A/N: there's a slight timeline change with this chapter, can you tell it's been a while since I've read the books?

January 9th 1992

Alexandra was annoyed.

Would you believe Hagrid had managed to get a dragon? What is it with Hagrid and horrifying creatures?

Hagrid didn't tell her, for fear she might tell the one of the teachers. One point for faith!

She had only found out when she badgered Harry to tell her how on earth he had managed to secure himself a detention, only a few days after term starting. Of course, Alexandra also found out after Harry had newfound 'evidence' on Snape trying to get the Philosopher's stone. Which left Alexandra speechless.

If only Harry put as much effort into studies, she thought, he'd be brighter than Hermione.

Apparently, over Christmas break, he'd managed to nick a book from the restricted section. Honestly, Harry could be a Slytherin (he was barely away from her sight for more than ten minutes!). They'd had to stop visiting that strange mirror, courtesy of Professor Dumbledore.

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that. Now, why don't the two of you put that admirable cloak back on and get off to bed."

Honestly, how bad could the mirror have been? Negative ten points to the Headmaster.

On the bright side, Hermione was back! Which perhaps, wasn't such a good thing, considering how busy she was with studying.

It was times like this she wished Fred and George were in her year.

Honestly? It all started when the Longbottom scion had managed to get himself in a leglock curse, courtesy of Draco.

"Alex, you've got to get him to stop!" Hermione scolded, "You're his friend, he'll listen to you!"

"Hermione, Neville needs to learn to stand up for himself. I'm sure it'll sort itself out." dismissed Alexandra.

Suddenly, Harry had run into the common room, followed by Ron, holding a huge tome. It was bigger than two of her heads combined!

"Hermione, Alex, look! I've got more evidence!"

"Not this again," groaned Alex.

"Nicolas Flamel, is the only wizard ever to make a Philosopher's stone. The Philosopher's Stone transforms any metal into gold and produces an elixir of everlasting life. The dog on the third floor has got to be guarding the stone!"

"He might have a point Alex," said Hermione, looking over Harry's shoulder.

"Hermione, please, don't tell me you believe this rubbish." she scoffed. They were lucky it was a Friday and the common room was empty, older students out at Hogsmeade and children too young for Hogsmeade, enjoying the remaining blanket of snow outside.

"Alex, remember Harry's first match?"

"How could I forget, my heart was literally in my mouth!" she responded.

"Wasn't it Snape that jinxed Harry's broom?" supplied Ron, Harry nodded vigorously.

Alexandra still didn't believe them, but she would sleep easier with a guarantee.

"You don't think Hagrid would know anything about the dog?"

"He does have a thing for strange animals," agreed Alex.

"WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?" yelled Harry, already halfway out of the portrait.

It was going to be a long week.
