Chapter 1 Naming a Stray Without Common Sense
Trivia #1: When the author says the OC has no common sense, she means it.
The unnamed girl merely raised an eyebrow at the laughing Satoru, confused at what he found funny in this situation. His laughter died down when Suguru elbowed him with an eyebrow raised, silently asking him how they were going to deal with this. Hands nonchalantly in his pockets, Satoru motioned to the Special Grade Curse beside the girl. "Say girlie, do you know what that is?"
Opalescent gray hues stared at the two taller men without interest, wariness slowly began to creep in her gaze at the tone they were using. "She's a curse, her name is Amanozako."
"Then do you know who we are?" It was Suguru who asked her this time, clearly calmer than the whitette beside him. Satoru eyed the noirette carefully, noting the tremendous amount of Curse Energy she had. One would think that she was a skilled Curse User since she wasn't listed in the Sorcerers registry, but both Sorcerers knew better. She was far too amateur-ish for that.
"...Sorcerers, I'm guessing."
"Correct~" Satoru said in a singsong tone as he clapped his hands at her reply, almost as if praising a child who answered correctly on an exam.
His next words however, had the girl tensing up in apprehension as his attitude flipped. The once playful behavior turned to a cold emotionless gaze as he pointed at Amanozako. "Then you know what we're supposed to do with Curses like that , right?"
Without further ado the girl immediately straightened up, fists out and ready to fight as she stepped in front of the Curse who protected her. She had no intention of letting someone who protected her to be hurt right in front of her. Yet the only sensation she could feel as she moved was her breath being taken away, a numbing pain spreading through her chest. Blood slowly trickled down her lips, the surroundings around her seemingly fuzzy as she staggered on her feet. She struggled to breathe and stand properly but glared at the two Sorcerers nonetheless, platinum orbs glinting like the sharpest blades.
"If you dare to hurt her… I'll kill you. " The last thing she could remember was her knees buckling, her strength giving up on her. She would've fallen to the ground if it wasn't for the strong yet gentle hands catching her. Amanozako screeched as its creator passed out, unwillingly fading away into a mark encircling its creator's neck despite its want to heal her.
Satoru whistled playfully in awe, noting how the Curse couldn't manifest itself in existence once the unnamed girl lost consciousness. Brushing away her hair, he stared at the girl in his arms with burning curiosity. Her exposed neck was encircled by two black lines resembling tattoos. Her breathing was ragged, complexion a pale white and scrunched up in pain. They both knew the girl needed treatment soon.
The Gojo heir glanced at his best friend, his cerulean blue eyes sparkling brightly as a ridiculous thought came into his mind. "Can we take her in—?!"
"She's not a stray Satoru." The ravenette facepalmed at his best friend's exclamation, glancing at the girl as he wondered why the Curse was protecting her. They've only arrived moments ago and they had no way to know what happened beforehand. All Satoru could see with his Six Eyes was the sudden increase of Curse Energy, shooting off of the charts and enveloping the whole forest like a curtain. A curtain thick enough that the Six Eyes couldn't even see what was happening in it.
They were clueless of what this girl had done, but understood that she had massive Curse Energy and the Curse that was protecting her also killed the Amakiri Curse they were supposed to exorcise. A pity since he was thinking of absorbing the Special Grade Curse and adding it into his arsenal. Though that aside, they'd have to take her back to the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School to get an explanation, otherwise she might just be plastered a bounty as a Curse User.
Besides, she seemed to need treatment, considering her visible wounds not to mention if she had any internal wounds. They'd have to bring her to Shoko and hope she'll cooperate with the questioning otherwise the Higher Ups might have a say in it. Satoru grinned as if reading his partner's mind, watching Suguru sigh as he took out his phone and dialed the auxiliary manager to pick them up. It was going to be a long day.
Though that being said, the girl wasn't happy to find out she woke up in the specialized infirmary with seals plastered all over the walls for precaution. No doubt it was the right decision to put up those seals. Since Amanozako appeared menacingly the moment the unnamed girl regained her consciousness, shooting out of the mark on her neck in the form of dark smoke. The suffocating Curse Energy of a Special Grade Curse filling the infirmary instantly.
The noirette sighed as she saw Satoru and Suguru in the room, raising a hand to stop the Curse from lashing out. Though rather than worried for herself, the ravenette seemed to be more concerned for the mythological goddess as she looked over it gently with a frown. The silver eyed girl exhaled in relief when she saw no wounds on the Cursed Spirit, guiding it to settle behind her like a looming guard. To which Satoru was greatly amused while Suguru raised an eyebrow in interest.
Satoru merely laughed at her furious glare, leaving the girl unamused as she held herself back from attacking him. Being the ever calm person he was, Suguru attempted to divert her attention away from Satoru's provocations and tread cautiously. "We're not going to hurt you."
An audible sigh escaped from her lips, clearly in disbelief as if asking it it was a joke. The upper half of her body was bandaged neatly, the pain serving as a constant reminder of the last events she remembered. Amanozako shuffled uncomfortably behind her, discontented by the amount of seals on the wall and also of its creator's pain. "You're saying that like the guy over there didn't threaten me some time ago. And how long did I pass out?"
"For only about three hours. Our colleague healed you so you should be good as new in two days or so. And we did mean it when we said we're not going to hurt you. We just need to ask a few questions."
"Meaning if I don't then there will be consequences." She was irritated to no end but she understood that there was no way out of this situation right now. Suguru only smiled at how fast she caught up, nodding without hesitation.
Slumping down to the bed with an exasperated sigh, she stared aimlessly at the ceiling which was also decorated in the same seals as the wall. "Then, who are you guys? I know you're Sorcerers but I don't think you're the ones any of the families sent."
Suguru furrowed his eyebrows, donning an expression of slight confusion at the mention of "families". Noting how it wasn't singular but plural. "I am Geto Suguru, the white haired guy over there is Gojo Satoru. We're both students from the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, a school specialized to educate Sorcerers. You're not from one of the Three Major Clans are you?"
"Tokyo… Jujutsu… Clans… what now?" The girl was visibly confused by the intake of new information. She's briefly heard of Sorcerers and how their jobs were to exorcise those creatures called Curses or Cursed Spirits, but not once has she been taught of how the Jujutsu society works nor the basics of it. Though she supposed it would make sense that there was some sort of hierarchy and education system for it.
On the other hand Satoru stared in silence, soaking in every single information he could possibly get from Suguru's interaction with the girl. That's why he didn't miss how his classmate tensed up, eyes widening as the girl muttered her name albeit with suspicion when Suguru asked.
"My name is… Takefuru Kuma."
"Takefurukuma? What about your last name?" Suguru hastily inquired, a slight chill of familiarity creeping up his spine at her name.
"Last name? Like I said, it's Takefuru. My first name is Kuma while my last name is Takefuru."
The confirmation brought a small relief to the Cursed Spirit Manipulator, though a part of him was still doubting it. A name that he remembered all too well in their Jujutsu history class and the untold story that goes with it. Slowly reverting to his relaxed state, he carried on the conversation as if nothing happened. "You know about Sorcerers and Curses right?"
The girl, Kuma, nodded nonchalantly as she told them of her knowledge about the Jujutsu world. Which… sent the room into a short silence. Kuma blinked at the sudden quietness, shifting into a sitting position with the help of Amanozako only to see Suguru giving her a look of disbelief and Satoru shooting her a dumb blank look. At that moment the strongest duo understood that she was practically oblivious to how the Jujutsu world worked.
With how it stands right now, she was merely an ignorant human with above average physical abilities suddenly dragged into the world of Jujutsu then blessed with an overpowered Cursed Spirit under her control. It's like handing an oblivious child a sword to swing around aimlessly. Well that and her exponential Curse Energy, they supposed. Her potential was enormous, but the Higher Ups wouldn't necessarily agree with them. To the narrow-minded traditionalists, she was nothing but an unknown threat to be eliminated along with the Imaginary Vengeful Cursed Spirit. She'd be up for execution soon enough if they don't do anything. Which was why they decided to take action first.
The chair creaked as Satoru stood up abruptly, gaining the attention of the two other occupants in the room. There was a beaming grin across his lips, somehow ominously so as he clapped his hands once. "Yosh, let's leave the complicated parts for later and get straight to the point."
Without hesitation the whitette pointed to the clueless girl, a serious look painted in his deep ocean eyes. "Join the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School or you'll be executed by the Higher Ups."
"Wha—" Surprisingly it was Suguru who let out that surprised gasp, though both his and Kuma's eyes widened in surprise at that. Suguru had no plans of being that direct with her after all.
Clearly the silver eyed brunette didn't take a liking to his words. She was unknowledgeable of how the Higher Ups have done things, of their philosophy and fearful cruelties. "Why? What do you mean execution ? I haven't done anything wrong."
Satoru grabbed the chair from earlier, sitting on it backwards and leaning on the backseat in a childish manner. "No~ You see… The Higher Ups here are cowards. As it stands right now, you're only an anomaly and a threat to them with the little goddess over there. You have the potential but right now you're weak . It's easier to dig out the roots before the bud fully blooms after all. Of course just because you join the school doesn't mean you're automatically safe. Those old Higher Ups will try everything they can do to eliminate you, but at least you'll be safer with us by your side. After all… we're the strongest ."
"I refuse."
"Eh?" Satoru's glasses clattered to the floor, both him and Suguru staring confusedly at her while Kuma just gazed back with a blank expression.
"I don't want to be protected. I've had enough of that. They promised me that they would protect me so there was no need for me to learn about Jujutsu. And look where that got me after they died. I want to be strong. Strong enough to protect myself from anything that might happen. Strong enough to defeat all the Curses. Strong enough to win against everything and stand as the strongest."
Her opalescent silvery gaze was burning brightly, showcasing her intent dedication behind her words. She was sick of being treated like a fragile lady and knowing nothing. She was bored of all the secrets those families of hers kept from her. She wanted— No. She needed to become stronger. She has no choice but to do so in this situation anyway. She wasn't backing down no matter what.
And Satoru's lips curled into an insane grin, his cerulean blue orbs glinting as if he's found a priceless treasure for his own entertainment. This was going much more interesting than he had originally thought. Suguru facepalmed, hiding a small smile behind his palm. At least he was relieved that the girl had taken to this information better than they had thought. Anyone would be surprised if they were suddenly told they were about to be executed after all. The Jujutsu world has never been kind to anyone so a few screws loose were just what they needed to survive.
"Now that it's settled let's get you enrolled then! For now let's fill in the enrollment paper~"
Suguru shook his head softly, taking out an enrollment paper that he prepared beforehand along with a pen. "Let's see… Your name is Takefuru Kuma… And when's your birthday?"
"...birthday? What's that?"
"...the day you were born…?" Suguru reluctantly answered, doubt budding in his mind as to why she didn't know what a birthday was. Surely she was aware of such things right…? There was no way a normal person wouldn't—
"How am I supposed to know that?"
On second thought they might be in deeper troubles than they thought.
