Slughorn's Party
"Come with me."
Ron slowly turned his head toward his best friend.
"What?" Harry asked, stopping working on his history homework.
"You sure? People are throwing themselves right and left at you. You could go with anyone, literally anyone you want.
Harry shrugged, "So what? These people won't think for a second to turn on me if something happens tomorrow, which following the years should happen around this time."
"Sides, if I'm going to this overbearing, stuffy party, you should be the part of torture too."
"Fine."
Harry smiled at him adorably and went back to his homework.
Ron leaned back and thought about the implication of going to Slughorn's Christmas party with Harry. Earlier the year, Hermione had invited 'Cormac Mclaggen' of all the people. For someone as smart as her, how she couldn't see what a piece of a shit that guy was, was beyond him. He had mentioned his concerns to Harry, who had told her that talking with Hermione would achieve nothing and they could do nothing other than just being there for her when everything comes back to bite back in her arse. With some reluctance, he agreed and left it there.
Stretching his neck he slouched into the sofa, his eyes wandering around the common room and settling on Harry. Ron observed this happened to be a frequent occurrence these days. Ever since the summer holidays he had been spending more and more time with Harry alone. Which was saying something because they already spent an unhealthy amount of time together according to Fred. What would Fred know anyway?
He wouldn't know how Harry frowns his brow when he is thinking about something unpleasant like he was doing now. Or how he bit his lip when contemplating something. How he would scrunch his nose at the mess in their dorm. How his eyes would light up when he discovered something. No, Fred would never know how amusing it is to watch Harry.
And what if he did it more than usual this summer? Harry had lost Sirius, the most important person to him. If he gave Harry a little too much attention no one could exactly blame him. He just wanted his best mate to be happy and healthy. And Ron wanted to be the person who makes Harry happy. It's that simple. And if Harry wanted him to go to a party with him then he would gladly go with him.
Luna had appeared from nowhere as he and Harry were on their way to the party. The smile she had scared the shit out of Ron more than he would like to admit.
"Hello, Luna."
"Hello to you too, Ronald. It's good to see wracksport free people during this time of year. They are quite rare. This is their mating season, you see."
He smiled politely, not offering any kind of reply. That's the best strategy to use with Luna. Go along with her.
"Thanks, Luna, enjoy Christmas."
Harry smiled at her fondly before moving away. He never understood Harry's fondness for Luna but there must be something about her that made Harry like her. Harry doesn't bestow his affections around just anyone. Only privileged people had that honour. This thought puffed his chest much as humbled him.
Not for the first did the thought enter his mind as to exactly why Harry is a friend. This thought process had started when he had been declared as the person who would be missed most by Harry. The moment in the headmaster's office was one of the most surprising moments in his life.
Harry stopped at the entrance and took a deep breath, bracing himself. Nodding to himself he tugged Ron's hand and dragged him inside.
Ron flopped on his bed, "Good food, good company and little adventure by side. Dream date. Now complete this date with a nice kiss mate."
He tried not to think about how he felt when he was plastered to Harry's back when they were under the invisibility cloak, spying on Malfoy.
Now, Ron had closed his eyes, that's why he didn't see a face coming closer to him until he felt breath on his face. Before he would react, lips were pressed against his. Nice pair of lips, soft and talented. Who pulled back way too early.
Blinking his eyes open he saw well admired (for a very good reason) eyes of his best friend and noticed his awkward slouch on him.
Not wanting to distress Harry he pulled him closer so that Harry laid in the bed with him and kissed him again. Their arms went around each other, his around Harry's waist, tugging him closer, Harry's hand went to his hair, doing wonderful to his scalp as much as his tongue was doing to his. They spent hours in this new pleasures activity before just laying her, still wrapped around each other.
"Why haven't we done this before? This is bloody brilliant."
Harry rested his chin on his chest so that they could look at each other. "We are pretty oblivious, both of us. And I thought you had a crush on Hermione."
Ron ran his hand through messy hairs, "I did, around the fourth year. How did you figure this out?" Ron asked, gesturing between them.
Harry huffed a laugh, "Around the time you kissed Lavender and I had a very strong urge to strangle her. What happened between you two anyway, you never told me?"
"Padma dared her to kiss her boy to prove her bisexuality."
"What the hell!"
"Exactly, brought my confidence down a peg."
"Oh well, they say one person's loss is another person's gain." Harry grinned his silly grin at him and pulled his mouth closer to him.
They decided to keep quiet about their relationship till they get used to it themselves, if they did sit a little too close at breakfast no one noticed. Except for Hermione. Who had a permanent smile on her face? They did tell Hermione, which brought unexpected bounds of tears and hugs.
