A/N: In this chapter, you find out what Chris and Zeke's relationship is. But I'm going to say it now. They are a couple. I know some of you would rather they weren't. If I'm being completely honest, I would prefer to write them as close friends, partly because I'm terrible at writing romance. BUT, this story was requested by AngelColdHeart, who gave me the details, and this was one of them. As it is quite a big detail, I will respect their wishes and include it. After all, without them, this story wouldn't exist.
FIRST BATTLE
"I need help."
Piper turned around to look at Chris. "Uh, excuse me, this is my bedroom. You can't just walk in here any time you want to."
"Yeah, I know. But your sisters need you. I got them working on the Titans but I don't know how long that's gonna last."
Considering what had happened so far that day, Chris wouldn't be surprised if they were already moping again.
"I thought you needed my help."
"Yeah I do. I need you cause they need you. Actually, they need Leo. Look, can you please just go deal with them!"
"What's the matter, Chris? The all knowing running out of answers?"
"Yes. Yes! If that's what will motivate you then yes! Because I'm watching history repeat itself and no one's willing to do a damn thing about it."
God, he hoped Zeke was having better luck hunting demons.
"Yes, Chris. I can feel your frustration," Piper said, annoyingly calm.
"Piper," Chris said, sighing. "If it helps, I get it. I do. Really. You need Leo. Your sisters need Leo. But-"
"You forgot the baby. The baby needs his father too," Piper interjected.
"Fine! The baby needs Leo too! But if you can't stop missing your husband long enough to see the bigger picture-"
"There is no bigger picture than my family."
Of course not.
Chris was constantly reminding himself that this Piper was not his mother. His mother, while devoted to her family, could see the bigger picture. She would do what was right, no matter what the cost to her family, because she understood what would happen if she didn't. His mother had been toughened by loss and pain. The woman that stood before him had not.
"Well then pay attention! Because in the world I grew up in, families hardly existed. I never got the chance to know mine."
"Not my fault."
"Not yet."
Piper tilted her head. "Is this what it's about? You blame us for what happened to you?"
"I just want you to get it right this time! Use the Power of Three. Use the powers of the Gods. Save the world from going to hell."
"If that's what you want then I will say it one more time and maybe you will hear me. We. Need. Leo." With that, she stormed out of the room.
Gazing at her, Chris knew not a damn thing was going to happen unless he brought Leo back to them. So, against his better judgement, he orbed Up There.
Another faction, Zeke noted, this time, made up of a wider range of demons, some considerably smarter than others. Darklighters, Scavenger demons, Kazis, shapeshifters and Tracer demons to name a few. Zeke was most worried about the darklighters, since there were three whitelighters residing in the manor, and the Titans had already killed most of the Elders.
His athame materialised in his hand and with incredible precision, he threw it so that it struck one of the Tracer demons in the back. The demon fell to his knees and burst into nothingness, alerting the others to Zeke's presence. Some part of his mind acknowledged that all the darklighters had black-orbed away, as did some of the other more intelligent demons, but the majority stayed.
Within a matter of minutes, with a few fireballs and energy balls, a lot of ducking and dodging, and one or two athames, the world had been rid of the bulk of one more demonic faction. Deciding he'd made good progress today, managing to get rid of many demons, even if they weren't the ones he was specifically looking for, Zeke shimmered back to the manor to see how Chris was fairing.
Badly, it seemed.
For one, Chris wasn't even there. When Zeke caught sight of Piper angrily storming around the house, while Phoebe and Paige moped and whined about Leo not being there, he understood where Chris had gone. Even if neither of them particularly liked Leo, and they knew it would be a great risk bringing him back, Zeke knew the girls needed him.
That, and the fact that nothing would happen without him there, since they were completely hopeless when left without their whitelighter.
Well, at least now Paige and Phoebe were trying to do something productive.
"It says here Cronus ate his children to keep them from overthrowing him," Phoebe said.
"What if you lure the Titans to a field, Piper traps them in a tornado and I hit them with my lightning!" Paige suggested.
"I'm afraid there's no way to beat a man who eats his own children," Phoebe replied, throwing the book down.
"Well stories are fables."
Zeke looked up to see Piper and Leo walking in.
"Leo!" Phoebe cried, going up to hug him.
"Welcome home, Leo," Paige added.
Leo, Piper… and no Chris.
"Where's Chris go?" he asked.
"He exposed himself to the Titans. They're probably following his orb trail right now, so we don't have much time," Leo said.
Zeke zoned out as they told Leo what they'd been doing. Chris was being followed by Titans. Chris could easily be killed any moment and Zeke wouldn't have any way to know that for sure. The thought terrified him. He knew Chris could look after himself. After all, he'd been doing just that for years. But the worry was still there.
"See how much this family needs you."
"No. I don't."
Shocked, Zeke's head snapped up at Leo's words. It seemed he and Chris weren't the only ones who were thinking straight.
"You can do this without me. And it's not because you have the power of Gods or the Power of Three. It's because you're the greatest force of good I know, and that's why I chose you to do it."
"Oh, I can feel the confidence wash right over me!" Phoebe said, happily. "See what he's doing."
"What is he doing?" Piper asked.
Leo ignored them. "Paige, you know exactly where to find the power to conquer the Titans."
"I do?"
"Yes. You just need to focus."
There was a moments silence as the answer dawned on Paige.
"We have to declare ourselves as Gods."
"Yes. That's how the ancient Greeks did it."
"But Chris told us not to do that."
"Well Chris was wrong." For once in his life, Zeke actually agreed with Leo. "He doesn't know you like I do."
"But the Ancient Greeks lost their humanity."
"You're not the Ancient Greeks. You're the Charmed Ones. I didn't give you anything you couldn't handle. Phoebe, you lost yourself to one of the darkest loves, but…"
Zeke didn't particularly want to sit through Leo's pep talk, and the sisters didn't need him. Not that they would listen to him if he tried giving them advice. There really was no point in staying, especially since Chris was being chased by a couple of Titans. So he discreetly backed out of the room and, once he was sure no one would see him, he shimmered back to the Underworld.
"Chris, wherever you are, get your ass over here!"
Chris heard Piper's frustrated call, and then Leo's more reassuring one.
"It's okay, Chris."
So he orbed back to the manor, knowing fully well that by then, Leo should have become and Elder, and because he was unprotected, the Titans would be able to sense him. There wasn't much time left, and Chris could only hope Leo had said what needed to be said.
"What the hell is happening to my husband?" Piper demanded.
Taking one glance at Leo, Chris replied, "Something amazing."
"Look, cut the crap. You knew all this was gonna happen. You knew the Elders were going to die and you led Leo right up there!"
"Did you?" Leo asked.
"You can't be serious," Chris said, incredulously.
"Whatever you think you're doing, it has to stop."
Chris would hardly believe the crap coming from his mother's mouth.
"Nobody chose this! It chose Leo. What he did Up There was nothing short of a miracle. Now he's receiving the ultimate reward: a chance to become-"
"Don't you dare say it!"
"The world needs sources of good," Chris reasoned. "Do you know a source of pure goodness better than Leo?"
"No, Leo can't be an Elder. Because Elders don't live on Earth, they don't have families. Just tell him you're not an Elder!"
"I don't know that I can."
"I think you should get back to your sisters," Chris interjected.
"No. Not until you tell him."
"They're waiting for you."
"Chris is right. You need to be there with Paige and Phoebe."
"No," Piper insisted. "Not until you say it."
Chris was beyond furious by that point. Piper, his mother, was going to put her family's life, not to mention the whole world's lives, at risk, over something as stupid as this.
"The Titans are going to be here any minute!" he yelled.
"I said no!"
Before he could register what was happening, Chris felt himself be flung against the wall, and then everything went dark.
When Chris woke, he was alone in Piper's bedroom. He heard noises. Voices. Pushing himself up, he walked downstairs, to find the rooms a mess. Leo was standing with Phoebe and Paige. Piper wasn't there.
"Chris, you're okay," Leo said, relieved, catching sight of the teenager watching him.
He nodded. "Where's Piper? And what happened to the Titans?"
Leo sighed. "The Titans are gone, but Piper… she's gone."
Chris's eyes widened in panic for a second, before he remembered that if Piper were dead, he would have ceased to exist.
"What do you mean gone?"
"She teleported somewhere. We can't find her," Phoebe said.
"Yes. We need to get the power out of her," Leo added.
Chris watched, leaning against the doorframe, as the power left Phoebe's body.
"Are you ready?" Leo asked, looking at Paige.
"Just get it out of me."
The power floated out of her, and she began to look slightly dazed.
"You alright?" Leo asked, concernedly.
She nodded.
"Any luck with Piper?"
"I can't find her," Phoebe said.
"Well you've got to keep trying," Chris said, sitting down.
"Find her, but then how do we bring her back? She's on a power rampage. She destroyed the Titans, not even the Greek Gods could do that," Paige said.
"Well, we better hope she still has some humanity left in her."
"If anyone can come back from this, it's Piper," Leo said. "I've got to go now, but if anyone needs me, Chris knows how to get in touch." He looked over at Chris, who nodded, both ignoring the looks Phoebe and Paige gave Leo. "The Elders have returned to the Heavens and are calling me." With that, he orbed out.
Phoebe turned to look at Chris. "Did he just bail on us? Is that what he just did?" she asked, disbelievingly.
"Uh, what about you know, helping us find his wife?"
"He's trusting you to do that. You need to find Piper and talk her down."
"Uh, maybe you forgot the part about her being Leo's wife."
"Look, you have to understand. Things have changed. The Elders need Leo up there to help restore order."
Chris raised his eyebrows, watching Paige and Phoebe spouting crap. That all ended when a window shattered.
"What is going on with this storm?" she cried.
Paige froze as realisation dawned on her. "Piper…" Then she began listing the reasons as to why it was Piper causing the storm.
Chris was just glad they were finally thinking for themselves. He watched with a growing satisfaction as they realised where Piper must be.
When Zeke shimmered to the manor again, after vanquishing a few darklighters and a group of warlocks, he was glad to see Chris there.
"The Titans are vanquished. Leo's an Elder. The world is safe. For now."
Zeke nodded. "You still gonna get rid of Leo?"
"I have to. It doesn't matter whether or not I want to. He has to be out of the way so I can become their whitelighter. They have to trust me. And I have to get them vanquishing demons."
"They do trust you, Chris. They may not show it all the time, but I can tell."
"Believe that if you want, Zeke. It won't change anything. Now, you should probably get back to the Underworld. Even if the girls trust me, which I highly doubt, they obviously don't trust you."
"Anyone could have worked that out."
Chris rolled his eyes. "Go. We don't need to make this more complicated than it already is."
Zeke nodded, placed a small kiss on Chris's lips, and then shimmered away. Chris remained sat outside for a few moments, before Leo's orbs materialised in front of him.
"So, the Elders decided what to do with me yet?"
"There's been a heated discussion. One thing's for sure. You can't go back to the future."
Relief coursed through him.
"I figured as much. The timeline's changed. I don't even know what I go back to."
The was a moment of silence.
"The Elders voted… to make the Charmed Ones' new whitelighter."
Chris stared, surprised. This was going to be easier than he thought.
"They did?"
"As a reward for helping you defeat the Titans. Though part of me thinks you already know that."
Chris repressed a snort. This was what Zeke called trust?
"You know, I can't stop thinking about what Piper said. This is all part of your plan."
Leo and Chris stared intently at each other.
"Take good care of them, Chris. Don't forget. I'll be watching over you."
Then he orbed out. Chris watched as his orbs grew further and further away, before, with a slightly flick of his wrist, he directed those orbs somewhere else. Somewhere Leo wouldn't be found.
Well, I FINALLY got rid of the Titans. The story should be based less on season 6's plots now, and I'm hoping to include more about what happened in the unaltered future.
