Didn't think I would get a second chapter out, this small story so quickly, anyway if you are reading this then welcome to be first proper chapter of the insecure demon Lord misadventures, the reason I'm writing this is because recently I've gotten into the manga How to not summon a demon Lord, even though it's not the best trapped in another world story out there, I actually found myself quite enjoying it, but to my surprise when I went looking there wasn't actually that many FanFiction stories about this series, so I decided I would try and contribute a story of my own to the series, I'm not going to reveal too much too early, but there will be many references and some slight crossovers with other notable fantasy series both western and eastern, so if you got a keen eye for a fantasy you might be able to spot those, but anyway without further ado I present to you the first proper chapter of the story
(p.s. If you spot any spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes just let me know, I do proofread my stuff but unfortunately I have dyslexia which means I tend to miss things even if I proofread it)
Waking up on the second day in this new world, certainly was an interesting experience, it turns out that both rem and Shera, toss and turn a lot in their sleep, meaning that when I woke up, we were all tangled up in a giant mess of bodies, somehow how I had managed to grope both of them by accident, despite discreetly trying to untangle myself from them, it didn't help as I managed to wake up Shera, her initial reaction was what I expected, she let out a kind of cute little scream, covering her chest with both arms, however she then said something that made my brain misfire for a second, she said that I should wait until I chose her, to do that kind of thing, but before I could process that any further Rem decided it was a great time to wake up as well, her reaction was a bit different, instead of immediately screaming, she instead went as stiff as a board, her face noticeably reddening, I did the first thing that came to mind which was to act as a demon Lord would be in this situation, and that was to compliment her on her underdeveloped chest, saying that it would be something truly beautiful one day, however all that seemed to do was pissed her off, and that brings me to now, I'm currently making my way towards the Adventurers Guild with my two companions, Shera happily bouncing along beside me in more ways than one, and Rem walking in front of us with a almost visible or of malice above her head, it doesn't take a genius to figure out she is still mad about this morning, instinctively i rub my cheek, surprised at how strong someone so little can actually slap.
"Rem, are you still mad about this morning?" I asked in the still unfamiliar voice of diablo.
"I'm not mad, please drop the subject" she says in an almost flat monotone voice.
"you're totally still mad" Shera says quietly, obviously not expecting Rem to hear her.
Rem simply turn her head slightly and glare at the well-endowed elf, causing her to visibly shrink and duck behind me, I decide it's best not to bother her again until she's calm down, as we continue to make our way down the busy street, I can't help but look around that all of the different people and signs, however despite the amount of people, that are on the street mingling with each other, I have yet to see any other humans other than those drunk idiots last night, another thing that surprised me is that most of the signs appeared to be in completely different languages, considering how few of the signs I can actually read.
as make our way past a large fruit stand, with a large group of people huddled around it, I can't help but find the lack of any other humans slightly eerie, I could see almost every imaginable fantasy creature Dwarves, Elves, Grasswalkers, Pantherians and even a few demons here and there, but yet most humans anyway, considering the lack of knowledge, I'm I think it's best to ask my companions about the lack of humans.
"I don't see any humans here, why is that exactly?" I asked both of them, causing them to look at me with a strange look for a second before realisation cross as both of their faces.
"Humans aren't the most common race anymore, so they prefer to stay segregated from the rest of us" Ren answer first in a nonchalant manner.
"Yeah, there was some giant cataclysm a couple of centuries ago, with many races either going extinct or being pushed to new extension, humans were the race that suffered the most from this cataclysm, I believe they still haven't quite recovered, even after all this time" Shera added, as she continued to happily bounce along beside me.
now that's certainly something to take in, but looking at it with that piece of information, a lot of things I have seen here, began to make sense, from the outright prejudice that humans had towards demi-humans to the low amount of humans in general, humans were the most popular class in game, but I guess this world only has surface-level similarities to cross revived so my knowledge of the game probably isn't going to help me that much, I thought to myself, as I continue mull over the information that my two companions had given me, another the fact that everyone here was such a low level, was now a bit less surprising as well, since I originally expected the world ran exclusively using the rules of the game, I found it odd that everyone here with such low level, but knowing what I know now, everyone's level being low by comparison to mine, doesn't actually seem to be that surprising now, that also has the implication that the magic system of this world is different as well, meaning that replication of Spells from this world might be extremely difficult if not impossible, I decided to ask another question, despite already knowing the answer, I decided it was better to ask anyway just to be sure.
"Does this world measure strength with the concept of levels?" I asked.
"Y-Yeah by levels..." Shera said looking away nervously as she did so, I can't help but look at her raised eyebrow after that.
"Though I don't have mine yet" She continued, still looking away from me.
"I'm a level 40 Summoner, the Adventurers Guild we're heading to has a means of measuring your level" Rem said, causing me to let out an audible "oh" level 40 in Cross Revived, was a pretty decent level for a player, at that level you could start learning complex spells, and would gain access rare quality equipment, unfortunately though being able to judge Rem's level accurately using my knowledge of the game, would be difficult considering I haven't seen her fight yet, but considering that most people I've seen so far seem to be about level 15 to 20, meant that she most likely could at least hold her own in a fight, against most people.
"Oh, yeah, that's the reason I don't have a level, is because I haven't registered as an adventurer yet, so I could be 40 or 50 when they measure me!" Shera said excitedly, seemingly bouncing back from how she was acting a moment ago.
"It must be at least 10 below average" Rem said matter of flatly, causing shear look at her with a pout, they done started one of their common bickering matches, meanwhile I'm still trying to piece together, the puzzle that is this place, it doesn't help that I'm still missing at least 90% of the pieces, in the game this entire area including the city, would have been about level 60 to level 70, meaning that it would have been populated by higher level players and NPCs, but of course since this world only has a superficial resemblance to the game it appears that the average level of this area is more along the lines of 15 to 20, which means that I stand out like a sore thumb being a level 150 player, but that's still begs the question, how's my level been adjusted to fit within the parameters of this world, or is my body still playing by the rules of Cross Revived, I find the first option unlikely, considering I was able to easily annihilate that wizards level 30 salamander last night, which means that even if my level has been altered, I'm still at least more powerful than everyone in the immediate vicinity, and wider area from the looks of it, however I think it's more likely that, my character is still operating by the game rules, meaning that I most likely I'm still at level 150.
"Once we've registered with the Adventurers Guild, we'll be able to accept quests" Rem said, knocking me out of my inner thoughts, I look to Shera bouncing along with that spring in her step, I guess they must have finished that argument while I was deep in thought, I look back to Rem, to to see that she has something else to say.
"Once registered, both of you will be earning your lodgings from now on" she says, turning her attention back to the road, I only now noticed that instead of the street being flanked by buildings on each side, it's now more grassland with the occasional building scattered here and there, I then noticed the large Gate, we are approaching, behind this gate is what appears to be some kind of almost European style mansion, looking at the sign on the gate, I'm surprised I can actually read it and it does indeed say Adventurers Guild, not the kind of building I would imagine as an Adventurers Guild but I guess this world is full of surprises, as we make our way past the gate and towards the door, of the large building, I begin to hear something that sounds kind of bar fight, as Rem opens the door my suspicions are confirmed, two dwarfs are currently in the process of beating the absolute crap out of each other, with people all around them egging them on, I can feel my nerves beginning to get the better of me noticing my hand we can just shake, I can't remember the last time I seen two people fight in real life, hell I can't even remember the last time, I've been in the same room with this many people, trying to not let my persona of a all-powerful demon lord snip, I hide my shaking hand inside my clock.
"I know it's a bit obnoxious, but this happens all the time, you'll get used to it eventually" she said matter of flatly, as she began to make her way and aged set of oak stairs, she suddenly stopped and looked at me and Shera.
"Come on, We register as adventurers on the second floor" Rem said, as me and Shera quickly made our way up the stairs after her, passing by a suspicious looking man with a hood covering his face, which set of many alarm bells in my head as I passed him, we finally reach the second floor making my way into a large room with a desk at one end, behind the desk is three incredibly cute and nearly identical Pantherians girls, Shera is the first of us to go, as she starts filling out the form, as I take one to examine, despite not being in Japanese I can surprisingly actually understand it, from the looks of it might be some kind of European style language touching from the characters, but as I'm about to reach for a quill, I realise that despite being able to understand, I still have absolutely no idea how to write the language, meaning that I can't do this by myself, I start to feel a bit of panic as my hand begins to shake again, how am I going to become an adventurer and get these two girls three, if I can't even write the bloody language, I quickly decide it's best to keep up my demon lord persona and demand Shera to fill it out for me.
"Listen, I dislike such tedious work, fill this out for me" I save as much fake apathy as I can manage.
"I can?!" Shera exclaimed excitedly, surprising me, as I thought she wouldn't want to fill out someone else's form.
"Yes" I respond simply, as she excitedly takes the form from my hand, her massive breasts almost knocking into me and the process, causing me to step back slightly, seriously I'm beginning to think that she can actually use those things of weapons.
"Yay! It's kind of like I'm the master now!" she shouts, as she begins to fill out the form at lightning pace, as she is filling up the form, I suddenly feel this strange tingling sensation back of my head, as well as when I could have sworn with someone whispering something or maybe talking quietly, I discreetly look around the room, finding that it's just me, Shera and Rem, and the three identical Pantherians girls in the room, at first I think it might have been the bar fight downstairs, but then I realised that the sounds of the bar fight, had long ago been silenced, plus this whisper didn't sound like the muffled sounds of drunk and fighting, it's hard to describe, It sounded like a ghostly voice from the past, ghosts are subject that I never believed in myself, but considering this is a fantasy world, it's very possible they might exist here, I finally turn my whole body to look at the door, finding it slowly swinging on its hinges, I feel the tingling in the back of my head getting stronger as I look at the door, just as I'm about to act on my urge to walk towards the door I feel someone poke me on the shoulder or more or less try to considering how short they were, I turn around and look down at Rem, who's looking at me with a look of confusion, I was about to say something when she simply pointed at Shera, who seemed to be about done filling out my form, after a couple seconds Shera exclaimed happily she's finished, handing the form to the Pantherian girl in the blue outfit, she then places a small letter open up on the desk along with the form.
"Now then, to finish, please place your blood seal here" she says with a nervous cheetah in her voice, as soon as I hear the word "blood", I feel my body going rigid, it wasn't the blood that scared me per se, it was more the fact that I had to cut myself, to get the blood come out.
"It's fine, just a prick and it's done" Rem said flatly, almost like she had read my mind and so exactly what I was thinking, considering the amount of times she's done that, since I've come to this place and beginning to think she might have some kind of psychic power.
"I don't like this..." Shera says nervously, making it obvious I wasn't the only one who wasn't looking forward to cutting themselves, but being a demon Lord, means that I have to actor from strong, so making up my mind, I decided it's best I go first to keep up my image as a demon Lord who's not afraid of anything.
"Hmph. You'll never succeed as an adventurer, if you back down something so simple as a little paper cut" I say, somehow managing to project the air of someone, who's a lot more confident then I am, I pick up the letter opener, seeing the reflection of Diablo's blood red eyes in the blade, with one final push, I quickly slide the letter opener over my thumb, expecting a small trickle of blood, but I guess luck wasn't on my side, because instead of a small trickle, a absolute torrential downpour of blood comes shooting out of my thumb, panicking I do the only thing I can think of and that's slam my thumb down onto the form, soaking it almost completely with blood, as well as covering the majority of the desk, after using a minor healing spell to stop the fire hydrant of blood, the blue outfitid Pantherian girl, leads us over to a strange looking mirror that doesn't have a reflection, instead its surface was completely black, it gave me an earring feeling almost like I was staring into the heart of a black hole or something equally cosmic.
"What's this?" Shera says asking the question I desperately wanted to ask.
"This is a mirror, that measures the strength of the Magical power" the Pantherian girl says as we stand in front of the mirror, she gesture Shera to put her hand on the mirror, Shera for her part does nervously put her hand on the mirror, she seems to concentrate for a second before a perfect image of her appears in the mirror, instead of a full reflection, it only goes from the top of her head down to just below her chest.
"Wow! that's incredible, the image is clear enough to count all of your eyelashes and goes all the way down to your chest, so you're level must be..." the blue outfitid Pantherian girl, trails off as she flips through a large leatherback book, seemingly trying to add up the numbers in the head, Shera is practically exploding of excitement, despite still having her hand on the mirror, she's basically jumping around and excitement asking what level she is saying that she knows it's going to be high.
"Congratulations, your level is 30!" the Pantherian girl says excitedly, as she continues to examine the book.
"No way! that's so lame that's, I lost to Rem" Shera says dejectedly, her large pointy ears drooping significantly, I can't help but feel slightly sorry for her.
"You were overreaching if you thought you would surpass me" Rem says Flatley, with just the tiniest bit of smugness creeping into her voice, that seemingly twisted the metaphorical knife in deeper, causing Shera to look at Rem with a pout.
"I'll surpass you in no time Rem. just you wait!" Shera shouts, as the two of them descending to another bickering match, the only thing I'm paying attention to at this point is her level, despite Shera not liking the fact that she's only level 30, level 30 seems to still be a pretty decent level even in this world, she's about 10 levels above the surrounding area, which means that, even in a fight, she would be able to hold her own against pretty much everyone else around here, however before I can think about is any further I noticed the blue outfitted Pantherian girl, gesturing for the next person, since Rem and Shera, are still currently trying to verbally tear each other's throats out, I guess that means I'm next, as I stepped in front of the mirror looking into its black void, I can't help but realise that I don't quite know how to focus my Magical energy into the mirror, I decided to just go with the flow as I reach out to touch the mirror, as my hand contacts the mirror, the entire world around me suddenly turns black, I look around only to see an endless black void all around me, however something catches my attention far off in the distance, squinting my eyes I can just about make out the figure of a person, that seems to be dressed very strangely by comparison to everyone else I've seen in this world, I begin to move towards them, as I get closer I can see that they appear to be frozen in the process of running, suddenly it clicks in my head, this mysterious person looks practically identical to one of the people I saw In my vision, before I woke up here, as I get close enough to examine them I can see that they appear to be male, dressed in what I can only describe as a cowboy/Western outfit with belt wrapped around his body and various pieces of equipment hanging from said belts, and to top it all off, was a large animal skin hat adorning his head, but due to the angle that he appears to be frozen in, the hat is obscuring his face, I suddenly feel a strange urge to reach out to this person, I slowly raise my arm and reach out, but just as I'm about to make contact, I hear a voice calling Diablo's name, suddenly the black void shutters around me, bringing me back to the second floor of the Adventurers Guild building, I quickly look around everyone in the room. to realise that they were all in various states of fear and surprise, I turn back to the mirror only to find that it's completely shattered, with its pieces laying on the ground, as I continue to look at the pieces of the mirror in astonishment, I suddenly hear someone running into the room, turning around towards the door I see another person that has into the room.
"What the hell was that just now!" she shouts, I finally got a good look at the new person in the room and my surprise it's another girl, and honestly what I'm presented with is pretty hard to describe, she's short, remarkably short in fact, I would say barely if over 4 feet tall, judging from how her body looks, she looks like she could barely even be a teenager, her hair is a tuft of intentionally messy but well-kept pink hair, with two large rabbit ears poking out the top of her head, her outfit is certainly the part that is throwing me off the most, it looks more like some kind of strange and fetish swimsuit rather than any kind of normal outfit, the first thing that comes to mind looking at it is some kind of weird loincloth.
"Guild Master U-Uh..." the blue outfitid Pantherian girl stutters, I can't help but look at this new girl even harder with surprise, out of all of the people I've seen in this world, she is the last person I would have expected to be a Guild Master of all things, hell she barely even looks like she's out of school yet.
"Oh! where are my manners, I'm Sylvie, Guild Master of the Adventurers Guild here in Faltra" she says her surprised and slightly on guard expression, changing to that of a much more pleasant little smile, I turn my head away from her for a second, she obviously must have realised I was looking at her intently.
"Do you all have a moment to spare? I'd like to talk to you and my office" she says, I turn my head to to look at her again, giving her a nod of approval as I do, she quickly turns on the spot, beginning to make her way out of the room, I follow behind her as I hear two other sets of footsteps behind me, most likely Rem and Shera following after me, across the threshold into the hallway, I suddenly hear that whisper again, but slightly louder this time and coming from the same direction that Sylvie is walking, I shake my head discreetly, continue after her towards what I can assume is her office.
