Molly's POV:
It's finally reaping day. I've been looking forward to mine ever since I was a little kid. I smooth out my red sundress and brush through my slightly wavy medium length black hair. I look perfect since I need to look my best for the capital, though I quite like dressing like this. I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen with my head held high. "Morning mother". She looks over to me and smiles.
"You look wonderful dear are you ready" She asks. I
nod. "Perfect I just know you'll win, your knives never miss"
"They don't" I laugh.
I grab a piece of toast and sit down at the table. I hear my little brothers in the background. Caspian is 9 and Laurence is 11 so neither of them are eligible to be reaped though district 2 never sends tributes younger then 16 these days, there's always older talented volunteers.
"I'm heading out now, mother I love you", I call as I leave the house.
"Bye dear" She calls after me. I step into the street and begin my long walk to the town square. We live on the edge of town so we have a further walk then most but that doesn't matter to me. I arrive at the square and line up to get signed in.
Winona's POV:
It's reaping day and I wake up earlier then usual. I end up going for a long run and it feels empty, like nothing. I feel like screaming. It isn't fair that I don't get to volunteer. A least I'll be better suited for next year but it'll be a long wait, 365 days.
I arrive back at my house and my parents have already left. That's been the usual with them ever since Molly was chosen. I've disappointed them and myself. I head up to my room and grab a yellow blouse and a black skirt. I style my brown hair down and messy like usual and start my walk to the reaping area. My family lives in the middle of town, and I arrive at the town square.
I line up to sign in and I hear someone arrive behind me. They bump into me and I stumble forwards. "Hey watch it you brat" I shout as I spin around coming face to face with little miss perfect. "If it isn't little Molly".
"Oh Winona, I didn't see you there, I thought you were a peasant"
"You little bitch"
"Language Winona there's children around"
"Next" the attendant calls.
"Later Winnie" Molly calls as she blows a kiss at me as I walk away. I stick the middle finger up at her. After I sign myself in I stand in the waiting area and I see Molly enter and immediately get crowded by girls it made me want to puke. The mayor and escort stepped up and began their little speech's and I listen intently.
Molly's POV:
I watch the escort step up to the glass bowls from the crowd of girls and wait for her to call a name. "For the male tribute Jordan Blake" I watch as a little fourteen year old blonde boy steps out of his section.
"Are there any volunteers" She asks in her sweet voice. Every year she asks this and every year there are volunteers. It would be more efficient if she just skipped choosing a name in my opinion.
"I volunteer as tribute" a voice calls out. I watch as Luca steps out of his section and approaches the stage standing there with his head up.
"Alright dear what's your name"
"Luca Flores"
"Alright well may the odds be ever in your favor Luca Flores. Now to choose a female tribute. Lilliana Caroline Gendry"
Winona's POV:
I look up as a small mousy haired redhead approached the stage. My hand half raised. I knew what I wanted to do. I so desperately wanted to raise my hand and yell I Volunteer. But I can't because if I did I would be looked down upon and my parents would be even more disappointed. Stealing someone else spot is frowned upon and I don't want that. No matter what I can't do it. I lower my hand and watch as Molly volunteers. I look at her being escorted away as I leave.
Molly's POV:
"I volunteer as tribute" I call out loud and clear. I watch as Winona lowers her half raised hand. I approach the stage with a skip in my step and turn to face the escort. "My name is Molly Anderson and I'm going to win." We shake hands.
"And hear we have it. Please give a round of applause for our two tributes Luca Flores and Molly Anderson"
We get escorted off the stage to a black limousine and I turn back and watch Winona leave. I turn away and enter the car. We drove down to the justice building and I was taken to the third floor. I lounged around on a couch as my parents and brothers, my friends and my coach visited. Then I got a visitor I never expected.
