For now, these are going to be short chapters. I will update as fast as I can but once again, RL is hectic. Hope you are enjoying. I might edit some things later, who knows.

~Chapter 1: Early Dawn~

****Earlier that Morning****

Kenshin woke to an uneasy feeling, a presence that did not belong to the dojo. Going on alert, he got up quickly, slid open his shoji and looked around. He found a piece of paper folded neatly at his feet. He bent over and picked it up.

As he unfolded the paper, a tiny purple flower fell from the inner folds, falling delicately to the floor. Ignoring it for now, Kenshin read the letter:

Battosai, I wish to challenge you. If you do not accept, your friends will meet their end. Meet me near the forest shrine at noon. Tell no one.

It wasn't signed. The former manslayer's eyes narrowed. Someone was threatening his friends. Someone that breached his current home undetected by himself. Threatening him was one thing, he had done enough during the revolution to warrant many enemies, but his friends were innocent.

The rurouni glanced down at the flower. It was a tiny and beautiful dark purple with no leaves and almost no stem.

'If they were able to come in unnoticed, unless I go, everyone will be in danger.' Kenshin picked up the delicate flower and examined it more. It looked familiar, but from where.

Kenshin thought back to the days of the revolution. This flower meant something but what? He folded the flower back up into the letter and left his room, glancing up at the predawn sky.

'It is too early for anyone else to be awake, that it is'. He walked silently, going to check on his two sleeping companions. Seeing no distress he relaxed and stretched a bit. He would need to bide his time until noon; not only that, but he would also need to find out how to get away from everyone without alerting them. No need for them to fall into unneeded danger. Kenshin went to the kitchen to start breakfast.
