightly in her hands.
Lena grinned after the door shut and let out a satisfied breath.
This was going to be fun.
