1 INT. ANDREW'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
[Track 1: Tasha Lemm] Pan down to reveal a teenage boy - Andrew, with straight blonde hair tucked neatly upon his head, which is pale and skinny. He is glued to his computer screen. His walls are plastered in a light green wallpaper, smart and classy - not really fitting for a boy his age. Beside his desk hangs a calendar and a round clock, both complementing each other in terms of the mature theme his bedroom has been decorated in, and on the opposite wall holds a display case with medals, certificates and posters of him in extra curricular clubs. However, the rest of his room matches the tropes of a 15 year old boy - his twin bed has had the blanket strewn across the mattress, the curtains are drawn despite the sun still settling under the cover of darkness, and his school uniform - which we now see is Coal Hill School's uniform - is unkempt and thrown lazily on the floor, along with a lot of other mess. He has a blank stare as he continuously scrolls down the various articles of the site. The clock can be seen ticking by very quickly until his mother finally knocks on the door.
MRS DAVIS
Andy? What are you doing in there? I hope it's homework… You've been in there for ages. Haven't seen you all day.
Andrew breaks his gaze.
ANDREW
Oh, sorry, mum, I-, I should really pay attention to the time.
Andrew's mother comes into his room.
ANDREW
Speaking of, what is the time?
They both look at the clock.
MRS DAVIS
Just gone 10. You've been in here for hours.
ANDREW
Huh? What the hell? What about my dinner?! Why didn't you come and check on me?!
Andrew's mother has a look of disbelief on her face.
MRS DAVIS
Don't take that tone with me!
ANDREW
Sorry, sorry, sorry, I- I didn't mean that. Really, I swear. Something's wrong with me, I don't know.
MRS DAVIS
You need to get a glass of water, brush your teeth and go straight to bed. It's way past your bedtime.
ANDREW
Yeah… yeah. Brush my teeth. Got it.
Andrew drowsily dawdles out of the room while Andrew's mother looks around, scoffing, at what has become of his room. She begins to bend down and pick up the dirty clothes and place them in the laundry basket in the corner, then glances at his computer screen and sees the heading of the website.
MRS DAVIS
The Bitter Box?
She sits down, has a quick skim through the articles, and closes the computer. Shaking her head disapprovingly, she storms out and slams the door. But the computer quietly groans in a sickly manner, bitterly and aggressively. [Track 1 ends]
ROLL TITLES
2 INT. TARDIS
[Track 2: A Letter To Clara] The Doctor flicks some switches and runs some scans.
DOCTOR
Oi, what on Earth– or should I say, what in space? There's some sort of signal coming from deep space. You see this, Clara?
CLARA
No, I'm over here.
The Doctor's concentration is broken and realises that Clara is not by his side, but in fact leaning schoolwork on the other side of the console, marking them with a bright red pen. She is wearing a light grey cardigan over a dark plaid dress.
DOCTOR
Don't do that!
The Doctor runs over to Clara, and she quickly stands upright, stepping back nervously.
CLARA
Don't do what?
DOCTOR
Your marking! Look how hard your writing is, you'll rip through the page! You'll get red ink all over the console, and then she'll like you even less!
CLARA
She being the TARDIS.
DOCTOR
Obviously.
CLARA
Well, maybe you could've let me get on with my work instead of-
DOCTOR
Instead of showing you all the wonders of time and space?
CLARA
...Obviously.
Clara, sighing, stuffs her marking into her satchel which is residing on the chair.
CLARA
What is it you wanted to show me? Some sort of signal?
The Doctor pulls the screen to Clara's view.
CLARA
Dunno how to read these things – you should teach me how to read these, though. Just wish I had time to.
DOCTOR
Well, there's no better time than now!
CLARA
There is - after I've done my marking?
He ignores her.
DOCTOR
See these squiggly, shaky lines, circles, and texts?
CLARA
Can we just start with one thing?
DOCTOR
See these squiggly lines?
CLARA
Yeah, I think I'm familiar with those. For the audio, right?
DOCTOR
Hah, y'know what, I think we should do this another time.
CLARA
That bad, huh?
DOCTOR
It's better I decipher this signal first. Maybe then I'll teach you. It's a bit complicated.
CLARA
Ah, fair enough. If you're busy, then can I just go home and finish this? No distractions, no distress calls, no Judoon, no ghosts. Just a bit of peace and quiet and maybe some wine.
DOCTOR
Alright, then.
He spins the lever and the TARDIS lands rather briefly. He speaks sullenly.
DOCTOR
Good night.
CLARA
Night!
Clara leaves.
DOCTOR
Hm.
He continues to decode the signal and, after a while, it transforms into Gallifreyan text.
DOCTOR
Aha! Time to work out the retrograde and source some co-ordinates!
He types speedily into the console, then glances back up to the monitor.
DOCTOR
Dead end…
His face falls. [Track 2 ends]
3 INT. CLARA'S CLASSROOM - NIGHT
[Track 3: What Is His Name?] The bell rings, signalling a new day, and with it, Clara is now in teaching mode - Her adventurous lifestyle has been relegated to the back of her mind, like the solid black leather jacket on her chair, and now where's a dark blue flowery blouse and skintight jeans tucked into her boots. Instead of a red pen in her hand, she grasps tightly onto a black marker, scribing different sentences onto a whiteboard. Andrew is in attendance. She looks at it, pausing for a moment, then mutters to herself.
CLARA
Maybe I do write too hard...
She spins around to the class.
CLARA
Now, it seems that we need to go over the basics once again, because looking at your last papers, some of you still need to vary your sentence structures.
Andrew whispers quietly.
ANDREW
Not me.
CLARA
Can any of you tell me what type of sentence this is?
Andrew, bemused with the simplicity of the task, raises his hand eagerly.
ANDREW
Compound.
CLARA
Correct. How about…
She scribbles on the board, a little lighter this time.
CLARA
This?
ANDREW
Complex.
CLARA
Please raise your hand.
ANDREW
Sorry.
Andrew raises his hand
ANDREW
Complex.
CLARA
Please, wait for me to call you.
She hesitates, then her mouth glints as she recognises Andrew's talent.
CLARA
You seem quite competitive today, Andrew! Coming out of your shell?
Andrew goes quiet, and her smile fades.
CLARA
Okay, how about this sentence?
Andrew raises his hand. Another student shouts out the answer.
JONATHAN
Compound.
ANDREW
Hey, he didn't even raise his hand!
CLARA
He's supposed to. Jonathan, please raise your hand.
JONATHAN
Okay, then.
As Clara turns back to the board, Andrew regards Jonathan with a flash of rage, his eyes squinting and his teeth grinding. He sniggers quietly.
CLARA
How about this sentence? This one'll be a bit more tricky, so be careful.
Andrew raises his hand. Clara picks another student.
KELVIN
Complex?
CLARA
Nope. Anyone else?
Andrew continues to raise his hand, annoyance growing on his expression, but Clara picks another student.
LESLIE
Compound-Complex?
CLARA
Correct!
ANDREW
I was raising my hand! Why didn't you pick me?!
CLARA
Andrew, you've already answered most of today's questions. I need to give other students a chance. Loving the enthusiasm, though!
ANDREW
I haven't answered many questions this year, though.
CLARA
Well, I appreciate that you're giving me what's essentially a year's worth of answers, and it's great that you're putting as much effort into participating with the rest of the class as you do in your work, but this is a new lesson, and everyone needs to have a shot at answering!
Clara smiles and returns to the class.
ANDREW
Yes, ma'am.
CLARA
You lot seem to be dealing with it well here - why not in exams eludes me - but final question. What's this sentence?
Andrew raises his hand. Jonathan, mockingly, decides to shout out the answer again.
JONATHAN
Compound!
Andrew smashes his hand onto his desk out of frustration.
CLARA
Jonathan, please just raise your hand, it seems we've got some competition going on today; let's not let things boil ov-
ANDREW
I swear, Jonathan, you're bloody dead!
Andrew then slaps his hand over his mouth, realising what he had just said.
CLARA
I think I'm going to need to speak to the two of you after school today. No need to worry, I'll just help the two of you… sort things out.
ANDREW
Of course.
Andrew gives a bright, hearty smile to Clara. When she looks away, he grits his teeth once again and gives a penetrating gaze upon Jonathan, who chuckles. [Track 3 ends]
4 EXT. PLAYGROUND - DAY
Andrew is sitting on a bench, pressing a blackberry mobile phone to his ear - a phone which seems common with the other kids messing around around him - and listening to his mother berate him for his detention.
ANDREW
Okay- okay, okay. I'm sorry. No, I can't - It's not my fault, it's the playground, everyone's loud on the playground. I know I'm not everyone, but I'm not being loud, am I? I'm not being-!
He glances over to see Jonathan swaggering across the playground with his mates, spinning a football in the air repeatedly.
ANDREW
Look, I get you're mad. I think this is better to do face to face, don't you? Right. I'll see you tonight.
[Track 4: Can't Win] He hangs up, then storms over to Jonathan, shoving him, but having little effect on him, for Jonathan is a fairly burly, muscular kid and Andrew is a stereotypical nerd type. He and his mates laugh.
JONATHAN
What was that meant to do?
ANDREW
Did you seriously have to do that?
JONATHAN
Do what? It was all you, Toy Story.
ANDREW
My name isn't Toy Story!
He pushes all his weight against Jonathan again, but this time it only aggravates him. He grabs Andrew's blazer and pulls him close.
JONATHAN
Do that again, I dare you.
The tension between the two is palpable, and the group falls silent - even a few other students of different years on the playground have noticed. Andrew's clenched fists droop, and he steps away.
JONATHAN
Like I said, your fault. You need to control yourself.
[Track 4 ends] The boys strut further onto the playground, and Andrew just stares at them, with an expression of regret, disappointment and anger.
5 EXT. BINS - DAY
The atmosphere of the school is a lot quieter, and it's obvious that school has now ended for the students and his detention is over. Behind the school, in a rougher, dirtier area that the teachers would rather students avoid, Andrew is sobbing, kicking the bins, denting them slightly but not enough. He slips down onto the floor, his tears rolling into his open mouth. Clara's voice echoes in his head.
CLARA
How about this? When we return on Monday, I want the two of you to, maybe, work together in class. As you both know, I'll be giving a group assignment on that day, so I think that'll be just the right time to get to know each other.
ANDREW
Stupid.
[Track 5: He Was There 0:00 - 3:53] He takes out his phone, and reads the new contact that is in his phone - Jonathan Birkenshaw, staring at it for a while, then moves over to the internet and types in "The Bitter Box".
6 INT. TARDIS
Clara enters the Tardis as the Doctor is sitting in his armchair reading.
DOCTOR
Ah, Clara!
CLARA
Hiya. Boy, have I had a day.
DOCTOR
Well, I know something that'll cheer you up! Want to learn how to read some signals? Sorry about not teaching you last night. I thought that one was more complex.
CLARA
Um, sure! I guess now's the time!
DOCTOR
Right! Now, here's something interesting. As I was doing a scan earlier today, the TARDIS detected another one of those signals, only it was directed at another planet.
CLARA
Another one of what signals? Signals like... the one from last night?
DOCTOR
Exactly.
CLARA
So, what do you think it means?
DOCTOR
I think it means it's time for you to learn to read!
CLARA
Brilliant. But didn't you say it was too complex?
DOCTOR
Why would I have said that?
CLARA
Why would you? Such a mystery(!) Right. Where do we begin?
He grins, and Clara looks concerned.
CUT TO:
Hours have passed, and Clara types into the console. The TARDIS returns with a rewarding ding. She whoops.
DOCTOR
Congratulations, you've deciphered your first signal! You know how to read.
CLARA
Funny, I was just saying that to my bottom set Year 7s earlier today. Does it normally take that long?
DOCTOR
Not if you're an expert.
CLARA
Oh, then I'll stick to reading English from now on.
DOCTOR
Check out where it leads tomorrow, then?
CLARA
Sorry, I've gotta create an assignment for my classes on Monday. I'll probably be working on making that assignment for the weekend. You can check it out without me! Tell me about it!
DOCTOR
Yep, I'll do so.
CLARA
Alright. Guess that's my cue to leave. See ya later!
Clara exits the box, and the Doctor swivels his head around to the scanner.
DOCTOR
Benintas, 150 light years away. Ooh, fun planet. Advanced civilization! This should make for an interesting story!
He enters some buttons, pulls some switches, and pulls the lever. The TARDIS takes off with a huge gusto, the engines roaring and the time rotor fluctuating up and down, glowing immensely.
7 EXT. MOUNTAIN RIDGE - NIGHT
The TARDIS materialises on the lower part of a mountain in a dilapidated landscape similar to that of the Scottish Highlands, belittled with debris and pervasive destruction. The remains of the buildings here appear to show the once-civilization's architecture similar to that of the Romans, mixed with futurism. The Doctor walks out into the brisk air in awe at the dazzling view of the city in turmoil from high above. The sky is dark and cloudy, with thunder being heard in the distance.
DOCTOR
Benintas. What a sight. Looks like someone's been busy..
He continues to stare out for a few more moments. He looks to the ground, surprised to just see just dirt, ash, dried lava and virtually no plant life for quite a distance. He notices a small stream of black lava streaming down from some part higher up on the mountain. He gets closer to it and feels heat radiating against him.
DOCTOR
Natrocarbonatite. Low viscosity, cools fast. Extremely rare. Someone could make a fortune out of this.
He makes his way down the mountain in the direction of the city, situated in a vast valley. He hears some disturbing shouting in the distance, signifying some signs of life, much to his disdain of the freakish sound.
8 EXT. BENINTAS CITY - NIGHT
He walks down an ash covered street, where hovering chariots lay abandoned, broken glass littering the roads, and, notably, some occasional dried splatters of blood, appearing on the ground and walls. He eventually enters a street intersection and comes across a fresh pool of blood and uses the sonic screwdriver.
DOCTOR
Humanoid, genderless, height comprarable to that of humans.
A sense of unease sets in as he can hear many heavy footsteps approaching him.
DOCTOR
I'm not alone on this street.
He slowly edges back towards the TARDIS, his pace quickening and then turning into a run.. Suddenly, he hears loud war cries and shouts coming from behind him. He sees fairly large (almost 2 metres tall), muscular, somewhat hairy, pale humanoid beings charging at him. They are heavily geared, with ammunition strapped around their bare chests, sporting dark coloured cargo trousers. Their voices are very low-pitched. One grunts loudly as they throw an explosive-tipped spear to the left of the Doctor, which explodes upon impact. He quickly gets up and runs onto the street perpendicular to him. He uses the building's pillars as protection from the gunfire and explosive weapons. He arrives at the next intersection and bumps into another humanoid being, only that this one is roughly about his height, less muscular, less pale, and is wearing what one may consider to be a more "proper" military uniform. They both fall to the ground. They both quickly get up and stare at each other in the eye in shock.
AEUMUS
You're not Ranoto!
DOCTOR
Ranoto?
AEUMUS
Are you even- There's no time. If you want to run, now's your chance!
Aeumus throws a grenade at the barbarians, who scatter for cover behind the pillars on both sides of the street. Aeumus manages to shoot a few of them, some dying from the grenade.
AEUMUS
I'll hold them off while Alva and Jinx cover you!
One of the barbarians come out from behind the pillars and lobs an explosive spear at the Doctor. Jinx knocks it out of the air with the throw of his trident, hitting a wall and detonating, causing the building to partially collapse.
JINX
Go, go, go!
The three of them make haste down the street perpendicular to them.
DOCTOR
Wanna tell me what's going on here?
JINX
Sure - but not now. I've got questions too, you know.
DOCTOR
Well, let's find a place of safety and share what information we have. Got one?
JINX
Course I do - Where do you think I'm taking you, Hades?
DOCTOR
Wouldn't be the first time.
Jinx looks confused, then focuses on running. [Track 5 ends]
7 INT. CLARA'S CLASSROOM - DAY
Some time has passed on Earth. Class is in progress. Jonathan and Andrew are working together on the assignment. Jonathan is speeding through the assignment.
ANDREW
Jonathan, could you slow down? We should be working on it together.
JONATHAN
Don't tell me you don't know this stuff. I know you're not dumb. I want to get this assignment done as fast as possible.
ANDREW
Since when have you cared about getting work done?
JONATHAN
Since when have you been an ass? Besides, it's not about the work, it's about where I can go after the work's done.
ANDREW
We're in class, where are you gonna go?
JONATHAN
...Toilet.
ANDREW
You could just ask her to go.
JONATHAN
I don't need the toilet, idiot.
ANDREW
Then why'd you say it?
The pair squabble, then both just shut each other up. [Track 6: Save Us]
JONATHAN
Fine. If you really want, I'll just sit back and watch you do it.
ANDREW
You're missing the point, Jonathan, we're BOTH supposed to be doing the work!
JONATHAN
Well, we are both doing the work. Only it's just been me so far. You're being a bit lazy.
ANDREW
Shut up.
Andrew's eyes narrow, twitching a little.
JONATHAN
I don't want to cause any problems like I apparently did last week, Toy Story.
Clara takes notice at the situation beginning to unfold.
ANDREW
Then we work on it… together.
JONATHAN
We technically already are working together.
Clara gets up from her desk to go check on the two.
ANDREW
You know what? I'm done. I'm done playing the nice guy.
JONATHAN
What are you going to do, try and push me over again? Like that worked.
ANDREW
You're inferior! I've had enough of you and your "Toy Story" and your stupid jokes!
Andrew slams his fist over Jonathan's head, knocking him over. Andrew leaps onto Jonathan to hit him more, but Clara intervenes, pulling him back.
ANDREW
He is useless! He's trash! Disgusting piece of-
CLARA
Andrew!
ANDREW
None of you get it! Look at this!
He wrestles himself out of Clara's grip and picks up the worksheet.
ANDREW
It's lazy! He's sloppy and wastes his life! He's a disgrace, he doesn't deserve to live! He should be exterminated!
He rips up the sheet and charges at his victim again. Two students help Clara pull Andrew away from Jonathan, who's on the ground, staring at Andrew, mortified and crawling away, bleeding from his forehead. Andrew shrieks savagely and inhumanely. [Track 6 ends]
9 INT. CAVERN
[Track 7: 2.47 Billion 0:00 - 2:55] The Doctor, Alva, and Jinx are resting in a large, densely populated cavern near the entrance. People live in small tents, and UV lights hang from the top of the cavern's ceiling.
DOCTOR
So… explain what happened?
ALVA
We attempted to save our scout, Ranoto, but found you instead. How about you explain yourself? Who are you and where did you come from? You can't be from our planet, can you? Otherwise you'd know what's going on. So how can you know our language?
DOCTOR
You're very quick. I like you. What's your name?
ALVA
Alva. Answer my questions please.
DOCTOR
Ah, yes. Just call me the Doctor. I detected a signal which led me to this planet. Also, I'm from Earth– well, not really- not even originally, anyway, but it's a nice place. It's where I was when I detected this signal. It's about 150 light years from here. And I have a translator. It's up on the ridge. Little blue box, says police on the front. Don't suppose you've seen it?
ALVA
Slow down. Light years?
DOCTOR
Ah, right, you're not familiar with that measurement. Well, to keep it short, that would mean it would have been a long time before that signal made contact. 150 years in our time. I'm sure that a year and day are roughly about the same time on this planet, so that should give you an idea. Now, what's up with the lot that attacked us?
ALVA
Jinx, I'm tired. Mind explaining?
JINX
Um, sure. Anyway, a long time ago, years before any of us were even born, a news channel called New Ethos spontaneously appeared. It spouted stuff about racial superiority, violence, or something, but I've never watched it 'cos I wasn't alive then. It gradually became more popular, and more popular, and more popular, then…
Jinx imitates an explosion sound.
JINX
It just went out of control. Those who watched it started rioting, looting, and murdering those they deemed inferior. The majority of the population unfortunately watched New Ethos, and so they killed lots of us. We're much smaller in comparison. Just a fraction.
DOCTOR
Who do they deem inferior? There's you lot who look very different… smaller, tanner, but, if not everyone watched it, then I don't see anyone who looks like them in this cave.
JINX
They were never that big and tall in the first place. A radical group got hold of a weapon and created seismic waves to induce a volcanic eruption. The volcanic clouds blotted out the sun, leading us to hide in this cave, while those barbarians stayed on the surface. Over the last however many years, they seem to have adapted to it, getting a bit larger, paler, and hairier. Nowadays, we aren't sure if they're prolonging the cold by artificially inducing more eruptions, or if the volcano is actually just active. It's just rumours now.
ALVA
I should also add that we have no idea what they're eating up there. Virtually all of the plants on the surface are dead. Luckily for us, we've brought some plants into the cave and set up a farm in here before they all died out on the surface. See those lights on the ceiling? Those are what keep us warm.
Alva gives a deep sigh.
DOCTOR
And that person… Ranoto?
ALVA
Like I said, they're one of our scouts. They were supposed to spy on them, keep tabs on what the big folks're doing. Ranoto hadn't returned for a while, so we were sent to check to see where they were. They're prolly dead, or about to be. Good thing I didn't know them that well, otherwise I'd be sad.
DOCTOR
Dark.
ALVA
Eh, yeah, you're right 'bout that. I'm not the most empathetic person. Can't be in turbulent times like these.
Aeumus enters the cave.
ALVA
Aeumus! You're back!
AEUMUS
Those guys almost killed me! Hell, it's not often we have engagements like those. Hello again.
DOCTOR
Hello.
JINX
This is the Doctor. He's an idiot.
DOCTOR
Sums me up.
Suddenly, static can be heard on their radios, and then a deep, disturbing voice shouts into the radio.
KATYL
Your futile attempt at a rescue has failed. We have captured yet another one of your disgraceful kind! What's their name? Ranoto? Ranoto, do you want to give them your little scout report?
RANOTO (oc)
I'm sorry. I've failed you.
Horrific sounds of bone crushing can suddenly be heard over the radio, followed by sounds of screaming and a gunshot.
KATYL
Hm, I guess you could say Ranoto was just dying to give that message! Haha! Have a good day, and remember, that you'll all be dead one day, and this world will be pure!
A maniacal laughter can be heard before warlike sentiments can be heard chanted in the background, and the radio is off. [Track 7 ends] Shortly after, crying can be heard coming from a tent not too far from the four. The Doctor has a sick look on his face.
AEUMUS
That's probably Janota, Ranoto's sibling. Final family member. Their guardian died earlier this year. It's been a bad year. I grew up with Janota. I can't believe Ranoto died such a terrible death, and that they will not be able to see the day where we finally free those barbarians from their… barbaric mindsets.
The Doctor's face still shows a look of disgust. [Track 8: You Saved It]
DOCTOR
They do this often? You don't look too… disturbed, Aeumus. Jinx? Alva?
ALVA
It's common. Daily, I'd say. Making good use of our stolen radios, alright.
DOCTOR
Daily? Not much they've got out there, eh? But I assume they've still got that news channel. New Ethos, you said? Say, do you know if those barbarians still watch that?
AEUMUS
Yeah, according to our scouts, they do. Besides patrolling the city, that's the only thing they do. Just watching New Ethos. And sending us death threats, as part of their daily routine. It's the only channel there is nowadays.
DOCTOR
What if I told you that Earth received a similar signal to the one that this planet has been receiving? I haven't seen any barbaric uprising on Earth, but it could be an early sign of what's soon to come.
AEUMUS
A similar signal? Are you trying to say that New Ethos isn't being hosted here on Benintas? Hell, that explains a lot! We've launched so many expeditions to find the HQ of New Ethos, but all have ended in failure. What you're trying to say is that some aliens created New Ethos? But how? There are so many reasons I can think of that would go against such an idea.
DOCTOR
Haha, ooh, just wait till you see what I travel in. Come with me, and we'll end this once and for all.
AEUMUS
This better not be a trap.
DOCTOR
Hand on my hearts, I'll stop what's going on.
AEMUS
Then let's move it.
The Doctor nods, before looking back at the radio, frowning. [Track 8 ends]
10 INT. CLARA'S CLASSROOM - DAY
It's now later in the day with school having ended about an hour ago. Clara presses some buttons on the phone.
CLARA
Hello?
Mrs Davis speaks in a monotonous, slightly hostile tone.
MRS DAVIS
Who am I speaking to?
CLARA
This is Miss Oswald, your son Andrew's English teacher.
MRS DAVIS
Yes, we're familiar with you. Andy loves having you as a teacher.
CLARA
Aww, that's so lovely! I just have to ask you about Andrew's behaviour today. I'm sure you know that Andrew is quiet, studious, and an overall star student. But recently, as you may have heard, he has been acting a little… different. Are you aware of any issues he may be having? Has he been okay at home?
MRS DAVIS
Yes, everything's been fine at home. I don't believe he has any issues, and, furthermore, I see nothing wrong with what he did today.
CLARA
I beg your pardon?
MRS DAVIS
You're a magnificent teacher, but I don't understand why you wouldn't just let Andrew have that rat exterminated?
CLARA
Excuse me?
MRS DAVIS
Yes, that subhuman trash. You know who I'm talking about.
CLARA
No, I don't. Nobody here at our school is "subhuman trash". Try again?
MRS DAVIS
You're not busy today, are you?
CLARA
I do have to grade today's group assignments, but there is no rush to do so. Why?
MRS DAVIS
I'd like you to come over to our place and perhaps we could have a friendly discussion about these recent events.
CLARA
I've never been requested to do such a thing before. Are you certain about that?
MRS DAVIS
Well, now's your only chance I'm giving you. It's now or never. I will see you there.
[Track 9: 2.47 Billion 2:54 - 4:28] Mrs Davis hangs up before Clara can respond. She is left speechless, scratching her head and shocked at the call she's just received.
11 EXT. BENINTAS CITY - NIGHT
The quartet are sneaking around the city in the direction of the TARDIS. They whisper to each other.
AEUMUS
A translator? Any language in the universe?
DOCTOR
Yep.
AEUMUS
It even syncs the lips?
DOCTOR
Also yep.
AEUMUS
Wow. That's some advanced technology. How fast is your ship?
DOCTOR
It's called the TARDIS. Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. It can go to any place you could imagine in just a few seconds.
AEUMUS
Fascinating...
They stumble across the same intersection where the incident from earlier occurred. The Doctor and Aeumus peek around the corner and see that the barbarians are moving barbarian bodies into a pile in the middle of the street.
AEUMUS
It's a tradition here on Benintas. When one of our kind dies, they are burned around the same location they died as soon as possible. If it's not possible to burn the body at the exact site of death, then they will be burned at the closest site wherever possible. Fortunately, they still treat our rebel bodies with respect, no matter how much they hate us. Ranoto's body was likely burned already.
DOCTOR
So they still have some humanity left in them.
AEUMUS
There's still hope.
They wait a bit. They watch as the barbarians move the last body into the pile. They then douse the bodies in a flammable liquid and light it on fire. With the barbarians' focus is on the burning, the quartet bow their heads, honouring the fallen, before quickly and stealthily make their way across the intersection. They continue onwards for a bit until they finally reach the mountain ridge where the TARDIS is situated.
12 EXT. MOUNTAIN RIDGE - NIGHT
The Doctor helps Jinx up to join the others.
DOCTOR
There she is. She's a beauty, isn't she? Up there, about halfway up.
JINX
She? What do you mean she?
DOCTOR
A pronoun. She, her. For the female gender.
ALVA
Gender? What's that?
DOCTOR
Oh, right, genderless. I'll explain that later. C'mon.
They hike their way up the mountain all the way to the TARDIS
DOCTOR
Now here's the exciting part. Ready?
He opens the door to the TARDIS. The three both look into it in awe. [Track 9 ends]
13 INT. COAL HILL SECRETARY'S OFFICE - NIGHT
Clara knocks on the door.
SECRETARY
Come in.
Clara enters the room and sits down on the chair.
SECRETARY
I assume this has to do with Andrew Davis?
CLARA
Yes.
SECRETARY
Figures. Is he alright? I couldn't help but notice that when his mum came to pick him up from the main office, she caused quite a scene.
CLARA
I spoke to Mrs Davis. Strangest thing. She talked rather sedately. Robotic, even. She referred to one of my students, Jonathan Birkenshaw, in a very nasty manner, yet, sounded so calm while doing so. Now she wants me to go to their place and have a "friendly discussion".
SECRETARY
And I assume that's what you're here for?
CLARA
Yes, I'll need to know their address
The secretary types into their keyboard.
SECRETARY
Are you sure about this? It doesn't sound too safe.
CLARA
I'm sure.
The secretary then writes down onto a sticky pad.
SECRETARY
Here's their address.
Clara takes the sticky pad and gets up from her chair.
SECRETARY
Good luck.
Clara chuckles at this remark.
CLARA
Haha, thank you.
Her eyes are fixed on the address, frowning a little.
14 EXT. FLAT ENTRANCE - DAY
[Track 10: Over Your Shoulder] Clara arrives at the steps of the Davis family's flat and takes a deep breath. She walks up the steps, and upon inspection of the front door, notices that it is just slightly open.
CLARA
Hello? Anyone here? Hm.
She opens the door further and cautiously makes her way in.
15 INT. ANDREW'S HOME - DAY
The home is eerily silent. She notices an open laptop sitting on the small, round dining table. She approaches it slowly and notices the headline of the website.
CLARA
Bitter Box? Must be a new thing.
She tilts herself forward to take a look at the site. The structure of it is reminiscent to that of any generic news website. She scrolls down, going through various articles and images. Each headline appears to have a sort of pull to them with very strong language. The text has a very robotic tone to them. Clara feels a sense of adrenaline pumping, and a sense of fury she had never felt before begins to overtake her. She quickly shuts the laptop. The rage subsides.
CLARA
No, no, this isn't right.
She slowly edges her way towards the door when suddenly someone enters from another room.
MRS DAVIS
Welcome, Miss Oswald. Trying to leave early?
CLARA
Oh, I- I assumed no one was here. Sorry.
MRS DAVIS
Oh, well, we were just busy preparing something.
CLARA
Oh? Preparing what? I didn't hear any noises when I got here.
MRS DAVIS
Just busy preparing plans for what to do with you. After we've dealt with you.
CLARA
Deal with me?
MRS DAVIS
We've unanimously decided that for your actions of stopping Andy from destroying that fool, you shall die. No one should get in his way. Ever.
Andrew and Mr Davis appear from behind Mrs Davis, both holding blunt objects.
CLARA
Woah, woah. I mean, are you sure? I thought you said I was his favourite teacher. You wouldn't want to kill his favourite teacher, would you?
She chuckles, obviously extremely anxious.
MRS DAVIS
Was. You were his favourite teacher. And we have all decided that death is the best option for you. This world will be rid of inferior beings such as yourself.
CLARA
Right, well, it was nice getting to meet you and I enjoyed the lovely chat. I just think it's time for me to get back to my place. See ya!
She sprints out, quickly moving down the steps and makes haste across the pavement. Mr Davis and Andrew pursue her with their blunt objects. [Track 10 ends]
15 INT. TARDIS
[Track 11: Kidnapping and the Parliament 0:00 - 1:34] The Doctor is pressing some buttons on the console.
AEUMUS
Incredible. Its interior dimensions exceed the dimensions of the exterior.
DOCTOR
Everyone says that when they enter the TARDIS for the first time. Well, not exactly that but you get the gist.
The Doctor pulls the lever and the TARDIS dematerialises.
AEUMUS
How is this even possible? This should be impossible.
DOCTOR
Anything is possible with the TARDIS.
JINX
Anything?
DOCTOR
Pretty much.
ALVA
Can it give me superpowers?
DOCTOR
Okay, not anything. Almost anything. Okay, well, actually sort of. It can travel in time and anywhere in the universe, or even in a different universe. But it's not meant to travel in different universes, so forget I said that.
AEUMUS
And are we in flight now?
DOCTOR
Yes. I'm just picking up my companion. She'll help us.
JINX
There, you said it again! What is that? What is "she"?
DOCTOR
You'll spot the difference when she gets here.
JINX
Alright, then.
The TARDIS lands.
DOCTOR
And we're here! Her name is Clara, by the way.
The Doctor walks up to the door and proceeds to open it.
DOCTOR
Let's see how she's do– uh oh.
He looks out from the door and sees her being chased.
CLARA
Doctor! Move out of the way!
Clara sprints into the TARDIS and quickly shuts the door behind her. Pounding and shouting can be heard coming from the outside.
DOCTOR
It better not be what I think it is.
CLARA
What?
DOCTOR
I just came from Benintas with these fine people. Long story short, a news channel called New Ethos turned much of the population into indoctrinated savages. These are some of the people who have been rebelling against those barbarians.
He points to the trio.
DOCTOR
And you?
CLARA
A student of mine just tried to kill me!
DOCTOR
Oh.
CLARA
I think it's something to do with this website called The Bitter Box, cos I felt something I hadn't felt before.
DOCTOR
Like what?
CLARA
Rage. Pure rage. It's like if Twitter riled people up! Actually, never mind. The mother came in, backed by the father and the student. Then that's when I started getting chased. It looks like they've all ended up reading The Bitter Box, which explains why they're all savages.
DOCTOR
Oh, dear. Alright, let's get to the bottom of this.
He presses some buttons, runs some scans, and after a bit, looks into the monitor.
DOCTOR
It appears these signals are emanating from somewhere in deep space. They appear to be coming from a ship. A flying saucer, in fact.
CLARA
But who's doing it?
DOCTOR
Just working it out now, cross referencing the technology with the TARDIS database...
The Doctor pauses a moment.
DOCTOR
...No. Not good.
CLARA
Who?
DOCTOR
Daleks.
CLARA
No. You can't be serious.
AEUMUS
Daleks?
DOCTOR
The worst things to ever happen to the universe. They're hate-filled emotionless shells who think they're supreme. But they aren't.
CLARA
They invaded a while back, they ruled Earth for months. I thought they were all gone.
DOCTOR
They never are. But when there's a Dalek plan, we'll always be there to stop them.
The Doctor pushes some buttons and pulls the switch. The TARDIS dematerialises. [Track 11 ends]
16 INT. DALEK SAUCER CENTRAL HUB
[Track 12: Finding Jackie] The TARDIS materialises. The Doctor and the crew walk out from it, having arrived around the corner in the central chamber. A few Daleks are hovering around the chamber. The Doctor spots a Dalek mutant in the centre of the hub, at about his eye level, hooked up to many wires.
CLARA
You were right. Daleks. I thought I'd never see them again.
DOCTOR
Just stay quiet, and we'll be fine.
AEUMUS
They look... weird.
DOCTOR
Trust me, you won't be saying that when you're face-to-face with one. Not if you want to live. That must be what's sending the signals.
He points to the Dalek mutant. Jinx gets excited.
JINX
Then let's take it down!
DOCTOR
No, wait. Jinx, no!
The Doctor puts his arm in front of Jinx, holding him back. One Dalek notices them.
DALEK
Intruders! Intruders! Intruders! Identify yourselves!
CLARA
Doctor!
DOCTOR
Clara, stay by my side!
Alva panics. They all sprint into the central chamber, and are surrounded.
DALEK
Stop!
ALVA
I'm Alva. This is Jinx, that's Aeumus.
DOCTOR
No need for that, Alva.
The Dalek scans each of them one by one and finally scans the Doctor.
DALEK
You are enemies of the Daleks! You will all obey! You will be taken prisoner!
The Doctor looks back at the trio.
DOCTOR
Whatever you do, don't try and run away. You'll have to listen to them.
CLARA
It's happening again, isn't it?
DOCTOR
Clara, don't panic. We'll get out of this, I promise.
The five are then escorted out of the room, and normal operations resume. [Track 12 ends]
17 INT. DALEK SAUCER COMMAND CENTRE
[Track 13: We Don't Need To Land] They enter a small chamber, throbbing with the heartbeat of every Dalek. Wires hang down from the ceiling, attached to the bronze walls displaying a hexagon pattern. Two Daleks sit at the other end of the chamber. One of the Daleks is coloured completely black, while the other has an alternating pattern of black and gold and a black dome.
DOCTOR
Ah, it's been awhile since I've seen these types of Daleks. Lovely to see you guys again. Although I don't mean you as individuals, I just mean the casings.
He looks at the Dalek Supreme.
DOCTOR
Love the all-black you've got there, it really fits you. Not exactly original, though.
He then looks at the Saucer Commander.
DOCTOR
Nice, rocking the alternating pattern? Somewhat unique. Still pretty cool.
SAUCER COMMANDER
Silence.
DOCTOR
What? Don't like compliments? Ah, right, you don't care. You have no emotions aside from anger. And I will not allow you to make other civilizations the same way you are. I know what you Daleks are up to with your "Bitter Box" and "New Ethos".
DALEK SUPREME
We are at war.
DOCTOR
Yeah. And? Anything new?
DALEK SUPREME
We will turn everyone into a Dalek. Each planet will be engaged in civil war.
DOCTOR
Okay, go on.
DALEK SUPREME
They will exterminate all those who are undesirable for the war. The strongest surviving beings will be used in our war against the Movellans.
DOCTOR
Sorry to spoil it for you, but that war will never end.
DALEK SUPREME
The Movellans will be destroyed.
DOCTOR
Don't get too hopeful.
SAUCER COMMANDER
You shall not question our supremacy! We are the ultimate beings! All else are inferior!
DALEK SUPREME
Inferior beings will be exterminated!
DOCTOR
Bring it on.
The Doctor quickly takes off his purple coat and throws it over the Dalek Supreme's head. Jinx then almost immediately takes out a switchblade and stabs the saucer commander in the eye.
DOCTOR
Run!
The quintet swiftly make their way down the hall through the other side of the chamber. Alva, at the back of the pack, is ultimately blasted before they can make it around the corner into the hall. Jinx looks back to see Alva falling onto the ground screaming, dying as they hit the floor.
18 INT. DALEK SAUCER HALLWAY
Jinx stops, screaming.
JINX
Alva, no! Alva!
AEUMUS
Keep running, soldier! We'll mourn them later! We'll honor Alva by defeating these Daleks once and for all!
The Daleks finally hover their way into the hallway. Their laser blasts miss and hit the walls, sending sparks everywhere.
19 INT. DALEK SAUCER CENTRAL HUB
The four arrive at the central hub.
DOCTOR
There it is. This must be the mutant that's sending the signals.
JINX
Let me kill that thing! I want revenge! I absolutely hate these hideous things with a passion!
DOCTOR
No. That's not right. We need to figure out what to do. Simply unplugging it wouldn't reverse the effects. We need something to counteract the hatred and rage that the savages at your home have.
AEUMUS
But why is there a creature connected to the wires? Couldn't they just program a machine to do it for them?
DOCTOR
That's the thing. They could have done that. But they didn't. There's a reason why they're using a mutant. Any ideas, Clara?
Clara thinks for a moment.
CLARA
The wires. They must be transmitting the mutant's hatred for all living things through them. Its thoughts and mind are being transmitted and formatted into the appropriate language and format for each planet they're sent to.
DOCTOR
You're right. And those thoughts must have telepathically made their way into the reader's brain every time they looked through the screen. We have to unplug the mutant and have one of us take their place. Any volunteers?
There is silence between the group.
JINX
Come on, one of us needs to volunteer. I know I'm not volunteering. I think those Daleks have filled me with enough hatred for them, it'll probably just override all my thoughts. We're lucky that the Daleks are slow. If they weren't we'd all be dead.
There are a few more seconds of silence.
AEUMUS
I shall do it.
DOCTOR
Perfect. You are truly a good soul. A rebel against hatred of any kind. A respectful person to all. I'm proud of you.
AEUMUS
Thank you.
Jinx carefully takes the Dalek mutant out from the wires. Aeumus kicks down the podium the Dalek mutant sat upon. He plugs the wires onto his head and shuts his eyes.
CLARA
Channel peace, Aeumus. Think of your morals and values. Think of love and compassion.
Rather than the wires pulsing red and orange beams, they're now flickering with blue and white lights. [Track 13 ends]
20 INT. ANDREW'S HOME - DAY
[Track 14: This Time There's Three Of Us 2:20 - 5:30] Andrew and his family can be seen trashing their home, chanting warlike sentiments. They suddenly all freeze and stop what they're doing. They then proceed to look around at each other.
MRS DAVIS
Why the hell are we trashing the house?
ANDREW
Wait, why were we doing this in the first place? Whose idea was that?
MR DAVIS
Wasn't mine, that's for sure.
MRS DAVIS
Teenagers these days. You need to realise the consequences to your actions. Good thing you didn't damage anything valuable. Although all this is probably about 500 pounds in damage, so it's going to cost quite a bit out of your pocket money.
ANDREW
Me? But-
MR DAVIS
We all-
MRS DAVIS
Go to your room.
She cringes at the damage to their home, whilst Andrew recoils at the comment.
21 EXT. BENINTAS CITY - DAY
Some barbarians can be seen skirmishing with a troop of rebel soldiers. Hateful propaganda being shouted through a speaker is suddenly replaced with words of unity and respect for all others. The barbarians suddenly throw down their weapons over their barriers.
KATYL
What… We surrender! We won't be fighting this war anymore! We promise! Please, stop shooting!
The rebels stop shooting at the barbarians.
JANOTA
Is this it? Is this really it?!
Janota breaks down into tears.
JANOTA
Ranoto's death was not in vain. It was not in vain!
Katyl crosses the street onto the rebel's side and comes to comfort Janota.
KATYL
I'm sorry. I really am. It's like I had no control over what I did. They are a martyr. We will remember the fallen.
Janota sobs. The two sides, following Katyl's example, get up from their barricades and meet up in the middle of the street and hug each other, patting each other's backs, embracing the end of the war.
22 INT. CAVERN - NIGHT
A voice comes over the speaker via radio.
REBEL SOLDIER
Come out, all! It's over! We've won the war! We can finally rebuild the city!
People in the cavern cry tears of joy, for the war which had no end in sight has finally come to an end.
23 INT. DALEK SAUCER CENTRAL HUB
Jinx looks up from the mutant he is holding and looks to see the Daleks now entering the chamber. He throws the Dalek mutant onto a Dalek's eye stock. The Dalek goes around in circles, before driving itself off the bridge and into the pit below.
JINX
I've got more where that came from! It's too late, Daleks! We've restored peace! And there's nothing you can do about it!
DOCTOR
They're right, Daleks. It's over. Lower your blasters. We want no more bloodshed.
DALEK
You will die, Doctor. You will be exterminated.
DOCTOR
What are you going to do? There're only three of you here in this part of the spaceship– well, four if you include the one that fell into the pit. I could have you all destroyed! All it takes is a jacket thrown over your eyes, as demonstrated using your supreme leader! Or even just a simple hack could take you down!
Suddenly, more Daleks begin to fill up the area by blocking off the other three hall entrances.
CLARA
More than three, then. And no jacket.
DALEK
You are surrounded, Doctor!
DOCTOR
We've got the TARDIS here in the middle with us. What's the worst you can do?
DALEK
You will be exterminated!
DOCTOR
Jinx, you said you hated the Daleks?
JINX
Who doesn't?
DOCTOR
Now's your time to prove it.
The Doctor unplugs Aeumus, and Jinx steps inside. It whirrs.
DOCTOR
I've redirected the transmission to all the Daleks on this ship. In just a few moments, you'll all be…
A Dalek, screaming insanely, proceeds to shoot another a Dalek, blasting it to bits.
DOCTOR
...killing each other. I think we should get out of here.
Then chaos ensues. Daleks begin open firing upon one another, with one even self-destructing to kill all the Daleks around it. Multiple explosions and blasts can be felt and heard from across the ship. Jinx quickly unplugs himself from the wires and heads straight into the TARDIS. The Doctor holds the door open for the three to get in. The Doctor then closes the door. The TARDIS then dematerialises in the scene of a pandemonium.
24 EXT. DALEK SAUCER
Explosions can be seen radiating from just about everywhere on the ship.
25 INT. DALEK SAUCER COMMAND CENTRE
The Dalek Supreme and Saucer Commander can be seen, spinning in circles, attempting to kill one another by shooting blindly into the walls, missing each other with every blast.
SAUCER COMMANDER
Self-destruct initiated!
The Saucer Commander then proceeds to blow itself up, along with the Dalek Supreme.
26 INT. DALEK SAUCER HALLWAY
A Dalek can be seen blasting a Dalek apart. Another Dalek comes up from behind that first Dalek.
DALEK
Exterminate! Exterminate the Daleks!
The Dalek then proceeds to initiate self-destruct, blowing itself up along with the other Dalek.
27 INT. DALEK SAUCER CENTRAL HUB
It's a bloodbath. The central hub looks almost unrecognisable, with pieces of Dalek goo and pieces everywhere, with black stains everywhere from the explosion. The entire room is ignited, and the bridges that go to the centre of the hub begin to collapse as the ground shakes. [Track 14 ends]
28 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor high-fives Clara. The Doctor then raises his hand to Aeumus for a high-five, who doesn't respond to it as they are rather perplexed by what this strange gesture is. [Track 15: Song For Four / Home] Clara notices Jinx sitting down in an armchair, looking rather depressed. She walks up to them.
CLARA
What's wrong? We've won.
Jinx continues to look down.
CLARA
Is it about Alva? I understand. Don't be sad that they're gone. You should celebrate the life they lived. When you get back home, you, Aeumus, and Alva will all be legends. Your stories will be told for generations to come.
Jinx looks up at Clara. They give a slight smile.
JINX
I grew up with Alva. They were the greatest friend I've ever had. I can't think of one bad moment we've ever had together. You're right. They will never be forgotten. I won't be forgotten. Aeumus won't be forgotten. No one who died during the horrific war we've experienced for the last few generations will be forgotten.
Clara smiles and goes back to join the Doctor. Aeumus comes up to Jinx.
AEUMUS
Hey, bud. I can guarantee you that when we arrive back on Benintas in just a few moments – the day on which we saved our civilization, it will be declared a national holiday. It will likely become the biggest of all our existing holidays. No one will forget all our sacrifices, blood, sweat, and tears. Our lows and our highs. No such event shall ever plague our great nation of Benintas.
The two smile at each other.
29 EXT. BENINTAS PARLIAMENT BALCONY - DAY
The group walks out of the TARDIS onto a small balcony, situated above a grand staircase which leads to a magnificent gate that leads into the parliament itself.
AEUMUS
Never thought I'd see the day.
JINX
Good thing we've got body cameras on us to record the whole experience. We can show them the power of Alva's sacrifice, and what they did to rescue our civilisation.
DOCTOR
Beautiful city. I can only imagine what it looks like once it's rebuilt.
Aeumus smiles. Jinx's eyes shine as the sun begins to set. The Doctor and Clara both return into the TARDIS while the two look out onto the magnificent city as they hear the sound of the TARDIS roaring.
JINX
Wait, we didn't get to say goodbye!
AEUMUS
We won't have to. The Doctor and Clara will be in our memories…
They bow their heads as cheers echo from across the surface.
30 INT. CLARA'S CLASSROOM
Students are shuffling their way into class. Andrew grabs Jonathan's shoulder.
JONATHAN
Hey.
ANDREW
Hey. Sorry about yesterday. It was almost as if I was possessed by some demon. Whatever I did to you was not intentional. That was not the real me. I'd like to apologize, and maybe even…
JONATHAN
Even…?
ANDREW
Become friends?
Jonathan thinks for a moment.
JONATHAN
Not gonna lie, Toy Story. That would actually be pretty cool. Not only are you smart, but you're strong as hell. I mean, I had to get some stitches from how hard you hit me. You're a lot stronger than I thought you were. Perhaps we're even now. For all the times I harassed you and made you miserable. I guess I deserved that.
Andrew smiles. Clara notices this, and smiles, seeing the future of a blossoming new friendship.
31 EXT. BENINTAS PARLIAMENT BALCONY - EVENING
Fifty years have passed since the end of the Great Dalek War. It's a bright, warm day with not a single cloud in sight. The crowd below the parliament cheers in excitement for their Chancellor, a veteran of the Great Dalek War, is about to take the spotlight. Big screens on each side of the parliament show a zoomed in perspective of the balcony. The Chancellor, a now elderly Aeumus, makes his way onto the balcony.
AEUMUS
Thank you all for gathering here today. As a reminder, on the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the Great Dalek War, the list of names and pictures of all those recorded dead or missing shall be displayed on the big screens. It's unfortunate that neither of my partners from the war were able to live to see the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the war, with one, Alva, having died in the final stage of the war, and the other, Jinx, having died in the past year of natural causes, peacefully. And now for a moment of silence for all the lives lost in the Great Dalek War.
The entire city, including those watching the event from home on their television, go silent.
AEUMUS
I also have a few words I'd like to share before we begin our display of our memoriam of those who have lost their lives in the terrible war.
The crowd waits anxiously as Aeumus clears their throat.
AEUMUS
Language has extraordinary power. More than anyone could ever imagine. Words can get inside your head, infecting your mind, spreading like a virus, changing who you are and how you see the world. The wrong word, in the wrong place, and at the wrong time, could end a life, start a war, or even bring down entire civilisations. And if the most deadly beings in the universe were to have harnessed that unbelievable power… then lord save us all. Bless the wonderful nation of Benintas and thank you all.
The crowd claps and cheers at the speech. The national anthem then plays, as the list of names, and photos of the fallen begin to scroll across the big screens beside the parliament, and on televisions across the city.
Aeumus makes his way back inside the parliament, with the Doctor standing there with the TARDIS beside him.
AEUMUS
Well, well, look who we've got here. You haven't aged a bit.
DOCTOR
Haha, yes. I thought I'd come back and check out all the progress you've made in fifty years. It's wonderful. It's unfortunate that neither Alva or Jinx didn't live to witness the progress you've made.
AEUMUS
No, I'm sure they're witnessing it right now from up above. Happy to be together again after being separated by life and death for so long. They're probably happy to see us reunite once more, even if it's for the last time.
DOCTOR
I'm sure they're proud of you. You've been elected the Chancellor! For the past however many years you've been elected Chancellor, you've led a prosperous and united populous, and I know that they believe in you. I hope this is a more proper goodbye than the one I left you with 50 years ago.
Aeumus tears up a bit.
AEUMUS
Thank you. Thank you for all you've done.
The Doctor smiles at him and walks into his TARDIS. It then dematerialises away. Aeumus looks back out to his shining world, at harmony forevermore. [Track 15 ends]
