Everything is going great. In fact the wolves and Dean are ahead of schedule. Everyone was happy to be going back to Jasper, even Dean. Literally nothing could ruin the trail, almost nothing. Everyone was walking to the train station and making small talk. Dean then felt something. Like he was being watched. He continued to move, but listened.
"Keep moving, Dean" said Kate in a low voice. "We hear them too."
So they are being followed.
"What do we do," whispered Dean.
"Just pretend we don't suspect anything," began Humphrey.
"How many are there?"
"Two," said Kate. "Just keep playing along, and we'll think of something."
Dean was thinking of something and began to subtly look around. He then saw the glint of something by a tree. Dean continued to walk until he heard something wiz by him, and passed the group. He looked at the tree, and saw a dart from a tranquilizer gun.
"Run," screamed Kate. Everyone began to hustle, but Dean was falling behind for the stuff he had to carry. He continued to run but he heard advancing footsteps Dean then turned into his new form, swung his bag, and it collided with one of the attackers. He fell to the ground, and Dean managed to catch up a little bit. He then realized that the pups began to fall behind. Dean had enough, and he dropped his bags. He then ran at both the attackers before he could do anything, he became ensnared in a net, and fell. He quickly untangled himself and regained his footing. He was then grabbed by one of the attackers and slammed against a tree. Dean looked up to see that the attackers where some familiar faces. They were the two poachers who kidnapped the pups.
"We got you," spoke the heavyset one. He had Dean against the tree.
"Wow, you got an eight year old ghost, congratulations."
"You ain't no ghost," said the smaller man. "We know what you are Guardian."
Dean was a little shocked to say the least.
"How did you-"
"We have been trailing you for months," said the big one.
"Clyde and I have heard many things," said the smaller one. "You may have got the drop on us the first time we met, but now we have new orders."
"Let me guess," began Dean. "You want me to go with you to see your boss."
"Yeah, but if we get you and the pups, then we will get five times the pay," said the one called Clyde.
"The best part is," began the smaller guy. "If you resist, we can use any means necessary to make you comply. Dean then received a punch to the gut. "That was for making us act like fools," said Clyde. "Don't you think he has learned his lesson, Will."
"I think he needs to learn some more," began Will. He then cracked his knuckles. Dean let out a snarl, and closed his eyes. He began to catch his breath and readied for the hit. He had no magic, no element manipulation, and he can only shift into baby animals. Even bugs, but the bug eyesight would be too disorienting at this point. He then heard something that got his attention. "Wolf, Clyde," spoke Will. Dean opened his eyes and saw Humphrey running at the three. Dean then saw Clyde load up the tranquilizer gun.
"No, get away," rasped Dean. "Run away." Humphrey began running in a zig-zag motion. Clyde couldn't get a good shot. He only had a few darts to use, so he didn't want to be reckless, and fire blindly. It was too late to fire as Humphrey was right on top of them. He lunged at Clyde. Clyde fell, and dropped the gun. Humphrey then lunged at Will and bit into his arm. Will released Dean and tried to fight off Humphrey. Clyde got up and ran to help his friend. Humphrey then used Will as a wall and dismounted off of him, and into Clyde.
"Run, Dean."
"But what about you."
"GO!"
Dean then grabbed his stuff and saw Kate running to him.
"We have to help him," said Dean.
"I will help him," said Kate. "Go back to the pups."
" but."
"Go and watch over the pups."
They left no room for argument, so Dean did as he was told, he ran. Just like the night he left home, he did as he was told, and stayed in the camper. He caught up to the pups. He turned back to human.
"Where's mom and dad," asked Claudette.
Dean was about to say before he heard two loud gunshot off in the distance. Dean then held the pups.
"We will wait here," was all Dean said.
"What if they don't come back," asked Runt.
Dean was good at hiding emotions, but not this time. He was absolutely terrified. The wolves that have helped him this whole time maybe gone because he had to come back to Colorado.
"Don't do this to me again," he said to no one in particular.
"Don't take them from me."
He then held the pups tighter. They waited for what felt like an eternity, but it was only a few minutes as Kate and Humphrey ran to join the group. The pups quickly ran to their parents and embraced them in a hug. Dean was left alone, he dared not move out of shock. He looked at the ground, and tried to hold back the tears.
"Dean," said Kate.
"Hi buddy," said Humphrey.
Dean could see that they were right in front of him. He couldn't hold back anymore. He grabbed them into a hug, and held on tight. Tears began to flow from his eyes.
"You idiots," he cried. "You scared the life out of me. Now I know how you feel when I did that. You can't do that. You can't leave me like they did. I don't want to lose my mom and dad again. Kate began to speak.
"Dean we- what did you call us?" Dean then released them and looked at them with tears in his eyes. He smiled.
"I'm sorry I called you guy's that, but...I choose you," he said with tears in his eyes. "I hope that offer to adopt me didn't leave."
This time it was Kate and Humphrey's turn to cry. They both quickly grabbed Dean in a hug. Dean fell over, but held onto them, and they began licking his face. The pups then began to hug him and lick his face. He then sat up and smiled.
"Is that a yes," spoke Dean through the licks."
"Buddy, you just got adopted into the family," began Humphrey. "You can call us mom and dad because for now on you are our son."
"He's right, Dean," began Kate. She still had tears in her eyes. "When we offered you the chance to be in our family, we meant it. The offer never left. You can call me mom because you are my son now. You can call Humphrey, Dad, because he is now your father, and the pups are now your brother's and sisters. She then hugged him. He began to cry some more because the joyful emotions became too much for him, and he held onto his new mother as if she would disappear if he'd let go.
"Ok...mom," he cried. He then ran to his father and gave him a hug. "Ok...dad." He then grabbed all three of his new siblings.
"Ok, brother's and sister, let's get-." Before he could finish the sentence the moment ended when Dean could see Clyde and Will coming up the trail. They were bitten, bruised, and bloodied, but still determined to catch their targets. "Oh no."
Everyone looked to where Dean was staring, and their eyes grew wide in fear.
"We'll get you Guardian," yelled Will. He then pulled out a pistol. Clyde did the same. Before any of them could fire off their weapon. A brown she-wolf grabbed Will's arm and he dropped his weapon. Clyde was about to shoot the she-wolf, but he then felt something touch the back of his head. Clyde could tell it was the barrel of a pistol.
"That would be the last thing you'd ever do," said the unknown man. "Drop it." Clyde did as instructed, and dropped his weapon. The man then grabbed a zip tie from his pocket, and tied Clyde's hands behind his back.
"Talia, let him go," said the man. The she-wolf released will, and the man tied him down as well.
"Talia," thought Dean. "Like Tony's mate?"
The man holstered his weapon and he walked up to the family and they could finally get a good look at him. He was Native American and really tall, about 6'5. He wore a flannel shirt, jeans, and Native American boots. He had long black hair touching his shoulders. The most peculiar feature was that the man possessed one bright blue eye, and one brown.
"Are you ok Guardian," asked the man.
"How do you know about me," asked Dean.
The she wolf walked behind the man.
"A voice in his head told him," she answered.
"She isn't wrong."
Everyone was shocked that this man could understand the she-wolf.
"How can you understand her," asked Humphrey.
"It's one of the many gifts that run in my family," answered the man.
"Does the voice have a name," asked Dean.
"Yes, Waya."
Dean's eyes grew wide.
"Can I talk to him?"
"Yes." The man's blue eye began to glow.
"Hello pup," greeted Waya's voice.
Dean slowly walked up to the man who knelt down.
"How." Was all Dean could ask.
"Before Julius cut my mask, I casted a spell. This spell brought my soul to the last of my bloodline. The one I am referring to is my great, great, great too many great nephew. His name is Tikanni. I have entrusted my job to him. He is very capable of protecting you, and your loved ones."
"Why didn't you tell me they were gone?"
Waya knew Dean was talking about his family.
"I didn't want to trouble you with it at the time. You had one thing to worry about when I found out at the time, saving Runt. I am truly sorry Dean. Does this answer your question?"
"Yes, are you stuck in Tikanni's head."
"No, I am running out of time. My soul will leave his body, and I will join my ancestors."
"Ok." Dean then walked up to the men tied.
"Do you know anything about them?"
Dean got closer to the men.
"Dean, be careful," said Kate.
"Yes ma'am," he answered.
"They are poachers hired to hunt you and the pups. Their leader is unknown to me.
"Ok."
Dean turned around, and began walking back. Little did he know that Will had a knife in his boot. He manage to cut his zip-tie. He swung the knife, aiming for Dean's back.
Dean quickly turned into his new form, and moved out of the way from the strike. He quickly used his claws to cut Will's hand. The cuts were deep, and he dropped the knife. He screamed in pain and held his arm.
All this occurred before anyone could react. Waya ran and knocked the man out. He then smiled at the boy.
"You never did let your guard down."
"You did jam that lesson into my brain, so I eventually figured it out."
"You also have a new form."
"Yes I do."
Dean was then enveloped into a hug.
"I am so proud of you."
Dean returned the hug, but when Waya had let go of Dean, he stayed on one knee.
"My time is running out, I have one last request."
"Anything Waya."
"I wish to hear you sing one last time pup. I know you only sing around family, but I hope one family member will do."
"That's not a problem, Waya. These wolves aren't strangers. They will be my family now." Waya looked at the wolves and smiled. He nodded to Kate and Humphrey. They returned him the nod.
"Thank you, and please take care of him."
"We will," said Kate.
"I know," answered Waya. "So pup, what will you sing me?"
"Well Waya, I will sing Compass by Lady Antebellum."
"That is a good one." Said Waya.
Dean then cleared his throat, took a breath, and started to sing.
As Dean sang, everyone became very calm, and listened to him sing his heart out.
Waya sat down and smiled. He was listening to the pup he helped raise song his heart out to him. He had found his family, and did this on his own. Waya couldn't have been more proud.
Dean continued to sing with no fear. He trusted these people.
Kate and Humphrey were listening to the boy singing in front of them now. He allowed them to hear him sing. He called them family. He called them mom and dad. This pup was now their son.
Dean looked at the pups to see them keeping the beat, and mouthing the lyrics. This made him smile. He looked around and saw everyone smiling and listening to him. He finished the song and looked at everyone around him. He saw them smiling, and congratulating him.
He then looked at Waya.
"Thank you, pup. I am leaving, but know that I will always watch over you."
Dean then gave him a hug.
"Hey Waya."
"Yes."
Dean then hit him in the gut. Not to hurt, but enough to get his attention.
"Always keep your guard up."
Waya then laughed.
Dean held him in the hug.
" Goodbye Dean, I am glad I got to hear you sing one...last...time."
Tikanni's blue eye returned to its normal shade of blue, and he looked down at Dean.
"Dean," began Tikanni.
"I know Tikanni." Answered Dean. He then released Tikanni and looked at him.
"Friends call me Tuffy."
"Ok, Tuffy."
"Oh, and I am not going to call you Guardian anymore, so you can just stop all that."
"Good, I hated it when Waya did it."
Tuffy then laughed.
"So, this is your new family that I must help protect?"
"Well, not all of us, but the majority."
"Would you care to introduce me to them?"
"Ok, follow me Tuffy."
He then lead Tuffy to the wolves.
He pointed to all of his family and introduced them. "This is my mom, Kate, my dad, Humphrey, my brothers, Runt and Stinky, and this is my sister, Claudette."
"Everyone," began Dean. "This is Tikanni, but friends call him Tuffy."
Everyone said their hellos, and Tuffy began to speak.
"Dean, this is my companion, and friend, Talia."
Talia then spoke.
"Hi everyone."
"Excuse me Mrs. Talia," asked Dean.
"Yes, Dean?"
"Do you happen to know a wolf named Tony?"
Her eyes grew wide. She then became sad.
"Yes, I did know, Tony. He was my mate before he died with our son, Garth."
Everyone was shocked to hear this. Except for Tikanni.
"Who told you this," asked Kate.
"A trusted member of our pack, Charles. He told me that most of the Eastern pack was wiped out, so he asked me to join him and his new pack. I told him no because I was traveling with Tikanni, and decided to continue to travel with him. He needed me, and I guess I needed him."
"That sounds really touching," spoke Dean. "But Tony isn't dead, and neither is Garth."
"What?"
"Yeah, Tony maybe old and grouchy, but he isn't dead," answered Dean.
Talia became very serious.
"Don't you dare joke with me."
"It is no joke, Talia," answered Kate. "Tony is leading a pack with my father, and Garth is my sister's mate."
"If this is true, then why did Charles tell me that they were dead."
"When the western and eastern packs united, the alpha and omega mating law was broken," began Kate. "Charles created a rogue pack to try and overthrow the pack, but ,Dean here stopped him."
Talia began to cry.
"Tuffy, my family is alive. She then hugged him."
"I am so happy for you. I guess we better get home, so you can see them."
"You live in Jasper," asked Dean.
"I am getting the paperwork and-" Tuffy was interrupted by a phone call.
"One second." Tuffy answered the phone.
"General," the other voice on the line spoke.
"Yes sir, Jasper National Park."
The voice spoke again.
"Thank you, sir." Tuffy then hung up, and looked at his phone.
"Ok, I am now living in Jasper National park."
Everyone was looking at him confused.
"What?"
"You must have some stories to tell," spoke Dean.
"You have no idea."
"Um," began Runt. "Excuse me, Mr. Tuffy, sir."
"Yes Runt."
"How are you going to get home?"
Dean caught on to what Runt was implying.
"THE TRAIN," he screamed. He looked at the clock to see that they had indeed missed their train.
"Well guy's, we missed our train."
"Well good thing I brought my own ride," said Tuffy.
"Tuffy," began Dean. "Do you think you would be so kind as to take my family and I back to Jasper."
"Well, since I am your bodyguard now, I guess I can be your chauffeur too. It just might be a little crowded."
Dean jumped in excitement.
"Ok Tuffy, lead the way."
Tuffy and Talia lead the way to their vehicle. Meanwhilel, Kate was looking over Dean, and making sure
Clyde didn't hurt him.
"Mom, I am fine," spoke Dean. Saying that felt right to him.
"I know, I am just making sure." Her hearing him call her mom made her smile.
"Hey Dad," asked Dean.
"Yes son," said Humphrey.
"Who taught you to fight. Those were some nice moves."
"Well, after Kate and I got married, she taught me to fight. When she became pregnant, I hunted for stuff on my own as well as got help from the pack."
"Wow, you never told us that, Dad," said Claudette.
"You I guess your dad can hold his own in a fight or two."
"So can mom," said Dean. "I remember when you two saved me from Charles and Drake. I'm pretty sure mom took a chunk out of old Charlie."
Everyone laughed.
"Well," began Kate. "I didn't want him to think he could hurt Dean, and get away with it."
"Well, if you guy's didn't do that, I probably wouldn't be here now, so thank you for that."
"Hey, your my pup, and it is my job to protect you."
"Hey, Kate you aren't the only one protecting our pups," said Humphrey.
"You guy's now have another protector," said Tuffy. "I have been given orders to protect the Guardian and his family, so I intend to follow it."
"I appreciate that Tuffy," said Dean. "I would like to know more about my families protector."
"I agree," said Kate.
"Me too," said Humphrey.
"Well, my full name is Tikanni Akicita. My father held the Amarock gene, and passed it down to me. I was trained to fight at a very young age. SoI became a soldier, and I protected what I could. Due to my prior knowledge of combat, I was already quite skilled in hand to hand combat and martial arts. In just a few short years, I learned all forms of combat. I was trained by masters all over the world. I was also trained in artillery combat and weaponry combat. Once I got out of that, I began to travel. On one of my adventures, I met a brown she-wolf in a cage. She was in a poachers cage. I took care of the poachers and helped the wolf in whatever way I could. When she received horrible news about her family, she decided to continue to travel with me. One night, we were bedding down and my head began pounding like none other, and my eye began burning. I ran to my mirror, and looked to see that my right eye was bright blue. I then heard Waya's voice in my head. He told me to find you, and he gave me an in depth story of our people, and the gifts I didn't know I possessed. That is the most condensed form of my life story. How's that for a resume.
"Well," began Dean. "You are definitely skilled, and you are related to Waya. If you leave your number I will get back to you in five to seven business days."
Tuffy began to laugh, and soon Dean started laughing too. Dean looked to see his family looking at him confused.
"I'll explain the joke later," stated Dean. "Yes Tuffy you have the job of protecting my family and I."
"Good, 'cause we're here," spoke Tuffy.
Everyone stopped and looked at the monster of a vehicle presented to them. It was a massive humvee. Everyone had their mouths wide open except for Talia and Tuffy.
"A little gift to myself when I left the forces," said Tuffy. "Hop in."
Everyone got situated to their liking.
Tuffy and Talia were in the front, and the family piled into the back.
"Ok," began Tuffy. "Let's get this one way trip onto Jasper with small stops or food and pee breaks along the way."
The Humvee roared, and then it began to move. The destination was Jasper, and there was nothing stopping them from getting to it.
