Chapter 1
His eyes hurt from the brightness, he had just woken from … something. He was deploying to a planet what was it? Initium V of sub-sector Novum, what happened there? His ears were ringing and he hurt all over. He remembered a battle but the details after that are foggy. Was this it? Had he died? Was he with the Emperor?
Rapidly blinking as his eyes adjusted to the light he saw the room, he certainly wasn't dead. After thanking the Emperor for saving him he looked around. He could tell this was an infirmary but it looked off. He had seen his fair share of injuries in his centuries of service but this was unlike any he had seen before. It was strange yet he couldn't think of why. As well as that he felt… different, his body felt weird. Next to him was a girl, she looked familiar to him however he couldn't tell where he had seen her before, again strange but questions about that could wait until later. Firstly he needed to know where he was and then he could work on getting back.
"Where am I?"
—
Having practically a miniature heart attack Pyrrha quickly regained focus. He opened his eyes? Does that mean he's awake? She hoped he had recovered but didn't want to overreact, last thing she wanted was false hope.
Stuttering over her own words she asked "Jaune, are you, Jaune are you alright?"
Looking down at Jaune he blinked a couple times, he looked confused and pained though she supposed that wasn't unusual in a situation like this. He may be suffering from muscle cramps, but he was alive, in pain yes but alive, that was something she could be happy for.
Pyrrha couldn't help but smile, she had to try not to cry. She couldn't recall the last time she was this happy, even if she didn't … nevermind. She missed the training, and honestly she missed him, he'd have some work to catch up on but for now, all that mattered was that he was alright.
She was going to say something else when he spoke first.
"Where am I?"
"You're in Beacon, you were injured and you fell into a coma for almost a month."
She thought her worries were over but the look on his face said otherwise, he looked confused as if he didn't understand what she said. She hoped she was wrong but she knew deep down that it was possible, she buried the thought before for if it were true it may be even worse than his death.
He may have forgotten everything.
—
Jaune waited for her reply. The girl, looking quite cheerful, replied,
"You're in Beacon Infirmary, you were injured and you fell into a coma for almost a month."
That was unfortunate but of no large concern, he likely got seriously wounded and his Sus-an Membrane implant kicked in causing him to fall into a state of hibernation which to the untrained would seem like a coma. It might explain why he felt different and why his occulobe and Lyman's ears implants weren't working though he couldn't be sure as he hadn't experienced it before.
Though of course the next question would be where this Beacon was, strange, once again it was familiar but he couldn't recall where he heard about it.
"While I think you for aiding my recovery I need to return to my chapter as soon as possible, if you could help me get a ship or if that isn't possible get an astropath to inform my brothers of my survival."
The girl who already seemed a bit concerned now looked incredibly confused, it's possible she hasn't been educated in such matters. While he heard the lack of learning was to prevent people from learning of the ruinous powers he couldn't understand as to why but if it weakened chaos than it was worth some minor annoyances.
He was still waiting for an answer, looking at her it seemed as if she's trying to figure out what exactly he was asking of her. He was no stranger to waiting, patience was essential if you wanted to survive past being a scout marine. It was becoming apparent she wouldn't be able to give the answer he was looking for. Finally after what felt like a minute.
"What do you mean… chapter? Is that like your family?"
That was worrying, her comment of his chapter wasn't exactly right but he wouldn't say it's wrong. Still she had to have heard of them right?
"I mean my chapter, have you not heard of the adeptus astartes? The Space Marines? The Blood Ravens?
She simply shook her head with a face of both concern and confusion.
So she doesn't know. While by now it was a long shot maybe just maybe,
"Do you at least know what segmentum this is?"
Once again she shook her head.
It was then that he realised it. How was he so blind? Of course the room looked off it hadn't the Imperial Aquila or even any xeno iconography. She hadn't heard of the space marines or knew what a segmentum was because this wasn't an imperial planet. This was one of the worlds lost during the great strife and hadn't been brought into the Imperium. Only two questions remained now, how did he get here and more importantly how will he return?
—
Many of the students in beacon were enjoying their weekend, after five days of work everyone enjoys some time off. What many off them weren't expecting was getting knocked to the ground by a blur of red and rose petals. Whoever they were they sure must've had somewhere to be.
—
Ruby was with the rest of the two teams when they got the message from Pyrrha. She had taken while to come back from her usual visit, they were getting slightly worried until she got the message that Jaune had woken up. She of course told everyone else before rushing to go see him. Although looking back she wasn't sure they understood her. While Jaune may not have been her teammate she still cared about him. He had been her first friend on Beacon after all.
There was some commotion caused by the knocking people over and sending papers flying, not to mention the petals, but she didn't mind a lecture or two. As she finally arrived she saw Jaune and Pyrrha, both seemed to be thinking to themselves. Jaune's face looked completely neutral while Pyrrha looked worried and a bit sad.
—
Jaune was deep in thought, he had somehow came to a planet in some far corner of the galaxy without any means of contacting the imperium and likely no way of obtaining space travel. What's more is that it was all so familiar with him, the girl, this 'Beacon' and that device she used, were the mechanics here she would have been killed for using 'heretec', were he a techpriest he would be outraged but he knew better than that, angering the locals wouldn't do him any good here. He prayed for the Emperor to help guide him through this.
Suddenly he was brought back to reality by a girl in red who seemingly appeared out of thin air and caused some flower petals to go everywhere. Before he could say anything to her,
"OHMYGODJAUNEAREYOUOKTHISISFILLERANDIHADTORUNHEREAN-
Pyrrha stopped her before she could continue.
"Ruby I am afraid that Jaune is a bit confused at the moment and it would be appreciated if you could slow down a bit."
Ruby… that's what this red girl was called, she seemed familiar, it only now registered in his head that they both recognised him… before he assumed that was just the girl having heard or seen him before but if this was a lost world…
"Oh sorry Pyrrha, I overreacted a bit."
Pyrrha, that was the girls name? Once again it seemed so familiar but like an itch he couldn't scratch his mind went blank on remembering them.
"Where is everyone else?"
"Well I kind of ran ahead of them but I'm sure they won't be that long."
"Ok well while they come here I wish to ask a few questions, have you ever heard of a … space marine before?"
—
Well I suppose that's to be expected, the gi- Pyrrha was asking Ruby about everything he mentioned. He already knew the answer, watching the two of them it felt like he recognised them, like one part of him was saying he had seen this scenario before. But again that can be questioned later for now he needed to think of what to do.
Could he gain the necessary materials for a communication device? Even so would it even reach Imperial space or would it attract something worse. He also needed to find his armour and weapons, they must've been damaged from the fight, otherwise there was no way they could have removed the armour, even if damaged he doubted they would have anything better.
Looking up he could see Pyrrha and Ruby still talking and another man approaching them, he immediately knew this wasn't another student. This was a man of great power and he could tell he had outlived everyone else in this room. Once again some part of him said his name, Ozpin.
—
"Well it appears your friend has recovered."
Pyrrha and Ruby didn't see him and were surprised by his sudden appearance.
"Apologies for scaring you I heard from your teams he had woken up and came here to see for myself."
"Oh are they here then?" Ruby said with her usual enthusiasm.
"Last I heard they went to make pancakes to celebrate, usually food isn't allowed in here, however perhaps this time could be an exception."
Pyrrha still confused about earlier decided to see if the Ozpin knew anything.
"Professor, would you by chance know what a 'space marine', or 'segmentum' is?
"While I am not familiar with the term 'Space Marine' it sounds like it may be some rumour of a new secret Atlas project, however I am not familiar with a 'segmentum'."
"Where would you have heard of such things?"
"Well from Jaune Professor, I think he may have forgotten about Beacon and is a bit confused at the moment."
"Perhaps he should come with me to my office than? I may be able to help him."
Ruby being concerned for her friend asked, "He hasn't lost his memories like forever right?"
"Oh it's nothing like that, he likely just has amnesia and will need help remembering."
Jaune, who had been silently listening throughout the conversation decided to go with him. While he didn't trust Ozpin he would play along, at least for now. Trying to stand up he collapsed onto the floor.
"OHMYGODJOUNEAREYOUOK"
Pyrrha and Ruby went to help him up.
"Ah yes I forgot he hasn't moved in weeks, don't worry after a few days his body will adapt and he will be able to move like normal again."
After some effort he stood up on his own. His legs hurt and wanted to just give up but he continued. He had suffered worse before and lived. He followed Ozpin towards the door.
"Oh and Ruby, one last thing. I've received some complaints of people being knocked over and rose petals covering the halls, you wouldn't happen to know about that would you?"
Jaune heard Ruby muttering an apology before leaving?
—
Nora led the rest practically crashing into the room. Seeing Pyrrha and Ruby
"Hey guys! We're here! Is he ok? Where's Jaune?
"He's with Ozpin now, he said he had amesa or something."
"Amnesia." Ruby corrected. "Ozpin said he will be fine after a while."
Pyrrha trusted Ozpin, she knew if anyone could help him he could but even so she was worried for him, what was he talking about before? Not even Ozpin knew. It was so strange, before he said he just had sisters and the only chapter she heard of was the book kind.
"Sorry about being late" Ren said moving out from behind Nora, "Nora insisted on getting pancakes to celebrate."
"Pancakes?" Ruby smiled mischievously "I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we had one before he came back." However looking at them she didn't see any. "Wait where are they?"
Nobody needed to reply as the guilty smile from Nora said enough.
—
Jaune followed Ozpin to his office, while walking he immediately noticed his height. Was everyone else taller than normal? He remembered earlier, his legs were both tired and painful, touching his leg he felt it was normal. He had lost it in his second century of service while fighting one of those emperor damned carnifexs. Could it be possible that somehow he had lost his gene seed and implants and been reverted to his original self? He had never heard of such a case, and if he didn't have his gene seed was he still a space marine? A space marine without gene seed was unheard of. It was like an inquisitor without power or a techpriest who hated toasters.
He pushed those thoughts away for now he had larger concerns than questioning what he was. The how here was more important. Could this be some sort of chaos trickery? Possible, it would answer some of the questions. The warp was another possibility, as a librarian he knew more than most about the many strange warp phenomenons that have occurred. It would certainly explain how he got here and why he was normal. Perhaps it the Emperor? He may have been sent here with a purpose, was there a mission for him?
Entering the elevator he was being brought up to the office
Another strange occurrence was that everyone here had a connection to the warp. He didn't think of it much at first. Those two girls, Ruby and Pyrrha, he thought were just psykers in training but everyone he walked by were psykers. Most had rather a weak presence but that didn't change the fact that they were still psykers. Could this be a planet of them? He had only heard of one planet that could accurately fill that description but it had been burned and destroyed millennia ago.
The elevator door opened and they stepped out. Looking around it was a room with clockwork everywhere, on the walls the floor and the roof, and several large windows giving a view over what he supposed was Beacon. In the middle of the room was a desk which Ozpin now sat at. He gestured to the chair in front of it.
"Take a seat, I get the feeling we have a lot to discuss."
—
Take a seat, young Arcwalker?
Well that references aside the conversation with Ozpin is gonna have to wait. How much does he know? Is he actually from 40k as well? Is he actually the Emperor in disguise and all this is part of his master plan for humanity? Maybe if I pull a Qrow and get really drunk but I wouldn't count on it.
I put more effort into this chapter, it's twice as long and hopefully good quality. Though you can be the judge of that.
For some context firstly I picked the Blood Ravens as his chapter due to it's abundance of psykers fitting with the entire aura psykers thing, though I suppose now I have to add in a moment where he steals something. Also for those of you who don't know space marines are given a number of implants, the ones mentioned here are the Lyman ear, occulobe and sus-an membrane also called the hibernation implant. Lyman's ear replaces the normal ears allowing a space marine to filter out certain sound and making them immune to dizziness and nausea, the Occulobe is added to the eye enhancing how far they can see and allows them to have near perfect night vision and finally the sus-an membrane as mentioned allows a marine to go into hibernation going potentially years without food or water.
Next chapter we have a discussion with Ozpin. Will Jaune remember Remnant? Will Ozpin just think he's gone insane? Did he actually spend centuries fighting for the Emperor or was that all just a dream? Will he purge every faunus? How will this change the plot of RWBY? Will I give satisfying answers to these questions
All that will all be answered in due time … or maybe this gets cancelled or something and then you have to make up your own answers. Hopefully there never will be a "That didn't age well" comment on this chapter…
Anyway expect an update some point next week.
