I pull up to the crime scene. I am handed a yellow helmet; we are in downtown Sacramento at a construction site. I feel a tap on my shoulder I turn and see Jane standing behind me. "This is new" we make are way to the body I was at my 35-week appointment, so I am not dressed for a crime scene like this. Jane has help me keep my balance I am feeling very top heavy. I see the body. It is a blond man he is short but fit.
"Do we have a ID?" I ask
"Garry Lark, 33, he works here. Workers found him when coming back from lunch. He stayed behind." Rigsby tells me.
"Any family?"
"He has a wife we have called her."
"He was meeting a lover." Jane says all of the sudden.
"Ok?" I say.
"Why would a man in his 30's who is a clearly a 'Bro' stays behind and does not go out for lunch with his buddies. Cho what was in his pockets?"
"A wallet house keys and some lint." Cho tells Jane.
"How much cash did he have?"
"About 100 dollars"
"Why would I guy like this carry around this much cash, he was going out to eat with a lover"
"Or maybe he likes to carry around cash or he was not hungry or he was buying drugs." I tell Jane
"Find the lover find the killer." Jane tells me
"Cho tell forensics they can take the body. Where is Van Pelt?" I tell the team.
"Traffic."
"Jane you're with me let's talk to the friends." he shrugs. I make my way over to the man who found the body. He takes a look at me and I can see he is not going to take me seriously. I wish he knew that I could knock him out easily. "My name is Terresa Lisbon, this is Patrick Jane. Are you Mathew Grean?" I ask
"Well Terresa yes I am." He says. He is bugging me.
"Agent" I say correcting him.
"Agent Terresa"
"Agent Lisbon I am a state agent."
"Yes ma'am you have a bite don't you" he is flirting with me. Is he blind? Does he not see my huge bump.
"I am pregnant." I say trying the line that shuts most men up though I have not had to use it in months. He seems unfazed. "With twins." Nothing.
"I don't mind." He says I am shocked. I am about to tell him that he will be interviewing with Cho when he continues. "Agent" he says while stepping towards me. Then he tries to unbutton and look down my shirt. I swing this arm behind his back I have in cuffs in a matter of seconds. I state his rights. God he is a creep. I get in the car Jane is driving. We drive back to the office I tell them to put him in room 2. I take off my coat and get my file. I think I am going to enjoy this. I walk in slamming the file down.
"Mathew"
"Yes agent." He says in a way that makes me feel sick.
"I don't suggest you processed in this manner."
"You know you want this." God this man disgusts me.
"No. No I don't. I like people who ask for consent and have respect." I snap back. "Tell me about Garry."
"This is not about him this is about you and me."
"Keep this up and I will have you charged with obstruction of justice and harassment. I might throw some battery charges in there. Tell me about Garry." I think I finally got threw to him.
"Fine babe. Garry was a cool guy. He was a sharp shooter. Followed the rules. That was always stupid. He was a hypocrite, always getting on us guys about flirting with girls even though we have a girlfriend. He had a girl on the side. He was meeting her that lunch." Finally.
"That's all I need."
"So I can go?" he wishes.
"No I am charging you with harassment"
"Bitch." He says as I leave the room. I see Hightower as I leave the room she walks out the other side she was watching.
"Well done." She says. It feels good.
"Thanks he irks me."
"Yep there are creeps in this world nothing proves that more then this job." That is true. It scares me a bit. That reminds me I look at the rapist number of victims. I see the number 30 flash across the screen god this is getting bad. The rest of the team gets back to the office. I ask Cho and Rigsby if they got anything from the family.
"No same story." I know the story they are talking about. There family member was perfect they did not deserve to die. They do not know who could have done this. We get the same story 50% of the time. Jane is asleep on the sofa. I go and kick him
"I am going to try and find the lover you coming?"
"How you going to do that?" little does he know.
"Is that doubt?"
"No"
"Good I have my ways" We get in the car. I have worked with Jane for a long time just this once I am going to play some mind tricks. I drive back to the scene of the crime. Me and Jane get out the car.
"What we doing?"
"Sucks not to know doesn't it." I am enjoying this.
"No I know" he is lying. We walk into a bar. I look around. When my mom died my dad went to drinking. I also know that the lover is not going to say that they are the lover. The lover has to work near by so he could meet them. His friend talked about them going to bars. So that leaves me with a waitress at a local bar. I walk into the first one and I get some strong looks as I sit down at the bar. For just a second I forgot that I am pregnant. I look at the bartender. It is a blond woman she has no makeup on but her nails are done. She looks like she was just crying. I start talking with Jane. I make up things about the investigation and when she hears Garry's name she goes white and starts to spend a lot more time listening to us.
"You where dating him who do you think did this?" I say to her out of the blue to catch her off guard.
"How did you, I was not, who are you, no." she is flusters. I see Jane is impressed. I look at her name tag.
"Lily how about we get a table and talk." I say and she agrees.
"So your cops?" she asks as we sit down.
"I am he is not." I say pointing at Jane. "How long where you with Garry?"
"About 3 months we would meet for lunch and he would come to my place in the morning."
"Where you meeting him today?"
"Yes, I got there late. When I did, he was dead."
"Why did you not call 911.''
"I don't like cops."
"And why is that?" Jane asks.
"Please don't shut down the restaurant. I am only 20 not old enough to be working the bar."
"Did Garry know your age?" I ask.
"Yes, I know I am younger than him but love knows no age."
"Well, it does. At least the law does." Jane says.
"Does his wife know?" I ask trying to get us back on track.
"No."
"Ok that will be all." I speak. Me and Jane drive back to the office. I see a look on his face.
"What?" I ask.
"I don't think she did it."
"Why not she has opportunity and motive."
"Let's talk to Mathew again." I let my dread show on my face. "It will be fun."
"Why he did not do it he has no reason."
"No offence but I don't think it would make sense for him to be flirting with you." I hit him on the side of the arm. "And he was so resistant to talk that we took what he said."
"You are saying I am a bad cop."
"No. I am saying we should talk to him." Sadly, I agree. I call Grace and tell her to look into Mathew.
"Ok you have a plan what is it?" I see the look in Janes eyes.
"He thinks he is smart. Did the autopsy report come back?"
"Yes, looks like he was killed with a hammer."
"We let him go as he is walking out, we let him over hear us talking about the hammer that we have found it. We follow him and he leads us there because he is worrying that we have found it." It should work.
I nod "tomorrow." It is late and I am going home. I go home and work out. My doctor says everything is looking good. The babies are kicking so I shower and dance to some spice girls.
I get into the office and see Jane. "Spice girls a bop last night?" he asks me. I go red and shake my head.
"Shut up let's do this I can already see the paperwork." We do and it all goes to plan. He leads us right to the weapon. I let Cho do the interview he needs some fun.
"He was a hypocrite I found out about his girlfriend when I came back to work before lunch finishes a week ago. He got all mad yesterday when I was talking about this girl I laided so I got mad. I went with the boys to get lunch but I held back just enough and killed him. He was a jerk." Mathew says. To Cho. He is a good interviewer. I spend the rest of the day doing paperwork.
