Lucy rubbed her face for nth time that day, the smell of medicine and the noise from the machines was giving her a headache

Her eyes wander the wet tiles, the janitor was clearly bad at his job making the dirt footprints of passing people stick to the ground

The hospital wasn't that bad, but it's the only place Lucy could afford for her sick mother

She looks up, the white bed with blue rug covering her mother who had several tubes and IVs.

"Hey mom...what do I do?" She whispered, the tears pooling in her eyes as she held her hands "what should I do...?"

She let her face fall on the hands, silent cries following for another hour until the visiting hours ended

It all started one evening, the happy tea time she has with her mother every Friday after Lucy comes back from her classes

One minutes, they were laughing and talking about how the clothing business was going so well and the next the younger blonde was panicking to explain what was wrong with her mother on the emergency line

Weeks and weeks, her mother was slipping in and out of consciousness while she left her school to work on their business

But it was no where near as good as her mother, it was losing the orders rapidly. And Lucy had no choice to take up an offer

An offer from her father to give up the business to treat her mother until she recovers

She spend hours in the cabin beside his office, just drinking cups and cups of water until he called her saying it was a yes or no answer. He won't taking anything else.

And here she was, chanting sorry to her mother outside the ICU, a crying mess that her bestfriend now witnessed when he arrived on her message

Gray ran, pushing past people to hold the girl who was about to touch the floor from exhaustion

"H-hey Luce, get a hold of yourself. Lucy!" He called to her and Lucy did hear him, the faint noise of his worried call to the nurse nearby before everything went black

Hours later, Gray was watching the girl who drank her orange juice and burgers on the table, he bought from the convenience store

"Slow down"

She hummed back, taking more big bites

"It was not your fault, really"

At that she stops, gulping down the food in her mouth looking up at him.

"But I signed the papers, I sold it away"

"He is still giving you the money, so dontㅡ"

"I gave away the one thing we called as ours, the one thing my mom worked on her life"

Gray could only watch and listen to her hiccup in cries. The silence was the only thing he could offer as a comfort to her.

She steals the can of beer from Gray's hands, much to his dislike but he let her be.

Once she calmed down again, Lucy bid him goodbye with a lot of assurances of being okay and will be alright with a good nap and walked to her house. The cold air and the snow fall that was starting

It was pretty, she liked it so much but if her situation was not like this and she was not burdened on her shoulders

Lucy would've smiled the brightest and happiest, the winter being her favorite season afterall

She starts walking again, the snow sticking on her hair and the black long coat. The orange lights lighting her path home

Until her shoulder recieved a tap, a soft one but it did make her flinch turning back to see a petite girl

"Hai, care for a tarot reading?"

"Eh? Ta-tarot?"

"Yes, it's for free" she smiled, and it gave Lucy chills. The girl was wearing really light clothes for the weather

There was something about her, she couldn't pin it but the purple eyes of her witched into nodding

Following her into the building left to them, the black walls and white curtains. Was she inside a other world? Are the usual tarot reading rooms like this?

"Umm...excuse me, how more inside?" Lucy managed to ask her

"Seven more steps and you can sit comfortably" the girl giggled, her head turning halfway to let Lucy see the smile

Lucy gulped down, her fingers scratching in nervousness. And like she counted, they sat down on the floor with cushions

The cards were placed before her, so smooth and prettily.

bewitching, really.

Lucy kept watching as the girl did her procedures, a whispered enchants passing by her ear

"Lucy Heartfilia, would you let me help you heal your mother?" She said finally after picking three cards

"What?"

"I'll give you a book, a spell to summon a demon who will grant you the wishes you ask"

"I'm sorry, I think I made a mistake comiㅡ" .

The purple eyed smiles, a sickeningly sweet one "your mother will be healthy and happy"
