"Ok, I'll tell you." Dean then shifted in his human form.
The wolves prepared for what Dean was about to tell them.
"This started months ago. I went to sleep one night, and ,the next thing I knew, I would be surrounded by fog. I screamed for anyone, but no one yelled back. I then saw a light shining through the fog. Before I could do anything else the fog turned red, and I was really scared. The fog rushed me and I woke up. A few days after, I had the dream again, but this time, I saw what was coming through the fog. I thought that they were big dogs. They didn't look normal to me. They looked like I was looking at them through a water. I only saw fuzzy shape of them, so trying to point out key features were out of the question. The red fog caught me again, but this time, I heard it laugh. I can never forget how horrible that laugh sounded. I never thought a laugh could scare me so much, but this one did. I had it a few days after that, but I was able to see the big dogs again for a longer time. The fog laughed again, but this time it said something after. It said one word, and I was terrified. It said die, and it came at me again. The next dream happened a month after last one. I knew it was the dream, and I tried to wake myself up. I yelled and pinched, but nothing woke me. I just continued yelling. I didn't care what I was seeing. I just wanted it to end. The fog spoke to me, and said that it was pointless for me to yell, and that no one can save me. I told my mom, dad, and uncle, and they said that it may be trying to tell me something. I wanted it to end and my Uncle offered to give me a shot."
The wolves looked at him confused. Dean then understood why.
"A "shot" has many meanings. The one my uncle was talking about was putting something inside me to make me feel better, like medicine, or something else to heal me. Another meaning is when a human shoots a gun."
The wolves expressions changed back to them intently listening to Dean's dream.
"I didn't want the shot because the last shot I had made me feel weird for a little bit. I also started having my nightmares after that, so I didn't want a shot. My mother put a spell on me to block them, and it worked...for about a month. I thought they were done with, but I fell asleep one night and it came back. I saw the big dogs, and they were clearer this time. I could tell what they were now. They were wolves. I could see their shadows, and then he showed up. He showed me something I don't ever want to see again."
Dean then took his finger and began drawing in the dirt. The lines painted a picture for the wolves. They looked down and saw eyes staring back at them. Dean then lifted his finger and looked down at the drawing.
"They are red, or I guess a shade of yellow or brown for you guy's. I saw that in that dream. It was looking at me through the cloud. It lunged at me and I woke up screaming. Everyone came into my room, and I told them what I saw. My mom and dad laid down with me, and my uncle looked disappointed. He looked down at me and said he was so sorry. That was the last time I had that dream at my home. I had it again after I saved the pups. I got to see the wolves longer this time, and I felt calm around them. I was not scared. They began to disappear and I wanted them to stay because I knew what came next. I told them that I would protect them, but they still left, and the cloud came back. It told me that they were killed by him, and he was going to get me next. The dream continued to happen with small changes. The wolves will become clearer, but I still can't tell anything about them that I can recognize. The cloud talks more and more after each dream. The last few were the worst. I saw less of the wolves, and more of the cloud. I don't know what it is, but I finally saw his face."
Dean took his hand back into the dirt, and he began to draw. He drew pointed ears, and long canine teeth.
"Oh...Dean," spoke Kate in shock.
"It had a tail like a wolf."
Everyone was in shock. They didn't expect Dean's nightmares would be this bad.
"So...that is why I have been tired. I have been dealing with that monster in my head. The last thing it told me was that it was going to take over my body, and my powers. I am going to do whatever I can to prevent that."
"How are you going to do that," asked Stinky.
"When my family finds me, and I am home, I will find a spell, and I will try and get cured. Now, after all this, I would like a dri-. Before he could finish his sentence, he was enveloped into a hug by Kate, then Humphrey, and finally the pups.
"I am so sorry you have to go through that," said Kate.
"You are one tough pup," said Humphrey.
"You can beat this, we know you can," said Runt while Stinky and Claudette nodded.
Dean just sat there he didn't hug back. They let go and Dean smiled.
"I am at a loss of words. Thank you for that. I really appreciate it. I need a drink."
With that he began to exit the den. He stopped dead in his tracks when he looked to his right. He saw everyone listening in on his conversation. Eve, Winston, Tony, Garth, Lilly, all of them were there.
"Uh...hi," spoke Dean.
Everyone awkwardly waved at him.
"Well, this is...awkward, so I am going to just leave," his hand motioned to the group.
"This whole situation." He then started walking through them, but he was stopped by Eve.
"You can beat your nightmare," she said and hugged him.
Each and everyone of them said something reassuring to the pup, even Tony. He made it out of the group and thanked everyone. As he walked down to the river, he couldn't help but wonder.
"They really care," he thought.
He made it to the river, and got his drink. He looked at his reflection. He saw his parents mixed together. He saw little bits of his father, and little bits of his mother, but when he turned into a wolf pup, he didn't know who he looked like. His fur was yellowish white, and his eyes were bright blue. He saw his father in wolf form, but he was completely White with green eyes, and his mother was white with blue eyes. The blue showed the guardian power. They shined like blue diamonds. He never saw another creature with those eyes, other than his family.
He was so caught up in his reflection, that he didn't notice a second reflection forming behind him. The reflection lifted a paw in the air and prepared to swing. Dean saw the paw, and he quickly dodged it. He turned and saw the owner of the reflection. It was a bear, but not just any bear, the same bear that Waya blinded in one eye. Dean looked the bear in his one good eye, and the bear's eye grew wide in shock. It then quickly bolted away from Dean.
Dean's heart was racing. He quickly ran to the den. He was breathing heavily and sat down by the entrance. Everyone was in there. Humphrey spoke once he noticed Dean had entered.
"Have an eventful drink buddy," he said. He noticed Dean was sweating, and huffing and puffing.
Once Dean caught his breath, he spoke.
"Oh no, nothing too eventful you know, the water was nice and cool, the usual bear encounter, everything was just great."
Everyone was up and listening when he mentioned bear. They ran to his side, and checked on him to see if he was hurt. He then told them how the bear saw his eyes and ran away from him.
"Are you sure you are ok," asked Kate.
"Yes, I am not hurt."
"Wow Dean, I guess Waya saved you again," said Runt.
"Yeah, I guess he did, or that bear was just a wuss."
"I don't know, you can be pretty scary when you want to," said Claudette.
"Do you have an example?"
"When you saved Stinky, Runt, and I."
"Oh yeah, yeah I can be a pretty convincing ghost."
"Yeah, I think those hunters would agree," said Stinky.
Dean chuckled at that remark
"Yeah, I bet they would. I had them running for the hills."
"Dean, would you care to tell us your side of that story," asked Kate.
"Uh sure, So here I am walking in the forest, eating some berries, and I hear three voices screaming for help. I get closer, and see that two poachers with one carrying three pups. I thought of a plan to draw their attention away from the pups long enough for me to cut the pups out of the net. I threw rocks at each of them, and they got mad at each other. I thought it was funny. I then made it really foggy. They couldn't see a thing. I then appeared in front of them looking like a ghost, and I told them to release what they have taken, or they will be stuck here forever. I heard it in a movie once, so I tried it, and boy did it work. They began running away from me, but not before I cut the pups out of the net. That's about all I did."
"The pups said they saw a mountain lion, and a wolf. Would you care to explain that," asked Tony.
"Oh yeah, I made a mountain lion and a wolf appear next to me."
Dean then did the same thing in front of everyone.
They all looked surprised at the spectacle. The creatures disappeared, and Dean smiled.
"I can never get used to that," spoke Humphrey.
Dean shifted back into a pup and sat down.
"That's how I saved Runt, Stinky, and Claudette."
"Wow, so you scared those poachers away," said Humphrey.
Dean just realized, that he actually scared two adult men.
"Yeah...I guess I did, but to be fair, they acted like two little kids. That is saying something coming from an eight year old.
"You're eight," asked Winston, surprised.
"That's right, I am eight years old. Humans age slower than wolves."
"I understand," he said.
"Well Dean, before you came in, we were talking about spending the night, at the leaders den. We would just spend time together, and have fun," spoke Kate
"That sounds like fun. I hope you enjoy it." Winston cleared his throat.
"Uh Dean, we are inviting you too."
"Oh, really!"
"Yes,"
"Uh, thank you for inviting me."
"You are welcome." Eve then spoke.
"Good, then it is settled, tomorrow after the moonlight howl, everyone will meet at the leaders den," said Eve.
Dean was confused, out of all his time of being here, no one mentioned to him a moonlight howl"
"Uh, what's that?"
"Oh, that's right we never told you. The moonlight howl is a time where wolves get together and howl with a partner, and everyone has a great time," explained Humphrey.
"Oh, that sounds nice."
"It is. Maybe your folks can bring you back with a date, and then you can actually find a spot and howl with her."
"Maybe."
"Yes, maybe one day, but tomorrow, you pups are going to spend time with Winston and I until everyone else gets back from the howl."
