AN: Sorry for the long wait! I've been working on another Ninjago fanfic idea too, and I hope to start publishing it soon. For now, though, here's a little chapter of this.
Kai huddled in the little cave on the side of the cliff, peering out nervously at every rustle of a branch as if it might be caused by a Serpentine rather than the wind.
"We're good here, right?" He asked Cole, who was leaning in a half-sitting position against the side of the cave.
Cole sighed heavily. "Yeah, we're good here, but only for now. We need to come up with something to do next. I'd thought we'd have a little time to plan once we bombed the Serpentine, but apparently there's more of them here than I'd thought."
Kai frowned, thinking of the ruins of the cabin and the wreckage they had made of the Serpentine there. It made his stomach twist. "Uh-huh. I mean, we got rid of some of them, but there's a bunch more."
"There's a lot more," Cole agreed. "And by now, I'll bet they've found the house. They'll be crawling all over the place. All of our stuff is lost. All of the things we could've used to try to stop them are now in their scaly hands."
"What are we going to do?" Kai wondered.
Cole sighed again. "I don't have a clue. I mean, we're trapped."
Trapped. Kai hated that word. He put his head down on his knees and tried not to break down.
They sat in silence for a few moments, a silence which was only broken by Cole's stomach growling.
Kai groaned, his own stomach stinging with hunger. "Me too. But we've got nothing. Nothing to eat, nothing to plan on, nothing at all."
"Wait," Cole said out of nowhere.
Lifting his head from his knees, Kai looked up at Cole. "What?"
"I might have a plan. It's kind of dangerous, and probably stupid, and really will make Lloyd mad when he finds out," Cole stated.
Kai grinned. "Dangerous, stupid, and making Lloyd mad? Count me in."
