Backstory
Sophia has never known her family, they never bothered to even drop her off at an orphanage and was barely lucky that she was found abandoned in a park and put into the foster system where she bounced from foster family to foster family her entire life that was until she turned eighteen then she was thrown out of her last foster home out straight out onto the street forced to fend for herself.
She quickly moved to Seattle and started working as a waitress in a standard run of the mill shady bar which is her only way to get enough money to barely pay her rent on a really run down and decrepit apartment in a shady part of the town, she hates her life and felt that she'd never be happy but then she met him...
Sophia's POV
I sighed exasperatedly placing another beer down on the bar in front of one of our usual patrons, working here for the past year meant that you started to get to know your usuals and unfortunately the only people that frequented this horrible run down bar were dirty no goods that thought they were entitled to hit on me relentlessly and some even were ballsy to try and lay their hands on me when they were drunk enough and thankfully for me the owner always stepped in with threats to kick them out.
I hated my life, I've had nothing good ever in my life...my own parents hadn't even wanted me and I had been found starving, freezing and abandoned in a park meaning they hadn't even had the decency to leave me in an orphanage, I had been pushed and pulled through the foster system my entire life with each foster family only lasting a couple months at the most when they realised that I wasn't worth the money they got from being my foster family and by the time I turned eighteen I had been in seventy two foster homes over that time...yes I'd counted every single one but they all stopped the moment I turned eighteen and was thrown out into the world to care for myself and I had been for an entire year now which is why I was forced to work in places like this just to be able to afford my rent on my run down and crappy apartment.
"Sophia, go home" Harry told me appearing from his office seeing me still working despite my shift having ended over and hour and a half ago. "You know I can't pay you any overtime and you look like shit" he added making me smile a little.
"I know, this just beats going home" I told him and he chuckled a little.
"Don't lie" I laughed back pulling my waist apron off placing it into my cubby behind the bar pulling out my phone and bag. "I'll see you tomorrow kid"
"Yeah" I left out the back exit looking down either side of the dark alley before I started down to the left, Harry's Bar was in the northern part of Capitol Hill in Seattle and it was past midnight meaning that it was probably unsafe to be walking home but I'd never had an issue so I started the 20minute walk home that I'd walked a thousand times.
I was just passing an alley when I heard someone step out and could distinctly hear their footsteps a few meters behind me which instantly put me on edge mentally cursing myself for jinxing myself but it could be nothing so I sped up a little intending on taking another route and crossed the dead street to the other side but could still hear them behind me so I sped up even more threatening to run at a moment's notice slyly grabbing the pepper spray out of my bag as I looked behind me but found no one there but I didn't feel any better so I started to run ducking down a side alley listening carefully but whoever it was seemed to have given up or I'd been imagining it so I sighed in relief stepping out of my hiding place but that was a mistake as I was suddenly thrown off my feet sailing through the air a few meters before I landed against the ground and I screamed in fear quickly getting to my feet looking around but again couldn't see anyone.
"Who's there?" I called out getting my finger on the trigger of my can of pepper spray ready as I frantically whipped my head down either side of the alley looking for my attacker.
"Boo!" someone laughed behind me but by the time I turned around they were gone.
"What do you want?!" I screamed looking down the alley. "I don't have any money, just leave-" I continued but was cut off when a hand suddenly wrapped around my throat and I was thrown against the alley wall but my attacker was standing in the dark and I couldn't see his face so I didn't wait around to get stabbed and raised my hand pushing down on the trigger spraying pepper spray in their face and they dropped me so I wasted no time sprinting down the alley ignoring the sound of their laughter as the pepper spray seemed to not even affect them. "HELP!" I screamed hoping someone was around to hear me but before I'd made it to the end of the alley I was thrown off my feet again and I landed hard against the ground my head smacking against the pavement leaving a gaping wound and I heard my attacker suddenly suck in a deep breath before a growl.
"You smell..."
"What?" I asked trying to slide backwards holding my hand over the wound on my head as my attacker suddenly stepped into the light and my eyes widened at the sinister and black soulless eyes. "What...wha are you?" I asked but he growled out again before reaching for me and I screamed as he lifted me onto my feet pulling me in close so that I could feel his chest against mine and being this close I was able to take in more of his features, spiky dirty blonde hair, strong jaw and his hands on my arms were ice cold. "Plea...please just let me go"
"Sorry I can't do that" he replied and his voice sounded so musical and mesmerizing, I'd find it attractive if he wasn't trying to kill me. "You smell too good" he added his lips turning into a more intense smirk before he lowered his mouth towards my neck, his teeth shining in the low light as his lips pulled back...was he trying to bite me...what the hell!.
"I prom...promise I won't tell, just...please" I begged mentally scolding myself for sounding so pathetic but everything in me screamed that this man was dangerous, he growled again pulling away from me making me jump back in fear before I felt a pressure on my neck and everything went dark in an instant.
Demetri's POV
I cradled the girl in my arms the instant she was out lifting her into a bridal hold still breathing in her intoxicating scent and at first it had drove me wild with thirst but when I'd gone to satiate my thirst something within me couldn't bring myself to bite her and I growled out looking down at her unconscious form...taking note of her features...she was beautiful...not like Heidi of course but she was beautiful for a human which is what had drawn me to her in the first place as she was exactly the type that I loved to prey on but it wasn't until she'd cut her head was I assaulted with her scent.
It was a mixture of azalea's, vanilla and fresh mountain air, it was euphoric and my throat burned as venom flooded my mouth but I can't bring myself to think about satiating the burn and that angered me and I'd never experienced this in all my years on this earth, I checked my surroundings before I took off an our speed back to the hotel the rest of them were staying in since we were supposed to be investigating the uprise of newborn activity and what we had found was an army heading straight for the Cullen clan but we were intending to let them do what they were being created for before we took action and I had been out tonight to hunt, I never thought I'd be meeting back up with the others hungry, confused and with a unconscious girl in my arms.
I sped my way through the lobby too fast for human eyes to even catch sight of me and walked into Felix and I's room laying the girl down on the bed before stepping to the far side of the room away from her intoxicating scent hastily holding my breath before my ears picked up the sound of a keycard in the door and soon was watching Felix walk in.
"Hey man..." he paused eyes befalling the bed where the girl was laying. "Uh dude, you're not meant to bring your meal home" I growled at him threatened by him calling her my meal even though I hadn't meant to, why was I defending her since she was my meal...or she was supposed to have been. "What's wrong with you?"
"I couldn't kill her" I told him as I began the most unexpected human reaction and started to pace the floor in front of the large bed.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I couldn't kill her, she smelt so good and I tried but I couldn't satiate the thirst with her blood, my body wouldn't let me" his eyes widened a little.
"You don't think..." he started and I looked up with a glare telling him not to say it, I'd thought about what he was going to say but it was just too crazy, there was no way that my mate was a human...my singer.
"Why do I smell human?" we both spun as Alec and Jane walked into our room and they both looked at the human on the bed and I found myself taking a step forward as if I was standing at the ready to protect her from the twins.
"She's Demetri's singer" Felix replied and I growled at him again.
"She is not!" I exclaimed.
"Then kill her" he smirked and the growl fell out of my voice as I turned to look at the girl once again almost begging myself to just kill her but I couldn't. "Example 'A', you can't kill her, example 'B' her blood smells amazing-" my head snapped towards him with a snarl on my lips. "Final example, your protective of her which all leads to one thing, she's your singer mate" he laughed as Alec's eyes moved to the girl a questioning look on his face as he all but studied the girl.
"We'll take her with us, the ancients should have an explanation" Alec finally said and I frowned but knew I had no choice, she'd seen me, my eyes and I couldn't kill her so that only left taking her with us.
"Fine" I spat annoyed with this entire circumstance, it was just one huge inconvenience just like I always imagined it would be.
Sophia's POV
I felt my consciousness start coming back and I groaned with the pain in my head as I lifted my hand up and felt a cloth covering the cut on my head and hissed in pain before I remembered what happened and I was sitting up looking around taking note of my surroundings seeing that I was in lavish hotel room sitting on a large four poster bed with a white lace canopy.
"Your awake" I jumped with a scream, head snapping to the side seeing the same man who'd attacked me.
"Get away from me" I yelled throwing the first thing I had found which unfortunately was a pillow at him and it smacked him right in the face before I stood and ran for the door throwing it open only to come face to face with some huge guy that towered over me.
"Can see it's going well Demetri" he smirked over my head clearly at the guy behind me and I was trapped between them with the hulking guy blocking my gateway to freedom.
"What do you want with me?" I demanded backing up to the wall so that I could look at both of them, eyes staying on the one who had attacked me more than the giant seeing his eyes watching me, his eyes were completely black which was unnatural.
"We don't know yet" he finally replied then turned to the giant, I moved my eyes towards him and took in his features and they widened when I saw the crimson blood red eyes on the big one and they scared me but I could see a slight mischief in them as he stared at me as if I was the most entertaining thing to him.
"Can you please, please just let me go" I begged the tall one and his smirk widened making me frown watching as he approached the one that had attacked me but his movements left the door wide open, I cast my eyes to them quickly before I decided to take the chance and made a break for the door but before I'd even gotten my hand on the handle I was slammed against the door.
"Stupid child" my attacker spat in my ear with his hands on either side of my face, his breath fanning over my face as I cowered in fear. "You're not leaving, understand?" he asked and I quickly nodded my head before he grabbed my upper arms and threw me towards the bed, he was so strong that I immediately fell against the mattress.
"Demetri, calm down" the giant spoke up, his smile even more amused than before as I moved up the bed to get as far away from them as I could until my back hit the headboard and I held my arms which were aching from my attackers grip...Demetri, was that his name.
"She was trying to leave" Demetri growled out and I shrank back when his cold gaze landed on me.
"Like she could get away anyway, not point ruining her in anger" the giant replied and I cowered feeling hot tears running down my cheeks coming to the conclusion that I was never getting away from this Demetri even though he didn't seem to actually want me so I have no idea why he's doing this.
"Let's go" I jumped started by the sudden entrance of two new people, a short girl with blond hair and a boy with dark brown hair but they were both sporting the same crimson red eyes that the big giant was, the only one that was different was Demetri as were his were black with no color at all but they were still just as frightening.
"What about the human?" the dark haired newcomer said eyes falling on me as I cowered, eyes darting around keeping my eyes on every one of them.
"I don't care, we have our job, she's Demetri's pet" I frowned at the girl since I was not a 'pet' and what the hell did the dark haired one mean by 'human', he spat it like I was an inferior to him.
"She's not my pet" Demetri growled out and I watched as the blondes eyes hardened as she stared at him and in an instant he was screaming out dropping to the floor making me jump and try to back even further against the bed as his screams filled my ears then it all stopped, what the hell just happened.
"We're leaving, either bring the human or tie her up" she spat at him before she and the dark haired boy left and Demetri was back on his feet glaring at their exit before he sighed and met the eyes of the giant before they both turned to me as if deliberating what they were going to do with me, I hoped they would leave me behind so that I could find a way to escape.
"Let's go" Demetri stated and walked towards me, pulling me up from the bed and started dragging me off the bed and I fought against him before I felt his hand on my neck again squeezed on a pressure point and I felt my whole body relax and sink into his arms before I felt myself being hoisted up into a bridal hold, my head fell back and everything went black.
My eyes slowly blinked open feeling like I was floating, my eyes settled open but everything was flying past my eyes, it was like being in the car only a thousand times faster and it was actually making me feel sick so I shut my eyes with a groan and I heard a soft chuckle which made my eyes open back up and found myself looking into blood red eyes seeing them owning to Demetri this time and I screamed.
"Shut her up" the girl spat and Demetri quickly adjusted me in his arms placing a hand over my mouth, he was still so cold that if it was in any other situation I would have been worried that this person was sick, he muffled my screams and glared at me as I had to close my eyes again since we were still moving at unhuman speeds, there was no way that these people were human but what the hell were they.
My eyes were clenched shut until all motion stopped and I was almost thrown out of Demetri's arms but his arms clenched around me as I even gripped the lapels of the grey cloak that he was wearing just to hold on before I quickly let go avoiding his eye contact as he put me down but kept an arm around my waist holding me against his side keeping me from running but as I looked around seeing I was surrounded by trees so if I even managed to get out of his vice like grip I had nowhere to run and if I was right then they'd be able to catch me since Demetri seemed to move at unnatural speeds which just prove my non-human theory.
"Keep your mouth shut, you try to run and I'll kill you" he spat at me and seemed to be waiting so I nodded and only after I had nodded did he pull his hand away from my mouth but kept me glued to his side as they walked at a fast pace but nowhere near as fast as we were going before we came out in a clearing my eyes immediately took note of the 9 other people standing in front of us, 7 of them had golden yellow eyes, the little one in the back had crimson red eyes just like the four I was standing with and one with brown eyes clinging to a man with bronze hair but he the strange yellow eyes that I knew wasn't natural any more than the red eyes were.
We stopped a few meters in front of this group and I felt Demetri move beside me to remove his hood on his grey cloak while tightening his hold on my waist as 9 pairs of eyes all fell to me, I was silently begging them to help me with my eyes praying that they saw that I was here against my will.
"Impressive" the red-eyed girl said looking at the other group. "I've never seen a coven escape an assault of this magnitude intact" my eyes furrowed not understanding what was going on, what the hell is a coven and why were there a pile bodies burning, my eyes suddenly met the golden ones of the man holding the brown eyed girl and he looked at me with what resembled pity almost.
"We were lucky" the blonde golden eyed man said who was standing at the head of the group opposite us.
"I doubt that" the girl spat back at him and my body tensed up, she was so cold and frankly I was scared, I just wished anything that I could go back to Seattle and pretend this wasn't happening...maybe I'd tripped and fell and I was dreaming in a coma right now.
"It appears we missed an entertaining fight" the brown haired red-eyed added to his companions statement and my eyes fell on the bodies burning again feeling sick to my stomach before my eyes moved away from it and met the brown eyed girl who was looking at me with a hint of interest confusing me.
"Yes, it's not often were rendered unnecessary"
"If you'd arrived a half hour ago you would have fulfilled your purpose" the bronze haired one spat at her, he clearly held a distaste towards the blonde, his eyes suddenly turned to me and I could've sworn I saw him nod as if he'd read my thoughts...could he have...his eyes moved almost as if nodding again...omg he could read my thoughts.
'HELP ME!' I was going to try anything to escape even if this was impossible but with everything I'd seen so far it was telling me that these people weren't human...at least except for the brown eyed girl in the bronze haired arms, she seemed pretty human to me...was she kidnapped like me...the bronze moved his head side to side as if denying that thought...holy shit he really could read my mind.
"Pity" the blonde girl spat back at him breaking my intense eye contact with the bronze haired guy. "You missed one" she suddenly said and all eyes turned to the young girl with the red eyes which was standing behind the large group and the long haired blonde male moved towards her as if readying himself to protect her.
"We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender" the leader stated, the older blonde which radiated vibes that he was in charge of the group.
"That wasn't yours to offer" the red-eyed blonde next to the giant argued and I cowered in fear moving my eyes over the other group once again praying that they'd help me knowing that if I left with these people I was dead. "Why did you come?" she asked but before the young girl could even answer she was screaming out and falling to the ground just like Demetri had...this girl had some sort of power to induce pain...did they all have special powers or could they all do this...the bronze haired guy met my eyes and shook his head...he could definitely read minds and this blonde definitely seemed to cause pain with a single look but what the hell were they. "Who created you?" the girl continued to cry and I turned my head away from the scene shaking in fear feeling Demetri's arm tighten around me actually hurting a little but I didn't make a sound remembering his warning not to make a sound.
"You don't need to do that, she'll tell you anything you want to know" the woman beside the leader spoke, she had a certain kindness to her voice.
"I know" the red eyed blonde stated but didn't sound remorseful in the slightest.
"I don't know" the young girl stammered between pained coughs. "Riley wouldn't tell us, he said our thoughts weren't safe"
"Her name was Victoria, perhaps you knew her" the bronze mind reader replied.
"Edward, if the Volturi had knowledge of Victoria they would have stopped her" the leader stated turning to the mind reader...his name was Edward. "Isn't that right, Jane?" he asked turning to the red eyed blonde...her name must be Jane.
"Of course" Jane replied, a subtle sinister smirk to her words that made even me not believe her, these people clearly didn't like each other. "Felix" I looked up at the new name and saw her head turned slightly towards the giant...Felix...I was committing all these names to memory, the giant went to move forward.
"She didn't know what she was doing" the kind woman exclaimed and Felix's steps faltered as Jane held her hand out stopping him. "We'll take responsibility for her"
"Give her a chance" the blonde leader added.
"The Volturi don't give second chances" Jane spat and I frowned at the word Volturi coming up again, was that what this group called themselves...what made them different to the golden eyed ones. "Keep that in mind, Caius will be interested to know that she's still human" she added looking at the brown eyed girl and my lips tightened...still human...what did Jane mean by that...could they make someone like them...was that what was going to happen to me.
"The date is set" the brown eyed girl spoke and my eyes went towards her seeing her looking at me again as was Edward with a look of pity on his face again as he stared at me...what could he hear in Demetri's head...was he planning on making me into one of them...he shook his head answering my question making me frown not knowing whether to be happy about that or not...did that mean he was going to kill me...he shook his head again further confusing me as I wondered what it was then that he wanted me for...all I got was a tight lipped look which told me he couldn't answer with a nod or a shake of his head which made my posture tighten in fear, I just want to go home.
"Take care of that Felix, I'd like to go home" Jane spoke and Felix started to walk forward again but this time the others didn't even try to stop him...why weren't they stopping them...they stepped aside...NO they were gonna kill a girl.
'HELP HER, HELP ME!' I screamed mentally to the mind reader but he did nothing only frowned at me as Felix picked the girl up as she panted afraid before Felix spun his arm out and severed the girl in half, her body being like stone breaking in half and my eyes immediately turned finding a place to shield my eyes which was unfortunately into Demetri's chest but it was better than witnessing a match being thrown on the girl...they all just stood by while a girl was murdered and they clearly weren't going to help me either so I might as well except my fate.
"What are you doing with her?" Edward asked and my head snapped over to him seeing him looking at me as Felix came to stand beside Jane again, Demetri's arm tightened around my waist again pulling me right up against him and I could swear I heard him growl.
"My business" he spat at Edward with a hard glare.
"Your scaring her" Edward argued and Demetri's eyes hardened even further squeezing me even tighter and I bit my lip to stop myself from crying out as it hurt. "And hurting her" Edward quickly added and Demetri actually let up on his grip and I felt his eyes on me but I didn't look up at him. "That's not the way to go about it" Edward warned him making me frown at what his meaning was but Demetri glared once more at him before his movements were quick sweeping me into his arms and then we were off again with everything blurring around us once more making me close my eyes before I got motion sickness.
I don't know how long it was before I was being dropped on a soft mattress did I open my eyes and look around taking notice that we were now on a plane, in what looked like a private compartment in the back of the plane and Demetri was sliding the door closed instantly making me fear for my life and back up the bed again getting as far away from him as I could watching him take his cloak off and lay it on a small chair in the corner of the room before he turned to me.
"What's your name?" he asked but I remained silent. "I won't ask nicely again, what's your name?"
"So...Sophia" I stuttered and he paused looking at me.
"How old are you?" I frowned but knew not answering would get me in trouble.
"19" I replied scooting back even further when he sat on the edge of the bed near my feet so I crossed them not wanting any part of myself close to him.
"Is anyone going to be looking for you?" he asked and I looked down shaking my head, there was Harry since I was supposed to work today...or was that the day before, I have no idea what day it was since I'd been knocked out twice now and have no idea how much time passed between those times.
"What...what do you want from me?" I asked hoping to get an answer from him.
"I don't know yet" he admitted actually sounding sincere with his answer.
"Where are we going?" I asked and his lips tightened into a deep frown before he stood and moved to one of the small plane windows so I understood that he wasn't going to answer that one. "Who are you?" I decided to ask and he turned to me a little before moving his eyes back out the window.
"My names Demetri" he told me making me frown since I'd already known that. "Let's just leave it at that for now" he added and my frown deepened before I lowered my eyes to the dark red bedsheets beneath me. "You should buckle in, we'll be taking off soon" he warned me and I looked up before over at the chair in which is cloak was on seeing the seatbelt so I hesitantly got off the bed and moved over to it reaching out to move his cloak but he was suddenly there getting it first making me jump back landing on my butt. "Your very clumsy for a human" he stated making me frown as I stood and sat down quickly as to not make a fool of myself again reaching for the seatbelt and clipped it around my waist.
"What...what are you?" I asked and again his movements froze looking at me.
"We'll discuss that later" he replied and I sucked in a breath since that wasn't not an answer and it told me that he was willing to tell me but was clearly waiting for something.
I fell silent as I felt the engines start and the plane started to move down what I assumed would be a runway, my eyes remained locked on Demetri who was still standing practically as still as a statue as his eyes remained locked on me.
"Ar...aren't you going to buckle in as well?" I asked and his lips quirked into a small smile in the corner of his lips.
"No" he stated sounding amused.
"You'll fall" I stated and his smile twitched again before sitting on the bed body angled towards me.
"I'm a lot more coordinated than you" I frowned moving my eyes off him annoyed that he seemed to perceive me as weak. "Does that upset you?" I didn't reply or look at him until I heard a singular chuckle. "Your such an amusing thing when you want to be" my eyebrows clenched into a frown and he laughed again...his laugh was melodic and was actually kind of nice...nothing like I expected it to be but then I hadn't really been thinking about what it would sound like so why did I like it so much.
When I felt the plane start to rise in the air my whole body tensed up since I'd always hated flying, I'd only ever been on a plane twice in my life and neither had been a pleasant experience as there was always another family waiting for me at my destination that liked me for a few months before they decided I was too much of a hassle and threw me back into the system.
"What's wrong?" he suddenly asked and my eyes turned towards him sensing that we were level and flying through the air.
"Nothing" I spat and he frowned standing up and was in front of me before I had even blinked making me jump and he smiled a little again before he reached up and I felt his hand move through my hair tucking it behind my ear and I actually felt the subtle signs of a blush staining my cheeks...how is this the same person that was threatening to kill me earlier...he must have a personality disorder. "Don't" I told him since I shouldn't be letting him touch me so affectionately, he frowned standing upright again then looked towards the door.
"You should sleep, it'll be a long flight" he stated before leaving me alone in the bedroom and once I grew confidant that the plane was steady I removed my seatbelt and moved back over to the bed sitting down taking in everything that's happened and went over all the facts that I'd figured out since being kidnapped.
Demetri seemed conflicted on what to do with me, he had kidnapped me and was now taking me somewhere...his other companions were strange with their crimson red eyes...they were a coven of something clearly...they and others called them the Volturi whatever that was I had yet to figure out...the other 'coven' was different to Demetri and his companions but yet seemed to be the same whatever they were...there was so many other things but before I knew it I was falling asleep in the plush and comfortable bed.
Once again I found myself slowly blinking my eyes awake being met with almost complete darkness except for a small light coming from the crack in the door that lead to the other areas of the plane, I sat up noticing that a blanket had been laid over me since I didn't remember getting under one when I fell asleep which left me to believe that Demetri had come back and maybe laid one over me which confused me since he was so confusing with his hot and cold behavior.
I heard my stomach growl which told me that I must have been asleep for some time, that and the fact that it was dark now and I still had no idea how many days I'd been Demetri's prisoner for so I would have no idea when the last time I ate was but I didn't want to leave this room as I didn't feel safe with these people and at least in here I was sort of safe especially since it was away from that Jane girl so I sat up and just looked out the window not really looking at anything but I had nothing better to do.
Demetri's POV
I had left Sophia only for 20 minutes before I'd returned to find her asleep on the bed, she had actually looked so angelic that I swear if my heart had a beat it would have skipped one, she was beautiful and even a blind person could admit that since despite her fear I could sense that she was kind, curious and just a good person which I why I was conflicted to believe that she could actually be the one I was destined to be with...did I even believe in such things because I had no clue especially since I have lived for a thousand years and had never felt anything like what I was feeling now...I'm Demetri Volturi...Casanova and had never felt this way about a woman before.
My throat was still burning with thirst for this girls blood and even the memory of it was so potent and vibrant that I could still taste it on my tongue and I wanted nothing more than to taste it but the thought of ruining such a beautiful woman and changing the smell of her blood kept me from sinking my teeth into her neck which pegged the question on what I was doing with her.
"Your humans awake" I looked up pulled out of my thoughts at Felix's voice seeing him smirking in my direction before I directed mine to the bedroom where sure enough I could hear her movements and her fastened heartbeat which told me she was awake, I sighed and stood up walking towards the room, we'd be landing in Volterra in about an hour.
I was kind of pleased that she'd slept the entire flight and the few times we'd had to land to refuel the Volturi's private jet since that allowed me to leave her and quench my thirst before I took her to see the ancients and got the answers I so desperately seeked to explain what I was feeling for this human girl that I couldn't kill and seemed to instinctively want to protect.
Sophia's POV
I pulled my knees to my chest in hopes to silence my stomach, my mouth was dry and I would do anything for some water but all those thoughts went out the window when the door slid open and my head snapped to it watching Demetri walk in shutting it behind him but my eyes widened when I saw the bright crimson red eyes.
"Your eyes!?" I exclaimed in shock and his eyes widened a little.
"Uh...it's nothing" he replied avoiding looking directly at me as he moved picking up his cloak which he must have left in here and put in on. "We'll be landing in 45 minutes" he told me and I frowned taking in this new information, so he was like his companions but why was the question, why were his eyes black the last time I saw him but now they were red...what had changed and what were they was the biggest questions I had right now.
I licked my dry lips as I stared at him seeing his eyes locked out the window again standing as still as a statue making me frown since he seemed to do that a lot and he actually looked like one of those Greek statues that you see in the museum looking like he was carved out of stone, his skin was a pale as one of them as was his companions and those people in the clearing.
Weird eyes and pale skin, also freezing ice cold to the touch and the unnatural speed were my clues as to what they were so far but I haven't even begun to try and work on some theories feeling like nothing I even come up with would be close to the truth so I opted to continue to be observant and maybe...just maybe I'd overhear an answer to his odd and strange behavior.
"Can I know where we'll be going now" I asked breaking the silence between us.
"Italy" he finally replied and my eyes widened.
"Italy!" I exclaimed since Italy had always been on my destination list of places I'd wanted to see when I grew up but I never thought I'd ever actually do it, not that I'd really had a choice now but I still couldn't believe it.
"You sound happy about that"
"I've always wanted to visit Italy when I was younger" I admitted and he smiled slightly again.
"We'll be arriving soon and you'll be meeting some people, I must tell you though that you're not to speak, not to draw unnecessary attention to yourself and never under any circumstances are you to leave my side, understand?" I frowned confused as to where he was taking me that he had to make all these rules but found myself nodding my head because from what I'd seen compared between him and Jane he was the lesser of two evils.
Demetri sat with me the rest of the flight and it was spent in some awkward silence as he seemed to just like to stare at me, his expression never settling too long on one emotion which was kind of unsettling me at times as I didn't know what he was thinking about and really wish I had the power of mind reading like that Edward had, it seemed like a very convenient ability.
When the plane was preparing to land he told me to buckle up again and I didn't hesitate while he once again sat on the bed, sitting rigid and still as the plane landed never once swaying or looking like he was going to fall as the plane landed coming to a stop on what I assumed to be a tarmac and as soon as the plane stopped moving he stood up walking over to me and unbuckled my seatbelt pulling me to my feet with his hand around my upper arm.
"Remember what I told you" he warned and I nodded quickly before he was leading me out of the room and off the plane where I saw Jane, Felix and the other person who I hadn't gotten the name of yet waiting and I frowned looking around seeing we were in the middle of a deserted runway with no car but I stayed silent just like Demetri had asked me to, no idea why but I really didn't want to experience Jane's ability.
"I can't wait to hear what the ancients say about your human pet" the brown haired one said.
"Shut up Alec" Jane spat at him and I smiled a little finally relieved to have his name.
"Just leave her alone" Demetri added and I saw Alec and Felix smirk at him, or more accurately how protective his voice sounded since he had no reason to be protective over me, he didn't know me and it wasn't like we were together.
"Let's go" Jane growled out and again before I could even blink Demetri had swooped down and picked me up into a bridal cradle and I knew what came next given there was no car and I found myself wrapping my arms around his neck preparing myself for the sick feeling of moving so fast and closed my eyes swearing I heard Demetri and Felix chuckling before I suddenly felt the wind start and knew he was running so I kept my closed the whole way and didn't open my eyes until I felt the wind stop and Demetri was moving slower, more human.
"You can let go" my eyes opened seeing an amused look on Demetri's face as I unwound my arms and he placed my feet on the ground but still kept an arm around my waist as we were walking through what looked like some castle with ancient stone walls which were leaking moisture down the gray stones, like they were bleeding ink which told me it was some kind of ancient castle but where I had no clue which one...was this where they killed me in some ancient sacrificial way, I suddenly felt even more terrified than before as we walked in with me not knowing if I'd ever see the light of day again.
