Chapter 1: The Girl and The Dinosaur

1994

At a golf course on top of a building, someone managed to hit a golf ball with a golf club, sending it flying far until it landed close to a clear patch where the hole was as a flag was near it. Sitting on a golf cart seat was none other than Sam, now fifteen years old as her hair was tied to a bun and was wearing a pink jacket, white shirt, and a green skirt. Over her eyes, she had a black pair of sunglasses while on her lap she had her bookbag and a composition book that she was writing on as she was finishing her homework. Right next to her, who was now starting up the cart to go in the direction where the golf ball landed at...was a male orange dinosaur with four black stripes at his back and he was a T-Rex.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. Weird why a vicious looking dinosaur was playing golf and was with Sam nevertheless. To add-in the weirdness of it all, he was here in the twentieth century. The orange T-Rex had a white cap on top of his head, white collared shirt, and had purple shades over his eyes. Making this even more strange as he looked intelligent, acting like that of a human no less.

As he was driving the golf cart, it didn't take more than a few minutes to arrive just as Sam finished her homework. He got out of the golf cart while it creaked as his weight came off it, and watched as he hummed, doing a little dance and tossing his golf club into the air and catching it, and going straight towards the golf ball. He twirls his club around and tosses it into the air again and catches it again, then bumps the golf ball forward. The orange T-Rex continues to hum, shuffles his feet forward, and goes towards the golf ball, ready to bump it again with his golf club.

However, Sam took off her sunglasses, looking up as she noticed a small blue jay bouncing on a branch with another blue jay who was bigger was watching it as the bouncing blue jay said in a male Brooklyn-accented voice, "Expect a postcard from someplace warm. Miami, maybe Cuba. Arrivederci, Mama!" The male blue jay jumped off the branch and his mother gasped as both her and Sam watched as that small blue jay was falling down and down while screaming, until he landed on his bottom right on top of the golf ball. Sam quickly put her stuff aside, puts her sunglasses in her pocket, and got up quickly as ran towards the T-Rex saying, "Wait, careful, there's-"

Her warning came too late as the T-Rex bumps the golf ball, after the small blue jay saw his reflection from the golf ball he was on. He tries to keep his balance while the golf ball is rolling, then screams slightly as he lands inside the golf hole. The golf ball bounced and was about to land on his head, but he moved out of the way, sighing in relief. "Aww, are you okay?" Sam cooed as she picked up the small blue jay.

"Hey! Hey!" The small blue jay protested while flapping its wings trying to get away from Sam's hands.

With all that fluttering around, Sam almost drops the small blue jay, but the orange T-Rex calmed him down by saying, "Whoa there, little fella! Don't give Sam a hard time, she's just tryin' to help." When the small blue jay stopped fluttering around and calmed down, he looked at both the human and dinosaur while the T-Rex bent down and asked him, "Where'd you fall from?"

The small blue jay glared as he got into a put'em-up position and said, "No place, just leave me alone! Both of you!"

"No place?" Sam giggled then turned her attention to the T-Rex, "Did you hear that? He said he came from 'No place'."

"No place?" The T-Rex had an odd look in his eyes. "No place?" He uses his golf club to move his shades up as he looks up and notices the older blue jay perched on a branch. "Never been there," he nods.

"So what's your name, little guy?" Sam asked the small blue jay.

"Buster," he answered her, but then he grew confused. "Hang on, ain't you a human?"

"Of course," she answered with a smile. "Born and raised as one."

"Then how the heck are you able to understand me?"

"Well, that's a long story on that note."

She offered the blue jay to the T-Rex, which he then picked up Buster using his golf club as he placed him on his snout where the bird would see him through eyes-link. "So, Buster," he said. "Don't you have a mom somewhere that's probably worried about you?" He moved his shades forward while looking at Buster's mother and winked at her with Sam looking at her and waving as Buster's mother sighed in relief, knowing her son was safe with those two.

Buster giggled and answered, "Yeah."

The T-Rex pushed his shades back, he raised his golf club and was about to hit the golf ball. But before he could do that, Sam tapped on his side and pointed at a tree, then made a hand butterfly while flapping her hands and muttering, "Caw. Caw."

He winks at her, then swings his golf club, sending a small patch of earth along with the golf ball towards the air as that small patch of earth landed on a small pond where the other golf balls were while scaring away a single fish with a small splash, then the golf ball lands on top of the tee nail where it was still attached to that small patch of earth.

"What made you want to leave your nest?" Sam asked Buster. "Was it because of your mom and dad giving you a hard time or something?"

"Nah, it was my brothers," Buster answered her. "They always pick at me 'cause I'm always the chick to my parents."

Sam nods in understanding while the T-Rex dusts away some of the dirt and grass that was on his golf club and asks him next, "So, what're ya gonna endeavor to do now?"

As both he and Sam were walking towards that pond, Buster answered by balancing on his wings, then hopped as his talons grabbed the brim of his cap as he dangled there while saying, "I'm gonna run away and join the circus."

"Oh, the circus, the circus. Now, you're talkin' sense."

"Doesn't that remind you of anything?" Sam asked while giggling as she was reminded of a memory from months before.

The T-Rex gave a small chuckle as they arrived at the pond and he answered her, "Oh yeah, Sam, it does." He raised his golf club, ready to swing. "The circus is an ocean with some spice." He swings his golf club with enough force to send not one, but a lot of golf balls towards the tree that Sam pointed at as some of them landed inside the tree, scaring away some crows that were perched there while some of the other golf balls landed on the ground as they bounced.

Sam giggled at this, then a male voice said from above, "Hey, watch it!"

Buster looks up and notices a black bird in the air while Sam cups her hand and says, "Well, next time don't try and stalk me. You know I can sense you from way over here."

The male bird chuckles slightly in a rather screechy kind of a way as he dives down to Sam, who she raises her arm as a crow lands and says to her, "Aw, c'mon Sam, I wasn't stalking ya. I was just waiting by that tree with my other feathered friends until you came around."

She rolled her eyes at him and said sarcastically, "Sure you were."

"Hey, who's the raven?" Buster said.

The crow looked at Buster and glared at him, then he flew to the T-Rex's snout and said to him, "First of all, kid, I'm not a raven, I'm a crow. Enormous difference between them."

"Well, first of all," Buster firmly retorted, "my name's not 'kid', it's Buster. And second, whatever, they look almost the same to me." He looks at the black bird at him down and up. There was something...unusual about this one. Now, from Buster's perspective, he's seen ravens and crows, and both of them not only had black feathers but also had black beady eyes. But this one had green eyes which seemed...a little odd. "Call me crazy…" He crossed his wings. "But you don't look like either of those ravens or crows, aren't ya?"

"No," he answered Buster with a nod. "But you ain't on some ordinary overgrown lizard." He looks at the T-Rex and adds, "Uh, no offense, big guy."

"None taken," the T-Rex shrugged.

"So, whatcha guys been talkin' about before you slung a lot of those golf balls at me?"

"We were just talking about how Buster's going to the circus now that he's left the nest." Sam answered him.

"Really?" The crow eyed at the small blue jay who was looking over the side of the T-Rex's snout with curiosity. "Is that so?" He gives a small chuckle. "He kinda reminds me of a certain tough kid who wanted to join the circus. Isn't that right?"

"Oh yeah," the T-Rex agreed to the crow. "Sam and I know a little fellow who ran away and joined the circus."

"Yeah, and look where that got him," Sam sighed as she hadn't forgotten that memory from months before. "We were just lucky we had some friends in low and…high places." She giggles at that last part.

Buster was a bit curious about this creature, since this crow did mention this thing. Now, he has seen some humans come and go on this golf course, and he did remember seeing one small human carrying a picture book. He couldn't read since he was still young, but he did ask his parents what that was and they told him that it was a dinosaur book. However, thinking back at that one picture, this creature looked exactly like a T-Rex. Pulling up the mouth slightly, he noticed the teeth looked exactly like the picture he saw, except these teeth looked blunt and not sharp. Despite the ferocious feature that this thing had, could it be what he thought this thing could be to him?

Sitting down on its snout right next to the crow, he asked it, "Say, ain't you a dinosaur?"

The T-Rex smiled at him and answered, "Why, yes. From tooth to toe, I am."

"Then what the heck are ya doing playing golf?"

The crow rolled his eyes and said to Buster, "Isn't it obvious? He's a smart dino. Am I right, big guy?"

"You got that right," the T-Rex agreed to the crow while he and Sam arrived at a small sand patch right next to a tree where a golf ball was at. "I'm one smart dinosaur." He takes off his shades and cleans one of the lenses with his arm, then he folds one of the temples and places it on the front of his shirt as he lets it dangle there. "But...I wasn't always."

"You weren't?" Buster had a confused look.

"Oh no, Buster, he wasn't." Sam said. "He was wild back then."

"Oh, I was more than wild, Sam," the T-Rex said to her while the crow flew to the tree and perched himself on one of the branches, and the T-Rex used his golf club to lift Buster towards the same branch the crow was on. "I was stupid and violent."

"You did?" Buster says.

"What did you expect?" The crow said. "He was born in the wild."

"In the late Cretaceous period," Sam added. "That was around when his kind still roamed the earth before all the other dinosaurs went extinct. Long before any of us were even born."

"Seriously?" Buster became shocked from that. "If they are all extinct, then why is he here?"

"Like I said, Buster, that's a long story. But do you remember how you were back then?"

"Oh, I hadn't forgotten, Sam," the T-Rex answered her. "I was a real terror then, and I hadn't forgotten the first time when you and I first met."

"Yeah…" Sam shuddered as she recalled that memory from months ago. "I hadn't forgotten when you almost made me into dino chow."

"That was because I was a real animal to you back then, and I was hungry...all the time."

Both Sam and the T-Rex thought back on the day where they first met, and how their lives changed on that fateful day...forever.

1993

Several Months Earlier…

(Somewhere in the late Cretaceous period millions of years into the past)

The next five years of Sam's life was nothing short of incredible. Her grandfather took her all throughout Earth's history and future. She had visited China's Han dynasty and even shook hands with the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley. She even watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on it's opening night and met the big man Walt Disney, the man who created what was called: Disney Magic. She learned the joy that came with wifi and the IPod, and even that of DVD's that made VHS tapes become obsolete. And most of all, she didn't have to wait for the next release of a movie or a book.

She even learned the reason why her grandfather disappeared. It was because he believed that his genius gift of inventing advanced technology was meant for good, and he couldn't use it to its full potential if he remained here. He even told her that he invented not just one but two of his greatest inventions in his life. The first invention he made was called "The Wish Radio". Back then, it was just a prototype, but after it was completed he found out that one receiver that he got came all the way back in the 1930s. Hence his other reason that he created his own flying time machine so he could traverse through the outskirts of time and space, and finally achieve his lifelong goal of getting something back to the world by granting wishes. Even after he left them, he told her it would be hard for him to return back to his time, because the world was not ready for this kind of advanced technology that he alone possessed.

While Sam simply enjoyed her new life of time traveling and helping her grandfather answering wishes, she couldn't help but feel empty inside. As strange as that sounded, Sam wanted to return to school. She wanted to make friends around her age. However, something in her mind clicked. Ever since she started going to school, her father was still alive. Now that he was gone, something finally made sense. If she hadn't chosen to go to school, then maybe her father would still be alive. Worst of all, even though she made a new friend named Vorb, the constant reminder of what happened to her other friend the crow was still etched in her mind.

She still couldn't figure out if that was the same crow or not, but the bottom line was that the seed of lingering fear of losing someone was already planted in the back of her mind. Since then, she hadn't made another friend other than Vorb during those last five years. And everytime she time travels, she constantly sees kids run up to their parents and be greeted with a warm embrace. That reminder became even more painful as it was a family that she barely even had. The only relatives that she knew were her kind grandfather and her cruel estranged great-uncle. While she loved her grandfather dearly, he was constantly too busy to pay much attention to her.

Despite what she lost and gained throughout her life so far. That didn't mean she was still a smart girl. Throughout her five-year stay at her grandfather's flying time machine, she still continued to learn through the books he got from the far future and the past experiences I mentioned. As she already settled-in with a room that had a window where she could gaze out at, a single bed, empty bookshelves, and a desk, she took up her grandfather's side and became an inventor in her own right. So far, she had invented a universal television with a remote which would allow her to keep in touch with the future channels whenever she needed a break from working on her own projects and watch anything on tv depending on which point and time she and her grandfather arrived in. A robotic bug with a tan coating with two golden eyes who she calls: The Robotic Arachnid Little Programed Helper, or R.A.L.P.H. for short, and many other inventions that I can't even name.

However, things took an odd turn for her when her grandfather tuned-in on The Wish Radio. It was then that many young children from the middle future wished to see real dinosaurs, and her grandfather had an idea that he could get their wishes by bringing back dinosaurs from the past and into the modern times. The idea sounded a little eyebrow-raising, especially for Sam. She always believed that dinosaurs went extinct for a reason and that suddenly thrusting them into the world where humans were the dominant species seemed a little sceptical for her.

Nevertheless, this is where the real part of the story begins.

Sam was sitting at her desk, drawing on her blueprint of her next project she intends to work on. She wore her light-blue shirt over a dark-blue overalls and had grey and white tennis shoes. In front of her at her desk laid two computers, one which had letters and numbers cascading downwards, the other was just ordinary. R.A.L.P.H. was currently in sleep mode with all six of his legs curled at his chest, waiting patiently for any order given by Sam, Vorb, or her grandfather. She had headphones on her ears as she had a tape recorder attached to her pocket, listening to Queen: Princes of the Universe. It was something that she bought at an antique store from the far future, much to her own surprise that there was one and why such old things still existed. To which she learned from the owner of that store that sometimes in life it's okay to look back from the past and see what we've learned from our past lives. Not to mention reliving certain decades from the past.

While she was too busy working on her blueprint and listening to music, the door opened as Vorb buzzed through the room and in front of Sam's face as he said, "Hello!"

Sam yelped in surprise, making the pencil she was holding draw a messed-up line while Vorb clutched his stomach and laughed.

"Vorb!" Sam said. "What did I tell you about doing that?"

As Sam took off her headphones, Vorb calmed down his laughter and answered, "Sorry, I couldn't resist, you're always so jumpy."

Sam crossed her arms and said to him, "Didn't I also tell you to knock first before coming into my room?"

"I already did, you just didn't hear since you had those on."

"Oh," she muttered while rolling her eyes. She looks at her blueprint with the messed-up line that she drew as she sighed, "Look what you made me do." She was about to erase it and fix it, but Vorb snatched it out of her hand. "Hey!"

"No need for you to bother with that right now, let R.A.L.P.H. handle that while we need to talk. Speaking of which." Vorb buzzes over to R.A.L.P.H. as he taps on his head. "Wake-up, R.A.L.P.H."

R.A.L.P.H.'s golden eyes came to life as all six of his legs stood at attention. "Yes," he said.

Vorb offers him the pencil while saying to the little robotic bug, "Fix Sam's blueprint while I talk to her."

"Of course, sir," R.A.L.P.H. complied as he took the pencil, then scurried over to where she was working on her blueprint and found the messed-up line.

As he was working on fixing the blueprint, Sam had already pulled out a digital pocket watch, another invention made by her. She flips open the lid, looking at the time to how long Vorb was gone. Much to her shock, it was four hours since she timed it. Looking at Vorb, who buzzed his way back to her, she showed him the time while saying, "Do you have any idea how long you've been gone? Four straight hours! You're just lucky I didn't look at the time so I wouldn't have to be worried sick about you."

"Ah," Vorb waved her off. "You worry too much. Besides, I can take care of myself." He buzzed to the side of her face and gave her a playful punch. "And you, kid, shouldn't be such a worrywart." He buzzed away from her face. "Anyway, we still have to owe our end of the deal."

Vorb was right about what he said. After he, Sam, and Captain Neweyes arrived in the Cretaceous period, their mission was to find some dinosaurs to bring on board the ship. Captain Neweyes suggested they take a pterodactyl first as from what they heard on the wish radio that children wanted to see a flying dinosaur. Sam became first to catch the creature and...Well, it didn't end so well. The poor creature was hurt due to it and Sam putting up a good struggle, and Captain Neweyes along with Vorb managed to get there in time before more damage was done. By the time they got there, they found Sam standing over the creature breathing heavily and sweat pouring over her brow as if she was scared out of her wits. They managed to bring the creature to the medic bay, which was a good thing that Captain Neweyes built that spot inside the ship whenever it was needed, and treat its wounds while feeding it Brain Grain cereal to speed-up the healing process.

Sam barely said a word since that happened, but was ready to get more dinosaurs. The Captain thought otherwise as she needed a breather and Vorb made a deal with her to take a bit of a break and let him catch some dinosaurs, much to her chagrin. However, she knows Vorb, and she even knows he won't take no for an answer. So with that, the deal was done as she waited while timing him to see how long he'll be gone.

Now that he is back, and in one piece no less, she leans back while crossing her arms and saying, "Alright, tell me what's happened so far? Shoot."

"Well, I managed to catch a triceratops and a parasaurolophus." He brings out three fingers. "That's three dinosaurs in total and the Captain wants one more dinosaur before we hit the road." He giggles slightly. "And you're not gonna believe what the last dinosaur is."

"What is it?"

"You're a smart girl, guess."

She rolled her eyes and thought, Smart-aleck. Then she thought for a second and said, "Is it a brachiosaurus? No, scratch that, it wouldn't fit on the ship. So is it a saurolophus?"

Vorb nods his head no.

"No. Okay, how about an ankylosaurus?"

Vorb nods his head no a second time.

"Stegosaurus?"

A third no from Vorb.

She sighs and raises her hands. "Alright, I give up. So what is then?"

Vorb smiled and answered, "A T-Rex!"

Sam's face turned to a "You can't be serious?" look while remaining shocked at the same time.

Why did she have to get roped into this? It was bad enough that she had to deal with a pterodactyl that nearly pecked her face off. Now she had to deal with this. Out of all the things to deal with, she had to go trudging through the dense wet forest to hunt down this man-eating beast. She thought why couldn't it have been a harmless plant-eater. Instead, she had to literally find a full-grown, flesh-eating, titanic Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Brushing aside the shrubbery that got in her way. Her usual overalls and tennis shoes were replaced with rubber overalls and rubber boots while carrying her tranquilizer gun that was shouldered behind her back. She wanted to bring her inventions along with R.A.L.P.H. in case things went south, but Vorb told her not to as ordered by the Captain. This was going to be a bit difficult for her. However, she was lucky enough to carry a flare gun with two cartridges to signal her grandfather, once she catches the T-Rex. It seemed like a simple task for anyone to handle. To Sam, this was no simple easy task.

As she continued her search for the dangerous mammal, Sam heard squawks of alarm overhead. She looks up to see a flock of small feathered microraptors seemingly flying for their lives before it all goes silent. Too silent...and that was never a good sign. The longer she walked, the quieter the swampy forest became around her. That was until she heard rustling and ripping noises ahead. There was even the heavy scent of blood in the air, which made Sam's stomach tighten. She could only hope that she wouldn't lose her breakfast this morning before coming down here. Whatever it was, it was behind the giant boulder.

Carefully and quietly as she could, Sam began to climb. Her foot slipped once, but luckily she had a good grip on the stone. She hears a grumble behind the large rock and holds her breath. The sounds of bones snapping continued and she slowly let the wind out of her lungs. She continued to climb upwards until she was lying on top of the boulder, belly down. What she was seeing before her made her face turn slightly green and the bile to rise to her throat…

It was a dinosaur carcass. To what type it was, Sam didn't know as it was eaten to the point of unrecognizability. Red stringy flesh hung off the ribs and by the smell, it was laying there for a while now with flies and insects swarming around it. But that wasn't the reason it bothered her. No, that was the least of her concerns. What was however, was the enormous creature that was standing with it's back turned to her a good couple of yards away from where she was laying. She could only watch with both horror and amazement as the great lizard gripped the carcass with its immense jaws, held it down with its small arms, violently shook its head, and with a sickening crack, tore a meaty rib off and biting through the bone without much effort.

It took a few minutes for Sam to remember what she was doing here and shakily reached for her gun. Her heart was beating fast with absolute fear and she needed to calm down her nerves as she sang quietly, "Row, row, row your boat…" Normally she would sing or hum to one of her favorite tunes, instead her mind chose something so childish, but she knew it was the only thing it could help calm her down before she loses her mind to fear. "Gently down the stream…" She laid the gun in front of her as she jumbled around her dart pouch for one of her tranquilizer darts. Just one of these could put an elephant to its knees within a few minutes. "Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream…" With unsteady fingers she pulled out two darts and attempted to load her gun but lost her grip as the darts slipped out and rolled down the boulder.

"No!" She muttered as she hastily reached out and tried to grab them, but they fell out of her reach. With the way she was hunched over, the rest of her tranquilizer darts spilled out of her dart pouch as they landed in the swampy water noisily, earning her the undivided attention of a hungry dinosaur. Her breath was caught inside her throat as she froze in place, her hand still reached outwards. She could see herself reflected in the giant's dark, animalistic green eyes. Blood was smeared across its muzzle and its mouth was curled open as it snarled aggressively, showing its glimmering, blood-stained teeth.

Sam hoped that this dinosaur's eyesight was based on the movement from the movie Jurassic Park. Okay, she thought, as long as I remain perfectly still, it can't see me. Unfortunately for her, there was a difference between movie lore and the real thing. That was proven before her as the monster gave a deafening roar. She screamed and scrambled backwards while carrying the gun until she slid off the boulder, right when its jaws snapped down at the rock where she was laying on. She slipped onto the muddy ground on her rear-end, then scrambles to her feet and runs away.

Angered and clearly in pain from biting a rock, the T-Rex roared, rearing its mighty head upward. It tried to find a way around the boulder to follow after the small creature, but large palm trees barred its way. Looking back and seeing that it was stuck behind the trees, the girl gave a smile of relief and slightly slowed down to a jog. Ha! It ain't so smart after all. The T-Rex gave a small growl before turning and walking away, causing Sam to stop to catch her breath. "That wasn't...so bad," she huffed with her hands on her knees.

A growl came from behind her and she looked over her shoulder to see the T-Rex charge headfirst into the trees, breaking them in half.

Her face fell, "I stand corrected," she said weakly and screamed as the dinosaur charged after her. Sam maneuvered herself around the trees, trying to use the plant life as an advantage. But no matter what she tried, the T-Rex didn't lose sight of her. The earth shook beneath its feet, causing smaller dinosaurs to flee as Sam ran past them. Realizing that the T-Rex was gaining on her fast, she quickly digs through her pouch, after already shouldering her gun behind her back again, and pulls out the flare gun while pulling the hammer, then points to the air and pulls the trigger.

This seemed to buy her a small bit of time as the T-Rex took its eyes off of her for a moment as it saw a small ball of fire soaring through the air while Sam put a little bit of distance between the creature and her. That didn't last long as the T-Rex turned its attention back to her and saw the small creature running on the shallow water towards a large tree. She took this as her only window of opportunity to hide in there, and just in the nick of time as the T-Rex snapped its teeth onto one of its roots, barely missing her.

Neither she nor the T-Rex noticed that the flying time machine was starting to descend from the sky above them after seeing the signal flare from Sam.

As the T-Rex bit and tore more of the roots that were sheltering Sam, she quickly pulled up the flare gun and emptied out the cartridge before digging through the pouch and getting the spare cartridge. She loads it into the tube and closes it, then cocks the hammer as she takes aim, just as the T-Rex roared after it tore off the last root, leaving her unprotected as she said, "Bite this!"

She pulls the trigger as the flare was shot right at the T-Rex's mouth. The beast roared in pain as it shook its head, trying to get the burning ball of fire out of its mouth. No sooner had the T-Rex managed to spit out the flare, the bottom part of the time machine struck its head with a metallic clank, causing it to jerk backwards and start to collapse. Sam had only enough time to yelp as she made a run for it, just as the T-Rex collapsed to where she was standing while giving a small snap of its jaws.

When Sam saw the time machine, she immediately raced towards it as it started to land, all the while splashing on the shallow water with her rubber boots with every step she took until she reached dry land. She heard the T-Rex roar behind her as it got up and followed her, but stopped when it saw the time machine. Believing it to be another predator trying to steal its prey, it threw its head up and roared as if it was challenging it.

Sam had her hands on her knees as she was trying to catch her breath as the T-Rex stopped moving. The door beneath the time machine opened up as the tiny green martian zoomed out with a tiny box of cereal called Brain Grain in his hands. "A-ha! A potential customer!" Vorb chirped as he then buzzed to Sam. "Good work, kiddo! Golly good work!"

As Vorb buzzed away from her, Sam huffed, "Vorb...What are...you doing?...Get back here."

He didn't seem to listen as he whistled towards the animal. "Oh, Oh, hello, madam. Oh, sir, this is your lucky day." He gives a jolly laugh as he lands on the ground with the propeller returning to the jetpack as the T-Rex stomps towards him and stops as it growls. Vorb shakes the small cereal box and says while Sam tries to quietly slip away, "Through a lengthy process of random selection," his jetpack activates again as he starts to fly, "your galaxy, your planet, your neighborhood, hold on to your tail now, kiddo. You-"

The foot of the T-Rex stomped down at Vorb who barely dodged out of the way.

"Yes, you have been chosen as the beneficiary-"

The jaws chomped at the martian who dodged again.

"-of a promotional campaign!"

"Vorb!" Sam shouted at him from under the machine. "Forget the pleasantries and let's go!"

"Manners, sister, I haven't even gotten to the best part yet," Vorb scolded before before dodging the T-Rex's teeth again, then smoke came out of his jetpack as the propeller stopped keeping him afloat and quickly pulls on the ripcord to start it up again as he continues cheerfully, "Here, before your very eyes, I have a product."

CHOMP!

Vorb gulped nervously as he dodged another set of teeth and began to fly backwards towards the machine and Sam, continuing his propaganda, "A revolutionary product. You haven't tasted stuff like this before. Brain Grain cereal!" He laughed as he poured some of the cereal into his hand, spilling most of it while giving out a small whistle. "Take one bite, you'll have an idea," he zoomed backwards even further, causing the dinosaur to follow after him until it was right under the glowing entrance, much to both Sam's fear and dismay. "Take two bites, you'll have a hypothesis. You'll be smart! Comes in two flavors, regular or nutty-nut."

"Vorb, enough! Let's get out of here! That thing doesn't understand a word you're saying!" Sam shouted harshly at Vorb.

"We'll be fine and it'll understand soon enough," Vorb reassured her, which only made her freak out even more concerning his safety as he added while muttering and rolling his eyes, "That's only if it's a boy or a girl."

Neither Sam or Vorb couldn't even tell what sort of gender a dinosaur is unless they ingested the Brain Grain cereal and started talking. That was the only known way they could tell. So for now, the little martian will probably just call it either a sir or a ma'am until it eats the cereal. Speaking of which, a pile of cereal boxes were dropped in front of them while Vorb said, "Choose your poison, partner. You're gonna love this! Yes, siree bob!"

Sam shrieked as the T-Rex snapped at them, but they moved out of the way, causing the reptile to only swallow the cereal boxes as the contents flew everywhere.

"Remember your manners, you big-mouthed, jaw-dropping carnivore!" Vorb glared down at the dinosaur as he continued to fly out of the way of the sharp teeth that kept aiming for him. He screamed as the T-Rex snapped at him again before finally getting peeved and grabbing Sam by the straps of her rubber overalls. "That's it! I'm irritated. We're going back to the ship." With unexpected strength for a little guy who was barely larger than her head, he pulled her up into the ship.

The T-Rex roared as it stuck its head in after them and missed Sam's leg after it chomped, earning a sharp yelp from her while the circular door closed shut around the creature's neck and immobilized it. Automatically, the gadgets and gizmos began to click and come to life in the ship as two robotic hands sprung from the ceiling and forced the T-Rex's jaws apart before shoving a spiral steel tube into its mouth as Brain Grain cereal was forced into the beasts throat and had to swallow every pound of cereal.

"Ha! Ha! Lunchtime!" Vorb cheered as he placed Sam down safely where piles of boxes of Brain Grain cereal both small to that of the regular medium-sized ones you see at a grocery store were stored. He takes off his helmet with a pop and tosses it aside as he and Sam continue to watch.

As the two mechanical hands let go of its snout, the T-Rex, visibly rattled and confused, chewed the remains of cereal in its mouth as if it was trying to taste it for the first time before snarling and spitting them out right at Vorb and Sam as she managed to cover her face with both arms at the last second. "Ugh! Ew!" She cried in disgust as she shook her arms to get the nasty wet pieces of cereal off her arms. Vorb was lucky to get the stuff off of him due to his short stature, but he too was disgusted.

The T-Rex's growls and snarls began to lose its ferocity as it seemed to calm down a bit, though it was still lost from whatever was happening around it.

Then...POP! It's eyes widened as it became colorful ripples of pink, blue, and teal. More popping came as it's slitted pupils became small and rounded, and came closer together to its head, giving it more of a self-aware appearance. It's sharply squared head lost its edge, making it look more softer while its teeth remained sharp, though they visibly became blunted. That was when it began to speak its first words in a male tone…"Row…"

Sam had an odd look. Row? That was a strange first word.

"...your boat," the T-rex continued, causing her eyes to widen as he remembered that song. Somehow, she was willing to bet that he heard her singing while in the midst of trying to tranquilize him. He shook his head and closed his eyes as he returned back to his original form for only a short time, but one last pop caused to finish his transformation. "Gently down the stream...Huh?" The T-Rex seemed to be surprised that he talked for the first time. Putting that aside, he remembered those words were actually a song. Concentrating hard, he remembers the lyrics, then he starts over, "Row, row, row your boat."

"What a personality!" Vorb said. "Thank goodness for chrome hunger. It's taken 280 portions of Brain Grain cereal to jumpstart that skull of yours, pal."

"Gently down the stream."

Vorb then looked at Sam and said to her, "Speaking of pals, I can definitely tell you have something to do with this. Looks like you'll get along just fine with this big guy." He nudges her with his arm. "You'll be the best of pals."

"Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream."

As the T-Rex gave them a toothy grin after finishing the song, Sam turned her eyes away from him while sighing, crossing her arms, and saying, "I don't need anymore pals."

Vorb buzzes right in front of her. "That's right, you got both me and your robots since we're your pals." He gives a small chuckle. "But don't let us hog all the attention."

Sam uncrosses her arms and says to him with narrowed eyes, "Oh, yeah. Before I forget, pal." Before Vorb could even blink, she quickly grabbed him with both hands, causing him to grunt as she kept a tight grip on his small body while the propeller from his jetpack kept going. "What's the big idea?!" She shook him. "Sending me out there to face a freaking raging, meat-eating, teeth gnashing, T-Rex!"

The propeller on Vorb's jetpack stopped moving as he grunted and pulled out his arm with a pop. "It's nothing personal, Sam." He shook a finger at her. "We had a deal, remember? Besides…" He grunts again as he pulls out his other arm with another pop. "The Captain needed variety and I can't say I blame him. We needed a T-Rex if we're gonna help the kids."

Her eyes narrowed in anger. "This is outrageous!" She tosses Vorb behind her. "Crazy!"

Vorb sails into the air while backflipping after being tossed by a very angry Sam, and lands in a big pile of cereal that was dumped into the middle of the floor so the machine could suck it up and distribute it to the dinosaur.

"Of all the stupid...dangerous...Argh!"

Sam was so frustrated and angry for not only going through one dangerous situation but two, she started punching the boxes of cereal, causing the T-Rex to flinch. She even started kicking some of the piles of cereal, and even going as far as to stomp on one box until the contents spewed out and the whole thing became flat like a pancake, then was kicked aside.

While Sam was taking all her emotions out on the boxes of cereal, Vorb managed to dig himself out of the pile of cereal as he spit out a few grains that got in his mouth. He fixes the pole of his propeller, which luckily it wasn't damaged, and digs out the small box cereal that was buried with him. The small box was a little bent, but at least it was still in one piece. Dusting himself off of the cereal, he spits out a few more grains before pulling the ripcord and starting up the jetpack. After witnessing Sam stomp on one box until it became flat and kicks it aside, he buzzes right in front of her and says as he spits out more grains out of his mouth, "Geeze...pfft, Louise, sister! Pfft, pfft, take a...pfft, deep breath...pfft, pfft, and cool...pfft, your jets will ya...pfft." Spitting out the last of the grains, he wipes his mouth with his sleeve. "You'll scare the new guy. Who, by-the-way, probably needs a little bit more grain in his brain." He flew over to the T-Rex. "Don't mind her, she'll be back to her old self once she calms down. So how about it?" The martian chuckled as he held up the box of cereal in front of the T-Rex. "Want some more? There's plenty of lunch to go around."

The T-Rex slurped his chops with excitement before snapping his jaws closed over the unsuspecting martian, causing him to shriek and struggle furiously to get out of his mouth while shouting inaudible words for the dinosaur to let him out.

Sam gasped and covered her mouth with both hands after seeing that. She glares at the T-Rex and was about to march over there so she could demand him to spit Vorb out, but the mechanical hand beat her to it as it smacked him upside the head, forcing the little martian out of his mouth as he crashed right at the lightbulb and making Sam wince. The other mechanical hand shook a scolding finger at the dinosaur who simply stared at it dumbly. "Lunch?" He blurted out loudly while giving a goofy smile. "What's lunch?"

Sam's eyes widened, then she smacked a palm to her forehead, making a slapping sound echo throughout the chamber. Honestly, she couldn't tell if the dinosaur was getting smarter or simply de-evolving. Either way, it seems that he needed more boxes of Brain Grain cereal before he was ready to join up with the rest of the dinosaurs.

Speaking of which, it was only a matter of time for Sam to not only see the pterodactyl again, but to also meet the other smart dinosaurs.
