Starstruck

You find yourself humming under your breath the song that girl from the audition performed as you leave set at the end of the day. It was a cute song, like her. The corners of your mouth curve up. Her enthusiasm and joy had been infectious, a bright spot in what had been an overall rough day.

Chuckling, you shake your head lightly. Why can't you get her out of your head? Do you really want to? the question brushes your mind. Heat rises in your cheeks.

Perhaps you can't forget her due to how she looked at you. There was no awe or intimidation in her expression after she recognized you. She had gazed at you like you were an ordinary guy, a cowboy, just Jackson. (Something flutters in your chest at the memory.)

Maybe it is because of how you feel drawn to her. She seemed grounded, so alive and real amidst this business of make-believe. A shiver had raced down your spine as you helped her stand. You lost yourself in her warm brown eyes. A wave of nostalgia washed over you as you watched her lasso. For the first time you wished to share the other part of your life – your home, family, horses – with someone, like…her. (Thinking about it now, you believe she was unaware of your interest, focused on her failed audition.)

Or the reason might simply be the fact you long to see the girl again. You never did get an answer to where she learned to swing a rope so well. You're curious to know why she wanted to be a part of the movie. What are her hobbies, her passions, her dreams? At the very least you have to discover her name. Bernie never caught it; Trevor didn't think it was worth knowing. (But knowing her name is important to you.)

Whatever the reason, you pass the evening plotting how you'll attempt to find the girl. And you drift to sleep imagining what you would say if you did meet her again.

THE END
