CHANGE

"Grandpa, no!" Chris yelled. He scrambled up from where he'd been knocked the the floor, and ran to his grandfather, trying to push him out of the way. But it was too late. Chris fell to his knees beside Victor, who had been struck by a high voltage energy ball that killed him instantly.

"Wyatt! Wyatt, get your ass here right now!" he shouted, dodging and ducking the attacks that came his way.

Bright, white orbs lit up the room. Wyatt took one glance at his devastated, furious brother, crouched beside a still form. Victor. Dead. Cold and still. Unmoving.

Shaking, Wyatt turned to the demons who had ceased their attack upon seeing their liege appear.

"I told you… to leave. My. Family. Alone!" he bellowed, lifting his hands and telekinetically pushing all the demons across the attic, into the wall that crumbled around them. One by one, they shimmered out, unwilling to face the wrath of Wyatt.

"Is he…" Wyatt asked, hesitantly.

Chris nodded, numbly. Gone. Victor was gone.

The funeral had been a quiet affair. Just Chris, Wyatt, a few of Victor's friends, and Zeke, much to Wyatt's chagrin. In the following days, Chris and Zeke had hunted down and vanquished all the demons that attacked the day Victor died. Together, they had worked on a spell and potion to destroy one of the extremely powerful upper-level demons, only to face the wrath of Wyatt soon after.

"You vanquished him," Wyatt said, simply. "He was my most loyal, most powerful demons, and you vanquished him."

Before either Chris or Zeke could react, Wyatt had created an energy ball and thrown it at Zeke. It hit him in the stomach and sent him flying into the attic wall. Chris took one glance at his brother, before running to Zeke and orbing them out. They both knew something had to be done about Wyatt. He was gaining more and more demons by the day, and the rest of the magical community was falling under his rule, unable to do anything to prevent it. Someone would have to fight against Wyatt, before the whole world went to hell for the second time.

And Chris was the only one who could.

Chris was pacing around the attic. Something was up with Piper. She was anything but chipper. His mother was a pessimist, and Chris supposed that was partly what had kept her alive so long. Now, her chipperness was going to get her and her sisters killed.

The Trok demon had been vanquished, yes, but Piper's powers weren't working properly, and since her powers were tied to her emotions, that was only to be expected. But why her emotions were like this, Chris couldn't fathom.

To make matters worse, he had just got a lecture for not telling the sisters he couldn't heal yet, and been forced to tell them Leo was missing. Now they were at P3 to give Piper that news, hoping it would snap her back into reality. No doubt, when they got back, they'd start looking for Leo, and Chris couldn't let that happen.

"How're things going?"

Chris looked up to see Zeke watching him. "Not good."

"What happened this time?"

"I've just been forced to tell the sisters that Leo is missing! They've gone to tell Piper in hopes that it'll snap her out of her chipperness, and when they get back, they'll start looking for him!"

"Is that a bad thing? I still don't understand why you want him out of the picture."

"Because I can't risk him finding out who I am!"

"And Piper can't find out who you are? Cause that's what you're implying."

Chris walked to the book and slammed it shut in frustration. Zeke had a point, and the truth was, a part of him wanted Piper to find out who he was.

Chris orbed into the alleyway and pushed the young witch to the ground, out of the way of a fireball.

"Athame!" he shouted, orbing the demon's athame into his hand. With incredible precision, he threw it at the demon, hitting him square in the chest, and watching with satisfaction as he burst into flames and disappeared, leaving only a scorch mark on the ground.

"Are you okay?" Chris asked, pulling the witch up.

Dazed, she brushed dust off her clothes. "Yes, thank you. Uh, who are you?"

"Chris Halliwell," he said. "And you?"

"Sasha Wilkins. Thank you, Chris. I don't know how I could ever repay you!"

"Well…" Chris thought for a moment. "I'm starting a rebellion. Against my brother, Wyatt Halliwell. He's growing more and more powerful, demanding good and evil beings alike to follow his rule, killing anyone who refuses."

"I know," Sasha said, glumly. "Two of my friends have been killed by his demons."

"I'm sorry," Chris said. "But to repay me… I'm searching for people. Good beings who are in hiding. Witches, leprechauns, fairies, nymphs, anyone who could join the rebellion."

"And you want me to join?"

"Yes."

Sasha laughed, humourlessly. "I don't know. I want to, I really want to. But I don't know what good I would be. I'm new to the craft, you see, and I've no one to teach me."

"That's okay," Chris said, reassuringly. "I can help you, and I know plenty of others who would be willing to as well."

"Okay then. I will join you and help you."

"Thank you," Chris said, gratefully. "We've taken refuge at Magic School, but I don't know how long it will be before Wyatt finds a way around the magical protections we've placed around it. I've been thinking of putting enchantments somewhere else, to make another safe place. Somewhere Wyatt won't think to look, but I'm not sure how to cloak it completely from him yet."

Sasha nodded, but then her eyes widened as she looked past Chris as saw a demon shimmer in. Chris spun around in time to see a fireball heading their way. He pulled Sasha down and orbed them to Magic school. It was filled with students, teachers, and countless beings seeking safety.

"See that woman over there?" Chris asked. "Grey hair, glasses, looking through the books. Go over to her and tell her that I've, well, recruited you for the rebellion."

Chris pushed her gently in the right direction, before orbed up to Golden Gate Bridge, where Zeke was waiting for him.

"Got another couple for the rebellion," he said.

"I've heard rumours in the Underworld. Apparently Wyatt is getting close to breaking through Magic School's protections," Zeke told Chris.

Chris sighed. "I thought that might be soon. We have to find another safe place. But I don't know how to thoroughly protect an area from Wyatt discovering it. I need the book for that. Maybe a few witches could cause a distraction long enough for me to get in, grab the book, and get out again…" Chris said, thoughtfully.

Zeke stared at him. "You can't seriously be thinking of going alone? Chris, that's suicidal!"

"Well you can't go," Chris said, impatiently. "Wyatt would kill you upon sight. But he won't kill me. He would never hurt me, and that's my advantage."

"There's no use arguing is there?" Zeke asked.

"No. Anyway, I have a plan for how to get the book."

"Great, Paige, you didn't restore her memory. You erased it," Chris snapped, snatching the spell from Paige's hand.

"It's a good spell, I know it is. Unless it interacted badly with Leo's magic."

At the sound of shattering glass, Chris jumped at turned to Piper.

"What happened? How did that happen?" she cried.

"Uh, it's okay. Everything's gonna be okay."

"Just don't point at anything. Keep your hands down. Like this," Chris instructed, grabbing Piper's arms and pushing them down.

Chris watched frustratedly as Paige led Piper to sit down, growing even more impatient when Paige continued on about how to find Leo. He heard the door open and close and Phoebe talking to Piper.

"Uh, Phoebe," he said.

"Just a sec! I think that's what I am now. An Empath. I… am an empath!" she announced. "That's my new power. Or at least an advancement of my premonition power, I don't know."

"Neither does she, I'm afraid. Know, that is. Anything. Paige erased her memory."

"Can you blow things up too?" Piper asked.

Phoebe laughed slightly hysterically. "Oh boy… Paige! What did you do to our sister?" Chris's satisfaction quickly disappeared when Phoebe put her hand on Paige's shoulder. "Oh you poor dear. You feel awful about it, don't you? I'm so sorry."

"Thanks. I think."

"That's it?" Chris asked, incredulously.

"She's clearly devastated."

"But you can't let her off the hook! You need enough guilt to get her to fix it!"

The crystal landed on the map, in the middle of the Indian ocean. "I think I just fixed it. I think we've found Leo," Paige said.

"We?"

"Yep. Wyatt and me. I mean nothing's more important to Leo than him."

"Let's go."

"Go? Go where? It's pointing to the middle of the Indian Ocean!" Chris exclaimed.

"There must be something there, I trust Wyatt."

"Look, this is crazy!"

"Chris, she's feeling really strongly about this," Phoebe interrupted, walking over to Paige. "I have a new power! I'll explain on the way."

"Oh hey, can you take the dogs back for me," Paige asked. "The addresses are in the book." She smiled brightly as she orbed out with Phoebe.

Once they were gone, Chris grabbed the book and went to the kitchen. He pulled out numerous ingredients from the cupboards, and threw them into a pot.

"What is that?" Zeke asked, shimmering in, grimacing from the smell.

"A potion to block my emotions from Phoebe. She's become an empath, and picked up on enough of my emotions already to become suspicious. I can't risk her feeling anything else from me," Chris explained.

"Okay, well where have they gone? Since when did the girls have dogs? And why is Piper looking around cluelessly?"

"That would be because Paige erased her memory."

"Paige what?"

Chris nodded. "Now they've gone to the middle of the Indian Ocean searching for Leo."

"Do you think they found Valhalla?"

"They must have. Then again, I'm not entirely sure where Valhalla would be on a map. I only found it because of Leo. Oh, and could you take the bloody dogs back? The addresses are in the book."

"You're sure about this?" Zeke asked. "I still think it's a suicide mission."

"I'm sure," Chris said, confidently. "Leo and the few other Elders have been no help. Getting the book for us- and more importantly, away from Wyatt- is our only hope."

"Still," Zeke said, anxiously. "I don't like it."

"You don't have to like it. You just have to trust me."

Chris turned around to face a group of around twelve witches. "You all know what you're supposed to do. You all know what the risks are. Provide a distraction for as long as possible, and retreat only when Zeke gives you the signal."

The witches all nodded, some confidently, some nervously.

"Good luck," Chris said.

The few whitelighters that had joined the rebellion took hold of the witches and orbed them to the manor. After taking once last glance at Zeke, Chris followed them. Wyatt wasn't at the manor, presently, and his demons were distracted. Taking a deep breath, Chris orbed to the attic, sure he would encounter a couple of demons there. Surprisingly, there was no one there. Not that Chris could see, anyway. Cautiously, he made his way to the book, hesitantly placing his hands on it. As he did so, he heard footsteps behind him. Keeping one hand on the book, he slowly turned around.

"Hello Chris," Wyatt said. "How nice of you to drop by. I haven't seen you for quite a while."

Chris said nothing, staring stonily at his brother, trying to determine how to successfully grab the book and escape.

"There's a lot of chaos going on down there. All part of a distraction, I assume," Wyatt continued. "Of course, many of them will undoubtedly, by now, be dead." Wyatt took a few steps forward. "You're lucky Chris. If you had been anyone else, either me or my demons would have killed you. As it is, they're under strict orders from me not to harm you." He sighed. "Chris, you can make this easy. You don't have to fight. You can join me."

"Go to hell," Chris spat, flicking his wrist, sending Wyatt flying into the wall. He spun around, grabbing the book and orbing out. But he rebounded off the ceiling and landed back on the floor, the book slipping out of his grasp. Looking up, he saw Wyatt was holding the book firmly in his arms.

"Enchantments around the manor," he said. "The book can't leave the place."

Chris dearly hoped Zeke had signalled for the witches to retreat.

"Oh, all the surviving witches have left. And we saw that damned demon. Zeke, I think he name is." Chris stiffened slightly, barely breathing. "Is it him putting these thoughts into your head, Chris? Is it him telling you not to join me? He's manipulating you, toying with your emotions."

"You don't know a thing about Zeke!" Chris roared, jumping up, and backing away as Wyatt came closer. "I thought I knew you," he continued, quieter. "I trusted you not to hurt me."

"And now?"

"Now… now I don't know anymore."

Wyatt's eyes softened slightly, seeing his brother's inner turmoil. "Chris," he pleaded. "Join me. We can be together again, as brothers, just like how we used to be."

Chris shook his head. "Why are you doing this?"

"The magical community needs a leader."

"A leader? Wyatt, you kill anyone, innocents and demons alike, who is in your path to ruling the community. That's not a leader; that's a murderer."

Before Wyatt could react, Chris orbed back to Magic School. The entire operation had been a failure. He needed to find a way to break the enchantments around the manor. But without the Book of Shadows to assist him, and having gone through every book in Magic School to no avail, Chris could only hope the Elders would help.

"You could have been killed, you know that? What were you thinking?"

"We were thinking about finding Leo, which we actually did, if that matters to you."

"What was up with that skirt he was wearing?"

Chris shook his head. It was like the situation with the Titans all over again. "I don't believe this. It's like neither of you are taking this seriously."

Paige glanced at the dog who had started barking at him. "Hey, do you mind?" Chris said.

"Well, I can't help it if he doesn't like you. You were supposed to take them back home, anyway."

"I tried. The owners weren't in. Besides, the dog, he's your job, not mine."

"I know, don't remind me."

Chris sighed, leaning against the chair.

"Hey, where's Piper?" Phoebe asked.

"I put her in her room hoping it might jog her memory. Since nobody else is trying to."

"Hey, I found it! Valkyries!"

After Paige read what they were, Chris said, "I'll go Up There and fill in the Elders. You go get Piper."

"But Chris, there isn't time. We have to go back for Leo now."

"But why? It doesn't sound like he's in any kind of trouble."

"Only he's stuck in a cage."

"They tried to kill us when we tried to save him!"

"My point exactly. It's too dangerous. You're not going back."

"Wait, let me get this straight. Are you saying you'd rather just let Leo rot there? Is that what you're saying?"

Knowing that arguing was getting him nowhere, Chris said, "You can't orb into Valhalla undetected. The only way to get there safely is with a Valkyrie's pendant. But that still won't get you to Leo. He's too well guarded now."

"How do you know so much about this?" Paige asked, suspiciously.

"I've crossed paths with Valkyries before. In the future. Anyway, I can get the pendants for you but the only way to get close enough to Leo is by proving to the Valkyries you're one of them."

"How are we supposed to do that?"

"Easy. By arriving with a warrior's soul.

"Huh. Easy!"

"Where are we supposed to find a warriors soul?"

"Beats me," Chris said, orbing out.

He rematerialized in an alleyway, watching as an officer fell to the ground. The portal to Valhalla opened and a Valkyrie stepped out. Not one he knew well.

"I'll take care of you," she said to the officer.

"I don't think so. Not this time," Chris said, making his presence known.

"What are you doing here?"

"My plans have changed. The sisters, they found Leo sooner than I would have liked."

"That's not my problem. We kept our end of the bargain," the Valkyrie said.

"I know, and I'm forever grateful. But I can't risk them finding out what I'm really up to. I'm truly sorry."

The Valkyrie watched him with growing realisation as Chris brought up a fisted hand, and telekinetically squeezed the Valkyries windpipes, cutting off the oxygen. When she collapsed, Chris walked over to her and took the pendant, watching regretfully as she disappeared. After alerting the police of the fallen officer, he continued to find two other Valkyries, killing them and taking their pendants.

When he returned home, he sought out Piper in her room, glad that Phoebe and Paige were out collecting a warrior's soul. At least, that's what he hoped they were doing.

"Piper?" he asked, opening the door.

"Chris," she said, cheerfully.

"Do you remember anything?"

She shook her head.

"Well," he said, holding up a pendant. "This was yours," he lied. "Put it on."

Piper took it and hesitantly clasped it. When she did so, her clothes instantly turned into Valkyrie attire.

"What? How did that happen?" Piper gasped, staring at herself.

"It's magic," Chris said, taking Piper's hands and leading her to sit down on the bed. "You were a Valkyrie before you lost your memory."

"What's a Valkyrie?"

"They're a powerful race of demigoddesses. They search battlegrounds for dying warriors, collect their souls and take them to Valhalla, to prepare them for the final world battle. The other Valkyries will be pleased to have you back."

"So I… am a Valkyrie? And I can blow things up?"

"That's right," Chris said. "You have a few other powers too, like telekinesis and apportation."

"Apportation?"

"The ability to teleport inanimate objects. Just remember everything I told you and you'll be fine."

Phoebe and Paige arrived home only minutes later.

"Okay, we got the- oh my God, what did you do to Piper?" Phoebe asked.

"I turned her into a Valkyrie and convinced her she's one too. Actually it wasn't that hard, really, considering her mind is basically a blank."

"But why?" Paige asked, seemingly uncomprehendingly.

"Because you might need the Power of Three to get Leo out of Valhalla, and this is the only way you're going to get Piper into Valhalla."

"Well if Piper ever gets her memory back, she's gonna kill you."

Chris's eyes widened slightly. "Why?"

"Cause she hates wearing those costumes as much as we do."

"Well in that case, you're going to kill me too," Chris said, holding up the two other pendants.

I'm not entirely sure about this chapter, especially not the beginning, since I had writer's block. But I did my best and I hope you like it.
