After a bit of arguing and some antics that Clay was going to kill Jensen for, the base finally reached a verdict on what to do with Roque. Pooch and Cougar had taken Jensen to the hospital to get checked out and Clay had stayed behind to chew out whoever he could find, until he got a frantic call from the hospital.
All of this was secondhand, but apparently Welch had gotten stuck on a new team while they were on their mission and his new CO was raising hell. He was pissed that his new man was out indefinitely and was calling for all of the Losers heads. And when he finally saw Jensen, chaos ensued.
The pissy CO screamed that Jensen was fine and Welch didn't deserve to be attacked by a behemoth. Pooch rushed forward to defend him, not respecting military ranking at all when it came to his friends. Cougar had to hold him back to make sure they didn't have to deal with two men in lockup. And Jensen chose that moment to pass clean out, taking a header to the floor before anyone could catch him. That caused Pooch to lose it completely and when Clay finally got there, Cougar had him pinned to the floor as he was spitting out some of the most colorful language he'd heard in his life.
Once Clay was there, he finally got everything under control. Welch's CO was sent to an office somewhere, while the Losers were yet again waiting around to hear how their new member was doing. Pooch was muttering something about wrapping Jensen in bubble wrap after this when they finally got permission to see him.
Jensen was laying in a real observation area this time, not the glorified closet like before. They were pumping oxygen in him and had a bag of fluids going into his arm, but other than that he looked okay. He started stirring when the team got closer and Jensen beckoned them to his bedside with a weak hand. Clay was slightly worried, thinking Jensen had really done some damage to his newly repaired lung and he put his ear close to his mouth, listening closely for Jensen's quiet voice.
"Was I good?"
Then Cougar was holding Pooch back from going after Jensen. Once everyone calmed down and the coast was clear, Jensen bragged about causing a scene to make what Welch did seem worse than it was. He spaced out his breathing to make himself light headed, then let himself fall. The only problem came when he hit the floor and the pain made him black out a little for real, but that only helped the charade in his opinion.
Clay threatened a day of training with Roque for every new gray hair that popped up on Pooch's head because of this. Jensen just grinned and reminded him what he told them about keeling over.
After that, the brass was convinced that Roque acted in defense of his injured teammate and wouldn't face disciplinary action. He and Jensen were released around the same time and they made a show of reuniting and Roque helping Jensen back to their base house. It was ridiculous, but in the best way.
The only thing they had to deal with was the base deciding that the team had hit their quota on incidents and needed to be shipped off somewhere else. Clay didn't have a problem with that, but he was a bit worried about where they would send them. There were quite a few undesirable postings at this time of year, but he wouldn't be surprised if they were thrown there as sort of a backdoor punishment.
Clay was currently at the kitchen table, trying to get all of their affairs in order for the move. He wanted to get as much done as he could, instead of waiting until the last second. There wasn't a ton he could do, since he didn't have a location yet, but that information would be coming anytime now.
"Hey Clay, can I confess something to you?" Jensen asked, hovering in the doorway to the kitchen. He'd been forced back into bed for the rest of the day, despite his protests, and was only let up the next day because Cougar took pity on him.
"What did you do?" Clay sighed. When it came to Jensen, the possibilities were endless.
"I sort of hacked into the Army database," Jensen mumbled.
"And why did you do that?" Clay groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Well, I know you were kind of stressed about where we were going to end up, so I thought it would be helpful for me to guide the brass in the right direction. And really, this is me helping them out as well. Now they have less work to do. I mean, it's not like I'm going to wait around for a thanks or anything, but-"
"Where did you stick us?" Clay asked. He didn't know Jensen that well, but if he was a fan of extreme weather, he was going to be pissed. Jensen pulled a laptop from behind his back and slid it across the table. The base information was loaded up on the screen already. "Aw hell."
"Was this a bad call?" Jensen asked worriedly.
"Roque, Cougar! Bring Pooch in here and make sure you hold him!" Clay called out, moving Jensen so Clay was between him and the door.
"Wait a minute," Jensen mumbled. The trio came into the kitchen a few moments later, with Pooch being frog-marched in between the other two.
"Take a look at where Jensen got us stationed," Clay said, smirking at Jensen's terrified face. Pooch squinted at the screen, staring in confusion until he absorbed the information and what it meant.
"This is- that's- that base is only 20 minutes outside of Springfield," Pooch whispered, looking up at Jensen in shock. "I've never been that close to Jolene in our entire relationship."
"Is that okay? I remembered you talking about her and how much you wished you could see her more often, so when I saw that this base was close by, I decided to take a chance. I hope you don't think I overstepped," Jensen stammered.
"Clay, get out of the way. I'm going to hug that man," Pooch demanded.
"Pooch, we just got him out of the hospital. Don't you dare put him back in," Clay warned.
"I don't like the way he's looking at me," Jensen whined, covering his chest protectively.
"It's gonna happen," Pooch said seriously.
"Someone protect me," Jensen whimpered.
"Rest in peace, amigo," Cougar said solemnly.
"See reason!" Jensen begged.
"I don't think there is any getting out of this," Clay sighed, stepping aside to get this over with. Jensen let out a low whine and braced himself as Pooch was finally let loose, jumping forward and crossing the kitchen in two long strides. To everyone's relief, Pooch showed restraint and swept Jensen into a hug gently, making sure he didn't squeeze too hard.
"New kid's not too bad," Roque grunted, shaking his head before leaving the room. Pooch started babbling about all the stuff he was going to show Jensen around town, and how Jolene was going to love him. Jensen just stood there, taking it all in with an embarrassed, but please smile.
It was crazy to think that random circumstance had brought them all together, but they ended up fitting so well. They could've done without some of the more dangerous and stressful events, but those kinds of things bonded people. And as it stood now, they were well on their way to ingratiating Jensen fully into their messed up little family. Clay figured he could officially say that Jensen truly was a Loser.
