1 INT. OFFICE - DAY
[Track 1: Something Awesome] Taybrock Van Erkbius, an old, eccentric man in a vibrant coloured suit - is grinning at a hologram of a large, submarine-type pod. In front of him are a dozen cameras, all clicking away.

TAYBROCK
We often look out to the stars and wonder what's out there. But I would argue, before we can discover the mysteries of the universe above us, we must first unlock the secrets of the universe below us. After all, it is only when we look inwards, that we can hope to achieve true enlightenment. As you can see, the SS Albatross is nearing completion. In one month, the programming will be complete, and we shall discover for the first time what really lies underneath the dark shroud of the Vellian East Sea.

Journalists yell out questions, to which he chuckles heartily.

TAYBROCK
One at a time!

JOURNALIST
That court case-

TAYBROCK
No.

He wears a stern expression, before returning to his photogenic smile.

TAYBROCK
Any questions not regarding the allegations made against me?

JOURNALIST
What results are you hoping to find from this expedition?

TAYBROCK
Only a positive result, I can assure you. My deep sea explorer shall delve further into our world, and unveil the secrets to better our society.

JOURNALIST
What are you hoping to find, treasure?

TAYBROCK
No-one can tell for certain, but to me, nothing is more important than the sense of discovery and education.

He bites into an apple, still smiling.

2 INT. TARDIS
Two people watch the news broadcast from the TARDIS screen. One of them is an ancient Time Lord, with terrible fashion sense, going from a long coat, to an askew bowtie and a smart vest - all matching a purple colour scheme, whilst the other is a short, young girl, with straight dark hair and donning a blue coat and tight leggings.

CLARA
And you know this bloke?

DOCTOR
Taybrock Van Erkbius.

CLARA
Grand name.

DOCTOR
Grand person! You're going to love him.

CLARA
Bit cheesy, though.

DOCTOR
How do you mean?

CLARA
He's eating an apple on live TV.

DOCTOR
So, what do you think?

CLARA
About what?

DOCTOR
Going to see this!

CLARA
The SS Albatross?

DOCTOR
The very one!

CLARA
Why is it called Albatross?

DOCTOR
I dunno, ask him. I'm assuming that means it's a yes.

CLARA
Yes!

DOCTOR
Excellent, cos I've already set the coordinates, we're arriving now! The planet Makia Velii, 7026!

She rolls her eyes.

DOCTOR
And…

He throws a lever.

DOCTOR
Landed! Ready for our grand entrance, Miss Oswald?

CLARA
Always.

He laughs, straightening his long purple coat and striding towards the door. He pulls it open, gesturing for his companion to go through.

3 EXT. FACTORY ENTRANCE - DAY
The Doctor shuts the door gently behind him, as Clara marvels at a magnificent factory, towering over the pair.

CLARA
Your mate owns this place? You choose your friends well, don't you?

DOCTOR
Shall we?

She giggles, holding his hand and rushing towards the front doors, as the camera pans back up to the gigantic building on the skyline of a huge industrial city. [Track 1 ends]

ROLL TITLES

4 INT. OFFICE - DAY
Taybrock settles in his chair.

TAYBROCK
Another successful press conference. Well done, me!

He chuckles. His intercom buzzes.

TAYBROCK
Yes, yes, yes?

CLERK
There's someone here to see you.

TAYBROCK
Who is it?

CLERK
A Doctor?

TAYBROCK
Ah! Send him up!

CLERK
I say, sir - are you quite well?

TAYBROCK
Dismiss your thoughts immediately, Clerk. It's an old friend.

CLERK
Yes, sir.

Taybrock turns off his intercom, rubbing his hands together. The lift door opens, revealing the Doctor and Clara.

DOCTOR
Clara, meet Taybrock Van Erkbius! One of the most renowned businessmen and archeologists of this time period!

TAYBROCK
Been a while, eh old chap? Last time I saw you was at the new millenium party on Earth! 7000! Big milestone!

DOCTOR
Oh yeah! You got drunk, started an argument with Ace, nearly took out half of Sweden!

TAYBROCK
I still maintain that the Blarfian edition of Monopoly is better than the original! No one's heard of the original landmarks!

CLARA
Blarfian?

DOCTOR
So! Where's this vessel then?

[Track 2: Sweetville] He beckons them out onto the balcony, grinning.

5 INT. BALCONY - DAY
They step out onto the balcony, overwatching the factory floor. In the centre of the factory is the SS Albatross, with drills and machines working around it.

DOCTOR
Look at that! What a beauty!

He sends an air kiss to the pod.

TAYBROCK
Care for a tour around the factory?

The Doctor and Taybrock giddily run along the balcony to another lift, whilst Clara dawdles on behind.

DOCTOR
Keep up, Clara!

Clara nods, hurrying.

6 INT. RECEPTION - DAY
The lift opens up onto a large lobby area, made of pristine marble.

TAYBROCK
You've obviously come through here already, unless you've parked your TARDIS in an inane spot again.

DOCTOR
No, not this time. Sorry again for materialising… in a lift.

TAYBROCK
Ah, nevermind that now. It was repaired within a couple of hours.

DOCTOR
Fast workforce then?

TAYBROCK
Indeed! One of the fastest in this region of space!

DOCTOR
Just look at this architecture! So stunning! Evocative of Anilysses' work, am I right?

TAYBROCK
Designed by the very one!

DOCTOR
No! You never told me that!

CLARA
Who?

DOCTOR
Arturo Anilysses - One of the greatests architects of all time! Their work spreads out to the far reaches of the Universe, always so unique, so inspiring!

He points to a water fountain in the middle of the lobby, designed in a very strange way, with different spheres and shapes filtering the water around a large column reaching from the ceiling to the floor. Clara smiles, admiring it, then notices the Doctor and Taybrock have already moved on.

DOCTOR
Keep up, Clara!

She runs after them.

7 INT. HALLWAY - DAY
The three walk through a large hallway, with the walls comprising a similar design to the reception, except it isn't as visible due to the fact that the corridor is stacked with crates and equipment.

TAYBROCK
Each part has been crafted from the ores at the heart of the asteroid field above our planet, shipped through solar storms and across tidal storms to reach this factory.

DOCTOR
Bet that was expensive.

TAYBROCK
Nothing's expensive in terms of bettering our future, Doctor! In the good name of exploration.

DOCTOR
Clearly!

TAYBROCK
Sides!

All of the employees press themselves against the wall, as do the Doctor and Clara when they realise that a small truck carries materials along the corridor.

CLARA
Close shave.

DOCTOR
Wasn't it just? I forgot the thrill about working in a factory.

CLARA
You worked in a factory?

DOCTOR
Just for an hour or so. The place blew up - partly my fault.

CLARA
Of course it was.

ANALISE
Psst!

Clara spins round, intrigued.

DOCTOR
Keep up, Clara!

CLARA
Yeah… sure…

ANALISE
Psst!

CLARA
Hello?

She sees a worker in grey overalls, her hair slightly ageing, and waves at her. The worker opens a door and walks out onto the factory floor. Concerned, Clara follows her.

8 INT. LIFT - DAY
The steel walls have been cleaned and shine brightly. The Doctor and Taybrock step inside, and the doors close behind them.

DOCTOR
Oh, where's Clara?

TAYBROCK
I'll contact security, she must've gotten lost.

The lift speeds up, throwing the Doctor off-balance. Slightly embarrassed, the Doctor picks himself off the floor and fiddles with his bowtie. [Track 2 ends]

9 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
Clara puts a pair of headphones on, blocking the loud whirring of sound from the machinery. She looks around for the worker, who's blending in with the rest of the employees. She roams about, getting distracted by the drills and cogs working away. She notices the Doctor and Taybrock back in their office, so she returns to the door, to find it locked. She frowns, turning to another employee, and tapping him on the shoulder. He, too, is wearing headphones. He acknowledges her presence, smiling creepily.

CLARA (shouting) Can you open the door?

She points to the door, gesturing for him to unlock it. [Track 3: Somewhere to Hide] He looks to two people behind her, who grab her and knock her unconscious. They drag her towards the pod, which has a few sticks of TNT attached to the bottom.

10 INT. OFFICE - DAY
The Doctor and Taybrock are sitting down, sipping tea. The Doctor is lounging back on one sofa, whilst Taybrock sits with immaculate posture on the one facing him. A butler enters with a cloche. He lifts the lid and reveals an assortment of cakes and scones. The Doctor's face lights up, and he downs his cup of tea in one gulp and the Doctor immediately grabs a scone and crams it into his face.

TAYBROCK
I can see that regeneration didn't change your childish personality, did it?

DOCTOR
Not in the slightest! So, tell me more about this SS Albatross.

TAYBROCK
Ah! Made from ultranium, the diver shall be filled with 180 litres of oil, delivered directly from the North Reserves - the finest fuel resource on the planet!

DOCTOR
Beautiful! And when is this meant to take place?

TAYBROCK
Next week.

DOCTOR
What is it waiting for?

TAYBROCK
Safety checks, and the final oil delivery.

DOCTOR
Right, right, yes. Excited?

TAYBROCK
Absolutely.

DOCTOR
I wonder what's keeping Clara.

TAYBROCK
I'll contact security again in a moment. Would you like to study the blueprints? I came up with them myself.

DOCTOR
Oh, would I?

He excitedly picks up blueprints, reading them.

11 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
Clara wakes up slowly, in a dark room with lots of flashing lights. Behind her is a small dormitory area, but aside from that, the pod is fairly cramped. The walls are made of a rough metal, shaped into a scaled design. She realises she's been strapped to a chair. She wiggles out of her ropes, and tries to open the door.

CLARA
Doctor?

She bangs.

CLARA
Hello, I can't get out! Help!

She sits back down.

CLARA
Locked.

The pod rumbles.

12 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
The machines stop whirring away, and all the workers join together.

ANALISE
That was too easy! Rafael, what are you waiting for?

RAFAEL
Let's end this once and for all.

Rafael, an older man, walks over to a lever, and throws it. An alarm tolls.

13 INT. OFFICE - DAY
The windows slide down and are replaced by a thick black metal wall.

DOCTOR
Is there a problem?

TAYBROCK
Emergency protocols…

Taybrock runs over to his desk and turns on the intercom.

TAYBROCK
What's going on down there?

Static.

TAYBROCK
Hello? I say, hello?

DOCTOR
Something's wrong.

The Doctor tries to open the door, but it's locked.

DOCTOR
Someone's locked us in. A rival company?

TAYBROCK
I've paid for the highest security force in the system, no-one could hijack my technology.

The Doctor takes out the sonic, as the green light whirrs away.

DOCTOR
Very high end. Not even the sonic can shift it. Is there an override switch?

TAYBROCK
Yes, yes, here.

Taybrock opens a panel under his desk, to see the wires cut.

TAYBROCK
This has happened on purpose. It's sabotage!

The Doctor runs over.

14 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
A crane is moving the pod, placing it on a platform gently.

15 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
Clara is messing with the controls.

CLARA
Come on, come on, come on, something's gotta open this stupid door! Open!

She sees a microphone.

CLARA
Someone! Open the door, I'm inside! There's been some mistake!

She slams the table.

16 INT. OFFICE - DAY
The Doctor is sonicing the wires.

DOCTOR
And… fixed!

He presses a button, and the walls return to their normal state. The pair run out onto the balcony.

17 INT. BALCONY - DAY
They see the SS Albatross on the platform, being engulfed in rings of blue light.

TAYBROCK
They've activated the teleport… No. No, no, no, no, no!

The Doctor runs after Taybrock as he hobbles towards the lift.

18 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
The lift opens, and the Doctor and Taybrock burst through onto the floor - but they are too late. The pod disappears.

DOCTOR
What…

TAYBROCK
What did you do that for?! All my work!

Taybrock advances towards the workers, but some of them come up behind the Doctor and Taybrock and restrain them.

ANALISE
OUR work. Not yours. You didn't do squat! You just sat in your office, bragging about how amazing your achievements are whilst we did the manual labour, slaving hour after hour for YOU.

DOCTOR
What's going on?

Analise giggles.

ANALISE
It's time you learnt a lesson, Mr Van Erkbius!

RAFAEL
Wondering where your little friend is?

DOCTOR
What- Clara? Clara!

His phone rings, as his face falls.

DOCTOR
Clara…

He gets himself out of the worker's grip and answers.

DOCTOR
Tell me you're not.

19 INT. SS ALBATROSS
Clara is wide-eyed, obviously a little spooked.

CLARA
Hi. Funny story! So, I think I'm in the deep sea diver. And, I don't know much about 71st Century technology, but I think, according to these readings, I've just been dropped into the ocean.

[Track 3 ends] Pan out to reveal Clara is surrounded by red lights and water everywhere.

CLARA
Oh, yeah, and I think it's flooding slowly.

20 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
The Doctor glares at the other workers. [Track 4: Rescue the Doctor]

DOCTOR
You didn't have to get Clara involved with this.

ANALISE
It's time that Mr Taybrock Van Erkbius learned that there are consequences! There's a ton of TNT strapped to that diver, and it's going to explode in, ooh... 45 minutes? Out of harm's way, but it'll make you think twice about exploiting us.

TAYBROCK
You utter morons! Clara isn't my friend, she's the Doctor's!

RAFAEL
What-?

DOCTOR
Get her back. Get her back right now!

Analise glances at the others, then back to the Doctor.

ANALISE
Awww, sorry, mister. But it's too late.

She smirks, then picks up a metal rod and smashes the teleport.

DOCTOR
No! No, no, no!

He pulls Analise back and throws her to the ground.

DOCTOR
Clara…

He presses the phone back to his ear.

DOCTOR
Clara, the teleport's broken. We can't get you back just yet.

21 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
She climbs away from the controls towards a small bedding area.

CLARA
Okay. And the good news is?

DOCTOR (oc)
There's a ton of TNT going to blow you up in 45 minutes.

CLARA
That's not good news!

DOCTOR (oc)
No. Uh, good news, good news…

Clara brushes her soaked hair back.

22 INT. FACTORY FLOOR - DAY
The Doctor paces about, panicking.

DOCTOR
Good news, good news, good news… Well, I'm still working out the good news front, but we're not giving up. We'll find something. Just hold tight, we're coming for you.

He hangs up.

DOCTOR
We'll get to the control centre, try and adjust her descent pattern until we work her out.

ANALISE
You better hurry up, then. That ship's going to ignite in…

She checks her watch.

ANALISE
44 minutes and 18 seconds. And don't expect our help. Just because the wrong person is in there doesn't mean I'm going to assist you in saving them. We've still ruined Van Erkbius' big project.

DOCTOR
I don't need you. Because I have something more powerful. I am not going to let anything stand in my way because that is my friend. And if she is harmed in any way, if she comes back to me – which she will – with so much as a scorch mark on her dress or a sniffly nose, you will have hell to pay. Do you understand me?

She nods.

DOCTOR
Call the authorities.

He storms off, and the workers all wear a look of guilt on their face. [Track 4 ends]

23 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
[Track 5: Preparing for the Silurians] Clara opens a cupboard, and sees a spray can. She reads the label, then goes to the cracks through which the water is sprinkling though, and sprays it, acting as a sealant and covering up the holes. She sets the can down and sits by the controls.

24 INT. BALCONY - DAY
Taybrock is on the phone in his office, as the Doctor watches the police arrest the group of rebellious workers. Analise gives the Doctor an evil smile, to which he grimaces at. Taybrock puts the phone down and joins him on the balcony.

TAYBROCK
I've contacted Control - they're doing what they can to slow down the descent. But they can't neutralise the explosives remotely. And the fuel hadn't been entirely deposited, only 40% was in there - It's enough to get her to the floor, but not back up.

The Doctor buries his head in his hands.

DOCTOR
Okay, okay, okay. So Clara is in an exploding deep sea diver. We can't teleport her back up, and she can't swim back up. Ah! Yes, wait, wait, wait, wait!

He runs back into the office.

25 INT. OFFICE - DAY
He checks the blueprints, then switches on the 3-D holographic model.

DOCTOR
Do you see?

TAYBROCK
What?

DOCTOR
Come on, Taybrock, you made this! What's the difference between the blueprints and the model?

TAYBROCK
There was… Oh, you're a genius!

DOCTOR
Now you're getting it!

TAYBROCK
The prototype!

DOCTOR
The prototype sub! According to these plans, there's a built-in teleport which we can use to get down there.

TAYBROCK
That's correct, but I couldn't get the co-ordinates exactly on the ball, that's why I abandoned that model.

DOCTOR
But you didn't have me back then, I'm a fantastic pilot. But don't quote that back to me. Where's the sub now?

TAYBROCK
In storage. I'll request a vehicle to take us down there.

Taybrock returns to the intercom.

26 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
Clara looks at the radar. Something is pinging near the bottom.

CLARA
Hello. What's that, then? Something's down there.

Through the murky darkness in the window, a cluster of lights shine - and the faint outline of a few towers can be made extruding from the sea bed.

27 INT. STORAGE - DAY
Taybrock opens the storage locker, approaching the pod, as the Doctor reads his watch.

DOCTOR
28 minutes, 36 seconds. Still got time.

TAYBROCK
Then let's get going and rescue that pod.

DOCTOR
And more importantly, Clara.

TAYBROCK
What? Oh, yes, yes.

DOCTOR
So, tell me. What did she mean by "teaching you a lesson"?

TAYBROCK
How should I know? She's a crazed lunatic. She's psychotic.

DOCTOR
What did she mean?

TAYBROCK
Oh, it's probably just a little feud from some time ago, when the project was in full swing. A little bump in the road.

DOCTOR
What's that got to do with anything?

TAYBROCK
There were accusations made against me. Claims that the project was unsafe, harming others and that the company was keeping it secret. The union rose up against me and took me to court, but I was found not guilty. Because I'm not.

The Doctor frowns, then climbs into the pod, as does Taybrock.

28 INT. PROTOTYPE SUBMARINE - DAY
The pod is a similar design to the SS Albatross, except a little more steampunky. The Doctor starts to rewire the machine, as he glances to his older friend.

DOCTOR
Can you work out the frequency of the intercom so we can connect to Clara?

TAYBROCK
I don't see any reason not to.

DOCTOR
Come on, we need more juice! Oh, of course, there's no fuel, this is a prototype.

TAYBROCK
Or oxygen. We'd suffocate.

DOCTOR
Oxygen, yes. How much oxygen has Clara got?

TAYBROCK
I'm- I'm not sure.

DOCTOR
Oh, no. This rust bucket won't survive at all under that pressure. No oxygen, no fuel, nothing.

The Doctor sits on the floor, resting his head against the wall.

DOCTOR
All we have is a teleport, and even that won't work because we don't have any power!

His phone rings.

DOCTOR
Clara, any updates?

CLARA (oc)
Firstly, I found a ration pack.

DOCTOR
Good, hold onto that, we might need it.

29 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
Clara awkwardly stops stuffing a bread roll into her mouth.

CLARA
Oh. Sorry.

DOCTOR (oc)
Nevermind...

CLARA
Secondly, the scanners are reading something.

30 INT. PROTOTYPE SUBMARINE - DAY
He shakes his head.

DOCTOR
That doesn't matter, we've got a prototype submarine, but it's got about enough energy for one teleport trip. We could get down there and stop the explosion, but we can't get back up.

CLARA (oc)
What about the TARDIS?

DOCTOR
The water would wreak havoc with the circuits.

TAYBROCK
What are the scanners reading?

CLARA (oc)
I don't… I'm not sure.

TAYBROCK
I'm sure we can use a bit of that power to connect the camera feed to our scanners. Hold on just a moment, my dear. I'm locking onto your pod's energy signature.

Taybrock pushes forward a lever, generating a low hum, then flicks a few switches. There's a few sparks, which causes the Doctor to jump back. He clears his throat, running his hand through his hair. [Track 5 ends]

TAYBROCK
There. I've connected to your feed.

He switches on the screen, and an underwater city comes into view.

31 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
[Track 6: Fish] Clara looks out of the window towards the seabed.

CLARA
That's beautiful… What is it?

DOCTOR (oc)
Some kind of civilisation, living under the water.

32 INT. PROTOTYPE SUBMARINE - DAY
The Doctor stares at the image. Taybrock is utterly dumbfounded.

DOCTOR
Did you know this existed?

TAYBROCK
No. There were stories, it was unlikely that the Vellians were the only life forms existing on the planet, but… to this extent - I could never imagine! The rumours are all true! There really is more to our world than we know.

CLARA (oc)
I'm closer than it looks - I'm nearly in the city.

DOCTOR
Be careful.

TAYBROCK Well, there's a silver lining.

DOCTOR
What's that?

TAYBROCK
They might have resources. Enough fuel to bring the pod back up!

DOCTOR
Possibly. We might have to go down ourselves. I don't like Clara on her own down there.

CLARA (oc)
Oi! I can handle myself.

DOCTOR
That's the thing, we don't know what we're handling.

TAYBROCK
You think the population's dangerous?

DOCTOR
Very possibly.

Beat. [Track 6 ends]

DOCTOR
Okay, we finish rewiring this teleport, lock onto the pod and get down there. Disarm the explosives, negotiate with the locals and get back to the surface in time for tea. Does that sound good enough?

TAYBROCK
Does to me.

CLARA (oc)
You better hurry up.

DOCTOR
I'll do my best. Taybrock, can you see if you can procure us some disarming tools? Don't be long.

TAYBROCK
Easily.

Taybrock climbs out of the pod, a stern expression on their face.

33 EXT. CITY - DAY
The pod descends beside the towers, which are now a lot clearer, made from coral and scales, rising high into the water - archways are built into the structures, from which the indigenous population gawp at the pod - they are a type of aquatic mammal - humanoid, but alarmed. The pod comes to a halt, resting on a small veranda.

34 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
[Track 7: Tasha Lem] Clara steadies herself as the pod rocks, settling itself on the surface.

CLARA
Okay. Landed, then.

She switches on the microphone.

CLARA
Doctor, can you hear me?

DOCTOR (oc)
Just about. That's good, intercom system is working. You know what that means?

CLARA
What?

DOCTOR (oc)
We've locked onto you. Once Taybrock's back, we can teleport to you.

CLARA
Not to be ungrateful, but do you think he could hurry it up? The pod's just arrived.

35 INT. PROTOTYPE SUBMARINE - DAY
The Doctor pokes his head out from under the console.

DOCTOR
Already? How long left?

Once again, he reads his watch.

DOCTOR
20 minutes. That's easy, there's plenty to do in 20 minutes.

He looks to the pod door.

DOCTOR
He should've been back by now.

The Doctor realises.

DOCTOR
Oh, no.

CLARA (oc)
What?

DOCTOR
Problem. I think Taybrock's in trouble. I need to find him. You… There's a chance we won't make it back in time. That means you're on your own.

CLARA (oc)
So reassuring.

DOCTOR
Okay, Clara. Check the cupboards again - did you see a wetsuit earlier?

There is a clatter over the intercom.

36 INT. SS ALBATROSS - DAY
Clara rummages through the cupboard.

CLARA
Uh…

She finds a wetsuit.

CLARA
Yes! Yes there is!

DOCTOR
Perfect. You need to put it on and talk to the locals - But we know nothing about them, so be careful. Gotta go!

The intercom switches off, causing her to run back to the controls.

CLARA
What- no- Doctor! Ugh, every time

She wanders back to the cupboard, takes the wetsuit out and climbs into it, attaching an oxygen tank onto her back. Standing directly under the pod door, she lowers a plastic column down around her, sealing her inside. She breathes shallow breaths, trying not to fog up her suit, yet still holding back the urge to hyperventilate. The pod door opens and floods the tube. After a few moments, she breaks into a swimming position, climbing outside.

37 EXT. VERANDA - DAY
Clara swims towards one of the archways, then looks through it before going in. [Track 7 ends]

38 INT. JAIL CELLS - DAY
Screams echo from the hall of cells - almost like an asylum. Footsteps ring out as someone approaches one cell, something in his pocket. It's Taybrock. He stares at Analise, who's grinning, but facing the wall.

ANALISE
Guess who's back.

TAYBROCK
What are you? Some kind of bounty hunter?

ANALISE
In a way. I mean, it's not my job or anything, but I've been asked to kill you. I wanted to do it anyway! But I suggested to my employers that it'd be better to see your reputation in pieces first. To see the look on your face when you realised you lost everything. And it was worth it!

TAYBROCK
Who? Who employed you?!

ANALISE
Oh, there's loads of them. You wouldn't know any of them, would you? Because we mean nothing to you. So they came to me and Rafael. I mean, we worked under your management, we had contacts who could get us resources, and as long as you got your prize, you didn't care about us or what we were up to. - we're perfect for the job.

TAYBROCK
Why?

ANALISE
I'm sorry?

TAYBROCK
Why now? You could've quit any time you liked.

ANALISE
Quitting was pointless. If we all quit, you'd replace us with another hundred "dispensable" workers. Cos that's how you see us, isn't it?

She spins around, her eyes threatening and scaring Taybrock. [Track 8: Skaldak]

ANALISE
Dispensable. Well, we're not. We're more than you thought we were. And after the truth came out, we'd hoped that you'd be taken down. Justice for my brother. Those solar storms. He got killed in one - and what did you do about it? Nothing. Absolutely nothing! Just sent a condolence card and replaced him! I'm locked up here, when you're the one who should be behind these bars.

She throws herself toward him, causing him to stagger back and reveal - a pistol. She laughs.

ANALISE
And there it is.

TAYBROCK
This is just for protection.

ANALISE
We know it's not.

TAYBROCK
So. You're out for revenge. That's nothing new. I'm a celebrity, you think you're the first person who's threatened me?

ANALISE
We are every threat you've ever had. We're out to end everything you stand for. You think just because I'm locked up this is over? There's so many others who can get you. How many lives have you ruined? You will never be able to rest again. Here's some advice. Watch... your... back.

A gunshot rings out. Analise looks down at the wound, the blood dripping onto her shirt. The Doctor runs into the ward, looks at the gun in Taybrock's hand, and then at the gunshot wound in Analise's shirt.

DOCTOR
No, no, no, no, no, no! Taybrock, tell me you didn't!

Analise is grinning and laughing in a shrill voice.

ANALISE
This is just brilliant! I always knew, Taybrock van Erkbius! I always said you were a cold-hearted murderer. I knew that nothing, and no one would get in the way of your plans. Because of course, it's obvious who's more important between innocent people and money.

Two more gunshots. The Doctor rips the gun from Taybrock's hands as Analise falls to her knees. The Doctor sonics open the cell door and runs to her side. He feels her heart, and looks up.

DOCTOR
She's dead. You killed her, Taybrock.

TAYBROCK
I had to! She was going to kill me!

DOCTOR
She was unarmed!

TAYBROCK
She doesn't matter! She's just a small, insignificant person who went against me, so what does it matter?!

Beat.

DOCTOR
I thought I knew who the enemy was, but I was wrong.

And the Doctor walks off. Taybrock looks around, looking for any police officers, then runs off after him.

39 INT. CITY BRIDGE - DAY
Clara swims along a desolate corridor, made from a similar design to the exterior towers. She notes that they are organic-like, and almost appear grown.

CLARA
Hello? Anyone?

She stops for a minute, reading her oxygen levels, before looking at her surroundings, impressed by the architecture.

CLARA
Someone would think this place was extinct. But I swear I saw someone watching me when I came down.

She continues to swim along, through another archway.

40 EXT. CITY CENTRE - DAY
She comes across a grand stadium with spires all around, gaping in awe at the spectacle.

CLARA
Vibing in Atlantis… alien Atlantis. Didn't think I'd be doing this tonight. Oh, god, first sign of madness.

One of the fish people darts across Clara's vision, catching her eye for just a second before disappearing out of sight. She sees a small grate through which it went through.

CLARA
Hey! No, hang on! I'm not going to hurt you.

She dives off one of the steps, speeding towards the grate and slipping through. Bubbles surround her, and she realises a force is dragging her down like a whirlpool. She tries to swim out of the suction, but she is overwhelmed and eventually succumbs, falling further and further into the tube.

41 INT. VENTS - DAY
The Doctor groans, lying on the floor, dazed - Both he and Taybrock are wearing wetsuits. They remark upon the fact that they are in an uneven rock tunnel, almost like a cave, but with wires and cables running along - it's also worth noting to the two men that there is no water, and that the tunnel is completely dry.

DOCTOR
Maybe I'm not as good of a pilot as I thought.

TAYBROCK
Nevermind that now, where the hell are we?

DOCTOR
There's no water down here - either we really are off or…

He studies the cables built into the rock.

DOCTOR
Ventilation system. Well, at least we know that this civilisation is advanced. We're somewhere beneath the city.

TAYBROCK
Urgh, look at all this muck!

DOCTOR
Bit primitive for you?

TAYBROCK
What are you getting angry about?

DOCTOR
You know what-

TAYBROCK
It was self-defense!

DOCTOR
She was unarmed!

TAYBROCK
So you keep saying, but you didn't hear her threats!

Silence.

DOCTOR
This conversation isn't over. We've got 12 minutes until that pod explodes, and we don't know how big this city is, how much will be affected, and whether we're in range.

TAYBROCK
And you can't talk - how much destruction do you bring to your life? What happens to the people you leave behind? Don't you dare take the moral high ground, sir.

The Doctor looks aghast, then disappointed. [Track 8 ends] Suddenly, more of the fish people surround them, dressed in rags.

42 INT. BOARDROOM - DAY
[Track 9: Zygon in the Painting] Clara is on the floor, asleep. She wakes up to see five of the fish people crowding her, in regal robes, and jumps up with a start. They stumble back, scared, as Clara looks around and sees a similar design to the corridors from earlier.

CLARA
Where am I? What's going on?

BARBEL
It talks of our language!

CLARA
Yeah… I do. I'm Clara. What's your name?

Clara extends a hand towards one of the fish people, who cowers.

HOKI
Stay back!

CLARA
I'm not going to hurt you! ...But I do need your help. I'm from the surface.

The fish people look at each other.

CLARA
Surface? Land? Guess you don't have a word for that. From out of the water. Above!

ELVER
You… you come from… above?

CLARA
Yes! Yes.

ELVER
You are Glashmikor?

CLARA
Um… sure?

BARBEL
No, no.

ELVER
But she's from above.

ESCOLAR
Does she look like Glashmikor?

CLARA
Hi. Sorry, what's Glashmikor?

ESCOLAR
Our predators. We've fought them off so far, but...

CLARA
Right, yeah, no. I'm not Glashmikor. There's another world on top of yours. No-one knows of you except for me, we didn't expect to find you. I'm a human.

BARBEL
I thought you said you were… a Clara.

CLARA
My name is Clara, my species is human. What's your species?

HOKI
Elonians.

CLARA
That's a nice name. But that's enough of the niceties; we've got a problem.

NOTOTHEN
What is the problem?

CLARA
The thing I came in - that submarine? Yeah, it's going to explode.

NOTOTHEN
Explode?

CLARA
Yeah.

She mimics an explosion with her hands and voice.

ESCOLAR
Yes, we know what an explosion is. Why would you do this to us?

CLARA
We didn't know you were down here! It was an assassination attempt.

Once again, the Elonians glance at each other in confusion.

CLARA
Okay, imagine - Glashmikor traps one of you, and throws you to the bottom of the ocean to explode. That's what happened to me.

ELVER
That wouldn't happen. Glashmikor aren't very intelligent.

Clara groans, burying her face in her hands.

ELVER
But I get what you're saying.

CLARA
Do you think you could defuse the bomb?

HOKI
You want us to stop the explosion?

CLARA
Yes! Please.

HOKI
We can try. Where is it?

NOTOTHEN
Reports came in from 26 centre.

Hoki walks away, a lot easier than Clara can - but obviously, the Elonian has had practice and her species obviously was adapted into doing that. She shoots back up the tunnel.

CLARA
Now what?

NOTOTHEN
You answer our questions about this… "surface." The other world.

CLARA
Gladly. I don't know how much help I can be though… I'm not really from either of your worlds.

NOTOTHEN
Tell us more.

She sits upon a makeshift table, made from rocks, opposite Notothen. [Track 9 ends]

43 INT. VENTS - DAY
The raggedy Elonians prod the Doctor and Taybrock along.

TAYBROCK
Now's the time when you come up with an idea to get us out of this.

DOCTOR
Why don't you come up with something for once?

TAYBROCK
Now? You're still going on about this now?

DOCTOR
Yes, I am!

[Track 10: The Fez and the Portal] Elonian guards suddenly burst in.

MOJARRA
Here they are!

The guards fight the outsiders, before the latter kind run away, leaving the Doctor and Taybrock in the hands of the guards.

MOJARRA
That's right, run!

DOCTOR
Thank you very much.

MOJARRA
Are you okay?

DOCTOR
Just about. Who were they, then?

MOJARRA
The outcasts. Those who opposed our regime at the time of the revolution, when the power was overthrown. They come in and raid us, try to weaken our defences, just for spite. What are you? I've never seen anything like you before. Except for that… girl.

TAYBROCK
The same can be said to you!

DOCTOR
Shush. Did you say girl? Clara? Is she safe?

MOJARRA
She is in the hands of the Committee.

DOCTOR
That's good. Committee, sounds like someone in charge.

MOJARRA
There is no-one in charge here. The Committee are the speakers of our culture. We rule ourselves.

DOCTOR
Interesting culture. Must get a little antsy at times.

MOJARRA
Not at all. People care for each other here. Rarely rebels rise, but the will of the people unite and crush those rebels, banishing them to the Outcasts. But you haven't answered my question. Who are you?

DOCTOR
Travellers. Doctor, Taybrock. From the surface.

MOJARRA
I'm sorry?

DOCTOR
Up there.

He points up.

MOJARRA
I don't follow.

DOCTOR
It doesn't matter. If Clara's in your care, then I guess you know about the bomb?

MOJARRA
We do, and it's being dealt with.

DOCTOR
That's excellent!

MOJARRA
I presume you wish to meet with your... Clara.

DOCTOR
If that's okay.

MOJARRA
Follow me.

The guards escort the Doctor and Taybrock away.

44 INT. BOARDROOM - DAY
Clara looks out of the archway. A few strange figures circle far above the city, which is sparkling. She laughs, wondered by the beauty.

CLARA
Wow. How old is this city?

ESCOLAR
How old is your civilisation? I think that we have lived peacefully without any knowledge of each other. When you return, I'd like to keep it that way.

CLARA
I'm sure that the humans up there won't hurt you.

ESCOLAR
You have told me of a world of industry, pollution and violence. Please, for the sake of this city, keep us out of it.

CLARA
I'll try my best.

The Doctor and Taybrock enter with the guards.

DOCTOR
Clara!

Clara swims over to the Doctor, embracing him.

CLARA
You made it here alright, then?

DOCTOR
Obviously! You seemed to have sorted things out yourself, haven't you?

CLARA
Yeah, didn't need you in the first place.

ELVER
These are your friends?

CLARA
Yes.

DOCTOR
Thank you for looking after her. Now we really should be getting back.

TAYBROCK
I don't think so. We've just got down here. I'm going to find out what this place has on offer.

CLARA
No. This is their world, and you're not spoiling it.

TAYBROCK
You can't tell me what to do!

DOCTOR
Hey, hey. We don't have time to argue. It's a waste of oxygen. We've got to work a way up to the surface. I don't suppose you'd have any fuel of your own?

ELVER
So much you ask of us!

DOCTOR
I know, it's not fair. I'm sorry for having to ask.

BARBEL
If it means that you would leave us alone after this one encounter, I'm sure we can spare some on this one occasion.

DOCTOR
That's so kind of you. You are great hosts!

BARBEL
What is this… fuel?

DOCTOR
Oil. Oil? No?

BARBEL
We do not know of this word.

DOCTOR
Okay, no oil this far down.

CLARA
So do we have a backup plan?

DOCTOR
How about a short-range teleport?

TAYBROCK
Short-range? It's kind of in the name, we won't be able to get back up that far.

CLARA
We've got a sonic screwdriver and an alien genius. I'm sure we can work something out.

TAYBROCK
What if they try to invade?

CLARA
I don't know about you, but I don't think fish people can breathe on the surface. And they don't really like you anyway, the less affiliation they have with you, the better.

NOTOTHEN
We have a transport jump across the city.

DOCTOR
That sounds like a teleport to me. Take us there!

They swim out. [Track 10 ends]

45 EXT. VERANDA - DAY
Hoki is by the pod. She glances up, and sees that the figures are getting closer, and her face turns to one of horror.

46 INT. CITY BRIDGE - DAY
The bridge is a bit more busy now, as the Doctor, Clara and Taybrock follow the guards. Children wave at Clara, and she waves back, meekly.

CLARA
It's a shame that we didn't get to spend much time here.

DOCTOR
Beautiful place - but best left unspoiled, like you said.

[Track 11: The Emperor's Wife] A loud whine blares, and all the public start to panic. The guards prepare to defend.

DOCTOR
What is it? What's wrong?

MOJARRA
Glashmikor alert!

CLARA
The predators.

MOJARRA
The outcasts broke our deterrent system - normally flashes of light keep Glashmikor hunts away, but it's not online! They've never been this close to the city before-

A giant shark-like creature bites into the corridor, and the locals scream.

MOJARRA
Down the bridge, go! I cannot accompany you anymore. I must save my people!

The guards rush off to defend.

47 INT. TRANSPORT STATION - DAY
The Doctor and Taybrock hurry to the transport platform, a lot more hastily than before, but Clara pulls back.

CLARA
We can't just leave them!

TAYBROCK
Yes, we can! This is their battle, not ours!

DOCTOR
I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do for them. There's not much oxygen left, we've got to get this teleport working.

CLARA
Fine, you do that.

Clara turns round and heads back.

DOCTOR
Clara- Clara!

TAYBROCK
Don't worry about her, just fix the teleport! She'll come back.

The Doctor sighs, and starts to look at the machine.

48 INT. CITY BRIDGE - DAY
The city crumbles as the Glashmikor devours it and rips it apart. A tear rolls down her face, then she sees the SS Albatross slowly descending through an archway. She gasps, an idea forming in her head, before swimming over to Mojarra.

CLARA
Mojarra!

MOJARRA
Get out of here!

CLARA
No, you can stop them! My pod, don't defuse it! Fling it towards them, the explosion should scare them off back to their nests or whatever.

MOJARRA
That could… that could work!

Mojarra speaks into her communicator bracelet.

MOJARRA
Everyone! That pod - we need it! We're going to fire it at Glashmikor! Move into action!

She looks back at Clara.

MOJARRA
Thank you. Now go!

Clara nods, then returns to the transport station.

49 INT. TRANSPORT STATION - DAY
The Doctor and Taybrock step onto the platform as Clara swims back in.

DOCTOR
We've got it working - it's now or never. Are you coming?

Clara hesitates, then joins them.

CLARA
Yeah. Let's get out of here!

The Doctor uses the sonic on the teleport.

DOCTOR
Let's hope I got the co-ordinates right this time.

Clara crosses her fingers - but not for hope of her own safety. And in a flash - the three are gone.

50 EXT. CITY - DAY
The SS Albatross is flung towards the Glashmikor, as the countdown on the TNT comes to 3… 2… 1…
BOOM! An eruption of light as the pod explodes alarms the Glashmikor. They speedily scurry away from the city, making their way back to their nest.

51 EXT. PIER - DAY
The three fall onto the pier, moaning.

CLARA
I am… never travelling by teleport again.

The Doctor helps Clara up, whilst Taybrock gets up himself.

DOCTOR
You okay?

CLARA
Yeah. Just a few bruises.

DOCTOR
You know what I mean.

CLARA
The pod exploded - might have scared the Glashmikor away.

DOCTOR
Hopefully.

A young man runs across the pier to them.

ADITYA
What's going on here? I just saw you… appear in a flash of light!

Aditya notices Taybrock, and grins.

ADITYA
Oh, my- You're Taybrock Van Erkbius!

He looks Taybrock up and down.

ADITYA
Did you- Were you just down here? What did you find?

DOCTOR
Excuse us one moment.

The Doctor and Taybrock step aside.

DOCTOR
Taybrock, very soon, you're going to have a lot of press, lots and lots of members of the public asking you what you saw down there. You know what will happen to that civilisation if the humans colonise that area. Just look at this city, look at these people. Subjugated, forced into slavery-

TAYBROCK
They were not slaves!

DOCTOR
Now is your chance to make a difference.

TAYBROCK
I can't not report the truth.

DOCTOR
You could save lives, Taybrock. After ruining so many. It's your choice.

The Doctor and Clara walk away from the pier, leaving Taybrock speechless on the pier.

52 EXT. FACTORY ENTRANCE - DAY
Dozens of camera crews and news reporters stand outside the entrance as Taybrock is handcuffed by authorities and pushed into a futuristic police car.

REPORTER
Taybrock Van Erkbius, CEO of Erkbius Industries, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, just a week after claims that he had travelled to the depths of the sea. There has been a lot of speculation as to what occurred on his expedition, as no official statements have been made, and the build-up to said expedition resulted in Erkbius' first encounter with the judicial system, of which he was found not guilty. Maybe this time, with clear evidence of the offence, the verdict will be different.

53 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor and Clara watch the news report, back in their normal clothes.

CLARA
Do you think he'll tell the world?

DOCTOR
I don't know. I hope not. Let those two separate worlds prosper on their own tracks. So close together, yet completely different. Their own challenges, their own ideals. They'd never work together.

CLARA
I suppose not.

The police car drives away on the news feed. [Track 11 ends]
