Reborn liked that Nono thought of Yona as his blood relative. It was something he respected. He almost couldn't wait to train Tsuna just to see Yona on stage. If the performance on video made him feel giddy, then the feeling would be unexplainable live. However, he still had a good five years.
"Hey, Iemitsu, did you ever do a DNA test on her? She looks like you."
"She isn't mine. I was with Nana when Yona was about three."
"You never know." Reborn didn't think it was possible. Sure, Yona had some characteristics from Iemitsu, but she could have gotten that from any man. Nana could just have a type. "Let's go, Dino. You still have more training." Dino didn't have much of a choice but to follow his tutor.
"Hey, Reborn, could Yona be in line to run the Vongola?"
"That's not possible. She isn't related by blood."
"Then, what about running CEDEF?"
"She'd refuse right away. You see, Dino, Yona and Iemitsu can't stand each other."
"Really?"
"They hate each other which is why she refuses to use his last name."
"Iemitsu isn't a bad guy though."
"He rushed his relationship and marriage and didn't get to know Yona. To her, he stole her mom away from her. They never got along and Iemitsu doesn't like her because she looks like her grandmother."
"That's not fair to Yona at all."
"It isn't. It's all Iemitsu's fault for their relationship."
"I hope they can get along in the future."
After another month, I was able to get through half of a book that was sent to me by Fon's associate. It was a big help. In order to be able to quietly read and dissect the material, the dolls made me a room to read in which seemed to be in another dimension. When I asked about it, Elf just said it was a space within our dimension that only alchemists could use and enter. I could even keep an eye on the house through a security system I made.
The material in the book helped me advance further towards helping Tsuna. I was able to keep a prisoner alive for a little over two days which was a new record. Before that, I'd be able to keep someone alive for three hours. I was getting a lot more comfortable dealing with flames. I was almost ready to work on Tsuna little by little.
Another month passed and soon it was the day before the concert. Mama and Tsuna had tickets to go. Tsuna still had the light Hina gave him from our first performance. At school, everyone surrounded Ayumu and I. They kept asking if we were nervous and what songs we'd be playing. Kei told us to keep quiet about everyone, so we just told them to wait and see. Our teachers even wished us good luck. Some were even going to go to show support, but I'm sure we'll be critiqued the next time we're in their class.
After school, we all rushed to the live house. Karin agreed for us to use the stage in the building's basement as our venue. She wouldn't even charge us at all since we're her loyal customers. Inside, I saw tables lined with different merchandise. I looked at Ayumu as she was placing some more things down.
"How the hell did they get things like this ready so quickly?"
"It's what happens when Kei goes all out. He contacted everyone he knew that could help. Most of them were his classmates."
"Everyone really does go all out to help each other at school." I mused.
"Not really. Every little thing they do is something to put on their resume for when they go apply for an internship."
"I see." Taking a closer look at the table, there were even shirts with our logo on them.
"Aki ordered them the day we were set on the logo." Ayumu said as if she knew what I was thinking. "You need to pay more attention, Yona."
"I'm sorry. All the business talk makes my head spin."
"You'll need to get used to it."
"I'll try."
We walked downstairs and saw the rest of the band with Karin on stage. They were getting ready for tomorrow. "Go on up the stage for the sound check so I can take a picture." Karin said. Aki then threw us each a shirt.
"Change into this and let's get started."
After we changed, we got up on stage to our designated spots. I brought my bass up and plugged it into the amp. We went through most of our songs without the vocals and then added vocals the second time we ran through things. Everything went smoothly. "Good solo, Yona. Those private lessons are really coming in hand." Kei complimented me.
"Thanks!"
"Alright, now gather together." Karin said with a camera. We walked to the front of the stage. Karin took a picture of us. "Perfect! I can't wait to see the show tomorrow. You guys can keep your instruments here. I'll lock the basement up so nothing happens."
"Thank you." We all shouted to her. If it wasn't for her, this wouldn't have happened.
When I got home, I could hear laughter coming from the house. It really stunk and it wasn't Iemitsu. I walked in and saw mama in the living room with a lot of old men. What the hell? Tsuna sat next to mama watching cartoons. She looked at me and brightened up.
"Come here, sweetie. Your grandpa and his friends are here visiting." I took my shoes off and walked to the living room. Why the hell was Iemitsu's dad here with friends?
"Welcome home, dear. How was school?" Grandpa asked.
"It was good. Why are you here?"
"I'm here to watch your concert of course. I even brought my friends. We all saw your performance at the school from your mother."
"Word travels fast." I commented.
"It sure does. Yona, can you go make some more tea?" Mama asked.
"Sure. Do you want to help me, Tsuna?" He looked at me from the cartoon.
"Okay." He followed me to the kitchen. When we were out of sight, a small hexagonal screen appeared right above Tsuna's forehead. The seal wasn't touched. It was the same as the last time I saw it. Good. I then put the water on to boil.
"The tea is in the lower cupboard." Tsuna walked over and got it. "I'll do the rest from here. I know how much you like your cartoons."
Tsuna smiled before running back to the living room. Once the water boiled, I put it in the tea pot with the tea leaves. Were they actually here to watch the concert? Grandpa smelt like Iemitsu which meant they both saw each other recently. Nothing was making sense. I walked back out with the pot of tea.
"Thank you, Yona. How did the sound check go?" Mama asked.
"It went well. We're ready for tomorrow. Sayo and Kei are really good at spreading the word. There's going to be a lot of people."
"Are you nervous?" Grandpa asked.
"Not really. I'm more excited than anything. I know everything will go smoothly."
"What if you mess up?" One of the men asked.
"That won't happen. I believe in my skills."
"You should probably get something to eat and then get straight to bed. You have a long day tomorrow." Mama said.
"That sounds like a plan. From school to hours of setting up, I'm exhausted." I went into the kitchen and found a plate of already wrapped up food. I quickly heated it up and ate it while I listened to the conversation. When I was done, I took a well-deserved shower and then went to my room. The four dolls were waiting for me. "Why are they here?" I asked.
"He's actually here for the concert." Aya said.
"Really?"
"We were a little surprised too. He's just a loving grandfather who is proud of his granddaughter."
"I guess Iemitsu is the only crooked one. So, what's the plan for tomorrow?"
"I'll go with Tsuna." Elf said.
"And I'll be with you." Aya said with a curtsey.
"Good. Alter, Freya, I'm counting on you two to keep everything here under control." They nodded. I changed into my pajamas and sat on the bed with a sigh. "Tomorrow is another day."
"Good night, master. May your dreams be filled with happiness."
The next day, I woke up early and ran downstairs. Grandpa and his friends were in the living room watching the morning news. Mama was making breakfast. "Good morning, Yona. Would you like to help me?" Mama asked.
"Sure. I'll make the coffee and get the sides ready." I put the water on for coffee and went into the fridge to get side dishes from the fridge. I put everything on the table as the rice maker went off. I scooped everyone a bowl of rice and then ladled miso soup in another bowl just as the water was done boiling. I made instant coffee for everyone and put juice in a cup for Tsuna. Mama was just about done with the fish and omelets. I ran upstairs and got dressed in a skirt and Magnolia's shirt. Tsuna woke up and ran down to the kitchen with the light stick in his hand. He was already pumped for the concert. Everyone was at the table. "Turn that off, Tsuna. You'll run out of batteries." I scolded.
"That can happen?"
"Of course." He turned it off and sat at the table.
"Will you be running off after breakfast?" Grandpa asked me.
"I will. Kei wants everyone there first thing to go over everything that'll happen. Yukine's dad is throwing us a party after. He said our families are invited."
"Where is it?" Mama asked.
"It's at this fancy place. He booked the entire building."
"That must have cost a lot." Mama commented.
"It's not a lot when you're rich."
"Do all of your friends have money?" One of the men asked.
"Yeah. I'm the odd man out in terms of class, but they don't treat me any differently."
I finished my meal and put the dishes in the sink. "Be safe. It's at noon, right?" Mama asked.
"That's correct." I said as I put my shoes on. "I'll see everyone there. Don't be late. There might not be enough room where the stage actually is." I ran out with my bag where Aya stayed, ready for any attacks that might happen. On my way to the live house, I ran into Fon. He jumped onto my shoulders. "What are you doing here? Don't you have training in China or something?"
"You're considered my student. I wanted to see your first concert. It'd be disrespectful if I didn't show."
"Iemitsu's dad is here and he brought friends."
"Really?"
"I was told they're really here for the concert. Only Iemitsu is the crook."
"That's good. Did you get your package?"
"I did. I'm thousands of steps closer to my goal. Everything is starting to make sense."
"I'm glad."
At the live house, I was let in by Karin. "Today is the big day. Are you nervous?" She asked.
"How can I be nervous when all I feel is excitement? I just want to go up on stage and play."
"It seems like everyone else feels the same." I went backstage and saw everyone else there. Hina was there with a crew of people with cameras.
"Morning." I said and sat next to Sayo.
"Alright! I have my dad's crew with me today. Since today is such an important day, I wanted to have a photographer for each member. We'll also be documenting everything." Hina said excitedly.
Hina's true passion really was photography. She also wanted to take a few videos of us in an interview fashion. I was up first. The background was the plain white wall. "So, Yona, how do you feel about your first concert? You're the youngest and in my opinion the cutest member."
"I can't wait to play. I'm not even nervous."
"Now, I've heard from others your little nickname is miss sadist. Why is that?"
"It's just a nickname. There's no meaning to it." I answered quickly.
"Don't listen to miss sadist. She'll stomp on you with her red heels." Sayo said in the background. I clicked my tongue.
"Have anything to say to that, miss sadist?" Hina asked.
"Don't annoy me and I won't stomp on you." I said with pure disgust.
"As your number two fan in the world, I'd be honored to be stomped on!" Hina shouted.
"Me first!" Sayo said with her hand in the air.
When I was done, Yukine massaged my tense shoulders. "You did well, Yona."
"You guys bring the worst out in me."
"Don't sweat the small stuff. Sadism is part of your character. You'll awaken a lot of boys' fetishes." Aki said as he handed me a bottle of water. My cheeks turned red.
"D-don't tell me that, Aki. I shouldn't know about that stuff."
"And yet you're blushing." He said with a sly smirk.
There was almost an hour left until the concert. I could hear a lot of people from the room. We were all changed into our costumes. Yukine put a small braid in my hair and pinned it back with the flower accessory. "Perfect."
"Thank you, Yukine."
"No problem. Now, let's put on a little makeup."
"I trust you to not make me look like a clown."
"That'd be funny, but Kei would kill me." Yukine said. After twenty minutes, Yukine was done. I looked in the mirror and let out a small noise of awe. It wasn't a lot, but it really accentuated my face. "You like it?"
"You need to teach me how to do this."
"I will! We can have a sleepover together one day."
"That sounds fun."
"Let's get lined up in the hall." Kei said to everyone. We took our instruments and walked out. Hina and her crew took pictures of us.
"Hey, Kei, do we have a hype man?" Aki asked nonchalantly.
"What? No. Why do we even need one?"
"I-I thought it'd be nice."
"In your dreams."
Aki immediately turned to me with a dead look in his eyes. "Remember, you're on stage first." He reminded me, obviously hurt over Kei's words.
"Got it. I'm here for you, Aki. We'll have a hype man at one performance in the future."
"You're a good person, Yona. You're better than Kei any day." He raised his voice to make sure Kei could hear.
We lined up and gave Karin the okay. The lights all of a sudden went off and smoke started to fill the stage. It wouldn't be Kei if it wasn't over the top and full of dramatics. Kei tapped my shoulder. I walked across the stage and heard everyone start to cheer. I got in my spot and turned towards the audience. I was shocked to see so many people. I didn't believe the basement could be this full. I could hear our names being shouted by people. Kei and Aki started playing. It was the song we played at school. We did need to hit it off with a bang after all. It was easy to pinpoint who weren't students by the lights not changing color when we had our solos. After our song, everyone cheered louder than the entire school did.
"We are Magnolia." When the cheering stopped, Kei started to speak. "We thank you all for coming. We've been giving subtle hints about everything we've done so far online. Most of you know the majority of us from previous smaller concerts. My name is Kei Nakamura. I'm the leader of this group and second guitar. Mostly everyone knows about me. I think it's time for everyone to get to know the rest of Magnolia's band members." He was going to have us speak? When was this discussed? Was this during one of those boring business meetings? "Yo! How's everyone doing today?" Yukine asked the crowd. Everyone cheered.
"My name is Yukine Akatsuki. I'm the lead guitar and baker of the group. There's nothing I love more than practicing with everyone. It's some of the best times I've had in a band. They're all good people, especially our two new members. They've really helped me fall in love with playing again and I want to thank them for that."
Before Aki could speak, some of the girls lost it and cheered so loud. "I didn't know I was so popular. My name is Aki Tachibana. I'm the pianist and fashion designer. How do you like our costumes?" Again, everyone cheered. Do I have to ask the audience a question? Kei looked at me and smiled. I know he's telling me to not worry, but it isn't really helping. What would have helped was some notice. "I'm glad. Everyone had a little part in the making of the designs. You can thank our bassist for our head accessories."
"I love you, Yona!" I heard Hina shriek. Sayo hit her drums before standing.
"I'm everyone's favorite half American Sayo Kazanari! I'm Magnolia's energetic drummer and the one that keeps everything lively! I want everyone to have a good time out there. I wanna see so many smiles and hear cheering like I've never heard before. Got it?" The audience reacted just as positively as Sayo.
"My name is Ayumu Nakamura. I'm the DJ and also the younger sister of Kei. It was natural for me to join since my skills are up to my brother's standards. My mixes will shake your entire core!" That was more than a little out of character for Ayumu. I'll tease her about it later. Lastly, it was finally me. Everyone had their eyes on me.
"Go, Yona." Yukine whispered away from the microphone.
"My name is Yona Kurosawa. I'm the bassist and youngest member of Magnolia. Unlike everyone else, I didn't have a background in music. I'm actually self-taught and worked for hours on end until my fingers were numb. I've already learned so much from the rest of the band in the time I've been with them. I'll do my best to give my all with every performance."
Everyone cheered for me loudly. I could hear people from school shouting my name. "Stomp on me!" Hina shouted. I had to remain calm even if I wanted to pout and tell her to shut up.
"Why don't you give the honors of introducing our next song, Yona." Kei said. I nodded with a bright smile.
"The next song is one I helped arrange and write. Don't be too surprised when your heart beats rapidly to our extreme synchronicity." I didn't know where this courage came from. I internally cringed. I was out of character like Ayumu. It's probably from the adrenaline rush of all the cheering. After the song, I felt my hands start to shake. The audience had the same effect. I'm glad it wasn't just me. In total, we performed six songs. It was called a mini live for nothing. We got off the stage and went backstage.
"We did it!" Sayo shouted and hugged all of us at once.
"We really did." I said with small happy tears.
"Why are you crying?" Yukine asked.
"I'm just so happy we did it. Everyone worked really hard." Aki started to pet the top of my head.
"You did well, Yona. Everyone did exceptionally well." Kei said.
"It's only natural. We're Magnolia." Ayumu said with a small sniffle.
"You too?" Kei questioned.
"Shut up!"
"Ayumu." I hugged her and kept crying.
"Alright! Let's get dressed in regular clothing. I'm hungry." Yukine said.
Nana was antsy at the concert. It hadn't started yet, so it was especially nerve wrecking and Yona wasn't even playing. "Are you nervous for Yona?" Nono asked.
"I am. She's never gotten stage fright but this is a big deal."
"I'm sure she'll be just fine." Tsuna was too busy staring at the stage. Kazuma, Kyoya, and Fon were there with their own lights.
"I'm surprised you'd find interest in this." Fon commented.
"It's for Yona. Yona looks happier with an abundance of red lights." Kazuma replied.
"Really? You should have invited all the maids."
"I did. They're upstairs."
"Oh my."
"When word got out, they kept gossiping about it for weeks."
The lights then went out. It was about time the concert started. Yona was the first one out. Nana's eyes widened and she put her hands to her mouth. That was her baby girl. Even Nono was shocked to see his granddaughter. All of their outfits looked absolutely magnificent, but Yona looked mature and seemed to sparkle. Even when she played, she looked so confident and cool. Nana looked at everyone around her and saw red lights and started to tear up. Yona had so many fans. It was evident when Yona spoke. So many people cheered for her.
After the concert, the six of us met up with our parents in the main lobby. Karin was there as well. Tsuna ran to me and hugged me. "Did you like the concert, Tsuna?"
"You were so cool!"
"I'm glad you thought so."
"Are you kids ready to go?" Aki's dad asked us.
"We're starving and Yona was almost ready to attack because of not getting a snack before the concert." Aki said.
"I wasn't going to attack, Aki. I was just planning on how to attack you." Karin handed me a granola bar.
"I came prepared."
"You're the best, Karin! This is why I love your live house."
"You all did so well. I haven't had that huge of a concert here in years. It warmed my heart to see so many people here. You all deserve a feast and a good night's sleep. Have fun."
"Will you be alright cleaning everything up by yourself? We can stay and help." Kei offered.
"I'll be just fine. Some of your classmates are already going to help."
"They're really reliable. Can we go now? This granola bar isn't going to hold me for long." I spoke with haste. Ayumu pinched my cheeks. "Ayumu!"
"Punishment!" I pinched her cheeks in retaliation.
"Don't pinch my cheeks!" She cried out.
"Is this normal?" Grandpa asked.
"This happens all the time. Yona is just hungry and Ayumu is tired. They feed off their irritation and take it out on each other." Angelo answered.
"Well, let's go before the girls end up tearing their faces."
