Fon didn't know Iemitsu was that kind of man. He heard from Reborn that Yona and Iemitsu had problems, but to take it this far is madness. That made Iemitsu a piece of scum in Fon's head. He'll refuse to help the CEDEF. He'll keep quiet about this for Yona's sake. However, since Kazuma knew, Fon would tell him.
"Is that so? I wasn't notified of this attack." Kazuma said with amusement.
"Do you not understand the severity of the situation? Yona is being targeted by a branch of the Vongola!"
"I'm aware and understand how you feel. I do know to stay out of her game."
"How long has Iemitsu been sending people to kill Yona?" Fon asked, knowing there was no way to change Kazuma's actions.
"You won't like the answer but he's been doing it for years. He's only here to see who's been taking his men out. I have a feeling he might turn the entire Vongola on poor Yona if he finds out she's the culprit."
"What'll you do if that happens?"
"I'll show my evidence. Plus, Yona knows of things she shouldn't know because of the dolls eavesdropping on Iemitsu. If anything happens, Yona has the ultimate protection and defense."
"Alchemy can only do so much when she's against an entire mafia family." Fon said.
"True, but Yona isn't at her full potential as an alchemist. Wouldn't you seven protect her? She is the key to your curse after all."
"I'd protect her with my life. I'm sure most of them would after they found out her role."
"If she has the dolls, herself, and the seven strongest warriors in the world, she'll be safe."
Roughly two weeks have gone by and today was the first day of school. Mama and I were excited. I'd have my first performance and start traditional schooling again. Families were encouraged to go for the entrance ceremony to watch the performances and see their child get sworn into the academy. I even invited Kazuma, Kyoya, and Fon. They were more than happy to come. Mama couldn't wait to see me perform since she's never heard me. Iemitsu was very skeptical of my abilities, but he could go suck a giant one for all I cared. I left home early and met up with Ayumu. The others wanted the two of us to go alone so we could experience the welcome.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"I'm a little nervous. What about you?"
"I'm fine. Is your family coming?"
"They are. Kazuma is bringing his family as well. Are your parents coming?"
"They are. They want to hear us perform." The two of us walked to the school. Juniors and seniors were in the school yard welcoming the new students. I saw Yukine and Sayo and they waved at us. We had to sign in.
"Welcome to the start of your new school. What are your names?" The woman in charge of signing in asked.
"Ayumu Nakamura."
"Yona Kurosawa."
"Oh! You two are the new students in Magnolia! I'll give you two a pass so you can leave to get ready when the time is right." She wrote us two notes. "Good luck. I'm the choir teacher here. I hope to hear your beautiful voices."
We walked right in and saw other students already in their seats. "Ayumu! Yona!" We turned to Aki and walked over. "I'm glad you two made it. Follow me backstage. Yona, I'll take care of your bass until the performance."
"Thanks a bunch, Aki."
"No problem." He then proceeded to tell us how things would work. Apparently, we were performing last. Ayumu and I went back to our seats and sat down.
"I'm really nervous." I admitted quietly.
"D-don't be." Ayumu said, slightly shaking.
"You're nervous too?"
"Shut up!"
"You must be Kei's little sister." We saw a guy with short blonde hair and a mischievous smirk. He was standing above us.
"What of it?"
"I never expected Kei's sister to be a tsundere. I'm Hiro. I'm the school's best drummer. What are your names?"
"You don't need to know my name." Ayumu answered coldly. He looked at me.
"It's better if my name doesn't come out of your mouth. You seem like trouble." I replied. His smirk got wider.
"You're a little cutie." He said in my ear.
"And you're making my bassist uncomfortable." We saw Kei right behind Hiro.
"Kei! My good friend. How is it?"
"If you touch either one of them, I will make your life hell." Kei threatened. I felt a threatening aura and knew it was Kazuma.
"Oh? Did someone touch my student inappropriately?" Hiro almost passed out when he saw Kazuma. He was quiet from shock. "Good. If you touch my student in any way, I can't promise you'll be safe. She is a daughter to me after all. That goes for Ayumu. She's my student's precious friend."
"I-I'll never touch them, sir!"
"Good boy." Kazuma sat down with a satisfied smirk.
"He went overboard. I'm sorry about that. Don't make me use him." I said with a smile.
"Why does the devil have such a sweet smile?" Hiro questioned as he dragged himself to his seat.
"Good going, miss sadist." Ayumu said.
"Don't call me that."
"If he bothers you again, you tell me." Kei said.
"We will."
"I'll just have Yona take care of him. She does a good job." Kei sighed and went to his seat. Yukine and Sayo walked by us and winked. I saw Mama was there with Tsuna and Iemitsu. She saw me and waved. Ayumu was looking everywhere for her parents.
"Can't find them?"
"Not yet. I wonder if they even bothered coming."
"I'm sure they'll come."
The ceremony started. Yukine's dad was up on stage and welcomed all of us new students. He then told everyone the rules to the academy. There would be jobs for students right in the industry by the time we graduate. We could either land a job as a voice actor or become a backup musician. It all sounded exciting. Then, he introduced the performances for the incoming students. Ayumu and I looked at each other and started to shake from nerves. The performances were amazing but that only distracted us so much. I saw Kei and the rest leave.
"Let's go, Ayumu." She nodded. We started walking backstage and was stopped by a teacher. We gave them the note and was allowed to pass. The students that performed before were all backstage. They stared at us. Yukine ran over.
"Don't look too nervous. They'll figure it out." She tried to comfort us.
"I can't help it. Even Ayumu is nervous."
"I am not! She's a liar." Yukine laughed and brought us over to where everyone else was. I took my bass and let out a sigh.
"Will they be alright?" Someone asked Sayo.
"They're newbies. I'm sure they'll be fine." Aki walked to us and had us go through some deep breathing. It helped me, but Ayumu was still anxious. It could be because Kei decided to have all of us sing one line in the song.
I grabbed Ayumu's hands. "Yona?"
"We'll be just fine. Just think about it. We're the only middle schoolers that'll be on that stage today. Besides, why do we have to impress them? They're our peers. If someone says anything about us messing up, I'll force them to come on stage and perform. I'll make a fool out of every single one of them." I spoke calmly. Ayumu just stared at me.
"Miss sadist is back at it again. I'll keep you up on your promise, Yona." Even I felt better after my own pep talk. The students on the stage walked backstage.
"Good luck, Magnolia. We'll be rooting for you."
"Good luck!"
"The newbies need the most luck. I hope you two kill it." We got in line.
"For our last performance, we have a treat. Two new middle schoolers have joined together with seniors and have created the band Magnolia. If you heard their name floating around it's because of the enormous support our students have for each other. The two new middle schoolers are Ayumu Nakamura and Yona Kurosawa. Welcome." Yukine's dad introduced us. We all walked out together. Everyone gave their applause. However, I saw lights in the audience. They were our colors. There were even mine and Ayumu's colors out there.
"Surprise." Sayo said in a loud whisper to me and Ayumu.
Kei looked at us and we nodded. I saw mama with a video recorder. Kei started singing with Aki's piano. There was no going back now. The rest of us came in with instruments and background vocals. My heart was pounding in a way it hasn't since the first time I played with everyone. It was mesmerizing to see the lights move in beat with the rhythm. It then came to the solos. Kei had it so it's be him, Yukine, Aki, Sayo, and then Ayumu and I at the end to showcase us. Fittingly, I got my solo when the bass came back in with a slide. With each solo, the lights turned into the color of whoever was singing. When the audience turned red, I felt so happy. When we finished, the room turned into screams and applause.
"Yeah! Yona! Ayumu!" I could hear Hina.
She was in the audience with a light in each of her hand. One had my color and the other had Ayumu's. I looked back at Ayumu and she was just in shock. I looked at everyone else and they were all smiling at us. We did it. I did it. I played and sung without a single mistake. I wasn't even nervous.
"We are Magnolia." Kei announced into the microphone. Everyone applauded and screamed for us. "That's not all." The room went dark and a large projection was put up on the wall. There was music playing from the speakers. Ayumu and I looked to see what was being shown.
It was our promotion photos. We gasped with shock. It then showed a date. "We'll be having our first official live in three months. I hope to see everyone there. This is only a little taste of what we can do." Kei said. When did we decide on the date? It must have been when I was spacing out. I should really stop that. We then walked off stage and was congratulated by the other performers.
"The newbies did so well! I'm so proud!"
"I almost cried!" Sayo hugged Ayumu and I tightly.
"You guys did it!" Yukine joined in.
"You two were great! Did you two like the surprise?"
"Which one? The lights or the live?" I asked.
"Both."
"It was a good surprise." Ayumu responded.
"I loved it. I could hear Hina yelling our names." I said happily. My heart was still beating excitedly as if I was still on stage.
"Hina is actually the one that organized everything with the students. We just told her the order of the solos." Aki said.
"Woah."
"Let's get you two back. There's a period where you can go see your families before school officially start." Ayumu and I left the stage and went outside where we were bombarded by students, new and old. They kept complimenting us and saying how they'll be at our concert. We finally broke away from them. I saw mama and ran over. Ayumu seemed to have found her parents.
"Yona!" Mama grabbed me tightly. "I never knew you were so good! You were beautiful up there."
"Thank you, mama." I saw Tsuna. He had a light in his hand that was on my color. "Where did he get that?" I asked.
"The nice girl that took our photos gave it to him." Mama said.
"Did you like the song, Tsuna?"
"I did! It was really cool! You looked like a star."
"Cute."
"Yona." Iemitsu said my name. I looked at him. "I'm sorry for doubting your skills. I underestimated how well you could actually play. You were beautiful up there."
"Thank you."
"Yona!" Hina yelled with all her might. She came barreling into me to the point that we fell onto the ground with her on top of me. "You were amazing! I want to hear an entire album of your voice or else I'm going to riot!"
"You'd have to talk to Kei about that, Hina." She giggled and helped me get up. She then handed me a small booklet. "These are all the family photos. I'll see you later. I going to barrel into Ayumu too." She ran off. I looked into the book and saw how well the photos came out. "I think you guys would want to look at these. I'm going to go see my friends. Is that okay?"
"Of course. We'll see you at home."
"Bye, Yona!" Tsuna said.
"Be good for mama, okay?"
"Okay!"
I found Kazuma next. He and the rest were in the corner waiting for me. "Not bad." He commented.
"Don't take him seriously. He was almost tearing up." Fon teased.
"I plead the fifth."
"How did I do, Kyoya?" His cheeks turned pink.
"It was alright."
"Are all Hibari this hard to please?"
"They are. I think you did a wonderful job. You should sing more. You have a beautiful voice." Fon commented with a wide smile.
"I will if Kei allows."
"If there's an album with just your voice, I want one."
"You'll be the second one to get a copy."
"Why second?"
"Mama gets one first. I thought that would have been obvious."
"I guess I can accept that."
"Yona! Over here!" Sayo yelled, waving her hand in the air.
"I'll see you guys later." I ran over to them and saw Angelo and his wife who had long black hair and gold eyes. I see where the two get their eyes now.
"Hello, dear. You played beautifully. I'm glad to know my stubborn children finally have a bassist."
"Thank you."
"I'm Rinko Nakamura. I already know who you are. My children won't shut up about you."
"Mom!" Ayumu yelled.
"The louder the reaction, the truer it is." Angelo said. She gasped and shut her mouth.
"It's okay, Ayumu. I know how you really feel about me. There's no need to hide it." I teased lightly.
"I hate you."
"You don't need to hide your feelings for me." Her cheeks turned red.
"I'm going to choke you!"
"Only one sadist is allowed in the group and Yona already filled that role." Sayo said seriously.
"Sorry, Ayumu. The tsundere role is open." Ayumu started to spasm, letting out murmurs and swears here and there. Kei looked at me.
"Run."
"Why?" That's when Ayumu ran at me.
The group watched as Ayumu angrily chased a laughing Yona. Rinko was more than delighted. "My, it's like she's an entirely different person." She said with a giggle.
"She only gets like this with Yona." Kei said.
"Get back here so I can kill you!" Ayumu yelled.
"Don't tempt me to stop, Ayumu." Yona teased. Ayumu yelled even more with frustration.
"I like her." Rinko said.
"We all do. She seems like a pushover, but that's further from the truth." Yukine said.
"Hiro already tried something and Yona scared him." Kei said.
"How so?" Angelo asked his son.
"Yona told Hiro to not make her use Kazuma with the sweetest smile and the coldest eyes."
"That girl is going places. She'll have suitors lined up for miles with that attitude."
"You think weirdly, mom."
"Your mother isn't weird. She's actually right. There are ton of men who would love to be berated every day."
"I can't imagine someone like that with Yona. She'd get annoyed too quickly. She needs someone with a strong personality that can put her in place without restricting her too much." Aki said with an analytical view.
"That sounds better. She needs a bigger sadist." Sayo said which made sense.
"You probably know some men like that, dear." Rinko said.
"I do, but they're my age."
"See if their sons are single."
"Mom, she's still twelve!"
"Shut up, Kei."
"Mom!"
"Dear, please stop."
"You too, Angelo. Shut up."
"Dear."
"I don't want to hear it from either of you."
By the end of the week, Iemitsu had left back to work. His 'vacation' was finally over. Fon had to leave as well, but he knew I'm well protected. Mama was still riding the high of my performance. She even told Iemitsu to send it to his father. When Magnolia would practice, we'd use one of the music rooms in the school or go to the live house together. It was refreshing and nice to walk with all of them.
The attacks had died down to where there were none in an entire month. School itself was fun and I was doing just fine in tests and studying. I didn't really make any new friends, but everyone was kind to me and that's all I could ever ask for. No one glared at me with disgust or contempt. I even had a bass instructor that helped me with correcting my form and techniques. He was astonished to know I was self-taught and was more welcoming to me.
One day, I went to check the mail and found a box for me. I opened it in my room and saw it was books of research from Fon's friend. It smelt weird, but that was from the person. They must have purposely put their flame on the book so I could get used to it. Fon had to have told them. I put them away for now. I'll look at them later. For now, I need to get ready for the upcoming concert. Kei put me in charge of finalizing the scores for the two new songs. I had to concentrate on one thing at a time.
When Iemitsu went back to Italy, he met up with Nono. "Welcome back. How was the family?"
"They were well."
"Did you get into any more fights with Yona?"
"Surprisingly, we didn't fight that much." Iemitsu didn't want to tell him about the attacks on the house.
"Wonderful. That's one step in the right direction."
"Yona actually had a concert recently. Nana was so persistent on showing you."
"What kind of concert?" Nono asked.
"She's in a band as the bassist. She's actually really good. I didn't know she could have improved that much being self-taught." Iemitsu pulled out the video. Nono took it and stood up.
"I want to watch this on the big screen."
"You're not serious, right?" Nono gave a big smile.
"She's my granddaughter. I want to see her play." Nono went into the conference room that had the largest screen. He had gotten his guardians and some maids in to watch. Reborn and Dino were coincidentally there too.
"What are we going to watch?" Reborn asked.
"Yona's performance." Nono said excitedly.
"Performance? Who's Yona?" Dino questioned.
"Yona is my step-daughter who plays the bass in a band."
"Really? Is she good?"
"You'll have to see."
Nono put the tape in and played it. "Which one is she?" Dino asked.
"She's the one with the bass, idiot." Reborn replied.
"Which one is that?"
"The red one." Nono said. He knew since he was the one that bought it for her.
"Why does she go by Kurosawa?" Dino asked the obvious question everyone but Nono and Reborn had.
"She wanted to keep her mother's maiden name."
Yona looked so nervous. They all kept their eyes on Yona herself. When she started playing, all the nervous energy was gone. She was good under pressure. Reborn liked how calm and collected she looked. She'd be a good hitman. The part where the solos came on. When Yona sang, Nono was pleasantly surprised. Even Reborn was not expecting that deep, soft voice.
"And she's twelve?" One of Nono's guardians asked.
"Yes. She'll be turning thirteen in April." Dino took that information in. Reborn noticed and kicked him. He quietly seethed in pain. When the performance was over, everyone could hear the cheering.
"She looks surprised."
"This is actually her first performance." That's when the promotion pictures started showing.
"They're already going to have a concert?" Nono questioned.
"Yeah. It should be two months from now."
"The picture they have of her is beautiful. I want a copy, Iemitsu." Nono said.
"I'll try to get one."
"I don't want you to try. I want you to do it. She's my granddaughter and I will have pictures of her on hand to show everyone."
