A/N: Please don't hate me for this story.

OOOOOOOOOOOOO

Roman stared in horror at the building in front of him. His girlfriend's home. It was ablaze and the smoke cast off by it could be seen for miles. People had already been evacuated from the building, but he didn't see any sign of his girlfriend in the milling people.

His phone rang and he looked down to see her name on the screen. "Trinity!" he exclaimed, pressing his phone to his ear. "Trinity, baby, where are you?"

"I'm in the building," Trinity cried. "I tried to get out but the fire was already on my doorstep. Roman, please tell me that someone is coming!"

Roman called out to a nearby firefighter. "Hey! My girlfriend is in there!"

The firefighter acknowledged him and radioed in the information to his other firefighters. Roman heard Trinity cursing on the phone and coughing.

"Trinity, hon, I need you to find a towel and wet it. Something, anything to put over your head," Roman instructed. "And keep low to the floor."

"Okay…okay…" He heard her moving around and the roar of the flames that surrounded her apartment. "I found something…Roman, I'm scared…"

"I know, baby, I know," Roman said, looking towards the building again. "Can you make it to the window?"

"I – I think so…"

"Okay, get to the window, but don't open it."

He saw a shape appear at one of the windows. If he counted the apartment windows right, the shape was standing in Trinity's apartment. She pressed her hand against the glass and looked out at the people. The people milling about on the street cried out and pointed towards her. One woman passed out with a shrill cry.

Roman ran a hand over his face, trying to think. He didn't want to admit that he was scared. That he was afraid that he was going to lose his girlfriend. If he hadn't gone off to get to takeout, he would be in there with her and he would be able to think of ways to get out of there. With her. Unharmed.

"Roman," Trinity said, bringing his attention back to her. "Roman, baby, don't – don't beat yourself up for this. Please."

"I'm not," Roman lied.

"Honey, I know you…I've known you long enough to know that you're beating yourself up for not being here with me…but that's okay…This is okay…I'm glad you're not in here with me…at least one of us will be able to get out of this alive…"

"Now don't talk like that, Trinity," Roman ordered. "You're going to make it out alive." He listened to her cough. "I don't want to hear you talking like this is the end. You're going to be brought out here and get the treatment that you need and then go on as usual."

"So you say," Trinity sighed.

"Hey, don't you remember our plans?" Roman asked, trying to distract her.

He could imagine the smile on her face. "Which ones? We've made a lot of them over the years…"

The way that she coughed broke his heart.

"About getting married with a big, old ceremony. Surrounded by all our friends and family."

"We haven't even decided on a venue or a date."

"So, we'll do that as soon as you come out of this safe. We'll pick the prettiest location and hire the best photographer. Hell, we'll have a flower guy so that people can post Tik Toks about it online."

"Chocolate cake?"

"The most chocolate and a fountain to boot."

"Where are we going to go for our honeymoon?"

"Where do you want to go, baby girl?"

She hesitated, coughing. "Japan has always been a place I want to visit."

"There you go, Trinity. We'll go to Japan for a long honeymoon and see all the sights. Everywhere you want to go, we'll go."

"And after?"

Roman grinned. "We'll start working on a family. Settle down. Buy a house."

His girl laughed though it hurt that it ended in a coughing fit. "You've always wanted a big family, Roman. I remember you wanting maybe six children?"

"We can have as many children as you want, baby girl."

Trinity's form moved against the window. The flames seemed to only get bigger and the smoke darker. Roman could feel the heat coming off the building and hated it. He could only imagine how Trinity was feeling right now, being caged inside that inferno.

"I want eight," she said, bringing him back to reality. "Eight boys."

"Nah, we have to have at least two girls. So that there's a chance that they look like you."

She let out a nervous, choked laugh. "Why on Earth would you want them to look like me?"

Roman felt his heart swell. "Because you're the most beautiful woman I have ever known. Every time I look at you, I see a small glimpse of heaven and I fall in love with you all over again. I'll never think you don't look beautiful. Even on your worst days."

"Charmer." She sighed and he watched as she hit her palm against the window. "I wish I was out there to kiss you…"

"You'll be out here in no time," Roman said, not sure if he could be reassuring enough. "We'll have a cuddle party when we get to my place. We'll order pizza and gorge on ice cream." He snapped his fingers. "You're lactose intolerant."

"Yeah, forgot that, didn't ya?"

Roman smiled. "I'll remember to get you lactose pills after this."

"Thanks hon. You take real good care of me." She coughed loudly. "Roman, it's getting hotter in here. I can't…I don't know how much longer I can stand it."

"It's going to be okay, baby girl. They're working on getting to you right now. I promise, they're working on it."

Trinity coughed. "Hon, you're going to have to call the bosses. I may not be able to make it to work after tonight…"

Roman took a step forward. "Don't talk like that, baby girl. You're going to make it to work again. Beat all your opponents and make the WWE Universe proud. Just like you always do."

Trinity was silent for a long moment and then he heard the loud roar of flames. "Roman! There's – there's too many flames in my apartment…make them hurry…" She cried out. "Oh god! The floor is giving!"

Roman moved closer to the apartment but the police that were containing the scene kept him back behind the safety line. "Trinity! Trinity, be calm…" He pulled the phone away from his ear to speak to one of the officers. "Please, help her! Get her out of there!"

"We're working on it, sir," the officer said. "But I have to ask you to stay behind the line."

Roman looked up at the window again and saw the form of his girlfriend standing in the window. "Trinity, baby girl, please hold on. We're working on getting to you."

"I know, hon…I know…" She coughed weakly. "I can hear action outside…reminds me of the ring…" The phone crackled. "I can almost hear the sounds of the crowd now…"

"No, no, baby girl. Don't listen to it…Pay attention to me. My voice on the phone. It's just me and you until the firefighters come up there to get you."

"So faithful…"

"Always, for you."

"I love that about you," Trinity told him. "I love…so much about you." He could hear the tears in her voice. "I don't know what I did to deserve you. You're so kind hearted…"

"I love you too," Roman murmured, feeling his heart crack. "Please, just stay with me. Don't give up. Fight. Please."

The firefighters reached their ladder up to Trinity's apartment window. As he watched, the man broke the window and a huge ball of fire belched out of the new opening.

"NO!"

OOOOOOOOOOO

Roman sat in a sterile hospital room, hands clutched between his shaking knees. His eyes were trained on the bed where Trinity laid, attached to machines. She was burnt, blackened by smoke, and unconscious. The monitor tracking her heart beat kept reminding him that she was alive, but not present. She hadn't shown any sign of waking up since being admitted.

"Please, baby girl," he whispered, tracing her body with his gaze. "Please, just wake up and stay with me. I will never let you go again. I promise, just wake up."

The machines beeped morosely and Roman dipped his head.

"Please, please just stay…"
