Hey everybody, what's up! To those old and new who remember Lilgrimmaple's We're Back: Sam's Story. It's back and better than ever! I've even been granted permission by the original author herself to adopt this story. So like my previous work Silver and Gold, I'll keep somewhat of the original material intact while changing and adding new things to give out a new take of the story until I finish this.
On the plus note, I don't own any of the characters of We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story or the character that Lilgrimmapple created, those go to their respective owners. However, I'll be adding my own OCs in this story.
Now, let's start to roll back the rock and turn back the clock. 'Cause it's time to see the return of...
We're Back: Sam's Story
Prologue
A little ten-year-old girl with black shoes, blue jeans, black shirt, and a blue coat was huddled in the corner inside a costume closet. She had already curled onto herself, bringing her knees close to her small body and her hands over her head, clutching her natural short platinum blonde hair by the locks in shaking fists. Her crystal blue eyes were already red from her silent crying while she could hear an elderly male old voice say, "Sam, where are you?" Her eyes shut tight as she mentally prayed for this old man to go away. She was more scared of him than anyone else she could imagine. Unlike the uncanny horror masks that sneered at her as they hung from the coat hangers on strings or the costumes that hung with them, they didn't scare her, not one bit. She knew that they were harmless, but the old man was not.
I'm probably getting ahead of myself, why don't we turn back the clock a bit so things can probably make sense.
Ahem, the girl you just witnessed about a few seconds ago, was none other than Samantha Lynn Neweyes, or Sam Neweyes for short. She was born on June 28, 1978 with her single father, after her own mother died when she gave birth to her. For years, the two of them have grown close together, and her father knew that she was a very special child. The reason why was because in 1983 at the age of five, he noticed her reading some magazines, then much to his astonishment, she began reading the newspapers. Then in 1984 at the age of six when he returned home from work, after leaving his daughter in the care of a young babysitter, he noticed her reading a book about advanced math which was above her reading average of either fifth or sixth grade.
Seeing her act like this, reminded him so much of his father, which of course he told her all about him. She learned about her grandfather Professor Neweyes, a famous inventor in his elderly years whom she visited several times in her life. She even saw many of his inventions, even his newest one: Brain Grain cereal. It sounded odd at first as to why her grandfather would make such an invention, but her grandfather told her he had his reasons. Speaking of reasons, both her grandfather and her father had a little discussion while she was curiously looking around at so many inventions. When their discussion came to an end, they sat down and told her what she wanted to do in her life, and her answer became this…
"I want to learn."
As if her grandfather knew she was going to say that while her father had a strange feeling that she would probably say that, they both told her that next year she'll be taking school which she immediately felt happy about because as she already said, she wanted to learn. Before she began her school year, she began visiting her grandfather whenever the chance struck, due to the fact that her grandfather was always busy and didn't have time to visit. So, it became the other way around for the elderly man. But whenever she visits, she wants to learn other things from him, be it like reading his books or understanding his creations to be a step-ahead of everything.
However, when she asked him what he wanted to do in his future, he told her that he wanted to get something back to the world by giving wishes, but when he asked her what she wanted, her answer was just a shrug as she had no idea what she wanted in the future. Her grandfather told her that one day when she's older, she'll find what she'll be looking for.
When school finally began for her, she became one of the few top students and the youngest out of them all to reach that of seventh grade level. Even the teachers and school staff were beyond impressed and thought that she would have a very bright future ahead of her. In fact, she had already planned ahead on wanting to graduate school, then go to an advanced college. Which of course for her, it'll probably happen in just a few short years. Everything seemed that it was planned-out just the way it was for her.
...However...fate had other plans for her in the year of 1985 at the age of seven.
The first thing that happened was that Professor Neweyes had suddenly disappeared, right off the face of the earth. Sam and her father had no idea what became of him, and the police did everything they could to find him. But for almost a year in 1986, the police had dismissed the case and believed the professor to be dead. However, both her and her father knew that deep down he wasn't dead. Unfortunately for the second thing to happen, just a few months after the case was closed, her father died in an automobile accident when he was on his way to pick Sam up from school, leaving her orphaned at the age of eight. Normally under different circumstances, she would have been adopted by her grandfather. Which of course you already know, as I've already explained, that would be impossible for her. However, things took a different turn for her when she met her great-uncle.
Sam would recall being appalled by her great-uncle's appearance when he first came to the foster home after he learned from the foster care about the death of Sam's father and the disappearance of Professor Neweyes, his brother. When she first saw that his left eye was already gone and replaced with a metallic screw, it made her feel uncomfortable just by looking at it. In fact, no one would blame her, if anyone else saw that metallic screw for an eye, children would probably get scared and adults or anyone who was still young would probably feel uncomfortable as well. The metallic screw is what gave him a name by which he preferred to be called by...Professor Screweyes
She even remembered that his organic eye glared down at her with disdain, deeming her unworthy of his precious time. It was perfectly clear that he did not want her. To be honest, Sam didn't want him to take her either. She'd thought that he would turn around and leave, just so either someone else like a foster family or maybe another next of kin would claim her. But much to both her astonishment and shock, he sat down to fill out the paperwork, officially claiming her as his ward. To put it in better perspective for Professor Screweyes, he was claiming her as a piece of property.
Sam did not know what to expect from her new life. She still didn't know anything about him, even after she learned from the foster care that she had a great-uncle. Not even her father or her grandfather even told her about him. What she never realized was that they had good intentions on not telling her yet until she was older. However, what she definitely did not expect from her great-uncle, was that he was a ringmaster for a circus. An eccentric circus to be exact. She expected some sort of home, like a mansion perhaps since he was dressed fancy, but she'd never thought that she would live with a traveling performance group with a collaboration of tents and trailers. The circus wasn't a typical circus either. It didn't contain beautiful ballerinas, charismatic fire eaters, death-defying performers, or magicians with illusionary special effects. There was also no jolly music, friendly clowns, or bright colors. The circus itself looked dark and dreary, seemingly haunting with so many crows here and there that laid perched, and almost eerily empty with the exception of the actors and workers who lived here while said actors were dressed up as ghouls, monsters, and what-not.
She avoided any of the unfriendly glances sent her way by an occasional passerby as she looked and saw anyone giving her a kind look. However, she noticed that behind those kind looks, they were telling her to get away from here while she still had a chance. As she continued to drag her Hello Kitty briefcase behind, she couldn't help but appreciate the circus' Halloween-like theme. Though Halloween only occurred annually once a year. This sort of circus was open all year around. She even became fascinated by the costumes that the actors wore as she already studied about costumes and how one makes and wears one can make something so breathtaking. Speaking of costumes, she herself likes to enjoy wearing them. Only if it was around Halloween or if her great-uncle suggested, and she would love to dress as Cinderella, Pikachu, a vampire, Wednesday Addams, or maybe a female superhero and what-not.
After showing her to a small tent that was set up just for her, Professor Screweyes hands her a dusty old sleeping bag before informing her that dinner would be served in an hour. Sam asked her great-uncle when she would return to school, and he answered her snidely as if he was speaking to an idiot, "We are a traveling performance group. There's no point for you to return to school." With that, he left her tent and proceeded to ignore her for the rest of the week. That was how Sam liked it. No one happened to bother her as they were too busy rehearsing and preparing for the next show.
Sam used that time to explore the capital city of New York before she left the city, since she hasn't seen most of the city all her life. She spent most of the time in a public library reading some textbooks that she recently found to continue her studies, then she began roaming around the bookshelves to find something else to read. Her most favorite place to visit was the Museum of Natural History. The old lady, Dr. Juliet Bleeb who worked there, welcomed her with open arms and allowed her free admission whenever she visited. For Sam, it seemed like the old lady knew her as if she was expecting her, for reasons Sam did not know or explained how.
The girl of course wished she could return to school, often when she passed through the park on her way home. She could see kids her age laughing and running around with colorful backpacks around their shoulders. Sam desired that she wanted to make friends around her age. So far, she's already made adult friends, not because they were interested in her for academic reasons. It was because they saw something unique in her that they wanted to support her in whatever way they could. Nevertheless, she still wanted to at least have an actual friend.
However, speaking of friends, there was one friend that she did make in the circus. It wasn't human though...but a crow. Sam couldn't understand or explain why, but there was something different about this crow. Unlike the other crows she's seen that remained perched and barely did anything, almost like they were watching and waiting patiently like vultures, they didn't even seem interested in her...All except this one. Sam didn't seem to care as she did play with it as it played with her as well. She even managed to feed it behind her great-uncle's back, and even managed to pet it. Despite not having an actual human friend that she hoped for, at least it was a start.
Unfortunately for poor Sam, after the show came to an end and she had to say goodbye to New York City, her home...things took a turn for the worst a few weeks later.
When her great-uncle noticed that Sam seemed to handle fear well, especially around such a young age, he used her as his personal guinea pig to fuel his horrific inspirations for his circus shows. Everyday and every night was a different torment with scares. It was becoming a little hard to figure out what kind of surprise scare he would throw at her. Not to mention, she couldn't climb into her sleeping bag without checking it thoroughly for snakes and spiders. Of course, she couldn't deny that they were interesting creatures to study. But she was grateful that her great-uncle didn't put anything that was poisonous. At least she hoped he wouldn't as that would've put her in the hospital.
Sleeping became even harder for her as ghastly shadows clawed at her tent, whispering horribly that they were going to get her and were cackling cruelly at her frightened cries. She tried to drown them out by placing her hands over her ears and shutting her eyes. Every morning she felt awful as she was exhausted with dark circles under her eyes, and she could barely keep herself awake without risk of collapsing. She tried her very hardest while also trying to keep her guard up in case her great-uncle used any new scares for her to go through.
However, one night things took a different turn for her when those ghastly shadows came back. She tried to blurt them out by zipping herself inside her own sleeping bag, but then there came a slight screaming from more than one person and feet running away from her tent. At first she thought that there must've been a real monster that scared someone away and it was now coming for her next. Instead, she felt a hand rubbing the side of her body in a friendly manner. Now, she wasn't sure who it was she saw due to the shadows concealing whoever it was. But she could've swore that she saw a young boy no bigger than her age as he said to her, "Go ahead and get some sleep. I'll be watching you tonight."
She wasn't sure who he was, but exhaustion finally overcame her as she finally got some rest. For the first time since she arrived here, she could finally rest in peace without anyone trying to scare her.
Then one morning when she finally felt relieved in having a good night's sleep, she wanted to find this boy and thank him. Strange thing it was, he was nowhere to be found. The odd thing about it was, was he really there last night or did she just imagine him because she was sleep deprived? Either way, she didn't pay attention as that crow greeted her by landing on her shoulder and nuzzling her face, making her giggle as it seemed that this crow wanted to start the morning good while she petted it. Now again, she wasn't sure who that boy was she saw last night, but decided to put it out of her mind. At least for the time being.
Since she had no one else to talk to, she decided to console the crow by telling it a lot of things that's happened to her. It felt strange to her as she needed someone to talk to, but the crow seemed to understand her as she told it she was getting fed-up with her great-uncle and anyone who's helping in tormenting her as she can't stand another night of staying up in being scared. She couldn't even think straight as she needed an idea. Be it like a sign or something.
Well, it seemed she got her wish. While she was sleeping peacefully, she heard that same voice from before whispering into her ear saying, "Sam, get them back. The crow will help you."
"Get...back…" Sam said as she sighed. "Crow...help…"
"Yes, the crow will help. They always tormented you. So now it's payback time as what goes around comes around."
"Crow...payback...what goes around…"
"What goes around comes around."
"What goes around…"
"...comes around," the voice said in an almost short whisper. "What goes around comes around."
"Crow will help," Sam's eyes started to open. "What goes around comes around." Her eyes widened and a gasp came as an idea sprouted. Sitting up, she said with excitement, "I got it!"
As the morning finally arrived, her plans were set in motion.
Everyday became a new day of pranks whenever one of her great-uncle's workers tried to scare her, or better yet, even her own great-uncle. Thanks to the help of her crow friend, she was able to pinpoint each worker, where they lived in the circus and what they did. She even remembered one time when she put super glue on her great-uncle's top hat, and when he tried to take it off, it became so hard that one worker tried to help pull it off, but instead ripped off the brim and they had no choice but to cut it off with scissors, leaving his forehead with some fibers stuck on his head which took days to remove. Leaving marbles under a doormat for someone to step on and literally slip. Putting some cocolax on some of the workers' deserts, causing each of them to constipate for several hours. Even going as far as emptying some of the workers' contents and replacing them like nasal spray, mouth wash, toilet cleaner, and the works, just so she and her crow friend could either get a glimpse or hear their reactions. To that even placing pliers on either a battery that she had to borrow or a generator with cables so she could put it on someone's chair, door, or what-not, and watch as they jumped and their hairs fritzed up.
She even set up a system with the crow as it will watch her from above. Whenever a worker or her great-uncle had any attempts to scare her, the crow would give out two caws to be prepared or warn her for what's up ahead. And if the crow ever found out from either of the workers or great-uncle on what sort of plans on wanting to scare her in whatever way possible, the crow would give out three caws to be prepared and start her counterstrike. This system worked all the way till the end of 1987, and things started to turn around a bit for her.
However, in 1988, just a few months later, things started to slow down with all the attempted scares and pranks...then once again took a turn for the worse for poor Sam.
One day when she was out looking for her crow friend, she couldn't find it, almost like it just disappeared. At first she thought it must've been playing with her and it'll just give out a caw and land on her shoulder. But out of pure horror, she saw the one thing that no child should dare ever see…
Nailed to a piece of wood in a cross fashion like a crucifix, was the crow, her only friend. The moment she saw this, she grabbed the sides of her head and screamed, not noticing a single lightbulb popping and a single crow jumping and flapping its wings slightly from surprise. This was just too cruel for poor Sam as she couldn't figure out how her great-uncle figured out her relationship with this single animal who she would call friend, would do this to it. The moment she saw her only friend like this, it broke her heart into two. But that wasn't the worst to come, even though her tormentors didn't make their move at first. However, something changed one night, something that not even Sam's smart mind could handle…
She began to see monsters, real ones. It frightened her so badly every night, that she was too scared to even be alone. She couldn't check every corner without some other monster jumping out right in front of her and cackling evilly at her and chasing her to whatever place in the circus to hide. She was trying to tell herself that this wasn't real, they couldn't even be real. Maybe somehow her great-uncle created those things to scare her and those performers were using that to trick her so they could frighten her out of her mind and that there was no real danger at all.
Eventually it came to a point when this was too much. Losing her only friend was painful enough, but to actually see real monsters when she can't even tell what was real and what was not anymore. She had to get out of here, she had to run away and get as far away from this place as she possibly could.
Now, this is the part where we left off in this story. Where Sam was hiding away from her great-uncle.
Pressing her ear to the closet door, Sam could hear that her great-uncle's footsteps were fading away. Eventually she could hear him leaving the trailer and she let out a sigh of relief. Reaching for her pink Hello Kitty briefcase that held all of her belongings, she slowly creaked the door open. She peeked through the cracks, making sure she was alone. When Sam didn't see any signs of life in here with her, she pushed the door open further and cautiously creeped out. There was no noise aside from the ticking of a clock that read 8:45 p.m. She had to make this escape work.
Sam made her way to the exit door and slowly opened it. It was deathly silent and the cold autumn air howled ominously. Gulping heavily, the girl stepped outside, not bothering to close the door behind her. As she stayed close to the shadows, due to many of the lights turned on, she kept her eyes peeled for anyone who would try and find her. However, as she took another turn, someone spotted her as a bright light of a flashlight that was looking around the shadows was shining at her face, blinding her temporarily. She gasped and blocked the light out of her eyes with her hand before someone shouted, "There she is!"
Without wasting a second, she started to run with her heart swelling with absolute fear. She could hear the sounds of feet running after her and terrifying shrieks of laughter as she was being chased. A scream was lost in her throat as black clawed hands tried to grab her from the front, but she dodged that person and scurried around. "Come back, sweetheart! We won't hurt you!" A mocking voice called out behind her as she ignored it.
She was just about out of the circus grounds and in the forested park when her hand was tugged backwards and yelped. She whirls around to see that one of the circus performers had grabbed her briefcase. "Let go!" She yelled as she tried to pull her briefcase free from his grasp, but the performer sniggered, his heavily tattooed and pierced face made him look more monstrous than a simple mask.
"You're not goin' anywhere,'' he hissed with a perverse grin. With a sharp tug, the briefcase split open, spilling out all of Sam's clothes and books. At the same time, Sam had let it go, causing the man to fall backwards onto the ground with a shout.
She was about to abandon her items and run into the park, but was caught and picked up by another performer, causing her to scream. "Gotcha girlie!"
But then...a crow began cawing as it started to scratch the performer's face, making him scream in pain as he dropped Sam. She crawled away and turned around as she saw the crow continue to caw and use its claws to scratch the performer's arm. Her eyes widened with absolute shock at what this crow was...It was her friend! But that's impossible, she saw it nailed to that cross! When that thought crossed her mind, she started panting with absolute fear as she thought that this crow must either be a different crow or maybe a ghost. Unfortunately, she knew deep down that neither of that was true as she could tell just by looking at it that this was the same crow that she called a friend.
While the performer's arm and face bleed slightly, he yells by saying, "Help! Get this thing away from me!"
The other performer stood up while saying, "Don't worry, I got it!" He tried swiping it away, but the crow cawed as it landed on his head and started pecking on top of the performer's head. "Ow! Ow! Get it off!"
While the performers were trying to get the crow that was attacking them, neither of them noticed that the lights started to flicker. Sam started to scream with absolute fear, then a spark came from one of the lightbulbs. POP! Then like a machine gun being fired, more lightbulbs began popping as the two performers covered their heads from the shards of glass and the crow that was attacking flew away from them as that spark continued to dance here and there, popping more lightbulbs and causing all the other crows to caw as they flew away from their perches spooked. The spark then splintered off as it touched concession stands and rides, causing them to explode in showers of sparks on some parts of the circus that started to catch fire, then the rest of the lightbulbs were completely destroyed as it left no electrical light except for the fire that was occurring.
Sam didn't know what happened just now, but she didn't have time to think as she got up and ran, not even daring to look back.
The two performers were about to go after her, when a voice stopped them by saying, "Let her go!"
The two men looked behind to see the tall and thin figure of Professor Screweyes, who was dusting away the shards that were on his tophat.
"But sir!" One of the performers said.
"Can't you see that this place is starting to catch fire! Go help the others to stop it before it spreads!"
Not wanting to be told twice, they went ahead to help all the workers and performers to stop the flames before it got any worse.
After they left, Professor Screweyes put his tophat back on, then turned his back. Before he started walking, he looked back to where Sam had left as he said calmly, "She'll be back, there's no place for her to go." He started walking away while adding, "Everything that belongs to me returns eventually."
He knew that someday Sam would come back, as he had no need to worry about that. However, the only thing he had to worry about was not only canceling the show, but he had to ensure that the repairs to his circus were fixed. Unfortunately, that would take a great deal of money as that right there infuriated him to no end. All that rehearsing and planning for tonight's show, had all gone to waste in a single night.
Sam continued to run until she had no idea where she was. However, while she continued to run, she was caught by some branches. She yelps as her eyes are showing her ugly crooked hands with nails as they were grabbing her coat. Pulling away, she kept on running until she came across a tree with a hole in the center. She screamed as she saw the tree that had evil looking eyes and the hole becoming a mouth as it wanted to swallow her whole. Running away from that tree, she wanted to try and get away from anything that looked like a monster, but everywhere she turned there were eyes staring at her as they wanted her.
Suddenly without warning for poor Sam, her foot was snagged by a protruding root and she was sent flying forwards with a cry. The ground before her disappeared and she tumbled down a large hill. She tried to skid to a stop, but gravity had her rolling out of control. Twigs, rocks, and brambles tore at her skin and clothes as she fell. Her hand reached out to grab onto a branch but it snapped with a crack.
She came to a stop at the bottom and she just laid there on her side sobbing. Letting out all her frustration, pain, and fear out all at once in muffled screams and bitter tears. She wondered why would she have to go through all this torture? What did she ever do to deserve this? None of it didn't make any sense anymore. Her thoughts turned to other things like:
Why couldn't she be adopted to a different family?
Why couldn't her grandfather be the one to take care of her instead of that cruel insane man?
It just wasn't fair! All she wanted was to have a nice home, a warm bed with someone tucking her in and kissing her goodnight, but none of that came to pass. Sniffing heavily and rubbing her eyes with her dirtied and scratched up hands, she said, "I wish you were here, grandpa. I wish you were here right now." She knew it was pointless to make a wish as wishes never ever came true.
Then...something in the air began to rumble and the trees began to groan and sway as a sudden wind began to blow over them. Startled, Sam jerked her head upwards to the sky, her eyes widening. A glow shone through the treetops and lights scanned the ground as if searching for something. At first, Sam thought it was a helicopter, but as it neared, she realized that it was something more like a spaceship. A giant metallic bronze spaceship with massive wings!
She was so amazed at this giant contraption, the sight of this floating ship was far more incredible than she had ever seen before. The flying machine hissed as it slowed in for the landing, letting out steam as it neared the ground. It didn't touch the floor however and simply hovered in place before its bottom opened up with a warm yellow light coming from the inside.
Standing up and brushing herself off, she barely registered the mess she was in. Her hair was disarranged, her jeans and coat were slightly torn, and her face and hands were completely covered in scratches while her right knee was bleeding slightly. All she could focus on was a man floating down to the ground on a giant platform with something small flying over his shoulder as she couldn't tell what it was. She stayed still as he walked off and was walking over to her. The girl narrowed her eyes as she tried to get a glimpse at his features since the light from behind him shaded his front. When he was a few feet away from her, he stopped as Sam finally had a good look at him...and her eyes widened with complete shock.
Standing before her was a short old man with white hair on his head while he was balding on the sides, a fluffy white mustache, and brown eyes. He was wearing a brown buttoned-up shirt that was tucked into his tan jeans, dark-grey coat, and blue shoes with white at the soles. This old man was none other than her grandfather, Professor Neweyes.
Sam's lips quivered as she said, "G...Grandpa?"
Professor Neweyes smiled at her and said, "Hello Samantha, I heard your wish. Though I already planned ahead on wanting to take you away since my brother has been doing a poor job in taking care of you."
Sam lunges forward, surprising the professor as she hugged his waist, wanting to know if this was real. When she felt him, she started sobbing as her grandfather pets her hair, gently brushing the leaves off her head. Then there was buzzing and a voice saying, "Aww, don't cry, kid. At least you're reunited with the Captain."
She grew confused and looked to see whose voice that was...Only for her eyes to widen and gasp at what she's seeing.
Flying in a jetpack with a small propeller on its back, was a small green martian with suction cups for ears and three fingers. It had a bubble on its head, no doubt it's helmet, and wore a white collared shirt and grey shoes with white at the front. It waves at her and says with a male voice, "Hi there."
Sam yelps as she goes to hide at her grandfather's hips. She takes a peek and doesn't see that small creature, but when she looks on the other side at her grandfather's back, she gasps while hiding her face as he said while cringing, "Ooo, jumpy aren't you?"
Professor Neweyes gave a small chuckle as he rubbed Sam's head and said, "It's alright, Sam, there's no need to be scared. This here's Vorb, he's a friend. He's both my co-pilot and helper within my ship."
"Got that right, Captain Neweyes," Vorb said while he saluted and added, "and proud to be an employer and partner under you, sir."
Sam was confused when Vorb called her grandfather a captain. What really confused her was that he wasn't fazed that Vorb was an alien. "Um, grandpa. You do realize that it's uh-"
Her grandfather nods at her.
"And he's uh-"
"Mm-hmm," her grandfather nods his head at her again.
Sam goes to Vorb and narrows her eyes curiously at him. He giggled at her and said, "Curious little one, aren't ya?"
She couldn't help but admire Vorb's form. In fact, there hasn't been any evidence of alien life or any contact with said alien life. Better yet, it felt like that of a science-fiction book or movie as they depicted a lot of different versions of what aliens looked like. But never before has she seen a small alien. "Wow," she said. "I thought aliens looked a bit…" She raises her arms. "Well, this big."
Vorb chuckled a little at her enthusiasm and said, "Well, that is technically true. There are other bigger species across the galaxy that are bigger than me." He crossed his arms. "Though I don't mean to pry." He buzzes around her to get a better look at her cuts and torn spots as she looks here and there, watching him go. "You're a mess, kid. You definitely need to get fixed up." When he noticed the bleeding wound on her leg, he hissed through clenched teeth while pointing at it and saying to the Captain, "That right there needs to be cleaned up immediately before that gets infected, Captain."
"Don't worry about that, Vorb," Captain Neweyes said. "That will be taken care of soon, but first…" He bends down to Sam's level as he says to her, "Sam, before I take you away from here, will it be alright for you if you stay with me?"
Sam's eyes widened when her grandfather offered her a place to stay, and on a ship no less.
"Just know that I will do whatever I can to-"
He didn't finish as she lunged at him again and hugged him. "Please, grandpa," Sam said. "Please take me with you. I wanna leave right now."
Her grandfather smiled as he returned the embrace, then picked her up as he carried her over to the platform. As the platform was floating back up to the ship, Sam said to her grandfather, "Grandpa, there's something I don't understand. You disappeared so how-"
"I will answer them all accordingly. That's once we get you fixed up."
The bottom closed up and the ship started to take off. It's massive wings took to the air as it soared towards the night sky. However, a crow was perched on a branch as it watched Sam be reunited with her grandfather and had now left with him. It's beak smiled knowing that she's free...at least for now. It took to the air and flew back to the circus. Where it'll wait for Sam's return.
