The walk back to Natsu's room was quiet, painful. Questions swarmed their minds, Zeref's soothing voice playing on repeat.
"Take some time to think about it. It's a big decision. We will support you both every step of the way"
And it was true, it was one of the biggest decisions of Lucy's life. Natsu didn't know what to say to her, he didn't know if he wanted Lucy to go through with the decision or to remain a mortal.
They both knew either option would be painful; She could remain a mortal, and only see Natsu occasionally for the rest of her life, or spend her life and all of eternity with him, and become apart of the family, but she'd be leaving her own family behind.
When they returned to the privacy of Natsu's bedroom, Luy wasn't sure what took over him. Her eyes watered so quickly that her eyes burned, and sobs suddenly racked her body.
Natsu was quick to catch her quickly weakening body, his arms wrapping around her waist and holding hwr weight up. He shushed the girl, a comforting hand rising and falling up and down her back.
They stood like that for a while, in the center of Natsu's room as Lucy, cried, and cried. It almost made Natsu himself want to cry, but he tried his hardest to stay strong. Natsu could do nothing but to be his rock at the time, until a decision has been made.
The next morning Lucy woke up late. She slept in until her room became too warm, reminding her that one day she could become a demon and not even notice the warmth of a room when she lives in Hell.
She slept like a baby, remembering the way her tired body collapsed into Natsu's the night before, being held up by him before respawning here in Earth.
Natsu had so carefully placed her in her beloved bed, sitting on the floor beside the bed until she fell asleep. It didn't take long, but the demon stayed beside the bed for hours in case his beloved mortal awoke.
He thought hard about how things would turn out, afraid for Lucy and the future. He could only hope that things would turn out well.
Lucy couldn't remember when Natsu left during the night, too deep asleep to recall anything. But she felt refreshed, better than she had in months. She knew the occurrence with Zeref yesterday was to blame, but nobody needed to know.
Lucy's mother was shocked when she saw her daughter coming down the stairs, fully dressed and freshly showered. It was a rare occurrence.
"G-Good morning. Lucy." She spoke up, looking up from the newspaper cross word puzzle she had been working on.
Lucy simply smiled and waved before making her way to the front door. Today I will make it up to Gray for taking care of me for so long
The walk to Gray's wasn't too long, he lived right around the corner since they were young. The weather was perfect for walking, clear skies and breezy. It was almost as if the universe was trying to tell her to stay around a little longer, not to go to Hell and become a demon.
Lucy shook her head as if to clear the clouding thoughts. Today wasn't the day to think about that. Today was a day to live in the moment with her best friend.
When she arrived at the front door of the cute one story home, Lucy rang the doorbell twice before there was an answer. Gray open the door, pajamas still on as he stared out the door was barely cracked eyes. It was clear that he had just woken up.
"L-Lucy?"
"So, yeah. The spell Natsu used sent Zeref to relive his memories, and when he came back, he was so shaken up and basically gave us his permission." Lucy gushed, her arms wrapped around her best friend.
After the surprising arrival Lucy made, he figured he owed it to his best friend to explain herself. So, she told him the truth. They laid in Gray's large couch, cuddling.
Luy simply stripped to her shorts and black shirt, and Gray remained in his sweatpants as they cuddled. Lucy was small spoon, that she liked to be
"Permission? Permission for what? Are you two dating now?" Gray hummed before him, stirring up the questions in Lucy's mind.
"Now that I think about it, no. We never really went over that. B-But let me get to the next part.." Lucy said, Gray resettling back into the position.
"Zeref mentioned how to be Natsu's proper lover it'll be hard and deadly. Living humans can't survive long there, and have to come back to Earth to revitalize, just as demons can't come here too long. So I have a choice to only see him occasionally, and he'll still have all his souls even if he doesn't use them. Or, I can become his partner. A spell binds us together for all of eternity and we'll share his powers, and his souls will disappear forever. But I'll have to d-die in this world."
The silence that followed was worst than the one that followed when Zeref first explained it to the couple. Gray laid silent, still.
"Will I be able to visit occasionally?"
Lucy didn't exactly know the answer to this question, a sigh pushing from her body as she feared he knew the answer to it. Thankfully, she didn't have to say anything.
"Of course you can visit." The voice was so familiar, it shocked Lucy. Both of the cuddling besties in the blue couch jumped, turning to the voice that spoke from behind the wide couch, "Also, who said you could cuddle with anyone besides me?"
Natsu stood beside the bed, shirtless as ever with his signature leather pants, and a fake pout covering his lips. Lucy's lips shaped into a bright grin, while Gray's jaw dropped.
As Lucy tumbled from the couch in the mess of blankets, Gray began to realize what was happening, "Oh shit. Oh shit.. Oh shit!",
tumbled from his lips over and over. He watched as Lucy hugged the stranger, although he knew exactly who it was.
Natsu nodded towards the surprised and shocked boy in the couch as Lucy engulfed him in a hug, "I'm Natsu, as you know." Gray only nodded in shock, watching as his best friend giggled.
When the group finally calmed down, Lucy asked the serious question, "So, he really can come visit in Hell?"
Natsu nodded, "I'm sure we can figure something out"
Lucy smiled, maybe becoming a demon won't be so bad after all
