ROLL TITLES

1 EXT. CENTRAL TOWER ENTRANCE - NIGHT
The End creatures have frozen, their majestic thrall over the planet being silenced for a moment. Clara and the Resistance watch, terrified and thrilled, as the Eleventh Doctor's face changes in a blaze of vibrant orange fire, becoming wrinklier, his hair curling and greying, before the regeneration energy disperses, and reveals...
The Twelfth Doctor.
Tentatively, he steps forward, aggressively eyeing his companion. She staggers back, cautious. He goes to say something, but a loud blast of End energy from above causes the Doctor to faint.

ZAYIM
That must've been a discharge of energy from the Doctor closing off the portal.

JENDO
Quickly, let's get him inside.

Clara hesitates, as Jendo crouches down to pick him up. He looks to her, and she slowly nods, coming to terms with the situation and helping to pick him up and carry him into the police box beside them.

FADE TO BLACK:

2 INT. TARDIS
[Track 1: A Drink First] The crash of the TARDIS suddenly jerks the Doctor awake, shooting up, and prompting Clara to jump back, startled. He looks around, adjusting to his new environment, then wandering around the console, then turning to Clara.

DOCTOR
I don't suppose you've got the time?

CLARA
The time?

DOCTOR
Yes, the time.

Clara stutters.

DOCTOR
Come on, come on, come on, by the time you've told me, it might be a completely different minute!

CLARA
Uh-

DOCTOR
Wait, no. Doesn't matter. Give me a second.

He spins around, patting himself down and muttering away.

DOCTOR
Bowtie; stupid.

He removes his bowtie and lets it drop onto the floor, before running his hand through his hair, checking his shoe size, then finally looking at his hands.

DOCTOR
Look at that.

CLARA
What?

DOCTOR
Old hands. Figures, I guess. At some point…it had to start showing.

CLARA
Where's the Doctor?

The Doctor turns his head.

DOCTOR
Oh! Hello.

CLARA
What have you done with him?

DOCTOR
I am him. I hope. As long as this regeneration works out, I am.

CLARA
You've mentioned regeneration before.

DOCTOR
It's a neat little trick, I'll give it that. When you were going through my timeline, do you remember all that? When we last went to Trenzalore.

CLARA
…A little. It's fuzzy.

DOCTOR
All those people you saved. They were me. All different faces, but the same person.

CLARA
But you said you couldn't do that again.

DOCTOR
I couldn't - but when I activated the weapon, the End tested my regenerative ability to ensure I was the one they were looking for. Gave me a new lease of regenerations. Ooh, I'm remembering quite a bit. That's impressive, considering my track record.

There's a knock at the door.

DOCTOR
Who's there? Are we still in the battlefield?

He starts to approach them.

CLARA
No, I flew us back to the base. With some assistance from the Resistance.

He looks at her, confused.

DOCTOR
...You flew the TARDIS?

CLARA
Yeah. You taught me, remember? At Caliburn House.

DOCTOR
Maybe my memory isn't as good as I thought. Oh well, I'm sure it'll come back to me soon enough.

Another knock.

DOCTOR
I'm coming, I'm coming!

The Doctor yanks the TARDIS doors and swaggers out, and Clara hurriedly follows.

3 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
Zayim is banging on the TARDIS doors, sitting in the corner of the warehouse, and the soldiers are still busy, debriefing themselves, but wary as the Time Lord steps out. On the screen, the countdown is still running - now at 01:05, 01:04, 01:03 and so on.

DOCTOR
Hello? Oh, it's you. Are you the same boss woman as before?

ZAYIM
Yes?

DOCTOR
Oh, good, I don't have to explain the situation again.

ZAYIM
How don't you remember me?

DOCTOR
I deleted you.

ZAYIM
You deleted me?

Clara shuts the TARDIS doors behind her.

DOCTOR
Is there a reason you were knocking on my door?

ZAYIM
Yes, the co-

DOCTOR
I know what you want.

The Doctor towers over Clara.

DOCTOR
I need to know something.

CLARA
Okay, what?

DOCTOR
Do you trust me?

CLARA
What?

DOCTOR
Do you trust me?

CLARA
I-

DOCTOR
So you don't.

CLARA
I didn't say that.

ZAYIM
Doctor!

DOCTOR
I'll be right with you.

ZAYIM
The self-destruct!

DOCTOR
I know!

Zayim glances over at the wall - 00:44, 00:43, 00:42…

DOCTOR
Fine. You want proof I'm the Doctor? Here you go.

He runs over to the centre of the room.

DOCTOR
Listen up, you noisy lot! Cos I've got a few things to say!

The soldiers all look terrified and on edge as the timer continues to reach its endpoint.

DOCTOR
You, computer nerd.

GORDE
Uh- me?

DOCTOR
Yes, you. Are you the fastest typer?

GORDE
I suppose so.

DOCTOR
Good, get to that computer now.

GORDE
Why?

DOCTOR
Because you're going to save all our lives. Now get to it!

ZAYIM
Do you have to be so showboaty?

DOCTOR
Of course I do, I love to put people on their toes because that's what the Doctor always does. But you don't believe I'm the Doctor, do you? Now tell me, boss woman. Why haven't you stopped that self-destruct?

ZAYIM
You've locked the subframe. We can't access the countermand codes.

DOCTOR
The correct answer! With my trusty little sonic screwdriver here. I used to flip it, but I don't think that's my style anymore.

00:15.

DOCTOR
And no-one else can use my sonic because of the new isomorphic filter. So, if I'm not who I say I am, then we'll all be dead. Now, Clara - Do you trust me?

Clara stares at him.

DOCTOR
Come on, ten seconds!

CLARA
I- I don't know!

He lifts the sonic, and it glows. Gorde gasps.

GORDE
The subframe, it's unlocked!

He speedily types into the computer and smashes the enter button. They all turn to the big screen - 0:06, 00:05, 00:04- SELF-DESTRUCT CANCELLED. [Track 1 ends]

DOCTOR
How about now?

The Resistance sigh with relief, calming down. Clara shakes her head.

CLARA
I hate you!

DOCTOR
No, you don't. So… what do you think?

CLARA
Of?

DOCTOR
My new face. I haven't had a look at it myself yet, but I'm sure I will later.

[Track 2: Blue Rescue One]

ZAYIM
Okay. I hate to break up this big reunion, but we have more important matters to attend to.

DOCTOR
Shut up.

ZAYIM
I beg your pardon?

DOCTOR
You tried to kill me twenty minutes ago, shut up!

Zayim looks away, guiltily. The Doctor points at Clara.

DOCTOR
You shut up too.

CLARA
I didn't say anything!

DOCTOR
But you were about to. I need to know about the End and the Contract. Both of them are out to kill me, can you believe how unbearable I'm going to be when I pull this off?

ZAYIM
Going to be?

DOCTOR
Shut up!

CLARA
Doctor, you need to calm down. Breathe.

DOCTOR
I am breathing, if I wasn't breathing, I wouldn't be talking to you.

The Doctor closes his eyes, moving his hands as if he's filing through an assortment of papers.

GORDE
What's he doing?

CLARA
Thinking, probably. Just give him a moment to work out what he's doing.

He throws the imaginary papers into the air and wanders off.

DOCTOR
Still fizzing, not ready yet. Not ready…

His hand glows orange, then he shakes it off.

DOCTOR
Stupid, stupid! New regeneration cycle, just wearing it in.

He turns around quickly.

DOCTOR
Something's coming. I can feel it. In the air.

ZAYIM
Does he need medication or something?

CLARA
Doctor, are you alright?

DOCTOR
Of course I'm alright, aren't you listening? I'm perfectly alright, it's the planet that's not alright. Something's coming, something- Oh.

CLARA
Oh?

DOCTOR
There's too much information to handle right now. I need a new approach. One moment.

He passes out.

CLARA
Doctor!

ZAYIM
Not again.

CLARA
We need to-

ZAYIM
We need to focus on what's going on out there.

CLARA
The Doctor's hurt, don't you have any sympathy?

ZAYIM
We're dealing with the greatest and possibly last offensive of our lives, this is the fight of our lives - we've got the biggest army in the universe and the power of our gods about to start battling above our heads, and you want us to take care of an old man?

CLARA
He's not old!

ZAYIM
No? He might have looked like your boyfriend once, sweetheart, but I'll have you know, what he looks like now is what he's always been.

Zayim sighs.

ZAYIM
Jendo, find the Doctor a bed. But for now, we've got a job to do. Supplement power to the security systems! Drain the reserves, charging stations, the kitchens whatever you can!

Clara lugs the Doctor to a bunk bed. [Track 2 ends]

4 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
[Track 3: The Legend of Robin Hood 0:00 - 2:00] The environment lies still, deadened from the skirmish a couple hours ago. The towers have crumbled and fallen apart, and the pulsating ghostly glow surrounding the End have also frozen. The fingers of one creature shimmer in and out of reality, before solidifying, curling into a fist gradually, taking its first breath in this Universe. It struggles to move its limbs initially, but then gets the hang of it, stepping down onto the dirt - it phases through, almost sinking into the ground, but it tries again and lands safely. It looks back to the ruins and starts to rebuild them, its hands trembling furiously as the rocks lift into the air and combine together, forming to create structures made seamlessly, without any cracks or imperfections - great landscapes of beauty, if they weren't rooted in evil.
The Contract Mothership still hangs in the sky, stalking their movements, tracking them, predicting them…

5 INT. TARDIS
The control room is covered in sticky notes and scribbled bits of paper. The Doctor is rushing about underneath the console, reading them, then chucking them behind him and letting them float onto the floor.

DOCTOR
No. No. No. Ah! No, wait, no.

He steps over the pile of scraps and runs up to the top balcony, seeing a book askew on the floor and picking it up.

DOCTOR
Yes! The End.

He flicks through it, then pulls towards him a blackboard out of thin air, scrawling all over it.

DOCTOR
It's times like this when I miss the Matrix. Far more compact and easier to collect information. The equivalent of a Time Lord search engine. Of course, if the Matrix was still around, so would be Gallifrey, and then I wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. They'd have sorted it before I could say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. What does that mean? No… no, I'm rambling again. Stop that. Need to get over that habit. Am I running out of time?

The Doctor checks the watch on his wrist - the second hand is moving, but at an increasingly leisurely pace.

DOCTOR
Of course I am, we're always running out of time. But how long do I have?

He slides down the rail.

DOCTOR
I could really do with a redecoration here.

He clears away the notes from the screen.

DOCTOR
Temperature… 2 degrees and cooling. This planet's about to become a snowball. Need to calculate how long until that happens.

The Doctor types away at the controls. [Track 3 ends]

6 INT. RESISTANCE BASE
[Track 4: Forgetting 0:00 - 1:01] Clara sits on a stool by the Doctor's bed, clutching his hand tightly. His eyes flicker under his eyelids, which concerns her. Jendo walks over.

CLARA
He looks restless.

JENDO
It's like you said, he's thinking. You need to have some more faith in him.

CLARA
How can I? He's-

She frowns, fighting back tears, prompting Jendo to wrap his arm around her.

CLARA
I'm okay, I'm really okay. Is it colder in here?

JENDO
Little drop in temperature, yeah, but nothing irregular. Here.

Jendo picks up a blanket and swaddles her in it.

CLARA
Thanks. I'm sorry about the Doctor. He never used to be so-

JENDO
It's fine, honestly. We've been fighting because of the Doctor for so many years, no-one knows how long.

CLARA
That's helpful!

She laughs a little.

JENDO
We know about the Time Lords. We know about regeneration. Give it time, and you'll realise that he's the same person that he always was.

CLARA
But he doesn't feel like it. He's ruder... serious. I don't know who he is anymore.

JENDO
Can you honestly tell me that you never saw that in the man you knew before?

She ponders for a moment.

CLARA
Not like this.

JENDO
Exactly like this. That is the true Doctor underneath. Unfiltered, unrecognisable. He doesn't know who he is yet, and he needs you to help him.

CLARA
Help him do what?

JENDO
Become recognisable. Become your Doctor.

Clara rests her head on Jendo's shoulder. [Track 4 ends] The lights dim and the hall is covered in darkness. The soldiers start to babble, complaining and fussing. [Track 5: Dreams Within Dreams 0:00 - 3:20]

CLARA
Woah, woah. Is that… is that normal?

ZAYIM
No, no, no. Gorde, can you-

GORDE
Switch to reserves?

ZAYIM
Damn.

CLARA
What do you mean?

ZAYIM
Blind spot. Act first, ask questions later, got it?

CLARA
Sure.

ZAYIM
Torches, everyone! Who's by the supply station?

KIRA
Me!

ZAYIM
Kira, find a torch, turn it on - Everyone, rendezvous by Kira!

Kira rummages around, and turns on a torch - the thick beam of light ripping through the darkness and acting like a beacon.

JENDO
Clara, hold my hand. Watch your step.

Jendo leads Clara towards the torch.

CLARA
What's going on? What's a blind spot?

JENDO
Electromagnetic signals interfere with our systems, shut them down for a bit. We usually predict them and activate our emergency lighting first.

CLARA
Which were drained to increase the security systems.

JENDO
And are now obsolete.

CLARA
Fat lot of good that was. Didn't someone realise, warn Zayim that it was coming?

GORDE
It was a spontaneous strike. The End have been manipulating the environment, it's going to have some repercussions.

CLARA
Right.

Clara trips up over a box.

JENDO
Clara! You good?

CLARA
I'm fine… Ow. No broken bones, hopefully. God, imagine how undignified that'd be.

The soldiers pick up torches one by one and switch them on. Clara is passed a torch and immediately she rushes back to the Doctor, making sure not to trip up again. As she comes to his bunk, his eyes are wide open.

CLARA
Doctor!

DOCTOR
What's happening?

He sits up.

CLARA
Long story. Did you work out whatever it was you were trying to work out?

DOCTOR
Nope. Funnily enough, Rassilon didn't mention what it'd take to beat his army in the stories. But they'll be affecting the weather - that's what's gone on here, isn't it?

CLARA
Yeah.

DOCTOR
Mind not shining that in my eye?

CLARA
Sorry.

DOCTOR
The planet's temperature is dropping significantly. It's not too bad currently, but it will be soon.

CLARA
Anything else?

DOCTOR
Yes. Incoming vision strike. A few minutes away.

CLARA
You mentioned that before, what's a vision strike?

DOCTOR
This planet is so unbelievably hostile, I'm surprised the core isn't a weapon of mass destruction. Knowing me, it probably is.

CLARA
Explain!

DOCTOR
Hallucinations, basically. Affects those who've had some exposure to artron energy. Travelling through rifts, wormholes-

CLARA
The TARDIS?

DOCTOR
Yes. I experienced it first hand earlier.

CLARA
I didn't.

DOCTOR
Well, you were under the protection of the Sontarans then. They've probably got advanced shielding against it, with their funds coming from the Contract.

CLARA
If their instruments can't register the weather now…

DOCTOR
They'll have no idea. Tell them, quick, tell them-

Everything distorts for Clara.

7 INT. CENTRAL TOWER STAIRCASE - NIGHT
Clara is stood at the foot of the tower, staring straight up, as the stairs spiral around the cylindrical shape, almost forming a cone near the top. She tries to move, but her feet are locked in place, as if they're glued to the stainless stone floor. She grunts, attempting to rid herself of this paralysis. The tower is now a darker bronze colour, with roundles imprinted onto the design.

CLARA
What the hell?!

She yells, still failing to escape.

8 INT. SONTARAN BASE HUB - NIGHT
The Doctor barrels into the Sontaran base, dazed.

DOCTOR
Where am I…?

He exclaims, remarking upon the charred corpses of the Sontaran troopers.

DOCTOR
What… what happened here?

He crouches down to inspect the remains of the soldiers, but as he goes to touch one's armour, his hand passes through it, like a ghost.

DOCTOR
Hologram?

He checks another Sontaran, and another, and another.

DOCTOR
Imprinted image on my visual cortex? No… Ohh… Yes, I remember now. Vision strike.

He jumps back up.

DOCTOR
Now, let's see what I can do. Can anyone hear me out there? In the base? I don't know if you can, I'd assume that we're in a trance state. And if we are, then I'd assume this place follows dream laws.

He paces around the room.

DOCTOR
It's a fascinating concept. What is, you ask? Lucidity, of course. It's been recorded across multiple species the idea that you can control your subconscious, evident in dreams. There's some scientific evidence to prove that idea. But this isn't my subconscious - at least not entirely. These hallucinations are a direct result of the planet's environment, but everyone experiences different things. So far, I've experienced something beneficial to what I'm thinking about. Because in all this, I was wondering what the Sontarans are planning. That was question one. Of course, the answer to that is, they're not. So perhaps these vision strikes tap into the centres of your mind, show you what you're thinking about, even on a subconscious level. Next question; if this homes in on my subconscious, then is lucidity possible?

He thinks for a moment, as the location around him glitches and reshapes. He holds out his hand, and as the environment phases from one setting to the next, it locks into place, as if he's stuck in the void between two spaces. He grins.

DOCTOR
That was fairly simple. Now, the final question for today is - If I'm here, so is Clara. So where is she?

He shuts his eyes, concentrating.

DOCTOR
Clara…! Clara!

9 INT. CENTRAL TOWER STAIRCASE - NIGHT
Clara's groaning, pulling at her legs. She hears the Doctor's voice echoing, calling out her name.

DOCTOR
Clara!

CLARA
Who's that? Who's there?

DOCTOR
Clara, can you hear me?

CLARA
Doctor, is that you?

DOCTOR
Clara!

CLARA
Where are you?

DOCTOR
In the same place as you - the Resistance base.

CLARA
We're not-

She notices -

10 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
The Doctor is sitting on the map table, staring at Clara, who's still unable to move. The soldiers are still, some busy, some unconscious - as are another Doctor and Clara, and the lights are still switched off. He stands up and strides over to her.

DOCTOR
Are you okay?

She mutters.

CLARA
I can't move.

DOCTOR
What?

CLARA
I can't move!

DOCTOR
Course you can.

CLARA
I've tried, honestly, I've really tried.

DOCTOR
But you didn't believe you could move. You feel stuck, trapped, alone and isolated. But you're not. I'm here. Take my hand!

CLARA
I can't!

DOCTOR
Yes, you can. Take my hand, go on.

Hesitantly, she opens up her palm towards the Doctor.

CLARA
Go on, take it then.

DOCTOR
You need to take my hand. Only then will you believe that you can move.

Clara looks at the Doctor, then grabs his hand and steps forward. [Track 5 ends]

CLARA
Ha! I did it.

DOCTOR
Yes, you did. Well done.

They embrace each other.

DOCTOR
I don't really do hugs anymore…

CLARA
Sorry.

They break from each other, then Clara's expression turns from warmth to surprise.

CLARA
Woah.

[Track 6: Breath] Clara looks around at the hall around her; a moment in time trapped like a ship in a bottle..

CLARA
What's everybody doing?

DOCTOR
Mannequin challenge?

CLARA
What?

DOCTOR
No, no. Too early for your time.

CLARA
That's us!

She sprints over to her unconscious body, then glances at the Doctor's, flat out on the bed.

CLARA
How can that be us?

DOCTOR
We're dreaming, Clara. This is a vision strike.

CLARA
What? How can we be-

DOCTOR
Talking? Anything is possible in dreams. Lucidity, communication. Just needs the right minds to achieve it. Is that what I look like now? Oh, well, I'm sure I'll wear it in. Loving the eyebrows… but that frown… I wonder why I'm frowning. And I'm sure I've seen it before. Anyway.

He clicks his fingers, and the lights switch on, the people all dissolving into nothing, shocking Clara. He then regains her focus.

DOCTOR
What did you see? Tell me.

CLARA
I was in the tower.

DOCTOR
The End's?

CLARA
Yeah.

DOCTOR
What was it like?

CLARA
Different. Cleaner, smoother.

DOCTOR
They're gaining more of a power in this universe. This is their fortress, this planet belongs to them. It won't be long until they use it as a warship against the rest of the Universe. Anyone they consider a threat against Rassilon. Which pretty much is the rest of the Universe - time can twist into any shapes and sizes, there are so many paths we take that can turn us into a dictator or a pauper.

CLARA
But Rassilon's gone. The Time Lords are gone, you said-

DOCTOR
They don't know that, and you think they're just going to listen to what I tell them? I'm their enemy, I'm their target, I'm a "power to be reckoned with", according to them.

CLARA
Yeah, I get it, they'll think you're tricking them. How do we stop them, then?

DOCTOR
Uh, well, I don't know. They regrouped faster than I thought.

The Doctor leans on a bunk bed.

CLARA
So, what now? How do we wake up?

DOCTOR
Why would we want to do that?

CLARA
Well, we can't stay in this dream world all day, can we?

DOCTOR
You're not listening. Dream laws. A second in the real world equates to minutes in here if we want it to be. That's what I was doing earlier. Saving us time, filtering through information in my head in a self-induced dream state.

CLARA
You mean you had a nap.

He pauses.

DOCTOR
Yeah, shut up.

She giggles.

DOCTOR
We need to collate everything we've got on this planet. Right now, there's no known way on how to defeat the End, so we use the environment. Tell me what you got from the Sontarans on the Contract, on their territory, exactly what you saw out there on the surface, and in your dream-

CLARA
Doctor, wait-

DOCTOR
I'll think of every scrap of information from the Resistance, see if I can log onto the database from in here.

The Doctor wanders over to the console.

CLARA
Doctor!

He spins back round.

CLARA
If this is a dream, and we build up all this information in here, dreams fade quickly - we might forget everything we do here.

DOCTOR
For you, maybe, but not me. But you're right, dream laws, they're not real. I can't interact with the database, just like I couldn't interact with the Sontarans at their base.

CLARA
You saw the Sontarans?

DOCTOR
Yes, they're dead.

CLARA
They're what?!

DOCTOR
Okay. New plan.

The Doctor grabs Clara.

DOCTOR
You're going to be alone now, but whatever you see, don't wake up. It can't hurt you.

CLARA
What- How do you know?

DOCTOR
It's not real. It's a hallucination. Try and remember everything you can.

CLARA
Where are you going?

DOCTOR
Waking up. You know more than I do on this. I'll try and communicate to you from the outside world. Just remember, and don't be scared. Focus. Now slap me.

CLARA
Huh?

DOCTOR
Slap me! I know that it might-

Clara slaps the Doctor, and with one final look of pain worn on his face, he disappears.

CLARA
Doctor? Doctor!

She reaches out to where he stood.

CLARA
Where did he go-?

The area around her distorts for a moment once again, then she notices that the soldiers and the Doctor have returned, now moving and alive, and the base is consumed in darkness.

CLARA
Doctor!

She runs over to him, and notices her limp body again.

ZAYIM
You don't want to wake her up?

DOCTOR
No. Clara, can you hear me?

CLARA
Yes! I can hear you, yes!

DOCTOR
Clara, just listen closely.

CLARA
I am! Can you hear me?

He rests his hand on her - the one experiencing the vision feels something press against her forehead.

DOCTOR
You need to focus and talk about what you remember. Focus on that, only that. Jendo, write down everything she talks about. Clara, remember!

JENDO
Got you.

The Doctor saunters off.

CLARA
What? But what am I supposed to do?

She hesitates.

CLARA
Remember. The Sontarans.

Closing her eyes, she begins to recollect memories of her under the Sontarans' captivity. As she speaks, the sound comes from the mouth of the unconscious Clara.

CLARA
There were… creatures. Creatures the Contract supplied them. I recognised a few.

Pan round to the Doctor's perspective - where the dreaming Clara is no longer there.

ZAYIM
We need to know what's going on there.

GORDE
It'll take me a while. Our servers are down, so I'd need to rewrite a whole new code to reroute the-

DOCTOR
Enough excuses. Just do it. No-one's going to judge you for working hard, okay?

GORDE
Okay.

He smiles a little.

ZAYIM
What did you see, Doctor?

DOCTOR
The Sontarans. They're dead. Whether the End got them or something else, I don't know.

Suddenly, Sai whips out a gun from his pocket and prods it at the Doctor's back. The soldiers gasp, immediately taking action and preparing for a hostage situation. The Doctor raises his hands.

DOCTOR
Do you mind not doing that?

SAI
You're the enemy. I can't trust you.

Clara, in her vision, runs towards the Doctor, putting herself between the gunman and the Doctor.

DOCTOR
Clara, if you're seeing this, do not, on any account, wake up. Go back to Jendo and talk to him. Jendo?

JENDO
But I can't-

ZAYIM
He gave you an order.

DOCTOR
Thank you, Zayim. Now for you.

Slowly, the Doctor turns around, still surrendered. Sai's hand trembles, readjusting his grip.

DOCTOR
You're susceptible to vision strikes?

He nods, still clutching the gun.

DOCTOR
What's your name? Go on, tell me your name.

SAI
I thought… I thought you knew my name.

DOCTOR
I can't remember, sorry. Tell me your name.

SAI
Sai.

DOCTOR
What did you see, Sai? Something where it doesn't end up well?

SAI
You… you betray us.

DOCTOR
I'll tell you what, that's entirely possible. Who knows what this persona's going to end up like? But some dreams aren't going to define us. I saw Clara getting executed by the Sontarans, and she's right behind you. You saw one possible future. But we make our own future, and this isn't what you want your future to be, is it?

SAI
Don't tell me what I want. I could kill you right here.

DOCTOR
Go on, then. Do it. See where that gets you. 3, 2, 1, bang! Hey? No?

An intense stare-off.

DOCTOR
I won't put up a fight. I'm unarmed, see?

He twirls, presenting himself as defenceless. The other soldiers look jittery, as if each movement the Doctor makes cuts through the tension like a knife through butter.

DOCTOR
Kill me all you like, but what does that make you, huh? Not a soldier. Just a trigger happy man with a bad temper.

Sai is fuming.

SAI
Is that supposed to stop me?

DOCTOR
No. But do you think anyone will respect you after this? Right now, you're not a soldier.

SAI
A soldier beats the enemy.

ZAYIM
A soldier doesn't condemn their allies and troops for the sake of victory.

DOCTOR
Zayim-

SAI
That's my job. And that's your job too.

ZAYIM
No. It's not. I know that now. I thought that I was meant to fight the enemy. That's why Mum put me in charge. I was ruthless, unstoppable, and nothing got me down. I never took no for an answer. My methods may have been effective, but they're wrong. Our job is to save those we're fighting for. That's why we're all here. To save the Universe.

Beat.

ZAYIM
You don't have to do this. You can back away, it doesn't have to go like this. He's right. He's right. You know he's right. He's not the enemy here.

Sai hesitates, before dropping his hand, standing at ease. Kira grabs the gun off him. [Track 6 ends]

DOCTOR
Thank you. Thank you.

He steps back to where he was originally, staring at the screen. Pan round, and the entire base stills once again, and Clara is thinking from her dream. [Track 7: A Message From Missy 0:00 - 2:08]

CLARA
Come on, there's got to be something else.

She sits down for a moment, silence echoing around the room, nothing but shallow breaths. Gradually, she begins to sweat as her mind forms memories hidden from her - blurred images of skeletal creatures in long robes, clicking away, the sounds of their whispers increasing in volume, until they scream in her head. Her eyes shut tight, locking them away, until-

She opens her eyes once again, and the Silence surround her.

CLARA
What are you?! WHAT ARE YOU?! Why do I keep forgetting you?!

SILENCE
Remember… Remember… Remember!

CLARA
Tell me your name!

SILENCE
We are the Silence!

They reach towards her, smothering her. She pushes them away and then-

11 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
Clara is darting across the planet's surface, now toxic and dangerous, slipping and sliding across muddy puddles and crashing avalanches of rock - but her mind is still focused on one thing: The Silence. Repeating their name over and over again. She looks up to the Contract Mothership, a sense of dread washing over her. She realises - they've dropped a large object, and the object is now hurtling towards her. As it reaches the floor, the earth breaks up and shatters into a million shards of dirt and stone, the planet ripping itself apart in a cacophony of light, blinding Clara.

12 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
Clara wakes up with a start, jolting up and hitting her head on a bunk bed, consumed in darkness, screaming. The Doctor bolts over to her.

DOCTOR
Clara! Clara, Clara, talk to me!

JENDO
She just kept telling me to be quiet for a couple minutes, then she went quiet herself, I- I- I didn't know what to do!

DOCTOR
Silence!

JENDO
Yeah, just like that!

DOCTOR
Shush! You're not Clara! Are you okay?

She wheezes, then her breathing slows down.

CLARA
Fine… I'm fine.

DOCTOR
What happened? I told you not to wake up.

CLARA
The Contract, they're- they're- they're-

DOCTOR
What? What are they doing, what?

CLARA
There was something in the base with us, and I can't remember. No, no, wait. There's...

DOCTOR
Don't force it, it'll come back to you. Just take your time.

CLARA
Alright.

DOCTOR
Jendo, notepad.

Jendo passes the notepad to the Doctor, who chucks it towards Gorde. His reflexes kick in, catching it and pressing it towards his chest nervously.

DOCTOR
Enter all that information into the system, cross-reference it with the existing data we have, find any common threads and work out the most likely outcome.

GORDE
Sure.

Gorde skims through it, then places the pad on the desk and begins to type away.

CLARA
Wait, wait, wait! It was-

There's a rumble from overhead. Dust falls from the ceiling. The lights suddenly surge with electricity, flickering on and off.

CLARA
Okay, what's doing that?

DOCTOR
No…

ZAYIM
What is it?

DOCTOR
What happened the last time you saw the Contract Mothership?

ZAYIM
They destroyed- No.

DOCTOR
Yes.

The Doctor runs over to the armoury and grabs two gas masks, throwing one to Zayim and putting the other on himself. [Track 7 ends]

ZAYIM
Is there a reason for this?

DOCTOR
We're going outside, and we don't know what's out there. Yes, there is a reason.

Zayim stares at the Doctor in bewilderment.

ZAYIM
I'm sorry?

DOCTOR
Don't be, it's a waste of time. What is it with you people and wasting time?

She rolls her eyes. The pair rush to the door. Clara runs over to Gorde. [Track 8: They Walk Among Us]

CLARA
What is it?

GORDE
I don't have eyes. That power spike might give us a bit of time on the cameras, let me see what I can do.

Clara scratches her head.

13 EXT. RESISTANCE TERRITORY - NIGHT
The Doctor and Zayim run out, watching the Mothership.

DOCTOR
...Doing, what are they doing, what are they doing…?

The Mothership starts to change its shape - along the bottom, rows of metal panels slide along and fold into itself, and in its place are huge, streamlined, bullet-shaped shells, threatening the planet. The Doctor scowls.

DOCTOR
No! No, no, no, no!

ZAYIM
Are they what I think they are?

Both the Doctor and Zayim share a look of horror.

14 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
The cameras switch on. Gorde turns them to face the Contract Mothership, prompting him to gasp.

GORDE
Red alert… red alert! They're priming missiles. 50 of them. They'll rip the planet apart!

CLARA
That doesn't make sense, what about the Sontarans? The End might have killed them, but there's still a lot of resources at their base.

GORDE
I- I- I don't know, but you can see them, they're going to annihilate us!

CLARA
Gorde! Calm down! We've got an emergency, so we deal with it rationally. Sound the alarm, raise defences to maximum, find any power we can. Go!

Gorde sprints off.

15 EXT. RESISTANCE TERRITORY - NIGHT
Zayim looks unsettled.

ZAYIM
They're going to burn Trenzalore?

DOCTOR
Heavy armour nuclear weapons. They're declaring war on the End. And no matter how big their army is - Nothing can beat them!

He spins back round, darting into the base.

16 INT. CENTRAL TOWER - NIGHT
The End creatures turn to the Mothership. They form together, linking up and creating a barrier.

17 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
One of the rockets launches from its socket, hurtling at full speed towards the Central Tower.

18 INT. CENTRAL TOWER - NIGHT
They raise their hands, and fire an energy beam towards the missile, engulfing it and absorbing it.

19 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
Soldiers rush about, preparing for a war.

DOCTOR
What are they doing? The stupid-!

CLARA
Huh?

DOCTOR
The End, apparently they adapt. Hyper-evolution. They learn, absorbing strategies and weapons, and use it for themselves, predicting their next move and giving them the advantage. Do you now see why no Time Lord has ever tried to become a God? Rassilon's installed trap after trap after trap. He understood his power, and knew no-one else could ever control it for themselves!

20 INT. CENTRAL TOWER - NIGHT
The missile spins back around, and shoots itself at the Mothership. They see that its defences are too strong, disintegrating it and becoming ash sinking on the ground like snow.

21 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
Zayim raises an eyebrow.

ZAYIM
Perhaps they're better than you thought.

DOCTOR
We need to stop them from starting an intergalactic war! Can you get in contact with them?

ZAYIM
The Contract? Are you mad?

DOCTOR
Okay, I'm going to the Sontaran base.

CLARA
"I'm"?

DOCTOR
Yes?

CLARA
Don't be stupid, I'm coming with you.

DOCTOR
Uh, no.

CLARA
Uh, yes. You don't have a choice.

ZAYIM
I'll organise a squad.

DOCTOR
I don't need babysitting!

CLARA
It's not babysitting, it's backup.

ZAYIM
Nope. It's babysitting.

Zayim wanders off.

DOCTOR
I need you to keep them occupied.

CLARA
So you can sneak off? No chance, not while you're in this state!

DOCTOR
Clara, I-

CLARA
No. I'm not listening!

There is a loud bang from overhead.

22 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
The Dalek patrol ships emerge from the Mothership again, sending a wave of fire, assaulting the towers polluting the wasteland. They start to crumble, but the End react swiftly, rebuilding them. The ships spin round, heading in for another strike, but their lasers are dissolved by a shield surrounding the towers - similar to the one on the Mothership. The End creatures raise their arms and fire lasers - fizzing and unstable - at the Dalek ships, and one by one they drop out of the sky. Soon, all that is left is the smoking remains of the patrol ships. [Track 8 ends]

23 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
They gawp at the remnants of the failed assault.

JENDO
Well, that wasn't fun.

[Track 9: The Architect] The computers switch off again.

GORDE
That surge wasn't enough. Our systems have taken a severe toll.

ZAYIM
Compile a damage report.

The Doctor sighs. Clara looks sympathetically towards him.

CLARA
You okay?

DOCTOR
I don't think we're going to get out of this.

CLARA
You're giving up?

DOCTOR
No. No, I didn't say that. But this is a risk.

CLARA
Like always.

DOCTOR
Back to the caves. With what just happened, it's probably not a good idea to go over the surface. Gorde, I need a map.

Gorde passes a map to the Doctor. The Doctor takes the gas mask out of his pocket and puts it back on. Five other soldiers place gas masks on their face too, as does Clara.

DOCTOR
I said no. You're not coming.

CLARA
And we said yes.

Clara grabs the Doctor's hand and the pair follow the soldiers to the entrance.

DOCTOR
No, no, no. No hand holding.

The Doctor tries to wrestle his hand out of Clara's grip. At the door, the Doctor looks back to Zayim.

DOCTOR
You need to be careful. We don't know what the Contract or the End are planning. Because they're after me, you should be safe, just watch yourself.

ZAYIM
It's a good thing we're defenceless, then.

The doors slide open, and the group exits, leaving only a handful of soldiers to remain in charge.

24 EXT. RESISTANCE TERRITORY - NIGHT
They step over the ground.

CLARA
Where's the closest cave entrance?

DOCTOR
Uh…

He checks the map.

DOCTOR
Eastwards.

He turns left, then strides forwards.

25 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
The End creatures descend onto the ruins of the Daleks. They emit a glow from their spiritual form, and the ships shimmer and dissolve away, cleaning up the landscape. They turn around to face the towers, and they gradually reform, matching the aesthetic of the Dalek ships, with the hemispheres imprinting themselves onto the walls, which are now a dark bronze colour, like Clara saw earlier. At the top of each tower grows a Dalek gun. [Track 9 ends]

26 INT. CAVES - NIGHT
The Doctor kicks through some rocks and climbs into the caves, helping Clara and the other soldiers in after him.

CLARA
I didn't miss this place at all. God, it's cold here!

[Track 10: It's Still Him]

DOCTOR
We've got to keep moving. The longer we're exposed, the more chance the End will find us. Not to mention the anti global warming.

They speed through the caves.

JENDO
As well as all the other dangers down here. Wild animals, cave avalanches…

CLARA
Cave avalanches? How does that work?

JENDO
Sometimes, the pressure of the atmosphere increases with the humidity, the ground gives way and the caves collapse in on themselves.

CLARA
Delightful.

Beat.

CLARA
So, how did you get involved with all this? You're a bit…

JENDO
Bit what?

CLARA
Not soldier-y.

He chuckles.

JENDO
Well, it wasn't my plan when I was a kid, if that's what you're thinking.

CLARA
What did you want to be?

JENDO
You'll laugh.

CLARA
I won't, promise.

JENDO
Okay… I wanted to be an artist. When I was younger, I majored in digital art.

CLARA
Seriously? What stopped you?

JENDO
The war. The Resistance came, evacuated our planet, and split us up across the stars - some cities were recruited to fight some battles, some rehoused, and the Contract destroyed our planet and turned it into a storage unit.

CLARA
I'm so sorry. How old were you?

JENDO
Twelve. They saved my life.

CLARA
So… you're not actually… what was the name again?

JENDO
Taulian. And no. None of us are. I'm from Eutur, Kira's a Metriyan, Sooti's from Makia Velli.

CLARA
Oh, I've been there.

JENDO
We're from all over the place. Wherever the Resistance goes. We're named in honour of the Taulian Government, the first to stand up to the Contract. But they all died. The entire species. Their deaths weren't in vain though, they lit the spark of rebellion.

CLARA
Oh, I see. So, if you lot go around the Universe kidnapping people-

JENDO
It's not like that!

CLARA
I know, I know. But doesn't that turn you exactly into what the Contract's trying to crush? Someone who creates a massive impact on wherever they go?

JENDO
The same could be said of the Contract. They destroy anywhere the Doctor's been and blame it on him. When it comes down to it, how different are we all really? We're all fighters here. Everyone might be fighting for different things, but we all leave a footprint in different ways.

CLARA
And that's why the End pose a threat. With that reasoning, everyone who fights is dangerous.

DOCTOR
Now you're getting it.

CLARA
Have you been listening to our conversation?

DOCTOR
No. And by no, I obviously mean yes.

The Doctor doesn't realise, but Clara is staring right at the Doctor.

CLARA
Maybe you're right. Maybe there's not much difference after all.

[Track 10 ends] A rumbling halts the conversation, and the group falls silent for a moment.

DOCTOR
What's that?

Kira reads a handheld gizmo, but the monitor is glitching.

KIRA
I'm reading something approaching us, but this tech is too dated to work out what. It's big though.

DOCTOR
How far?

KIRA
30 metres… 25... 20... It's not working!

She smacks it, then recoils from the pain of hitting metal. [Track 11: When I Say Run 0:00 - 1:30 (fadeout needed)]

DOCTOR
Any idea what it could be?

JENDO
No, there's loads of things living under the surface. Gorde's got a list of them, and recorded behaviour.

CLARA
You didn't think to bring it?

JENDO
I forgot!

DOCTOR
Shush, shush.

He begins to whisper.

DOCTOR
Maybe if we're quiet, whatever it is will pass us by.

The Doctor gestures for them to spread out from their concentration, making it harder for whatever it is to attack more than one person at a time. Their breathing is laboured and laden with fear. Through a small gap in the formation of the rock walls, they notice a large, scaly, slimy worm-like body slithering past, drenched in a coffee colour. From the look on the soldiers' faces, it's obviously something to be dreaded. The Doctor throws a quizzical look, and Jendo shakes his head, trying to get them all to move. Throwing his hands up, the Doctor fixes his position into the ground, as if to say "I refuse." It continues to circle them behind the walls. After a few tense moments - what seems like forever to the group - the creature disappears from sight, and the Doctor ushers them along. They begin to talk, but in hushed voices.

CLARA
What was that thing?

JENDO
A Drok. Genetically engineered from a Drashig egg.

DOCTOR
Fascinating, can we move it along please?

CLARA
Kira, are there any more?

KIRA
I- I don't know.

CLARA
Okay.

One of the soldiers - Sooti - trips over a vine and yelps. They all spin back to hear a short screech - like a Drashig cry, but raspier, brasher. Clara helps her up, and then the Doctor thrusts his finger to his lips.

CLARA
Did it hear us?

Suddenly, the soldiers shriek as part of the rock wall is smashed through, and a Drok charges through! In an instant, it snaps the soldier that tripped, gnawing at the and ripping them apart.

DOCTOR
Go! Run, run, run! Go, go, go, go, go!

The group flees, sprinting through the caves. Once the predator has finished its meal, the hunt resumes, crushing the gravel and reducing it to ash as it slinks speedily after the soldiers.

CLARA
It's still coming!

DOCTOR
It's caught our scent now!

CLARA
What does that mean?

DOCTOR
It means that there's only one way to stop it!

The Doctor stops and snatches Jendo's gun from its holster. The troops gasp, crying out. He points it at the Drok, which is still hurtling towards them at full speed.

CLARA
Doctor, what the hell do you think you're doing?!

A look of anger, hatred and violence is washed over his face, his eyes poised for combat. Clara stares at him in shock, and only with his realisation does he realise what he's doing, and he aims the gun towards the roof of the cave. He fires it, and the ceiling begins to collapse with great force.

DOCTOR
Everyone down!

He grabs Clara and throws both himself and her out of the way, the soldiers taking cover themselves. As the dust settles, the soldiers climb back up, catching their breath. [Track 11 ends]

JENDO
You could've warned us about that!

DOCTOR
I did, didn't I?

JENDO
A bit late.

CLARA
Doesn't matter now, is everyone okay?

JENDO
Kira?

KIRA
Yep.

JENDO
Faero?

FAERO
Reporting.

JENDO
Georg?

GEORG
Here.

JENDO
Sooti?

Beat. [Track 12: Amy And Rory Together]

JENDO
Oh. Right. God, what a way to go. Poor Sooti. Six months she'd been with us. Just finished her training.

DOCTOR
If it's any consolation, Drashigs, or in this case, Droks don't waste too much time. It was a quick death.

CLARA
Doctor, what were you thinking?

DOCTOR
Sorry. Post-regenerative trauma.

CLARA
Uh, no. Not acceptable. Regeneration number 13, right? So you should be used to changing personality. Overcome that and be the Doctor because we don't have time for you to faff about.

DOCTOR
...You're right. I guess that's the sort of thing the Contract meant when they wanted me dead.

He glares at the others intensely.

DOCTOR
We can't let anyone else die. This ends now.

The Doctor turns away from them. Clara looks incredibly concerned.

27 INT. RESISTANCE BASE - NIGHT
Thunder rolls above their heads. The soldiers are still in the dark, brooding. They're sat around a small fire, keeping warm.

ZAYIM
What's the gas level?

GORDE
For the third time, secure. There's only 2% alcohol in the air right now, it can't ignite.

ZAYIM
Okay. How long until the power returns?

GORDE
I don't know.

She groans.

ZAYIM
We don't know anything. The more we do, the more questions we have. We don't even know if they made it. This is the fight we've been training for, and we're just sitting ducks. If we don't do something, those creatures will spread across the Universe. And it's all my fault.

She buries her head in her hands.

GORDE
Yeah. It is.

The pair laugh.

ZAYIM
God, look at us. Have I just been wasting our time? Delaying the inevitable? Or did I go the wrong way?

Veenay scoffs.

ZAYIM
What?

VEENAY
You're questioning yourself now? Right when we need you?

ZAYIM
Huh?

VEENAY
I think all of us here can agree that you haven't been the best captain over the years. Your methods have been somewhat… controversial, gruesome, even inhumane at times-

ZAYIM
Now it feels like you're just taking potshots at me, get to the point.

VEENAY
But you don't have time to worry over them. You're our leader, act like one.

GORDE
He's right. The way you led had its advantages, but it's time to think of something new to stop the End, the Contract, save the Universe and maybe, at the end of it, get us home safe.

ZAYIM
I wouldn't know where to begin. I've been brought up to lead in one way.

GORDE
We'll stand beside you to help you out. You're not alone in this. One person can't save the Universe. Why do you think the Doctor's always travelling with someone else?

They all stand up, saluting to Zayim. She grins sheepishly, standing with them. [Track 12 ends] The lights switch back on, and everyone clamours.

ZAYIM
That's a mercy. Well, let's get to work, then. Can someone put out that fire, please?

The soldiers set about turning the computers back on, resetting the defences, rushing to the map.

ZAYIM
Gorde, we'll need an update on the status outside. Can you do that for me?

GORDE
On it, boss.

ZAYIM
Alright, has anyone got any ideas?

Multiple voices bounce around the map table simultaneously.

ZAYIM
Hey, hey, one at a time!

The lights are suddenly sucked towards the roof and the End, which phase through. [Track 13: Siege Mode]

END
You shall cease. Where is the target?

They arm themselves, aiming their guns at the End.

ZAYIM
Hold your fire! What are you doing here?

END
Where is the target?

ZAYIM
The Doctor?

END
The Doctor lives?

ZAYIM
Ah. Maybe.

END
You will tell us where the Doctor is.

ZAYIM
You're being very talkative. From what I heard, you were very weak a few hours ago. Being shy, all that.

END
We have mirrored and accelerated the development of the mind.

ZAYIM
Very posh.

END
Where is the Doctor?

ZAYIM
Don't you know? You accelerated your mind.

END
It is… unclear.

ZAYIM
Aw, diddums. Guess you're not as omnipotent as you make out to be.

END
Where is the Doctor?

ZAYIM
Why would I tell you? You're the enemy.

She snickers.

ZAYIM
No, scratch that. You're everyone's enemy. You don't have a single friend here. And you want to kill everyone? Nah. Everyone's going to kill you. Like this.

She rips a bolt into the End creature she is talking to, but the gunshot wound just heals instantly, and the creature nonchalantly continues to advance towards Zayim. She gasps.

ZAYIM
Okay, you can do that.

END
Where is the Doctor?

ZAYIM
Not telling you.

END
Then we shall learn by force.

The End creature reaches into Zayim's head. She screams in agony as it extracts memories from her like drinking through a straw. The soldiers bound towards them, trying to pull the End creature away but just passing through it.

END
He is communicating with the Contract. Seek them out.

They fade away, and Zayim slumps to the floor. The lights return to normal.

VEENAY
Captain!

GORDE
Zayim, are you okay? What did they do? No, no, no! God, no!

VEENAY
What do we do now?

Gorde cradles Zayim's head. He puts his ear to her mouth.

GORDE
She's still breathing, but barely. She could make it, let's put her on the bed-

VEENAY
Gorde.

GORDE
Come on, help me, quickly! We need some water too.

VEENAY
Gorde! She's gone.

GORDE
We can't give up on her.

VEENAY
She's done that to so many others.

GORDE
We learn from her mistakes, then. She was changing her mind, you saw her! And even so, she was still our friend. Now help me!

Gorde and another soldier carry Zayim to a bunk bed, whilst Veenay heaves a heavy sigh. [Track 13 ends]

28 INT. SONTARAN BASE ENTRANCE - NIGHT
[Track 14: Saving Rigsy] The doors slide open, and the Doctor and co swagger inside, but are mortified at the sight of the Sontaran corpses.

DOCTOR
Just as I thought.

CLARA
Did the End do this?

DOCTOR
It's possible, but… I don't know how or when.

He looks at them sympathetically.

DOCTOR
I'm sorry.

Beat.

DOCTOR
Clara?

CLARA
It's this way.

Clara leads them through the corridors - now messier; green blood has been spilled on the floor; dents and scorch marks have made an impact on the walls, frost has started to settle and the deep purple glow from earlier is now a thick red.

CLARA
It looks different. Why's that?

DOCTOR
No-one's been operating this base, it's gone into automatic shutdown. At least, I'm assuming.

CLARA
Assuming?

DOCTOR
Like I said, I don't know when the End could've killed them.

GEORG
You think someone else did this?

DOCTOR
The sooner we get to Control, the better.

JENDO
If you don't mind, Doctor, well…

He hesitates.

JENDO
This is the first time we've managed to secure our hands on enemy property. Mind if we take a look around?

DOCTOR
Watch your step, there could be traps.

The Doctor and Clara continue on.

29 INT. SONTARAN BASE CONTROL - NIGHT
The Doctor and Clara step over the Sontaran bodies to the central terminal. He presses a few keys.

DOCTOR
We're locked out. Automatic shutdown, the servers have been wiped and the computers are off.

CLARA
Now what?

DOCTOR
What's that room over there?

The Doctor points to the booth behind Clara, before ducking under the computer.

CLARA
I dunno.

She walks over to it and opens the door.

CLARA
Looks like one of those photo kiosks.

DOCTOR
I doubt the Sontarans need a passport photo. Aaah!

The Doctor climbs back up.

CLARA
What?

DOCTOR
So we need to find the Contract, right? And this base belongs to them.

CLARA
Yep.

DOCTOR
They'd be monitoring it and know that they're in automatic shutdown. So…

He hits it and the power switches back on.

DOCTOR
Guess what just got its power back?

Clara smiles.

DOCTOR
There's that smile!

CLARA
There's that Doctor!

DOCTOR
Listen. They're probably going to beam me up to their ship or something. I might be able to get them on our side long enough to defeat the End. But once they're gone, I need you to come up with a plan to stop the Contract. Get out, go!

CLARA
You'll need me with you!

DOCTOR
No. I can do this alone. Trust me please.

Clara hesitates.

CLARAAlways.

She runs out, and the Doctor disappears, fizzling out in a yellow light. [Track 14 ends]

30 INT. CONTRACT TELEPORT PAD - NIGHT
[Track 15: Account Closed] The yellow light reappears in a small box room, on top of a cylindrical platform. It's barely lit with blue light, and, aside from a little plinth with some buttons on, the room has been stripped of decorations. The light forms into the Doctor, who stumbles and hits his head on the floor.

DOCTOR
Oh… teleports are nasty.

A shadow falls over him and he looks up to three figures - the people the Master met; Sabril is tall and imposing, with a striking blonde haircut - straightforward and bold, streaking a dash of blue; Chalice is an older, rather skinny man, with swept back hair and glasses - grinning away; finally, Landn is a big bloke, muscular, wearing a vest to show off his brawn and his default expression is one of aggression.

DOCTOR
Hello. I suppose you know who I am, but why don't you tell me your names?

SABRIL
I am Sabril, this is Chalice and this is Landn. We are the Executives of the Contract.

DOCTOR
CEOs? That's nice. I'm afraid I'm really rather busy but-

CHALICE
Funny man, isn't he? But we know that's just a façade. Now, here's what I want to know.

Chalice leans in close to the Doctor.

CHALICE
Why are you such an idiot?

DOCTOR
Excuse me?

CHALICE
You must've known we would've caught you snooping around that base!

DOCTOR
Yes, I did. Now I'm here, what do you want with me? Because I have a few ideas in mind.

Chalice is left speechless.

SABRIL
Landn, would you do the honours?

Landn punches the Doctor in the stomach and carries him out of the room, with the other two following.

31 INT. SONTARAN BASE CORRIDORS - NIGHT
Clara meets up with the soldiers.

JENDO
Where's the Doctor?

CLARA
Talking to the Contract. He needs us to do something for him.

JENDO
What?

CLARA
Isn't it obvious?

Beat.

CLARA
Save him.

JENDO
And how do we do that?

CLARA
I dunno yet. The database has been wiped so the Sontarans are no help at all. Maybe if we could get the End and the Contract to fight each other?

JENDO
We saw what happened when they tried that, neither of them scratched the surface of the other.

CLARA
Right. What else do we know? We know that the Contract take advantage of other species and their weaponry.

JENDO
So do the End, to an extent.

CLARA
But right now, they're not as strong, because they don't have a link to their dimension… Oh!

JENDO
What?

CLARA
Is that possible? Could be possible.

JENDO
Why don't you tell us what could or could not be possible?

CLARA
Come on, back to the control room!

They run off.

32 INT. CONTRACT INTERROGATION CELL - NIGHT
The Doctor is tied up via chains to the wall, his limbs being stretched. Chalice, Landn and Sabril stare at him as he is shocked with piercing volts of electricity, screaming. As the torture stops, smoke rises from his body.

SABRIL
I'll ask you again. How do we use the End?

DOCTOR
You can't!

SABRIL
Again.

Sabril clicks her fingers. Once more, the Doctor is electrocuted.

DOCTOR
You've got to stop this! You're no match for the End!

SABRIL
We've got the biggest army at our disposal!

DOCTOR
And it's still not enough!

She nods to the operator, who fires another blast of electricity.

CHALICE
Cor, he can't last much longer! He could regenerate again! Wouldn't that be a laugh?

SABRIL
You're right, he can't. So if he knows what's good for him, he'll give in!

DOCTOR
I'm telling you the truth. There's only one way to stop them, and that's with my help!

CHALICE
You're begging for mercy already? You want to join our cause?

DOCTOR
The only reason you're doing all this is because you're scared! But the thing you're scared of is the only thing you shouldn't be scared of! If you don't listen to me, it'll be the end of everything!

CHALICE
We are listening to you. Listening to you blabber on and on and on.

LANDN
You're getting nowhere with conventional methods.

SABRIL
Oh, why not. Go ahead.

Landn beats the Doctor's flaccid body with his large fists. He spits blood onto the floor.

DOCTOR
Trust me. They can't help you. And you mustn't help them! You kill me here, and they'll spread from this planet to the rest of the Universe!

Landn smacks the Doctor's face. [Track 15 ends]

33 INT. CONTRACT MOTHERSHIP WALKWAYS - NIGHT
Chalice and Sabril exit the cell, the Doctor's screams still echoing out. The corridor is painted a dark black, featuring hexagonal archways, and the floor is made from a metal mesh.

CHALICE
Do you believe what he says?

SABRIL
Of course I do.

CHALICE
So will he help us?

SABRIL
No. He's a monster. First chance he gets, he'll destroy us.

CHALICE
Unless we destroy him first.

Sabril pauses, then checks a wrist device - it's a vortex manipulator.

SABRIL
Is there a Lupein cage?

Chalice laughs.

CHALICE
Oh, yes!

He speeds off, giggling to himself. Sabril, too, breaks her composure and a smile forms on her face.

SABRIL
You're too hyper, calm down!

CHALICE
Not this time! We've got him! Whoo!

He disappears from sight. [Track 16: Help Arrives - Extended 0:00 - 0:58 (fadeout needed)]

SABRIL
Yes we have.

She re-enters the cell.

34 INT. SONTARAN BASE CONTROL - NIGHT
Clara is messing with the controls, whilst Kira, Faero and Georg move the Sontarans into one corner.

JENDO
Clara, do you know what you're doing?

CLARA
Absolutely no idea. Kira, gimme your scanner thing!

Kira chucks the scanner to Clara, and she ducks under the console.

CLARA
How the hell do I wire this in?

GEORG
Please explain!

CLARA
Firstly we need to turn on the heating otherwise we're going to freeze. Then we need to be able to send a secret code to the Doctor up there on the Contract Mothership.

JENDO
Saying what?

CLARA
Telling him to open the portal to the End.

KIRA
What?!

CLARA
You have to trust me on this.

JENDO
Kinda don't!

CLARA
There was a discharge of energy when the portal shut, right? So they open the portal on the Mothership, pull all the End back in, and close it, and it explodes on their ship!

KIRA
Well, what are you waiting for?!

CLARA
How do we contact them? There's gotta be some way, but I don't understand these controls, do you?

JENDO
It's not ours!

CLARA
Yeah, but- Oh, for god's sake.

Clara realises - she spins around and sees the booth.

CLARA
Photo kiosk.

She slides over to it.

35 INT. TELECOM ROOM - NIGHT
She peers inside.

CLARA
Camera, microphone. This is a studio, some comms room! This is it! I found it!

Clara sits inside. Jendo opens the door and looks in.

CLARA
What now? How do we talk to the Doctor from here? This is a direct link to the Mothership, isn't it? So what if the Doctor hasn't made an alliance with them yet? We'll be telling them right where we are. We're risking everything.

Jendo pushes the button, and it starts to ring. [Track 16 ends] Shocked, she stares at him.

JENDO
Our main goal is to stop the End. Who cares if it means we get captured, right? We'll have saved the Universe. We should get medals for being this brave.

Clara laughs, and Jendo joins in. [Track 17: The Final Room]

JENDO
You'll have to excuse me.

Jendo turns to the others.

JENDO
We might have incoming any second now.

A sense of fear and dread washes over Clara. She closes her eyes.

36 INT. CLASSROOM - DAY
Clara is reading The Life of Pi to her class.

CLARA
I must say a word about fear. It is life's only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unnerving ease. It begins in your mind, always… so you must fight hard to express it. You must fight hard to shine the light of words upon it. Because if you don't, if your fear becomes a wordless darkness that you avoid, perhaps even manage to forget, you open yourself to further attacks of fear because you never truly fought the opponent who defeated you.

She smiles.

CLARA
I want you to annotate this. It's one of my favourite quotes from the book. It's one of the most inspirational speeches about fear. You must-

37 INT. TELECOM ROOM
Clara smiles.

CLARA
-always remember that fear resides within every living creature in the Universe. It's what you do with that fear that can make you different from everyone else.

She opens her eyes, then looks over to the soldiers.

CLARA
I've got this. Easy peasy.

She looks back to the monitor, which switches on, showing that strange abstract pattern. [Track 17 ends]

38 INT. CONTRACT CONTROL HUB - NIGHT
The Doctor saunters into the control hub - that same metal mesh forms a platform above a huge endless shaft, with complicated machines being operated by Ood.. On the outskirts of the shaft is a large ledge where more machines lay, including another telecoms room. The Doctor greets each Ood, shaking their hand, whilst Landn and Sabril stand there watching him, unamused.

DOCTOR
Nice to meet you, and you, and you. Watch your step, you won't want to fall down there.

SABRIL
Are you quite finished?

DOCTOR
Oh yes, yes. Straight to business, let's see here.

The Doctor studies the technology, nodding excitably. An Ood walks out of the telecom booth - unlike the others, this one has a translator ball.

OOD
I do apologise, ma'am, but there is a call waiting.

SABRIL
Where from?

OOD
Origins state that it is from the planet Trenzalore.

The Doctor hears this, but pretends to take no notice, still having a gander at the controls.

DOCTOR
Very nice…

LANDN
Halfwit. The Sontarans are dead.

OOD
I know this.

LANDN
Then who's calling us?!

SABRIL
The Doctor contacted us from the Sontaran base. Is it at all possible that he wasn't alone?

Landn belligerently stomps towards the Doctor, picks him up and dangles him over the platform.

DOCTOR
No need to be so hasty!

LANDN
Who is at the base?

OOD
If I may interject-

LANDN
Not now! Doctor, tell us their names and their significance.

OOD
Sir-

LANDN
SHUT UP! Don't make me tell you again!

DOCTOR
I don't think you'll drop me.

LANDN
Oh, don't you?

Landn lets go of the Doctor, and he starts to plummet down. Suddenly, Landn catches him again, this time by the foot.

SABRIL
Ood, who is it from?

OOD
I cannot tell, but they wish to speak to the Doctor.

SABRIL
I'm sorry?

Landn quickly yanks the Doctor up and rests him on the floor, then confronts the Ood.

LANDN
Say that again.

OOD
The call is intended for the Doctor.

SABRIL
Put it on speaker. No privacy here, Time Lord. We're listening to this entire call, understand?

DOCTOR
Perfectly.

There is a high pitched beep.

SABRIL
You may talk now.

DOCTOR
Clara, is that you?

CLARA
Doctor?

DOCTOR
Clara!

CLARA
Oh, I'm glad to hear your voice. You sorted everything out alright, then? Listen-

DOCTOR
I should let you know that it's not perfectly alright, I'm with some rather nasty company.

LANDN
You talking about me?

DOCTOR
Perhaps.

CLARA
Okay, but that thing you asked me to do. I worked it out. Can you reopen the crack?

DOCTOR
The crack? From here? But that'll- Oh.

CLARA
Yeah. Oh.

DOCTOR
You are brilliant sometimes, you know that?

CLARA
I do.

DOCTOR
Don't let it go to your head. Get back to the TARDIS, I'll see you there.

Sabril and Landn exchange glances.

CLARA
You can do it?

DOCTOR
Consider it done!

The Doctor whips out his sonic and uses it on the telecom room, and the call ends. [Track 18: The Doctor's Plan]

DOCTOR
I know how we can stop the End.

SABRIL
You do?

DOCTOR
I need a nice open space.

SABRIL
Hangar bay!

The Doctor switches on a hologram feed of the hangar bay.

DOCTOR
That'll do nicely! Evacuate that! We're going to trace that energy signature. Shouldn't be too hard to find now I'm here.

Landn slams a buzzer, and an alarm goes off.

39 INT. HANGAR BAY - NIGHT
A siren sounds, and all the species in the hangar bay start to vacate the area.

40 INT. CONTRACT CONTROL HUB - NIGHT
The Ood have stepped away from the controls to allow the Doctor free reign. The hologram feed switches to a map.

DOCTOR
Just as the Resistance can hack into your tech, you can hack into theirs! Here's a map from the surface, gotta roll it back a few hours.

The land changes a lot - the End's structures disappear from the map.

DOCTOR
Few more frames…

There's a huge blast explosion on the map.

DOCTOR
Right there! A huge energy spike from when the crack opened up and the End flooded out! If we can recreate that-

SABRIL
We can open the crack, but why do you want to do that?

DOCTOR
We reverse engineer whatever source they used to escape, and suck them back in.

SABRIL
Trapping them there forever.

DOCTOR
Only choice I've got.

SABRIL
They've got their own lives.

DOCTOR
Oh, don't start this!

SABRIL
You're just doing this to save your own skin! Their future is not decided, they've got free will, we can change them-

DOCTOR
To bend their free will to yours?

SABRIL
If you're dead, we won't need to!

DOCTOR
Shut up! I don't have time for this, it's what we're doing.

The Doctor returns to the controls. Sabril is fuming.

SABRIL
I don't think so.

She forces her thumb down onto a button on her vortex manipulator, and the doors open, with a few Daleks entering.

DOCTOR
Oh, of course you've got a Dalek squadron. Trust them to join a "kill the doctor" fanclub!

SABRIL
Step away from the controls, Doctor, or they'll exterminate you!

DOCTOR
Now why on earth would they do that? They're Daleks, they don't follow orders from "inferior species".

DALEK
A suppression chip has been coded to our DNA.

DOCTOR
And you're okay with that?

No response. [Track 18 ends]

DOCTOR
How very clever. Well done. You've finally managed to control Daleks. But what you don't realise is… I'm right next to the controls. So you're not controlling them. I am!

[Track 19: (The Majestic Tale Of) An Idiot With A Box] The Doctor sonics a lever, and the Daleks go haywire, moving about uncontrollably and firing laser blasts randomly. Everyone dodges the bolts of blue light.

DALEK
Out of control! Out of control!

SABRIL
Stop him!

Landn charges at the Doctor, but a Dalek knocks into him and he falls off the platform, narrowly catching onto the ledge. Chalice runs in.

CHALICE
The Daleks are going nuts! What the hell have you done?! What's going on!?

DOCTOR
Oh, you know - Me!

The Doctor types into the controls.

DOCTOR
This is a hell of a lot of power, it's going to drain all of your resources, I'm afraid!

The lights flash and flicker, and the Doctor darts out of the control room.

41 INT. CAVE - NIGHT
Clara, Jendo, Georg, Faero and Kira run through the caves back towards the Resistance base. Another Drok smashes through the wall, and they scream - but Clara realises a small sliver of daylight.

CLARA
Quickly!

They climb through the hole in the wall up onto the surface and evade the Drok's attacks narrowly.

42 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
They hear the Drok screeching, and it smashes out of the ground, before getting hurt by the light and burrowing back underground.

JENDO
Like this place is much better!

CLARA
Hurry up!

The End creatures swarm towards them.

CLARA
Run!

They dash across the surface, with the ghostly creatures chasing after them.

43 INT. CONTRACT MOTHERSHIP WALKWAYS - NIGHT
The Doctor runs along, avoiding the Daleks' fire.

44 INT. CONTRACT CONTROL HUB - NIGHT
A Dalek zaps Sabril's vortex manipulator and it drops to the floor. Chalice eyes it malevolently.

45 INT. HANGAR BAY - NIGHT
The hangar bay is now empty, aside from a small frame which has been lowered from the ceiling, emitting an unbearably bright light. The Doctor bursts in, and grins.

DOCTOR
First the ingredients, now for the mixture! I need some sort of energy from their universe, something to attract them like a beacon, like a… like a…

He paces about, then freezes, his face lighting up. His hand begins to glow with regeneration energy.

DOCTOR
Oh, thank you very much! Regeneration from the End!

He speeds over to the frame, and thrusts his hand inside like before - except this time, the reaction is a lot more violent; around him, the overhead lights smash and crash down. The mothership burns and explodes.

46 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
The group continues to run, but then thunder claps as the Contract Mothership starts to change shape, echoing that bright light, catching their attention as it solidifies as-

A large blue structure with the words "POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX" at the top, almost like a monument.

CLARA
It's the TARDIS! It looks just like it did before, with the Great Intelligence!

JENDO
Nevermind that now, keep going! Shift yourself!

CLARA
We don't need to! Look!

The End soar towards it like a flock of boards migrating.

46 INT. TARDIS CONTROL ROOM - NIGHT
The hangar bay has changed to the TARDIS console room, but the console itself is instead a stream of white light, like from Name of the Doctor, except cleaner. The doors swing open, and all the End zoom inside, with a great magnitude that the whole room shakes, and a loud screech deafens the Doctor. As the last one enters, a colossal blast throws the Doctor out of the console, and the doors slam shut, disappearing. [Track 19 ends]

47 EXT. WASTELAND - NIGHT
The Doctor falls through the sky, hurtling at full speed towards the ground, but he suddenly tumbles into a materialising blue box.

48 INT. TARDIS - NIGHT
He lands in Clara's arms, and the pair fall onto the floor laughing.

DOCTOR
Ow… As rescues go, that wasn't half bad.

CLARA
Perfectly timed, though.

DOCTOR
Well…

They pull themselves up from the console. As the door closes, a small object flings itself into the TARDIS, slinking under the console and hiding from the Doctor and Clara.

DOCTOR
This place needs some redecoration, don't you think?

He flicks some levers.

DOCTOR
Architectural reconfiguration system… online. Set that off to work, whilst we go check on the Resistance. Are they okay?

Clara turns shy, then looks away.

CLARA
Not exactly.

The Doctor frowns.

49 INT. RESISTANCE TERRITORY - DAWN
[Track 20: The New Doctor] The Doctor, Clara and the Resistance all crowd around Zayim's body being placed into a coffin, and laid into a soldiers memorial ground, where lay a thousand other soldiers. Some are crying, but most are mournful, wearing a front of pride as to hide the sadness of the funeral.

GORDE
She died doing what she wanted. Even at the end, she went out with dignity.

CLARA
I'm so sorry.

JENDO
We're without a leader now. She never named a successor.

CLARA
The Mothership was destroyed, though. The war is over-

JENDO
There's still operations going on across the galaxy. They'll be in disarray now they've lost the CEOs, but if we don't act fast, they'll find someone to take over.

DOCTOR
And I'm not entirely sure the CEOs did die. Sabril had a vortex manipulator. And I still don't know who they were. I'm sure I'll work it out some day.

JENDO
But the question still stands; who's taking over our Resistance?

CLARA
Maybe you could do it.

JENDO
Me? But I'm just-

DOCTOR
A perfect candidate in my eyes. And it seems, theirs too.

Jendo looks to the other soldiers, who are all saluting to him. He smiles warmly.

JENDO
I'll rule firmly and wisely, in honour of all the fallen. In honour of you. And in honour of my friend and my captain Zayim.

CLARA
You'll do amazingly, I'm sure.

JENDO
On behalf of the Taulian Resistance, we thank you for all your services.

DOCTOR
No, no. Thank you. You've helped make the Universe a better place. You should be proud of yourselves.

The TARDIS vworps, and the Doctor and Clara glance back at her - the coating on the wood panels is a lighter blue, and a lot cleaner.

DOCTOR
That's her done. We'll be off.

JENDO
Woah, woah, wait- What about the portal thing?

DOCTOR
It's coded to my timestream now. The End will be projecting my entire life in there, but they can't escape. The effects on the planet should wear off in a few decades, but there might be a few time leaks along the way. But just in case something happens or someone in the future needs to get inside-

CLARA
Like an impossible girl or an idiot with a bowtie-

DOCTOR
You might want to make some secret catacombs or something to protect it.

The Doctor passes Jendo a diary titled: Trenzalore.

DOCTOR
Here's everything you need to know.

Jendo opens it up and reads a little bit, then looks back up and sees the Doctor and Clara entering the police box.

50 INT. TARDIS - NIGHT
As the Doctor and Clara step inside the TARDIS, they see the changes made to the interior - rather than the atmospheric blue glow, it's now a dark orange, almost reddish colour - with bookshelves built into the wall.

DOCTOR
What do you think? You like it?

CLARA
...It'll do.

The Doctor throws the lever and the TARDIS dematerialises.

CLARA
What now?

DOCTOR
Up to you. Do you want to go home?

CLARA
Why would I-

The TARDIS suddenly lands.

CLARA
Have we landed already? That was quick. Where are we?

The Doctor crosses his arms, not saying a word.

CLARA
What's the answer?

DOCTOR
Exactly. Wherever, whenever. That's what you choose should you step outside those doors. But if you don't think I'm the Doctor, you can… go home. Normal life, teaching, whatever you humans do now.

Clara edges towards the doors, and opens them.

51 EXT. DISTANT MOON - NIGHT
The planet's surface is clear, and reflects the rain that is falling heavily onto the ground. Clara gazes out at the view from the moon: a colourful galaxy, drifting through space. She marvels at the pretty patterns that are made through the rain.

DOCTOR
So, what do you think?

The Doctor joins her - now wearing a navy blue jacket and a crisp white shirt. He shoves his hands in his trouser pockets, showing the red lining of his jacket.

DOCTOR
Thought it'd be a nice first view. I'm looking forward to new planets, new solar systems. Everything's new with these eyes. And I'd like someone to join me. So. What do you think?

She stares out, then turns to him.

CLARA
It's rubbish. Take me somewhere warm.

The pair grin, taking each other's hand and jumping back in the box. A figure watches them, getting drenched in the rain - in a long purple tweed coat. The Eleventh Doctor. Behind him are eleven shadowy figures.

DOCTOR11
Is that it, then? My time up.

He turns around, and the figures form into his previous incarnations.

DOCTOR1
I'm afraid so, my boy.

DOCTOR11
What about Clara? Will she be safe?

DOCTOR4
Well, that depends on your point of view, you see.

DOCTOR11
Will he look after her?

The Doctors all look to each other.

DOCTOR9
It's a mad old universe out there. No-one can tell for sure what will happen. No-one will know how they end up.

DOCTOR10
It's all timey-wimey, but in the end, he's still the Doctor. Just like we are. And so are you.

DOCTOR3
It doesn't matter if he's old.

DOCTOR5
It doesn't matter if he's kind.

DOCTOR7
It doesn't matter if he's mysterious.

DOCTOR8
It doesn't matter if he's sexy.

DOCTOR2
It doesn't matter if he's a clown.

DOCTOR6
It doesn't matter if he's rude at times.

DOCTOR1
The one thing he'll always be is the Doctor, hmm?

DOCTOR10
And he will always look after her.

DOCTOR11
Good. Then I'm ready.

The Doctors link hands, with one space available for the eleventh doctor. He steps forward but then looks back.

DOCTOR
Goodbye, Clara. I'll miss you.

The Eleventh Doctor joins his past selves, and together, they disappear. Pan back to the TARDIS, which begins to fade away in the rain, zooming up into the sky for new adventures across time and space. [Track 20 ends]
