The reception Anglo and Rinko set up for us was amazing. There was so much food everywhere. My plate was piled high with a little bit of everything. It doesn't sound like a lot, but considering there were three long tables full of food, it seemed a little intimidating picking which things to eat. Ayumu would usually look at me with disgust, but she had about the same amount of food. From the corner of my eye, I saw Angelo and grandpa talking. Angelo looked uncomfortable. It was the first time I could smell him too. It was strong, almost familiar to what I smelt when Iemitsu was around. Though the smell itself was different, the intensity was similar. Did Angelo somehow know grandpa? Rinko walked over to them, making Angelo instantly relax. I could smell her too. She had a flame, but it wasn't as strong as Angelo's.
"Yona." I turned to Yukine and she pointed. I looked and saw mama with Aki's dad.
"Bastard." Mama looked extremely uncomfortable and he was getting closer. I was handed a plastic water bottle filled with water.
"Use this." Aki said.
"You're fine with me hurting your dad?"
"Go for it."
"Aye, sir!" I stood up and took aim. I took a deep breath before throwing it. The bottle landed in the middle of his head.
"Head shot!" Sayo exclaimed. Aki's dad looked around and saw me with a triumphant smirk. Angelo walked over to him and dragged him away. Mama gave me a bright smile. Rinko walked over with the bottle.
"Nice aim."
"Thank you."
"Ryoma never knows when to stop. I'll make sure Angelo beats it into him to stop making your mother uncomfortable."
"Hey, Yona, why is your mom uncomfortable with men?" Kei asked me.
"My sperm donor wasn't the kindest person."
"Were you hurt?" Aki asked.
"I was hurt more than I should have been. I don't really remember his face, but I remember what he did." Everyone suddenly got serious to the point that it made me uncomfortable.
"No wonder you can read everyone's body language." Kei said.
"Is he in jail?" Sayo asked.
"He just disappeared one day. He's probably dead."
"If he ever shows up, give him a piece of your mind and then give him to Kazuma." Yukine said.
"I definitely will." I knew he was dead. It happened the day after I told grandma what he's been doing. She used alchemy to get rid of him, but no one needed to know that little detail. An hour later, mama walked over with a sleepy Tsuna.
"I'm going to head home before your brother sleeps."
"Do you want me to go with you?" I asked.
"That's alright. Grandpa's friends are going to bring me home."
"What about him?"
"He's going to stay until you're ready to come home."
"Okay."
Grandpa's friends didn't seem weird even though they stunk. However, Tsuna still had Elf with him. One touch and they'll die. Hopefully, nothing like that will happen. The six of us played games and had fun. Rinko even taught us how to gamble much to the dismay of the other parents. Though, Rinko is a very dominant person. She gets her way most of the time.
At the end of the night, we all went our separate ways. Grandpa and I walked back home. "I'm happy you get along so well with your friends." He said.
"They're actually my first friends. I never got along with anyone in elementary and I was homeschooled for years until now. They were the best thing that's ever happened to me in a long time."
"I'm glad. It's hard to find good quality friends. I must say, you played beautifully up there. Your mother almost cried watching." I let out an embarrassed laugh.
"I didn't mean to make her cry."
"You looked like a shining star the entire time. I'm surprised she didn't cry more than she did." We got home and saw only grandpa's friends were up.
"Welcome home." One of them said quietly.
"Did mama and Tsuna go to bed?" I asked them.
"Yes. Poor Tsuna could hardly make it home."
"Thank you for walking with them. I'm going to retire for the night."
"Good night, Yona. You did great up there."
I walked up stairs and took a long, deserved shower. In my room, the four were waiting for me. "Welcome back, master. Your performance was spectacular." Freya said.
"Did anything happen?" I asked.
"Nothing happened. However, I found something interesting." Elf said.
I sat down at my desk and noticed a few symbols written down on my notebook. "What's this?" Elf jumped up.
"I found that when you sing, you unconsciously let out some alchemy. It's why so many people felt enamored with your performances."
"What does that mean?"
"Singing makes your powers stronger."
"And?"
"That's it. None of our previous masters have found that correlation. You can harness that power during your performances and use it to make a philosopher's stone if you'd like." I was still confused about the whole thing.
"To create one, you don't just need a lot of human sacrifices, you need a lot of power. Your moves can use a lot of power. Plus, it's not wise to let your alchemy flow like that without you knowing. If you're attacked right after a performance, you'll be exhausted." Elf explained seriously.
"So, how do I harness it?"
"You can harness it using those inscriptions I wrote down. You can create a device of sorts to store it similar to the ones that store the noise and homing location."
"I'll have to experiment another day. I'm too tired right now. My head hurts after that explanation actually."
"It's to be expected. Master did perform her heart out." Aya commented from the bed.
"I guess we can let our master rest for tonight." Elf teased.
The next day, grandpa and his friends left. It perplexed me that they only came to see the concert. Grandpa ended up buying almost all of the promotional material and band pictures. A few weeks have passed and I've noticed how Tsuna's been keeping his distance from me. It was almost as if he was scared, as if it was the Tsuna from before the therapy sessions.
"Elf, go look through his mind." I ordered.
"Yes, master." She ran off to Tsuna's room. He was taking a nap after school and mama went shopping. I stayed in my room. Five minutes later, Elf came back. "I have troubling news."
"What is it?"
"Somehow, the barrier on his flame is stronger than ever. His mind is mentally back to when you almost killed him."
"Did you see why or who did it?"
"It was your grandfather. He saw the barrier was affecting him and perfected it. He won't be off as much, but it gave him his fear of you again." I sighed and went downstairs. I picked up the phone and called Fon.
"Hello? Is everything alright, Yona?" Fon asked. I was the only one to have his personal number.
"Something happened to Tsuna."
"Again?"
"Yeah. The barrier on his flame is stronger which is going to help him be more stable."
"That's good."
"It isn't, Fon. He's only gotten a little bit better, but he's afraid of me now."
"Trauma is tricky to deal with. I'm sorry this is happening."
"I can't take it away now. It's too strong for me."
"There's absolutely nothing you can do?"
"There isn't. Elf could only look so far." I heard Fon sigh.
"Just leave it for now. I'm sure he'll be better in the future. I don't want you to accidentally kill him. It's better if he can live at least a little bit more stable than dead." I fell on the couch defeated. I knew this was better for him. "Keep your distance for now. You sound like you know it's safer this way. Keep your focus on learning flames for now. Consider this to be put on hold for now."
"What if someone hurts him?"
"Just do everything you've been doing." I took a deep breath.
"I'll try."
"I'd beat you if I was there just like old times."
"I'm sure. The last punch to the throat wasn't enjoyable." I heard him laugh.
"I'm glad you still remember that."
"It's hard to remember your first throat punch."
"You always remember your firsts." My eye twitched.
"Was that a sexual innuendo?"
"No. Maybe." Maybe? He hung up. He's probably laughing to himself. I groaned and went upstairs. Tsuna was still sleeping. "Don't worry, Tsuna. Big sister is always on your side. I'll help you even if it makes the whole world my enemy. Someone has to be evil, right?"
At the end of the school year, the six of us had a graduation party for Kei, Yukine, Sayo, and Aki. The school would feel empty without them. Either way, we all celebrated.
"What's going to happen with Magnolia?" Rinko asked us.
"Don't you ever listen, mom?" Kei asked.
"What was that, dear? I couldn't quite hear you." The rest of us chuckled.
"For the fourth time, we're still going to play together. We have a contract with a record company. After our first live show, they wanted us to sign a five-year deal."
"That's amazing! What about the munchkins?" She asked.
"Ayumu and Yona will still be in school and do their thing. The company will help them with any scheduling conflicts." Kei explained.
"I'm so proud of you all. I can't wait until you take over the world with your music."
"That sounds like a good idea." I said.
"Yona, you always think dominating anything and everything is a good idea." Aki said.
"Is there a problem with that?"
"None here."
"Let Yona be a dominant sadist. It's good for her." Yukine said.
Ayumu and I watched as the four were getting showered with gifts by their families and other friends. "I'm going to miss them in school." I said softly.
"I am too. Those idiots are loud, but they're our idiots."
"It's just Sayo that's an idiot, Ayumu."
"I'm still going to miss her."
"Me too. Who else will carry me upside down?" Ayumu snorted.
At the end of the night, we all went to Kei's house for a sleepover. We already had our things there to begin with. The six of us kept walking until I felt something off. I could hardly smell who was following us, but they had a strong flame. It was being repressed. I felt scared. I didn't want my friends to get caught up with my mess.
"Hey, guys?" They looked back at me. "I think I forgot something back at the park. I need to go check if it's there."
"Let us go with you. It's late." Kei said.
"No. I'll be just fine." They eyed me suspiciously.
"What's the matter, Yona?" He asked seriously.
"It's nothing. I just need to go alone." I said forcefully.
"Why?"
"Just listen to me!" The smell was getting closer. I felt on edge, uneasy. That's when I saw shadowy figures walking up behind the group. "Watch out!" It was too late. Kei, Aki, and Sayo were taken out.
"Kei!" Ayumu shouted.
"Yukine, Ayumu, run!" They were easily knocked out and then all I saw was darkness. Why did it have to be today? The dolls were more than confident that I wouldn't need them. It was their maintenance day to make sure they were functioning correctly.
When I woke up, I was lying on cold concrete. I couldn't smell anyone but my friends. I sat up and noticed they were still knocked out.
"This is my fault."
I looked around and saw we were in a rather empty warehouse. There were a few boxes around, but that was about it. I heard groaning and looked back. Kei was the first one up.
"Yona?"
"Are you alright?" I asked, running to his aid.
"My head hurts, but I'll be fine. What about you?"
"I'm fine. The others are still out."
"What the hell happened?" I bit my lip and looked away. "Yona?"
"It was my fault this happened."
"What did you do?"
"I'm alive."
"Is it your sperm donor?"
"No. He's dead. I don't know who did this, but I know it's because of me. Don't worry. I'll protect you." I said with a smile.
"How?"
"Yona? Kei?" Yukine was the next one up. Soon, the others were up. I told them the situation. For some reason, they were all calm. It was the opposite of what I'd expect to happen.
"We should find a way out." Kei said.
"It's too dangerous. If the kidnappers see us moving, we'll get hurt." Yukine said.
"I'm with Yukine." Aki said.
"I… I'll look for a way out. I can protect myself better than the rest of you." I suggested.
"Go. We'll stay here." Kei said.
"Kei?!" Everyone said.
"I believe in Yona. She's the student of Namimori's demon. I have no doubt in her ability to protect herself."
"Thank you, Kei. I'll try to get us out of here as quickly as possible." I could smell when the enemy would be approaching. That was my advantage at this moment. I couldn't lay any traps without causing suspicion.
For the next ten minutes, I went around the entire warehouse. Everything was sealed shut. Even the boxes were completely hollow and wasn't something that could help us. I could use the noise, but then I'd have to fess up about alchemy. I didn't want to do that. I walked back and shook my head.
"So, do we just wait?" Sayo asked.
"For now." An hour seemed to have passed. My head perked up when I smelt someone.
"Yona?"
"Someone's here." The door opened. A man walked in with a bunch of others in swat gear.
"Welcome." We kept silent. "I'll cut to the chase. I was hired by a very wealthy man to take you out."
"Who?" I questioned.
"I believe he's part of the Vongola. I believe his name was Iemitsu. Though, I could be wrong." My eyes widened. That bastard was going to sacrifice my friends to kill me? "You all look like you know him. Who is he to you?" The man said. I stood up.
"Yona?"
"You're looking for his daughter, right?"
"That wasn't what he wanted. He said there was a parasite leaching off his family." That's what he said about me? He's the one that crashed into my family and leached off of us.
"Will killing that parasite be enough for you?"
"Sorry, but I was assigned to kill all of you. Plus, I don't want any eye witnesses." I looked back and saw Ayumu whimpering with tears. The rest had empty looks of hopelessness. I looked back at the men.
"I'm sorry, but today will be your last day alive." I said seriously, making up my mind. Talking won't get us out of this mess. Only violence will solve our problem.
Everyone looked at me with shock. The men laughed. "That's cute. Shoot her." One of them held their guns up and shot. I heard the girls scream. The bullet bounced off the shield. I picked it up.
"That's cute. You missed." I mocked.
"What?! Shoot again!" The same thing happened. I had gotten better at my alchemy to the point no one saw the shields. "What the hell are you?" The man asked. I picked up the bullets.
"This should be enough."
"Yona?" I looked back at the five.
"I'm sorry." I dropped the newly crafted glass containers I made using the bullets. Two noise came up from the alchemic circle. "Get them." The two ran for the group of men. While they did kill the majority, they unfortunately ran out of stamina and crumbled out of existence.
"Kill the witch!" Their bullets couldn't get past my shield. That's when I heard Ayumu scream. Someone had come up from behind us without me knowing. She was being held by a man, a gun pressing against her temple.
"Don't touch my sister!" Kei yelled and tried to attack him, but was too slow. These men were trained. Kei ran right past them.
My heart was beating weirdly. What was happening? I felt something click in me. It was the same feeling when I made a shield for the first time. My arm lifted up automatically. An alchemic circle appeared right before my hand. Vertical lines appeared, coming out of the circle in a spiral. Why did I feel like I've done this before? I put my hand into the circle and felt the lines attach themselves to my arm, ripping my sleeve in the process. It felt super tight. It felt right. Everyone looked at me with shock. I looked at my arm and saw it was covered with a dark maroon fabric. The wrists had black armor that protruded out to a point with what looked to be blue alchemic gems in them. Why wasn't I surprised? Why did this seem familiar?
"What did you do, witch?"
"This is…"
"That's correct, master." Everyone jumped and looked at the entrance. Elf was there with a warm yet sinister smile.
"Who the hell are you?" The man asked.
"I'm here to assist my master. Go ahead and take your new ability for a spin." If Elf trusted it, then I will too. I wanted to deal with the man holding Ayumu first. I swung my hand and multiple wires wrapped around the gun threatening Ayumu's life. I could see how the wires were connected to my fingertips. I threw it away before wrapping the wires around the man's neck. I flew him across the room before turning to the man threatening our lives. I flew him into the rest of the men.
"Very good, master. You're a natural. Now, finish them off. Dissect them." My hand acted automatically. Wires wrapped around all of them. My hand clenched into a fist. They all screamed as the wires sliced them open. I could have completely cut them into pieces, but I didn't want to traumatize the five more than they already are. The wires went away and so did my glove. My arm had imprints and small cuts from the glove and wires. I couldn't smell any other enemy. In fact, I couldn't smell anything. Elf walked to me. "How are you feeling?" I fell to my hands and knees, panting heavily.
"Everything is burning. It hurts. Why?" I questioned.
"That happens when you've used a lot of alchemy all at once."
"Yona!" The five ran to me. I puked up blood.
"We need to get you to the hospital. You're seriously hurt." Yukine said.
"Hospitals will not help your friend. She just needs to rest."
"Kei! Ayumu!" I heard Angelo's voice. He ran in. I couldn't smell him. Did my smell go away?
"I numbed your senses while you're in pain, master. Nothing of yours will be working for a few days." Elf said in a calm voice.
"What the hell happened here? What's wrong with Yona?"
"We were kidnapped and almost killed if it wasn't for Yona." Kei explained.
"What?" He looked at me and then the bodies. "Let's bring her to our place to rest. Her mother would freak out if we brought her like this." Angelo said. Aki picked me up with ease.
"I shall accompany you. My master needs my medical assistance."
"Who are you?" Angelo asked.
"I am nothing but a doll created to serve my master's every need." She turned into a doll before jumping onto me.
"Elf, it hurts."
"Wait a little bit more, master. I'll properly fix you when you get to safety."
When we got to Angelo's house, I was placed in a guest bedroom. Rinko was there, prepared with a first aid kit as well. Elf grew to full size and then touched all over my body. "It seems like you just overdid it."
"No shit." I muttered. She pressed her palm against my forehead.
"There, there, master. In ten minutes, you'll be fully pain free. However, your senses will be very sensitive. I'll prepare you some glasses. Please try to bear with the rest of the uncomfortable feelings." I groaned. I could see everyone watching me.
"It'll be okay, Yona. We're here. We'll help you get through this." Yukine said. After a few minutes, the pain went away. I was able to sit up.
"How do you feel? Angelo asked.
"Weird." I covered my eyes.
"Right here, master." Elf put a pair of glasses on my face.
"Where did you get that?!" Sayo exclaimed.
"I'm always prepared." I could see things just fine again.
"Can you tell me what you did?" Angelo asked seriously. He sat in the chair near the bed.
"I guess the cat is out of the bag. As childish as it sounds, I'm an alchemist."
"After what we saw, we wouldn't laugh at that." Aki commented.
"I can turn things into other things beyond your wildest imagination. I'm not exactly too sure what I did back there. That was the first time doing that."
"You killed those men." Angelo said seriously.
"I'm aware. It wouldn't be the first time. I've always had people after me. It's a tiring game."
"Who's after you?"
"Iemitsu." He went pale.
"Your father?" Rinko asked.
"Yes, that sperm donor is doing this."
"Kids, can I talk to Yona alone?" Angelo asked.
"Why?" Kei asked.
"Just go." They all left until Angelo was the only one left. "Tell me, Yona, do you know what he's part of?"
"I don't know and I frankly don't care. I'll kill anyone after me or my family. An enemy is an enemy."
"Do you want me to tell you?"
"Didn't you hear me? I don't care what he's part of. The next time he's here and messes up, I'm going to bring his crimes to light and have him humiliated before I kill him."
"You have a dark mind." Elf chuckled at Angelo's comment.
"Alchemists are never kind people. They only pick certain individuals to be kind to and when someone crosses them, they attack. My master is kind yet terrifying."
"Does anyone know?" Angelo asked me.
"Kazuma and Fon know. I'd like for you and the others to keep quiet about this as well. The more people know, the more people will be after me."
"I can do that and I'm sure the others will oblige as well. With us, you don't have to worry. We'll have your back. Now go rest while I talk to the others. You look beyond exhausted."
"Thank you. Elf, can you go get me that blanket from home?" She already had it in her hands. I should have known. They're always prepared.
"Right here, master. Go ahead and wrap yourself up. I'll keep an eye on you tonight."
