A/N: Probably not my best work. But I tried with the time I had.
OOOOOOOOOOO
Spike watched as Kara pushed herself back onto her feet out of the corner of his eye. Her eyes scanned the room, looking for the vampire that had been her escort. "Spike!"
"Over here, love!" Spike called out, knocking out a demon that was attacking him.
"Well, get over here!" Kara called back, stabbing a demon that came at her and then using his body to block another demon's attack. "I could use a little help, bucko!"
"Sorry! Bit busy myself!" Spike ducked one arm and jumped over another.
"Well, get un-busy!"
The vampire stopped fighting for a moment and looked over at her. "Hey, aren't you supposed to be an all powerful Slayer?"
"I'm a fucking witch, asshole!" Kara snapped. "I'm not going to accept the Slayer title!"
"So says the one that carries an arsenal of stakes all over her body," Spike taunted, stabbing another demon with the sword that he'd brought to the party. "Which, by the way, you should use on these sodding blokes!"
"Not helping!" Kara growled, trying to keep from becoming dead. "But what should I expect from a vampire that puts peroxide in his hair?"
Spike froze. "Oh come on. You did not just take a cheap shot at my hair."
"Oh, yes I did!"
"You don't make fun of Angel's hair!"
"Maybe because when we enter a demon nest, he actually helps me take them out without trying to just piss them off. Did you think about that?"
"But he has bloody Nancy boy hair!"
"What part of not helping do you not get?!"
She let out a cry when she was grabbed and thrown into a nearby wall. Spike cursed and changed tactic, heading for her to give her the aid that she kept asking for. Kara spat out blood when she pushed herself into a seated position, but the scent didn't affect him as much, thanks to all the demon blood that had been spilled that night. She glared up at him, breathing harshly.
"That last one got me," she complained, after he dispatched that demon. "Thank God, I'm a witch."
"I didn't think you believed in the old guy upstairs," Spike commented, standing in front of her to keep any advancing enemy back.
"Nah, he's cool. Gets along with Hecate just swell." She took a shaky breath. "But coming from an amateur witch, that's not saying much. I probably don't understand the relationship."
"You understand relationships just fine, love," Spike said, casting a look over his shoulder at her. "That's why we work so well together."
"Uh-uh, sure," Kara muttered, rolling her eyes as she pulled her shirt up off her belly. "Ick. This is…going to be a pain."
Spike saw that she was bleeding out. Somehow the Slayer had ended up on the wrong side of a demon's weapon. He didn't think anymore demons were coming, so he turned and crouched next to her. Kara glanced at him and then looked down at her stomach.
"Get back," she ordered.
"I'm not about to walk away from you when you're bleeding," Spike told her, shaking his head. "And don't think I'm tempted to take a sip from you. I'm not hungry."
"Right." She gave him a hard look. "Spike, you haven't eaten in two days. You're bound to be hungry."
"Not for your blood, love."
"Oh, so I'm not good enough for you?"
Spike rolled his eyes. "I never said that. You're good enough for me. Just go ahead and take care of the wound. I'll be right here."
Kara sighed and started muttering a spell under her breath. A glow came from the hole in her stomach and it started closing up. Then it stopped. But the blood didn't.
"Shit!" she cursed, slumping back against the wall.
"What's wrong?" Spike asked, pressing a hand to her wound to try to keep her from bleeding.
Kara, who normally would have pushed his hand off of her, didn't move. "I used too much energy to heal it…Fuckity fuck, fuck, fuck."
"Language, pet," Spike said, thinking of their options.
"Sodding English. Learn it."
Spike looked her in the eye. "We can get you all fixed up because you can't die on me. Not before I get to see what you look like without clothes on."
Kara let out a little laugh. "That's what your after? Spike, I do hot yoga in the buff in the mornings."
"I'll remember that," Spike assured her because he really would. His brow furrowed. "I have an idea, but you're not going to like it."
"Oh yeah?"
Spike felt his inner demon show and he brought his hand up to his mouth, biting down hard. The blood came bubbling to the surface, cold and red. He saw the look on Kara's face as she looked at him. She just stared at him like she'd never seen him before.
"You're going to have to drink," Spike said with a frown. "Just a small bit."
Kara shook her head. "I can't. I can't."
Spike moved closer to her. "Pet, I don't want you to bleed out all over the place. We've still got plenty of bloody demons to take care of. And this is the only first aid I can offer right now. You have to trust me, I wouldn't try something like this if I didn't think it wasn't necessary."
Kara's skin grew paler as she sat there. Spike couldn't believe that she was being as stubborn as she was. Kara looked away from him and then back like she was looking for an escape. Any form of exit from the place. Spike's heart broke at the pain in her eyes.
He reached out and caressed her face. "Love, you got to do what needs to be done in order to stay alive. I know it's asking a lot for you to give up sunlight and food, but you can be around for a long time if you're a vampire." He offered her his bleeding hand again. "All you need is just a taste and you'll be fine."
A tear fell down her cheek, startling him. "I'm scared."
"I know, love, I know. But it'll be over with quickly and me and you, we can go wherever we want afterwards." He slowly inched his hand towards her lips. "Just take a bit and make yourself better."
Kara closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She let him bring his hand to her lips and he felt her tongue hit the open wound. Spike counted a few seconds and gently pulled his hand back. Kara looked at him with wide eyes as he sealed off his wound. She looked a bit tired now.
"It's going to be okay," he said, stroking her face again. "I'm not going to leave your side."
Kara nodded to show that she understood and closed her eyes. She took a breath and then she stopped breathing all together. Spike touched her face and felt the warmth start fading away from her skin. He'd miss that about her.
And to think I never got the chance to have her skin pressed against mine while she was warm, Spike thought, frowning. It would have been nice to keep her as a human, but she needed to survive. This is all I could offer her on short notice.
He traced his fingers over her face. She's going to slap me when she wakes up if she finds me touching her like this. He slowly pulled his hand away from her. If only she would realize how I feel about her…that I…
Kara's body jerked and her eyes snapped open. They were a feral yellow and he watched as she touched her mouth, finding fangs where her canines had been. A tear slid down her face and then another.
"Oh God," she whispered, closing her eyes.
"It's all right, pet," Spike promised, lifting his hand from her belly wound to find it closed. "You're safe now."
"I didn't want to add vampire to the list of things that I am…" she whispered, putting a hand to her face.
"You make a hell of a looker of a vampire," Spike said, offering her a smile.
Kara gave him a look. Spike offered her a hand up and was surprised when she took it. He pulled her to her feet and glanced towards the door. With a smirk he looked at her.
"Want to see if there's anymore demons mucking about?" Spike asked, putting on his game face.
Kara kicked up one of the fallen demons' weapons. "Oh yeah." She hesitated. "But Spike…one thing."
"Yeah?"
The Slayer pressed a kiss to his cheek, surprising him.
"Good luck," she said with a smile. She took off for the door. "Let's go kick some ass!"
Spike put his tongue in his cheek and looked after her. That girl is something…
