It's the day of the Sports Festival! An event anticipated by Japan every year. But this year is different. Everyone's eyes are on the first years, on the class that have gained notoriety for standing up against villains, on Class 1-A.
This is an interesting turn of events. To think the failure of our attack would give Izuku and his friends fame, I didn't expect it. Tenko thought.
Tenko crossed his arms as he laid back on his seat. then he looked around. He was the VIP area, surrounded by Pro Heroes that have chosen to watch the festival in person, which he thought was stupid, Don't you have people to protect, you scumbags?
Then inside, he smirked. You guys have been looking for the League of Villains since the attack, correct? And you can't even tell the ringleader is among you right now? He kept his delight to himself.
The sound of the seat next to him moving made Tenko snap out of his thoughts. He looked to see a man in an engine-themed hero costume.
"Ingenium?" Tenko blurted. The man looked at him and smiled.
"I'm not really at work, so please, call me Tensei. You're Izuku's brother, right?" Tensei reached out for a handshake. Tenko accepted.
"Tenya had told me about you. Thank you for taking care of my brother while he was visiting." He added. Tenko gave a slight smile at the man.
"It's time to stop your childish tantrum, Shouto! It's your chance to finally accept your other half- time to accept me and show the world who you're meant to be! The greatest hero of all!"
Shouto grimaced at his old man's words. Best words of encouragement, aren't they?
"Yes, Dad, don't worry, I'll be careful." Shouto heard a familiar voice from the other side of the lockers. He took a peek to find his green-haired friend on a call with his Dad.
"Of course, I know I need to take it down a notch so I don't destroy them... 'kay, bye." Izuku said then he hung up.
The green-haired boy's words angered Shouto that he slapped the other boy's phone from his hand. Everyone else at the locker room looked at them.
"Shouto, what are you-"
"How dare you?"
"What?" Izuku was thoroughly confused, both by his friend's actions and words.
"How dare you declare you'll half-ass this competition?"
Izuku looked at Shouto's anger-filled eyes in confusion.
"You were trained humanely to use your Quirk to its full potential AND YOU DARE DECLARE THAT YOU'LL HALF-ASS ALL OF THIS BECAUSE YOU FEEL LIKE IT?!"
Izuku winced at the last words.
"You were trained your whole life like a human being then you'll just discard it? Just like that?!" Shouto's voice was full of frustration, and the whole room went quiet.
Izuku finally understood what his friend was saying and he lowered his head, enough that his hair was covering his eyes, "...you thought I want to...?"
Izuku raised his head and looked Shouto straight in the eye, his eyes full of anger as well. Shouto flinched as he recognized the same look from the breach weeks ago.
"Alright, enough of that." Aizawa-sensei entered the room and separated the two boys but the two boys continued to glare at each other, and they both made the same declarations in their minds.
I'll show you. So you better last long enough for the two of us to face off in battle.
Class 1-A, along with the other first year classes walked out to the Freshmen Stage and formed lines. At the front, the chief referee, Midnight asked for the first year representative to come to the front. Katsuki went up the platform and faced his fellow first years.
To be perfectly honest? All of his classmates were expecting some bullshit speech about how he is the greatest of them, how he is number one, or how he will win, but instead they got a proper speech about heroism and how all of them should do their best. It felt out of character for the explosive boy.
This whole time, however, Izuku had been glaring at the back of the heterochromatic boy's head, his friend's stupid assumption echoing in his head.
"I'm half-assing because 'I feel like it'? Tch. Isn't that what you've been doing?" Izuku whispered as he clenched his fists.
Then it was time for the Obstacle Race to start.
"BEGIN!" Midnight's words signified the start of the first event. Izuku activated Air Cannon in his legs, jumping over the other students in front of him and immediately gaining the lead, then he ran towards the tunnel. As he ran inside, he activated a Quirk that let him observe the area above him from the sky: Bird's Eye View.
Robots, a canyon, and mine fields. Got it. He took note of what he saw from above, then he deactivated the Quirk as he got out.
The moment he was out of the tunnel, he looked up to find gigantic robots, then he activated two Quirks: Impact Recoil and Unbreakable. Let's see what you zero pointers can do!
A zero pointer locked on Izuku as its target then it brought its fist down on the boy. Izuku shielded his head with his arm and as soon as the robot's fist touched him, the force of its attack immediately backfired, pushing its fist back to itself and its flat face, and sending it tumbling down.
The from behind Izuku, he could hear crackling. He jumped up and faced back as he sent an Air Cannon punch towards the ice that was trying to catch up to him while he was on the air. As the ice shattered into pieces, Izuku was able to see the other students in the back who were unable to escape the trap.
Then in the corner of his eye, he saw a familiar bicolored boy run past him, making his eyes go wide.
Shit! Izuku cursed as he landed, then he continued his run.
Eventually, they were getting near "The Fall". Izuku activated three of his five main Quirks, Muscle Augmentation, Air Cannon, and Unbreakable. As long as he doesn't use any other strengthening Quirk while those five are active, he'll be fine. Izuku will beat Shouto without using Power Limb at max!
Using Air Cannon, Izuku jumped to the canyon while Shouto proceeded to use his ice to propel him while balancing on the ropes. Izuku clapped his hands, using the shock waves to propel himself forward.
They were nearing the end of the second stage and their rivalry was reaching its peak when something they didn't expect happened.
As they got to the other side of the canyon, something- or someone passed between them while leaving a loud explosion. Izuku landed on the ground, doing a roll to spread the impact throughout his body. Then he looked up only to see the back of Katsuki in the lead, making him grimace.
Izuku activated Muscle Augmentation and Fortify on his legs and ran. He felt something cold creep up one of his legs but he paid it no heed, as it was immediately shattered as he continued to sprint.
When he was nearer the blonde boy, he shouted the other boy's name, "KATSUKI!"
The other boy looked back to see rage-filled eyes which made him wince and slow down. Izuku sneered and he jumped up, revealing ice heading towards the blonde.
Katsuki was caught in Shouto's ice that was intended for Izuku, and the greenet was able to gain the lead again.
Katsuki immediately destroyed the ice with his explosions but not before Icy-Hot was able to run past him.
Izuku let out a satisfied laugh when he saw the third stage, the mine fields, just a few meters away. He covered the top of his eyes then activated an infrared vision Quirk. He saw the minefields and immediately memorized the path he needs to take to avoid setting them off.
He deactivated the Quirk and removed his hands from his face, then he ran much faster as he went along the path he memorized.
Halfway through the field, however, he heard explosions from behind him. He looked back to find Shouto riding his ice and Katsuki haphazardly using his explosion to get across, setting off multiple landmines.
Realizing that he'll soon lose his lead again if he doesn't do anything fast, he stopped in his tracks and activated four of his main Quirks. He raised his balled up fists then he hulk smashed the ground. Katsuki and Shoto winced.
The shockwave of the strengthened Air Cannon had set multiple landmines off, creating a chain reaction of explosions, sending Katsuki, Shoto, and Izuku flying. Only, Izuku was sent flying towards the stadium. His Fortify and Unbreakable Quirks had lessened the damage he would've received.
As he saw the tunnel getting closer, he did a maneuver to correct his body then he landed with a roll. He continued to run to the inside of the stadium where he got first place.
After securing first place, he collapsed on his knees and took multiple deep breaths.
I won... I won. He celebrated as he took his time to catch his breath for a few seconds. Adrenaline was still rushing through his body, that it made everything was quiet.
But once he's calmed down, he realized that it wasn't the adrenaline making him hear silence. The entire stadium itself was quiet.
He looked up to the giant monitor to find the result of his earlier action.
It was at that moment that the dust and bruise-covered Shouto and Katsuki arrived to receive second and third place, respectively. They both saw Izuku who was on his knees on the ground looking at the giant monitor.
The giant monitor featured the completely decimated landmine field. There were students that were able to use their Quirks to shield themselves, like Katsuki and Shoto, then there were the unlucky ones who were bruised and injured after they couldn't react in time because of the suddenness of the whole event.
The paramedics immediately went to work and assisted those who were visibly out of the competition, while those who were able to defend themselves, or those who were lucky enough to be nowhere near then, went through and secured their spots for the next event.
Over at the VIP area, however, Tenko noticed that Izuku just looked at the monitor the whole time. Expected, since he did cause all that chaos, but what he found interesting was that Izuku's face was completely neutral. He didn't look shocked or scared. It's like he was just watching an ordinary TV show.
In addition, Izuku was incredibly vicious during the whole race. It was completely out of character for his usually gentle little brother.
It was the first time Tenko saw their father in Izuku.
After the Obstacle Race finished, Izuku went to men's room to clean himself up.
Izuku continued to splash his face with water. Then he closed his eyes and took multiple deep breaths.
After one final breath, he opened them and he looked at himself on the mirror. Izuku had just realized the magnitude of what he had done. He had hurt multiple of his schoolmates- all so he wouldn't lose to Shoto and Katsuki. Anger had completely clouded his judgment at the time and he's not proud of it.
The sound of the door opening made Izuku flinch.
"Izuku? You okay?" It was his brother. Izuku eased up.
"Y-yeah. I'm fine now." Izuku answered as he wiped his face using his face towel. "The next event's in ten minutes, right?" He asked as he removed the towel on his face, then Izuku saw Tenko's worried face. Izuku winced then averted gazes.
"I know you're not okay, Izuku. I know that you feel bad for hurting the other students, so don't lie to me." Tenko told his little brother as he took his brother's towel and messed his hair.
"Come on." Tenko placed a hand on his brother's shoulder and led him out of the restroom. Izuku kept his head low.
"Izu-kun!"
Izuku winced at the voice and looked up. His eyes widened when he saw the bandaged Ochaco and Tenya. D-did I do that? Were they also there when I set off the mines?!
Then once Ochaco and Tenya got near them, Ochaco thanked him, "Izu-kun! Thank you for clearing up the mines! I mean- I feel bad about the people who got hurt- but thanks to you, we were able to secure spots in the next event!"
Izuku winced at his friend's words.
"Yes, thank you, Izuku." Said Tenya.
Izuku couldn't help himself and ended up crying at his friends' words of gratitude and at the relief he felt knowing that he didn't hurt his friends.
Ochaco and Tenya had actually acquired their bruises at the first two obstacles and they didn't deem them as serious as the wounds that the other students received at the last stage so they spent their time looking for Izuku. It was then that they found Tenko who cleaned and bandaged the bruises they had, before they met up with Izuku.
The two of them were shocked that their friend could do something like that but brushed it off as Izuku having to think at the last second and not thinking of the consequences.
Nemuri looked at the students in front of her. If she was to estimate, about 80% of the 40 students were covered in bruises before Recovery Girl healed their injuries. There were supposed to be 42 students who technically advanced, but the 2 students were too exhausted to continue after their treatments with Recovery Girl.
She placed her attention on Izuku who kept his head low this whole time. To think this boy had caused that incident. Nemuri looked up and took a deep breath and proceeded to explain the mechanics of the game. As she did, she realized how it will be difficult for Izuku to form a team of his own thanks to his points and his earlier action.
She just hopes he can get through this part of the sports festival.
Tenko saw from his VIP seat how his little brother was having a hard time looking for teammates before Ochaco and Tenya walked up to him and offered to be in his team. Then soon after, some random pink-haired girl offered to join them as well.
Izuku's team had Ochaco as the rider, the pink haired girl and Izuku as the 'wheels' and Tenya himself as the 'horse'.
If Tenko thought right, Izuku probably had Ochaco turn herself, the pink haired girl, and Izuku weightless, which would make it easier for Tenya and the girl's gadgets to move them around. Tenko wasn't surprised that his little brother was able to devise an effective strategy in under a few minutes.
Suddenly, his phone rang. He took it out of his pocket and checked to see who it was- 'Kurogiri'.
He let out a sigh, which his seatmate noticed.
"Is something wrong?" Tensei asked.
"Just work stuff." Tenko answered. As much as he wanted to watch Izuku in this event, he had other matters to attend to. Tenko stood up and left the VIP Area, then he headed to the nearest restroom. After checking that nobody else was there, he locked the door and answered the call.
"You found him?" Tenko asked.
"Yes, Tomura." The person on the other end of the call answered.
"Good. Open a portal to my location." Tenko hung up and slipped his phone back to his pocket. He faced the mirror and took a deep breath as a black portal appeared and a bag came flying from it, which Tenko easily caught. Inside, was a single hand from his villain costume.
He stuck the hand to his face, then he entered the portal.
On the other side of the portal was the bar, where Kurogiri and another person was waiting for him. A person he's been looking forward to meet. The Hero Killer, Stain.
"What did you want to meet me for?" Stain got to the point.
As Tenko was unwrapping the bandages covering his fingers, he introduced himself, "My name is Tomura Shigaraki and I wish for you join us." Tomura answered while taking a seat in front of the counter.
"Tomura Shigaraki? I see. So you're the League of Villains."
Tomura smiled under his mask, "Why don't you take a seat?"
"Why do you want to recruit me?" Stain got to the point again.
"Because I believe we both have the same beliefs, Stain. I believe that this society is full of false heroes. These 'heroes' only like the fame, money, and privileges they get for being one. Actually, I just came back from watching UA's Sports Festival, and had the honor- if you call it that- to sit among them. Apparently, watching kids fight is more important than saving people in danger."
"You came back from the Sports Festival?" Stain frowned, but Tomura assured him, "Don't worry, I wasn't planning on disturbing the peace there. After all, what use is meaningless chaos?"
Stain went quiet for a few seconds as he looked at the person in front of him. This boy...
"What are you after?" Stain asked. Tomura smirked under his mask, then he picked up a glass that was on the counter.
"I wish to create a new world, a world where the hypocrisy of 'heroes' no longer exist. A world where only those true to their cause are celebrated." Tomura answered as the glass he was holding slowly disintegrated.
Then he looked back at Stain and said, "Sounds good, don't you think?"
Stain could tell that the man in front of him was being serious. He took some time to decide, but ultimately, he agrees with the man before him.
"Alright. I'm in."
