1 EXT. LONDON - DAY
[Track 1: Bah Bah Biker] The summer sun hangs brightly in the sky at its peak - obviously, it's midday, illuminating the busy streets of contemporary London.

CUT TO:

Ordinary people wander across the Millennium Bridge - some arguing, some children skipping, businessmen hurriedly organising their papers.

CUT TO:

Families enjoy the ride as the spherical pods of the London Eye spin slowly, the people at the top being gifted with an amazing view of the beautiful city below.

CUT TO:

People flood out of Fenchurch Station, narrowly avoiding others bustling to get into the station - some rushing for a train, some casually enjoying a leisurely walk. Many of them are engrossed in their phones, on a call or playing a game or listening to Spotify, whilst untangling their headphones.

CUT TO:

Car horns beep in the ongoing flow of traffic - London buses, police cars, taxis, white vans, and an array of other vehicles are caught up in the mess, underneath banners of the Union Flag and old terraced houses made from marble, stone and brick surrounding them.

CUT TO:

A wide shot of Piccadilly Circus shows the popularity of the landmark, with tourists taking photos, others strolling by, admiring the cluster of pigeons along the pavement and on top of lampposts and buildings, but in general the area is packed - the electronic screens present a variety of Coca Cola drinks, alongside displays for the Lion King stageplay, and car adverts. A black taxi pulls up, and a young woman climbs out, passing a tenner to the cab driver and wandering off into the middle of the crowd. [Track 1 ends] She is oblivious to her surroundings, her gaze fixed upon a makeshift device made from an old mobile phone, some coins and other scraps - with an antenna spinning round. The woman is sporting a white lab coat with a stick of celery attached, and a cream panama hat upon her brunette hair. It's Osgood.

OSGOOD
No… Nothing yet.

Osgood frowns, continuing to get negative readings off her little gizmo. She takes out her actual phone from her pocket, pressing a few buttons and dialling.

OSGOOD
Kate? I'm at the rendezvous, but I'm not detecting any temporal signals.

[Track 2: They Walk Among Us 0:00 - 1:13 (fadeout needed)] She looks about, and notices that the public are gawping at the pigeons, who are all flying up into the sky - every single one in the street. As she watches them ascend, she sees other birds doing the same - all flying north in unison.

OSGOOD
Kate… I think-

Her phone dissolves to dust. She wipes it away from her face, hands and clothes, then stares on in confusion. The crowd involuntarily lets out blood-curdling and fearful screams as, from the clouds, a huge structure comes crashing down towards the ground. The earth shakes violently, forming cracks which people fall into if they haven't already dived to the floor for cover. As the dust settles, everyone rushes down the road, shocked, avoiding the cars which have also stopped - a few have smashed into each other as a result of the unexpected crash. Whilst lots of buildings block their view, they can see four prongs at equidistant distances from each other, forming a square - the base of the structure, and they instantly know what it is - The Eiffel Tower has landed in the River Thames.

CUT TO:

The Millennium Bridge begins to fold in on itself, entangling itself into a whirlwind, its supports disappearing, continuing to spin in midair, increasing exponentially in speed.

CUT TO:

Big Ben's chimes sound warped, distorted as they overlap each other, drowning out the chaos of the streets, where some people are fading and glitching out of existence or ageing instantaneously, their bones cracking as their hair grows out and turns white and their skin peels off, the sky turning into a kaleidoscopic vortex, ice spikes smashing through the ground and creating huge skyscrapers across the city. Amidst the havoc, Osgood darts down the road, past broken Dalek shells, plagued corpses, confused soldiers and Silurians climbing out of the sewers. She disregards them, however, and continues towards the Tower of London, which is toppling and resetting repeatedly.

2 INT. BLACK ARCHIVE - DAY
She bursts through the doors into the Black Archive - the shelves of which are significantly emptier as the artefacts continue to disappear; but that's not what she cares about. She stops by the Space-Time telegraph and begins to type in a code, before she too begins to glitch.

OSGOOD
Oh, no…

Her celery drops to the floor as her body flakes away into nothing. [Track 2 ends]

3 EXT. SPACE
[Track 3: We Weren't Asleep That Long] The TARDIS hurtles across the vacuum of space; past constellations, star systems and colourful clouds of gas.

4 INT. TARDIS
Clara runs in to see the Doctor frantically reading the screens, typing into the controls.

CLARA
What's going on?

DOCTOR
I just received hundreds of distress calls from everywhere on Earth all at once.

CLARA
What? What's the problem?

DOCTOR
Don't know. Beijing, 12,903. Moscow, 1926. Torchwood Seven, 5140. London, 2014.

CLARA
2014? That's my time.

She takes out her phone, which has a blank screen.

CLARA
My phone's not working. I just took it out of charge.

She throws a confused look at the Doctor.

CLARA
This phone's supposed to work anywhere in the Universe.

DOCTOR
That's because I boosted the signal. Perhaps there's nothing to boost.

The Doctor throws some levers, and the TARDIS materialises.

DOCTOR
Let's go see what's wrong with Planet Earth.

He clicks his fingers and the doors open. But it doesn't look like London. It's not obvious what is outside, but from Clara's gasp and her hesitance to leave the TARDIS, it's not something good.

CLARA
That's not London.

They reach the doors, peering out to a white void. In front of them is a toppled Underground sign. It says Oxford Circus.

DOCTOR
I'm afraid it really rather is.

The pair stare out, terrified, noticing more aspects of Earth's history scattered across the endless abyss. [Track 3 ends]

ROLL TITLES

5 EXT. VOID
[Track 4: Davros Remembers] Clara edges out of the police box, which doesn't look out of place with the other random pieces of history surrounding them, held in stasis. She touches a book suspended in the air. the papers fly off, then revert to their original position, leaving her bewildered. She also sees the Berlin Wall, dinosaur eggs, bullets that should be in motion, futuristic machines, and more. She turns back to the TARDIS.

CLARA
What the hell is all this?

DOCTOR
Earth.

CLARA
Earth?

DOCTOR
Laid out before you like a painting. This is everything your planet has been, is, and will be. A perpetual trail of breadcrumbs. Memories of what was, the potential of what could be.

CLARA
But how has this happened? Where is everything?

DOCTOR
Right here in front of you. Something has happened to time. Your planet has dispersed across this limbo. Walk for long enough, you'll find the Declaration of Independence. Walk even further, you'll find a child's pet cat. Even further, you could find your boyfriend - even further, you'd find him as a baby. Maybe even find your own baby. This is the entire timeline of Earth. Every second displaced. Every atom, every creation.

CLARA
Doctor. I get it, but how is this possible?

DOCTOR
No idea. The power to do this is on a colossal scale. The ramifications this could have on the rest of the Universe… I don't like this.

CLARA
You don't? What about me? When I said I wanted to travel through time, this is not what I had in mind.

Clara rushes back inside.

6 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor scans the environment, getting some very bizarre readings that he can't make sense of on the screen.

CLARA
Is everyone safe? Are they conscious?

DOCTOR
In this state, they didn't exist. But then again, there they are.

CLARA
I don't need riddles, Doctor. Don't you dare lie because I know when you are. Are they safe? The truth this time.

DOCTOR
I don't know. Who could've done this?

Feedback screeches.

?
Coo-ee! That would've been me. I wanted to leave you speculating for a couple more hours, but this seemed the opportune moment to make my entrance. Besides, there is no time here. You're out of your jurisdiction, Time Lord.

DOCTOR
I recognise that voice.

?
I bet you do. May I make a recommendation?

DOCTOR
Is it to shut up, because please do.

?
Ooh, naughty, naughty! Honestly, we need to teach you some manners.

DOCTOR
And how are you going to do that?

?
Well, I have a few ideas in mind, but first, go outside. There's a few friends I'd like you to meet.

They approach the doors with vigorous haste and concern.

7 EXT. VOID
They spot a small, cylindrical capsule, with a variety of hatches and panels decorating it.

CLARA
That wasn't there before.

DOCTOR
You're right, it wasn't. You recognise it?

CLARA
No. Do you?

DOCTOR
No.

CLARA
Something from the future, I'm guessing.

DOCTOR
Doesn't look like standard Earth design. Too robust. The shape looks familiar, but I can't place it...

She walks out.

DOCTOR
Clara, be very, very careful. Don't walk any further.

CLARA
I'll be fine.

DOCTOR
Clara, stop.

Suddenly, the capsule opens, and smoke pours out. The doors behind Clara snap shut, and Clara spins round.

8 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor tries to reopen the doors, tugging at them.

DOCTOR
No! Clara!

?
Ooh, deary me. In a spot of bother, are we?

DOCTOR
Who are you? How do I know you?!

?
I am your worst nightmare. Now, let's go for a little trip, shall we?

The Time Rotor starts to wheeze, as the TARDIS prepares to take off.

DOCTOR
No! Clara, no!

He darts back to the console, trying to stop the dematerialisation.

9 EXT. VOID
Clara bangs on the doors. Suddenly, the TARDIS fades away in a sickly manner, groaning.

CLARA
Doctor! Stop! Come back!

A huge gale of wind blows around the box, throwing her onto the floor - there are flash bangs and torrential rainstorms surrounding her as it disappears, before resuming to its state of calm. She picks herself up, but freezes as she hears a familiar voice from behind her.

USANG
My, my, Clara Oswald...

Clara turns around slowly, dreading the appearance of Usang Jurro, his slime form shaping to be a humanoid, but still very unstable and liquidy. He's standing alongside Rafael and Judoon Captain Kol-Don-Ton, all menacingly advancing towards Clara.

USANG
Aren't we in trouble?

An evil grin forms on his face. She gasps, stumbling back, mortified. [Track 4 ends]

10 INT. TARDIS
[Track 5: Are You Going To Shoot Me?] The TARDIS is in mid flight, still fighting it as heard by the broken sounds that the console echoes. The Doctor is desperately trying to stop it, sonicing something. Sparks fly.

?
Ooh, you cheeky scamp!

DOCTOR
I think you'll find I'm a lot worse than that.

?
Promises, promises. Let's put that to the test, shall we?

The lights turn red, alarming the Doctor.

DOCTOR
What's that?

?
You don't know your own ship?

DOCTOR
I know it shouldn't be possible for you to fly it by remote.

?
Unless I'd spent some time integrating myself into the TARDIS systems.

DOCTOR
That'd take ages.

?
Which is why it's taken so long for me to exact my revenge.

DOCTOR
Still impossible. The TARDIS firewalls are absolute. How are you doing this?

?
That's for me to know, and you to find out. Let's just say it's down to my pet. I'm assuming you haven't met them yet.

DOCTOR
Your what? Woah!

The TARDIS throws him to the side, but he stabilises himself on the side panels.

DOCTOR
Where are we going?

?
Apologies, but we are experiencing slight turbulence. Please put your seatbelt on for the duration of the turbulence, and we shall resume normal service shortly. Make sure your phone services are off.

DOCTOR
This isn't a joke!

?
Aw, it's no fun if you're not enjoying the ride. Ah, that one seems good enough.

The TARDIS cuts out - the standard hum is replaced with a low whine before there is silence. A bright light floods through the windows of the TARDIS doors.

DOCTOR
What's out there?

?
Why don't you take a look?

DOCTOR
I'd rather not, not if it could be something that's going to kill me.

?
Well of course it's going to kill you, that's the whole point of a revenge plan, isn't it? But I'm nice, it's not straight away. Well I mean, it's nice for you right now, but I was hoping it was supposed to intimidate you. Not even a tiny bit scared? Ah, nevermind. Go to the scanner, I'll show you.

The Doctor pulls the screen towards him as it boots up, showing him the view outside the police box - mostly deep space, an empty blackness, aside from a burning orb, blazing and vicious, its beams reaching out in rings - unfortunately for the Doctor, its getting closer and closer.

?
You've entered the gravitational pull of a star. Your TARDIS systems are defunct and you've got about… twenty minutes to live. So what are you going to do now? Beg for mercy?

DOCTOR
I'd rather die.

?
Ha. Poor choice of words there, Doc.

DOCTOR
Nobody calls me Doc. Why are you doing this?

?
I need you to pay. I'll give you some thinking time, let you work out where you went wrong. If you figure it out, we'll talk. Until then, toodles!

The voice disappears, and the Doctor is left alone in the dead time machine - in the moment, he compares his own fate to the vehicle he's residing in.

DOCTOR
Not defeated. Never defeated.

He studies the controls, tapping his foot impatiently.

DOCTOR
Maybe a little defeated, but who can't handle a little stress every now and again?

He wipes away sweat forming from his forehead, presumably from the rising temperature in proximity to the star, but he knows it could definitely be due to something far worse. [Track 5 ends]

11 EXT. VOID
[Track 6: Double Crossed] Clara stares at the three figures in front of her.

CLARA
Usang… Usang Jurro. But you were imprisoned, back in the American Civil War.

USANG
Jailbreak, my dear.

CLARA
And Judoon… Last time I saw you, Ririnax the Ravenous was leading a revolution against you and ending your tyranny.

KOL-DON-TON
Judoon troop retreated. New contractor established.

CLARA
Contractor?

USANG
I think we should make her pay. For what she did to us.

RAFAEL
She killed my friend. Now we kill her.

CLARA
You… I didn't kill your friend. I was the one on the submarine.

RAFAEL
You were in league with Taybrock van Erkbius.

CLARA
I wasn't, but, to be fair, you did push me into an exploding submarine.

KOL-DON-TON
Arguments shall cease!

Kol-Don-Ton shoves Clara, and she trips.

KOL-DON-TON
Clara Oswald shall be imprisoned.

CLARA
You keep away from me.

USANG
Not a chance. You see, whilst our contractor gets the Doctor, we get to play with you.

CLARA
And why destroy Earth? How have you done this?

USANG
A simple, elegant trap. A lure so scary and so brilliant the Doctor could not refuse. Welcome to our domain, Miss Oswald. This is a world we have created through terror, and it's all for you. Say goodbye to everything you once knew, because you are ours.

Clara turns on her heel and sprints off. The Judoon Captain takes out his blaster, and fires one bolt. It narrowly misses Clara and hits a chair, which disintegrates. She doesn't look back, doesn't stop, even though in her face she's terrified and wants to hide - but she knows they'll find her.

RAFAEL
She's getting away! Give me that gun, you big brute!

Rafael snatches the gun off the Judoon.

KOL-DON-TON
Armed suspect! Offense committed!

USANG
Ah-ah-ah! No need for that. Give it back.

Rafael hesitantly passes the gun back to the Judoon.

USANG
There's no need for us to kill her straight away. She knows as well as we do that this is our world! There is no escape for her. She plays by our rules, and it won't be long before she's in our grasp again. Not that she ever left.

Usang hisses, his voice rippling. [Track 6 ends]

12 INT. TARDIS
[Track 7: A Mechanical Maze] The control room is still encroached in darkness, whilst the Doctor is tinkering away underneath the console.

?
Guten tag, as they say on Earth!

DOCTOR
Not you again. What now?

?
I thought I'd come and pester you.

DOCTOR
Throw me off my target?

?
Exactly.

DOCTOR
That means I'm getting close, then.

?
Ooh, fast wit. Let's have a look through the TARDIS databanks, shall we?

He rolls his eyes, before pulling himself out from underneath and running towards a chalkboard.

DOCTOR
I'm predicting a velocity of 5,029,200 metres per second. Not good at all. Who's got the means to do this?

?
Nice playlist, Doctor! Birdy Song? That's not like you. And you've got some real cute chicks. I mean, you've clearly got a type!

DOCTOR
Shut up now.

?
Am I getting under your skin?

DOCTOR
I need to find the source of your communications.

?
At last! Forget about the impending doom, think about what's causing it! That fast wit isn't as fast as I expected. I overestimated you, Doc.

DOCTOR
Shut up! The TARDIS can't be in complete shutdown, otherwise you wouldn't be able to talk to me. So, I'll go to the Cloister Room, track the power source and reroute it to the auxiliary time circuits so-

?
Chatter, chatter, chatter! You know the vibe I'm getting from this dialogue? Do ya?

DOCTOR
I really don't care.

?
Ah, but that's the thing. You do. Tell me, where is Clara Oswald?

DOCTOR
Back in that void. And I'll find her.

?
And why do you have her around?

DOCTOR
Because she's my friend?

?
Oh, of course. What about… Miss Martha Jones? Was she your friend?

DOCTOR
Yes.

?
And Barbara Wright? Ian Chesterton? Tegan Jovanka? From what I'm reading here, you argued a lot with them. So why did you keep them around?

DOCTOR
This is a distraction.

He makes his way back down the stairs.

?
I'll tell you why. Because you need to think you're special. You need to prove yourself by impressing everyone around you. That's why you're explaining what you're doing even though you're all alone.

DOCTOR
You're here.

?
Exactly. And I just said I overestimated you. You need people to think you're important. That's the reason behind all this.

DOCTOR
No.

?
Yes, it is!

DOCTOR
No, it absolutely isn't!

He storms off towards the corridor.

DOCTOR
I'm going to find out who you are, how you're doing this, and why. I'm going to save the Earth and my friends, and then I'm going to find you. And you're going to wish you hadn't messed with me.

?
There you go, that impressive spiel once again. You can't help but show off, can you? What a priss.

DOCTOR
You're going to regret that.

?
That's all you can say? The mighty Time Lord? The Doctor, the man who claims to help, to heal, to be kind, but has inspired armies and fought creatures from before time itself? You can't help yourself! That's the whole reason that you're still doing this after all this time! You're not a good man. You're not fixing the Universe out of the goodness of your soul. You're addicted! You keep fighting because if you stop, you're nothing. No-one will love you. You'll just be a crazy old man who lives in a box, talking of days gone by and never were.

DOCTOR
A usual Saturday then.

He enters the corridors and turns left. [Track 7 ends]

13 EXT. VOID
[Track 8: Regicide] Clara bounds across the strange realm, past paint splatters, bricks and random people of different ethnicities. She hears a loud bang and cowers behind a road sign, with all the directions in German. As she looks over her shoulder, she notes a large scorch mark - as if something had exploded, but without a crater. She glances around, then dubiously approaches it - there are pieces of shrapnel.

CLARA
This wasn't here just now.

RAFAEL
No, Miss Oswald. It wasn't.

A human figure flickers before her and she gasps.

RAFAEL
We have the power to manipulate the area around you. This world is everything, but nothing. Your world has been stilled, so we know when there's something moving. We know where you are. Always.

Another explosion nearby. She flinches, and continues running, the sounds of crashing and banging following her. Every now and then, Rafael appears beside her, and each time, she turns and runs in a different direction. Very soon, she sees a blue box, with the words POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX marked above it. Grinning, she runs to the doors, pushing against them.

CLARA
Come on, open up! Doctor? Doctor!

She fumbles around in her pocket and finds the TARDIS key. She inserts it into the lock, and twists it and the doors swing open. It's a normal police box.

CLARA
No… No, no, no!

RAFAEL
Clara… Clara Oswald!

She jumps into the box and closes the doors swiftly. [Track 8 ends]

14 INT. POLICE BOX
[Track 9: The Veil 1:56 - 2:45] Light streams through the windows. Clara pants, as she hears a dripping. Whispering, she closes her eyes, and hugs herself.

CLARA
I'm safe. I'm safe, I'm safe.

USANG
Oh, my dear, Miss Oswald…

Usang appears in front of her, hanging from the ceiling.

USANG
Did you really think that a wooden box could stop me?

Clara screams, kicking the doors off and diving under him.

15 EXT. VOID
Clara darts across the void, but Usang quickly forms an arm with a fist in a very strong position, reaching out and grabbing her. She screams.

USANG
Boys! We got her!

CLARA
No! Get off me!

She tries to wrestle herself out of Usang's slimy grip, and she eventually does. The objects around her suddenly blow up, and she falls to the floor.

RAFAEL
That's why I was contracted to kill Taybrock, y'see? Access to explosives. Now I suggest you stay right where you are.

The Judoon Captain stomps towards her and aims his gun. She freezes, putting her hands up. Usang and Rafael close in on her alongside the Judoon.

JUDOON
Suspect reprimanded.

RAFAEL
What do we do with her now?

USANG
I've got the perfect idea. Captain, we're gonna need an H2O scoop.

Clara's breath wavers. [Track 9 ends]

16 EXT. SPACE
[Track 10: The Doctor's Plan] As the TARDIS nears the star, flames begin to ignite around it, as if it were entering the atmosphere.

17 INT. TARDIS CORRIDOR
The lights flash red, as the Doctor, sweating immensely, sprints through.

?
Where are you going now? Zero Room perhaps? The TARDIS Archives? The Cloisters? Ooh, how about the Green Room?

DOCTOR
I get it, you've got access to the Architectural Configuration System. If you know where I'm going, you can stop me from ever finding it.

?
Oh, I can do more than that.

A high pitched alarm rings.

DOCTOR
That's the intruder alarm. Teleport breach?

?
Well done. Just to throw you off a bit more, I've sent in a stalker. How about a nice little game of hide and seek?

The Doctor turns a corner, and sees a bulky robot. It's armed with a variety of different weapons - lasers, drills, arrows, ice blasters, etc.

?
Ooh. Caught already. You're not very good, are you?

The Doctor spins back around and runs off down a different corridor. The robot is in hot pursuit.

?
Keep going, Doc! Wear yourself out!

He continues down the corridors, all looking identical to anyone else but him, who recognises the section he's in, grinning. He waits for the robot to see him before bursting through a heavy door, leaving it wide open for the robot to follow him inside.

18 INT. TARDIS VAULT
The robot enters a beautiful crypt with lots of large chests, made from a mossy stone brick, in a thick bronze colour. Built into the walls are screens, reading "WARNING - PROXIMITY TO DANGER/ POWER CRITICAL/ SHIELD LEVELS: 24%", with the number gradually decreasing. The robot smashes open the chests, hunting for the Doctor, not realising he's hiding behind the door. He swiftly climbs out and shuts the door.

19 INT. TARDIS CORRIDOR
The door locks behind him.

DOCTOR
TARDIS Vault. Unbreakable. Any damage sustained immediately regenerates. In that room holds some of the most dangerous relics in the Universe.

?
Normally, unbreakable.

The robot creates a huge dent in the door.

?
But the TARDIS' power is low.

The Doctor backs away and resumes running, as another dent is made, and the door is slowly being broken down. The door tries to repair itself, but each blow makes the situation worse until the glass covering the lights around the door smash, and the door flies off its hinges. [Track 10 ends]

CUT TO:

[Track 11: Quill's Got A Gun] The Doctor climbs down a ladder to a corridor with exposed wires and metal grating, revealing circuitry under the floor.

DOCTOR
Nearly there, nearly there.

He pants, finally accepting that the effects of the TARDIS' proximity to the star is taking a toll on him.

DOCTOR
Nearly there.

?
Wha… Where are you? I can't see you.

DOCTOR
This area of the TARDIS is subject to forces even I can't comprehend. I'm shrouded, you can't find me.

?
Is that a challenge?

He comes across a double oak-panelled door and opens them.

20 INT. TARDIS LIBRARY
Beside a bookshelf is a small area set up for a meditation circle, with candles and a rug, with the myriad bottles whispering away. The Doctor sits in the middle.

DOCTOR
Okay, calm… breathe. Where is the power surge?

His eyes shut, his hands resting on the wooden floorboards, feeling them, becoming one with them. In his head, the Doctor explores his spaceship, speeding through the corridors, until he reaches a large junction, almost in a ring shape, with different doors stacked up next to each other.

DOCTOR
Of course. The bedrooms. They were giving me a clue by going through the TARDIS' data. One of my companions must've left something here, a radio or something, and they're using that to contact me. Problem is, if they can use the ARS, the bedrooms could be on the other side of the TARDIS by now. I'd never get there in time. I need to… freeze him out.

?
Hey, hey, what are you doing? How are you- AGH!

There's a buzzing coming from over the speakers, and the Doctor opens his eyes.

DOCTOR
I know the way. And I've got… nine minutes and twenty six seconds left. Easy peasy.

He jumps to his feet and rushes out. [Track 11 ends]

21 INT. TARDIS
[Track 12: A Good Man 4:44 - 7:34] The scanner flashes different words across as the room bursts into flames - "WARNING - PROXIMITY TO DANGER/ POWER CRITICAL/ SHIELD LEVELS: 12%".

22 INT. TARDIS CORRIDOR
The Doctor races through the corridors until he comes across the junction he saw earlier. He opens one door, and sees a very regal room, with a potted plant in the corner and elegant paintings of Gallifreyan landscapes hanging above a sofa. He shuts that door and opens one immediately next to it, to a room with pink jumpers and 21st century hair products strewn about the place - a typical bedroom for a nineteen year old girl from the Powell Estate. It's the same size, the dimensions appearing impossible for them to be consecutive due to the intimate nature of the two doors. He tries another door, seeing Clara's bedroom, and then enters one more - cans of nitro 9 are laid recklessly about the floor, along with a large boombox.

DOCTOR
Ace!

He picks up the boombox and rushes back down the way he came.

23 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor returns to the control room, launching himself up the stairs and resting he boombox on the TARDIS console. He reads the screen. "WARNING - PROXIMITY TO DANGER/ POWER CRITICAL/ SHIELD LEVELS: 7%"

DOCTOR
7%. That gives me… two minutes? Easy, plenty to do in two minutes! Like pilot myself away from a star!

The Doctor tries to avoid the flames that are breaking out across the console, fanning them.

?
Running out of time! Are you sure you've got the power to escape? I think it's too late.

DOCTOR
Shut up, I don't need you now.

?
I think I might get some popcorn, this seems exciting. Ooh, what if you've got the wrong item? Did you think about that?

DOCTOR
Not at all.

?
Of course not, because you're a pompous arrogant-

DOCTOR
That's enough!

?
-who never can admit when he's wrong!

DOCTOR
I said, that's enough! You may be enjoying your games now, but I promise you that you'll be regretting all this taunting.

The Doctor dives under the console and pulls out two wires, which he plugs into the boombox.

DOCTOR
Never put me against a ticking clock! You were trying to make me scared, but you don't know me at all!

?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Are you actually going to do it?

DOCTOR
Scared yet?

?
No!

The intercom fizzles away.

DOCTOR
Being plunged into a star, do me a favour! Everyone knows I work best under pressure! Now give me co-ordinates!

The screen glitches.

DOCTOR
Time, location, anything, where's the source?!

The time rotor begins to crack.

DOCTOR
Come on!

The screen reads "WARNING - PROXIMITY TO DANGER/ POWER OFFLINE/ SHIELD LEVELS: 5%"

DOCTOR
I need a power boost! All that's left is the external shields, if I rerouted that- but I'm too close, the TARDIS would burn up in an instant!

He looks to the doors, which are covered in a deep orange light.

DOCTOR
He's right, I was too late. I'm sorry, Clara.

He falls to the floor, defeated, hopeless, baked in sweat. Until he hears a clanking, and his face lights up. The robot enters the door, pointing a laser gun.

DOCTOR
Oh, yes! Thank you, sir!

He dodges a blast which hits a bookshelf and smashes it. He makes his way around to the other side of the console and removes a panel, before running around as the robot catches him in its crosshairs.

DOCTOR
Please, give me some time, we've got 40 seconds at most!

He rests on one of the side panels, flicking some switches, before returning to the main console and throwing a lever. The Doctor returns to the panel which is exposing its circuitry. The robot aims at the Doctor, and as he ducks, the blast hits the console and the TARDIS sparks into life, groaning and dematerialising.

DOCTOR
Oh no, you don't!

The Doctor pulls another lever, and the doors spring open. As he grabs the boombox, he holds onto the railings as the TARDIS crashes to its side and the robot is flung out of the doors and into the star. It tries to grab onto the doors.

DOCTOR
Just hold out a bit longer, old girl!

The TARDIS shakes violently, trying to get the robot to let go, but it seems to be the Doctor who's losing his grip. The robot melts and falls apart. He too falls towards the doors, he clicks his fingers and lands against them as they shut.

24 EXT. SPACE
The fire surrounding the TARDIS dissolves as the box disappears, inches away from the star. [Track 12 ends]

25 INT. TARDIS
The flames subside and the TARDIS begins to repair itself.

DOCTOR
Normal service will resume shortly. Turbulence over.

He pants, resting his head against the door.

DOCTOR
Let's try this again, shall we?

He stumbles towards the console.

26 EXT. VOID
Big Ben stands high above the objects below, its paintwork fresh and its clock face clean.

27 INT. BIG BEN TOWER
[Track 13: Listen] Clara's hands are bound by a rope, suspended from the bell to a vast drop into the inner workings of the tower. Usang slithers around her on a ledge.

USANG
Now, I wouldn't move. That rope isn't too tight. Well, you can't really expect me to be the best at knots, can you? I'm made of liquid, we're lucky that you got- Never mind.

CLARA
Why are you doing this? It's more than revenge.

USANG
No, it's not. Some people, they've got other motivations for crime. Boo hoo, my family's poor. Boo hoo, I got peer pressured into it. Me? I do it because I can. I've got the perfect system.

CLARA
Steal someone's body, commit a crime, let them take the fall. I remember.

USANG
But YOU… You managed to find a loophole. I had you right where I wanted you, you were dying, and you still stopped me. You had one chance and you took that. How can you always win? You don't know how sick it makes me. You don't know what I experienced in the Qutov jails. It was disgusting! I was locked up with serial killers, terrorists, assaulters. People like me. But they weren't. They were disgusting, stupid invalids. They allowed themselves to get caught, and I was clever. For a while, I beat them. I escaped. I always escaped. But then you came along and ruined me. I was lumped in with all the rest of those dumb criminals who couldn't cover their tracks!

CLARA
You got caught trying to cover your tracks. You let Maryann escape her apartment. You couldn't let her live, but it took you ages to find her. So who's to say you're better than them?

USANG
Use your next words wisely!

Usang slides up along the walls, the ceiling and down onto the bell before finally reaching Clara's face.

CLARA
Get off me!

USANG
Don't you DARE speak to me like that! With one little move, you'll drop all the way to the floor. Wheee, splat! So, what are we going to do about that?

Clara shuts up.

USANG
Beg.

CLARA
You what?

USANG
You heard me, girl. Beg. Beg for mercy before I let you fall 300 feet to your death.

CLARA
Why?

USANG
Because you need to know that I'm supreme! You might have won the first battle, but you waged a war you can't possibly win! You're inferior! You tried to fight me, you tried to oppose me, and here you are now, LOCKED UP AND ABOUT TO DIE BECAUSE OF ME! Say it. Say you're inferior! Beg for mercy!

CLARA
That's what it's all about. You don't think you're good enough. You're trying to prove to yourself that you're better than everyone else but you don't have to be. You don't have to live this life.

USANG
Shut up! Are you trying to appeal to my better nature? Idiot girl!

Usang returns to the ledge, and returns to his humanoid form.

USANG
We're going to start time again, but just in this spot. As soon as that bell rings, you're falling. Rhino cop wanted to speed it up, y'know, justice is swift and all that, but I want to make each moment hurt. I want you to dread the end that is inevitable. Any final confessions?

Beat. [Track 13 ends]

CLARA
I'm sorry.

Usang is taken aback.

USANG
What?

CLARA
I'm sorry that you feel like this. But there's more-

Usang scoffs and slithers away.

CLARA
There's more to life than what you currently see! It's beautiful, and we're tiny in the grand scale of things, but that's okay! You don't have to be the best criminal there is to be noticed, you can just be you! Tiny things, that's life!

USANG
There's nothing you can say to change my mind.

He looks to one of the clock faces.

USANG
You've got… 13 minutes. Enjoy the suspense.

Usang dissolves through the floor. As he slides down, he shows a small flicker of concern, before he disregards it and continues. Clara looks around the rope slightly splitting, searching for an escape. The minute hand spins around.

28 INT. PALACE - NIGHT
[Track 14: Musician's Village] The TARDIS materialises in the corner of a great hall - dozens of red and yellow pillars decorate the room with a tiled floor, an ornate oriental design on the walls and a large podium with a regal throne in the middle. The Doctor pokes his head out.

DOCTOR
Hello?

Many servants and soldiers are busy, fussing and moving things swiftly, that they barely even notice the Doctor. He strolls around.

DOCTOR
I don't think this is the place. Must've bounced the co-ordinates somehow. Or something threw me off. I really don't like this.

The ground trembles and the peasants clamour, as flames erupt outside an immaculate window. The Doctor glances outside.

DOCTOR
Oh…

Pan out to reveal…

29 EXT. FORBIDDEN CITY - NIGHT
The Doctor is in the Imperial Palace - a grand temple drenched in different shades of red and an elegant roof standing tall above Beijing, for this time period, it should be brand new - however, now Beijing is in ruins. Explosions ignite across the city, smoke rising high into the sky with the cries of rebellion brewing.

29 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor returns to the console.

DOCTOR
Early 9th Century China. But gunpowder wasn't used for warfare for around 100 years. So what's gone wrong? This must be the cause for this paradox. So they can time travel.

The Doctor twists a dial.

DOCTOR
If I collect enough temporal particles looming about this area, I should be able to follow the trace back even further.

The TARDIS judders.

DOCTOR
Still repairing, take your time, it's not like there's a rebellion that shouldn't be there outside those- WOAH!

The Doctor is thrown to the floor.

30 EXT. FORBIDDEN CITY - NIGHT
The explosions near the Palace - and one hits! The architecture begins to crumble, and through the window, the TARDIS gives way and falls through the floor.

31 INT. PALACE - NIGHT
Rebels smash through the palace doors, fighting the guards and destroying the decorations, burning it to the ground. They try to move the TARDIS.

32 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor tries to stabilise the ship.

DOCTOR
If you could hurry up.

The TARDIS responds with a low, passive-aggressive beep.

DOCTOR
I'm not rushing you!

The Doctor pulls himself up, as there is a light ding.

DOCTOR
Thank you very much!

He notices that they're trying to break through the doors.

DOCTOR
Where's the next trace?

The TARDIS displays some co-ordinates.

DOCTOR
Locking on.

The doors crack.

DOCTOR
We really need to build your shield strength up. Please tell me that this next stop is safe.

He reads the symbols and numbers.

DOCTOR
Maybe not. Ah well, it's now or never!

The Doctor throws a lever.

33 INT. PALACE - NIGHT
The TARDIS dematerialises before the rebels' eyes - they're stunned. [Track 14 ends]

34 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor fixes his eyes on the scanner.

DOCTOR
Wait for it… wait for it… There!

He sees a blip, and slams his hand down on the console. A small panel opens up underneath and spits out a small metal object. The Doctor runs towards what it ejected, and picks it up.

DOCTOR
Where did you come from?

He runs downstairs to his desk, and studies it.

DOCTOR
I recognise this technology. It's from Trenzalore. The Contract used this…

CUT TO:

Flashback to the Doctor landing in Clara's arms after falling from the Contract mothership. They pull themselves up from the console. As the door closes, a small object flings itself into the TARDIS, slinking under the console and hiding from the Doctor and Clara.

CUT TO:

The Doctor realises, slightly scared.

DOCTOR
Of course. I can't believe I didn't realise it earlier. One of the CEOs did survive. Chalice!

He grimaces, before climbing back up to the main dais.

DOCTOR
Now it starts.

He pulls a lever.

35 INT. GERMAN CONTROL AIRLINER - NIGHT
[Track 15: Tell Me, Am I A Good Man] Two silhouettes look out of a window in a futuristic flying room. It's dark and cloudy outside, and the battlefield below contains a deathly silence, both sides waiting on eternity to pass them by, waiting for the end of their lives, which they're sure is soon. They speak to each other in German.

CHALICE
Das ist es, mein Freund. Eure Zeit ist gekommen. Gehen Sie, geben Sie den Befehl, und am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Gewinnen Sie den Zweiten Weltkrieg, und werden Führer von allen!

HITLER
Natürlich, mein Führer.

The second shadow walks off, as the first steps into the light. It's Chalice, who's surprised to hear a familiar rasping and a bright light appear behind him - the TARDIS.

DOCTOR
That was German, wasn't it?

CHALICE
Want a drink?

He pours some alcohol and downs it.

DOCTOR
I don't think so.

CHALICE
How long have you been watching?

DOCTOR
Not long. Took me a while to track you down. You've been everywhere.

CHALICE
I know. Fun, wasn't it? My little easter egg hunt. Which place was your favourite? Storming of the Bastille with laser guns? Thanksgiving ending before it started? Ooh, what about the metal Trojan Horse coming from the Persians?

DOCTOR
This isn't a game. You're messing with the web of time. You've tampered with the fabric on which the Universe rests on, it's fragile. One more step and the whole thing could shatter.

CHALICE
It did shatter. All of it, at the same time. You saw what happened to Earth.

DOCTOR
Why did you bring me here?

CHALICE
What do you mean?

DOCTOR
I'm not an idiot. You could've killed me easily. You purposefully made it so I could escape your trap. Why?

CHALICE
Isn't it obvious? Welcome to the endgame! Take a look outside.

The Doctor looks out of the window. It's London, but it's been almost pulverised, the buildings being used like sandbags and trenches now lining the streets.

CHALICE
Before this war started, that city had a population of eight and a half million. Guess how many are there now? Go on, guess.

DOCTOR
No.

CHALICE
Oh, you're such a spoilsport.

DOCTOR
Only when there's maniacs ruining the established course of events.

CHALICE
Six thousand. Give or take. Imagine that. Eight million people dead in one year. Now this is a timeline I can get behind. Check your history books, Doctor. 21st July, 1940. The day the Germans won the war. You're just in time to witness history!

HITLER (oc)
This is a message to all bombers. Open fire!

CHALICE
My mate Adolf Hitler.

DOCTOR
Open fire? On what?

CHALICE
Whaddya think? Use your brain. It's 1940. They're about to bomb England. Why don't we take a look?

Once again, they stare out the window.

36 EXT. LONDON - NIGHT
The three of them are standing on the top level of a massive airliner. In the window of the level below is a small figure: this is Hitler. Below the Control Airliner is a horde of smaller but still big planes. They are futuristic and painted with swastikas. They start to drop futuristic bombs, and everything on the surface is atomised.

37 INT. GERMAN CONTROL AIRLINER - NIGHT
The Doctor is distraught. Chalice claps his hands.

CHALICE
The German troops just retreated via teleports of my own design. Never could resist an ambush. Britain is dead. Even worse than Chernobyl, 26 years before that even happened.

DOCTOR
Why? Why do all this?

CHALICE
Because now you know what it's like. This is you. Everything that's happened here is you. You claim to save the Universe but you just leave destruction. You murdered Sabril and Landn. You murdered Zayim and everyone else on board the Mothership, and countless others across the Universe.

DOCTOR
But you escaped easily.

CHALICE
Sabril's vortex manipulator. It was damaged, took me a while to regain power, but oh, this was worth it. Revenge. To show you who you truly are.

DOCTOR
What now? You've got me where you want me. You've made your point. What are you going to do? Shoot me?

CHALICE
I mean, that's a bit basic.

DOCTOR
You don't have a gun on you, then.

CHALICE
Of course I've got a gun on me, that's just simple etiquette, isn't it?

He sighs.

CHALICE
I guess I could shoot you. It's effective, but there could be something better, don't you think? I was kinda hoping you'd realise the error of your ways and you'd… you know, be so distressed you take your own life. End it all. Dark ending, but fitting. Not gonna do that? No? Oh, well.

Chalice takes out the gun and points it at the Doctor.

DOCTOR
Go on, then. What after? Earth goes back to normal?

CHALICE
Well, with you out the way, that planet's not got a chance, so there's no point delaying the inevitable. But the rest of the Universe is free of your tyranny, and I'll go liberate somewhere else.

DOCTOR
That's who you think you are? A freedom fighter?

CHALICE
Who would you say I am?

DOCTOR
An anarchist.

CHALICE
Risky move, saying that to the man with the gun.

DOCTOR
You won't shoot it.

He pauses, pondering on this for a moment.

CHALICE
No. You're right. You will.

He passes the gun to the Doctor.

DOCTOR
What?

CHALICE
Well, you want to save Earth, don't you? And I'm always going to be behind you, screwing up your plans, just like you do to everyone else. So you've got no choice, you've got to kill me. And when you do that, you'll realise you are exactly what I say you are. And then you'll off yourself. Right? So, let's get on with it.

DOCTOR
That's not going to happen.

CHALICE
Yes, it is. Let's stop beating about the bush and do it. Come on.

He stares at Chalice, utterly bewildered, but then stops, thinks for a moment, and raises the gun. Chalice forms a huge grin on his face. [Track 15 ends]

38 INT. BIG BEN TOWER
[Track 16: Dorothea] The rope is still weakening. Clara tries to stretch, her legs not even grazing the ledge. She yelps as the rope slips down a little and she drops even further. She freezes, not wanting to move a muscle for fear of falling. The clock tells Clara that there's only five minutes before she does. Rafael stares at her.

CLARA
What are you looking at?

RAFAEL
You.

CLARA
Obviously. Why?

RAFAEL
You seem like such a reasonable person. Why would you be friends with Taybrock Van Erkbius?

CLARA
I wasn't.

RAFAEL
That's a lie.

CLARA
It's not. The Doctor was the friend of Taybrock. I was travelling with the Doctor. I don't even know if he's still alive. Do you?

RAFAEL
If our boss has anything to say about it, probably not.

CLARA
Who is your boss?

RAFAEL
Does it matter?

CLARA
Probably not. But I'm going to die soon. I really don't see a way out of this. So there's no reason not to tell me.

RAFAEL
I don't know. None of us do. He says he's got a grievance against the Doctor and wants our help. He says he knows that you've wronged us, and he can help us get revenge - if we do him a favour. Which was destroying your planet.

CLARA
What? You, a pile of slime, and a corrupt rhino? I get what Jurro's getting out of this, I kinda see your point, but what about what's-his-face?

RAFAEL
As far as he's aware, you're the only criminal here. He's shutting down unlawful activity.

CLARA
So if I told him that you were a terrorist…

RAFAEL
You won't get the chance. And there's no reason for him to believe you. I'm sorry, Clara, but you're right. There isn't a way out of this.

CLARA
You don't have to go through with this! Taybrock got arrested, you got what you wanted!

RAFAEL
I wanted him dead! Everyone wants him dead!

CLARA
That's not the way!

RAFAEL
You really think someone like him could change?

CLARA
Don't you?

RAFAEL
No. I don't.

Clara's head falls.

RAFAEL
I'm not changing my mind. He killed one too many people, and I'm getting back at him.

Rafael strides away.

CLARA
This isn't going to change anything! Taybrock didn't give a damn about me! You're murdering me for nothing!

He disappears from sight, and a tear rolls down Clara's face. [Track 16 ends]

39 INT. GERMAN CONTROL AIRLINER - NIGHT
[Track 17: The Greatest Story Never Told 1:47 - 2:51] A tense silence between Chalice and the Doctor, who's still pointing the gun.

CHALICE
What are you waiting for? There's no rescue this time. My people will have killed Clara by now. One of the worst dictators in history is right downstairs. Your TARDIS is damaged. You're not leaving this place alive.

DOCTOR
That's not what I'm worried about.

CHALICE
Course not, cos you're so selfless, you'd die to save the Earth. But Earth's gone. There's no way to save it.

The airliner rumbles slightly.

DOCTOR
Turbulence?

CHALICE
That's not right. It's fitted with course stabilisers. Must be faulty.

He shakes his head and gets closer to the Doctor, pressing the gun to his chest.

CHALICE
What's the matter, Doc? You scared to pull the trigger? How's this any different from the time you killed the Dalek Supreme? Or the Time Lords? Your own people. You butchered them!

DOCTOR
Stop it!

CHALICE
You have the means to make me stop! Right in your hands.

It shakes again, even more violently this time.

DOCTOR
Don't make me do it. It's not right. Just fix time before it's too late...

The Doctor realises - one of relief and horror at the same moment.

DOCTOR
Oh. Time. Oh, don't you see?

CHALICE
See what?

DOCTOR
You have been tearing gigantic holes in the fabric of time! Do you know what happens now? Time is breaking apart, and they're gonna come and try to seal the wound!

CHALICE
Who are?

DOCTOR
They are!

He points upwards. Through the glass roof, they can see the sky start to ripple. The Doctor is still pointing.

CHALICE
What? The gods?

DOCTOR
Definitely not. Gods would show mercy. You didn't listen, Chalice. You thought it was all a game. Well, meet the champions. They invented the game. They make the rules. They enforce the rules. And if they see something they don't like, then game over. No more lives.

CHALICE
What rules? What the hell are you talking about?

DOCTOR
The rules of time.

Chalice stops smiling. They look up. The sky is pulsating and glowing. Suddenly, it starts to rip. A line of bright white starts to tear through the sky. It opens up and reveals a purple space behind. And from it, fly three Reapers.

CHALICE
What the hell are they?

DOCTOR
Reapers.

The Doctor scowls. [Track 17 ends]

40 INT. BIG BEN TOWER
[Track 18: We Don't Need To Land 0:00 - 1:36] The cogs are ticking below Clara, getting closer to the chimes of midnight. Getting closer to her destruction. Echoing from below, she can hear an argument taking place between the three henchmen.

RAFAEL
You don't understand, just hear me out.

USANG
Idiot, she's in your head.

KOL-DON-TON
We go - no weapons allowed. I shall confiscate them.

RAFAEL
Well that's just stupid. Besides, we don't have time-

KOL-DON-TON
I will confiscate!

Clara ignores them, and tries to swing towards the ledge. As she moves through the air, the rope comes loose from the bell. It rings loudly, throwing her off a little, but still managing to wrap the rope around a small post that's resting on the ridge, dangling down.

USANG
It's too late now. She's dead.

RAFAEL
I didn't hear any screams, did you? Come on!

Clara tries to pull herself up, which she does with relative ease. The three step out from a lift and are shocked to see the girl.

KOL-DON-TON
Stop!

Clara raises her hands, whilst the Judoon takes out a device and uses it. The bell stops moving.

CLARA
Okay, let's just talk about this rationally.

USANG
Can we have our weapons back, Captain? I think we need to kill her.

KOL-DON-TON No!
You have conversed with the prisoner. You cannot be trusted with weapons. You may be a traitor.

RAFAEL
You're not so innocent yourself, Captain. The cop who targeted an innocent man and the serial killer. Yeah, that's right. Your associate isn't so innocent either, Captain. Miss Oswald is right. She isn't part of our fight. We're being manipulated, tricked.. We have our own choices! We don't have to do this!

CLARA
Listen to him!

USANG
I knew you were weak-hearted. You know, you give us this spiel about how you're better than everyone else, how you're fighting for the right thing, but when it comes down to it, you're so easily corrupted.

RAFAEL
I'm not corrupted! I opened my mind to new possibilities!

USANG
It means the same thing!

RAFAEL
Why do you both have to be fixed in your ways? You might have led a life of murder before, but you don't have to continue this way!

KOL-DON-TON
Statement rejected. She is guilty. Sentence: Execution!

RAFAEL
No! NO!

Kol-Don-Ton takes out his own blaster, and points it at Clara. Rafael jumps in front, and the blaster hits his heart. Clara shrieks as he smacks onto the floor.

CLARA
No! What have you done?!

Clara crouches by Rafael.

CLARA
I'm sorry…

RAFAEL
I never got the chance to make a change… A positive influence.

CLARA
You tried your best at the end. You're dying for love. That's so positive.

RAFAEL
Miss Oswald… Clara… Take this.

Clara sees a vortex manipulator lying on the floor where Rafael's wrist was.

RAFAEL
Please. Save your friend. Stop them.

CLARA
I will.

He goes limp, and Clara picks up the vortex manipulator. [Track 18 ends]

CLARA
You didn't have to do that.

USANG
It was a mistake. He'll correct it now.

KOL-DON-TON
You are a murderer?

USANG
Oh, no. No, no, no!

The Captain scans him.

KOL-DON-TON
Criminal intent detected! Sentence: Execution!

Usang bolts away, but he's still shot.

CLARA
Stop it! You don't have to kill anyone!

The gun is aimed at Clara once again, but she's too quick - and she teleports away.

41 INT. GERMAN CONTROL AIRLINER - NIGHT
[Track 19: One Confession Away] Reapers are smashing the sides of the ship, trying to get in.

CHALICE
What can we do?

DOCTOR
There's nothing you can do. You brought this on yourself. You messed with the fabric of time! Did you not think there would be consequences?

CHALICE
Doctor!

DOCTOR
Well, then. Here you are, asking for my help yet again. That's who I am. I'm not a god. I'm not someone who tries to fight monsters. I help however I can. Sometimes it goes wrong, and people die, but I carry that with me. That's who I am. You might have got that wrong, but I'm going to show you what being the Doctor really means.

The Doctor discards the gun, chucking it to the side. He offers a hand to Chalice, and he takes it. The pair stare out at the Reapers.

CHALICE
I take it you have a plan then?

DOCTOR
Always.

CHALICE
What do we do?

DOCTOR
Think back. Where was the first place you changed time? From your point of view?

CHALICE ...The Battle of Hastings!

He runs back to the TARDIS. He looks out.

DOCTOR
I'm sorry. This is the only way I can stop it. Don't be scared.

He closes the TARDIS door and dematerialises. Chalice realises the Doctor's plan.

CHALICE
No. Oh, no!

He starts to run out of the door.

42 EXT. HASTINGS 1066 - DAY
People are talking in the village centre. Behind them is Battle Abbey. Suddenly it goes dark. They look up and see a giant spaceship. Some people scream, most looked shocked. It hovers over the village.

43 INT. HASTINGS SPACESHIP - DAY
Chalice from the past is laughing maniacally, holding up a microphone, ready to speak. Suddenly, he hears a whooshing sound. He turns around. The TARDIS doors are wide open, and a bright light shines from inside. The Doctor's silhouette is seen. He steps out.

DOCTOR
Chalice. I'm from the future. I'm sorry, you've got to stop this now.

EARLY CHALICE
You think you can stop me?

DOCTOR
I have to. For your sake. I'm trying to save you.

EARLY CHALICE
I don't believe that!

The future Chalice teleports in with his vortex manipulator.

CHALICE
Don't listen to him! He's going to kill me!

DOCTOR
I'm changing your future. It's better than being attacked by Reapers.

CHALICE
I don't want to die.

DOCTOR
You've got a better chance at life!

EARLY CHALICE
Who are you to decide what's best for us?

DOCTOR
I can't decide anything for you. But this is what you turn into. A crazed lunatic who won't stop at anything.

EARLY CHALICE
No…

DOCTOR
Yes. This is how it is.

Clara teleports in, out of breath.

DOCTOR
Clara?

CLARA
Doctor!

They hug, before looking back at the old Chalice.

DOCTOR
Look at her. She's one of the innocent people you're going to murder by doing this. Call your attacks off, and come with me. Please.

CHALICE
I don't think so!

Chalice pulls out a gun and snatches Clara.

CHALICE
Backup. You always need a spare. Ignore her, and keep doing what you're doing!

The past Chalice stares at his future. [Track 19 ends]

EARLY CHALICE
Are you serious?

He looks disgusted. [Track 20: Break Free 0:00 - 1:35]

EARLY CHALICE
Am I really that paranoid that I need a backup gun? Am I that scared of you, Doctor?

DOCTOR
Yes.

EARLY CHALICE
Why? Death follows you, but you never kill.

DOCTOR
Not if I don't have to.

EARLY CHALICE
I don't have to kill now, do I?

DOCTOR
Not at all.

CHALICE
Yes!

EARLY CHALICE
No. I don't. I'm sorry.

CHALICE
NO!

Chalice keels over.

CLARA
What's happening to him?

DOCTOR
His personal history is changing. This is what you were doing to everyone on Earth.

CHALICE
To free... the Universe! I don't want to go…

DOCTOR
You can change. Everyone can change. And you are.

He pants.

CHALICE
How can you say that you're better than me… When you're doing exactly what I was? How can you say that's wrong?

DOCTOR
I'm not. I'm changing time to save you. You were changing time to kill me.

He fades away.

EARLY CHALICE
All of this… All of it… The End, the Contract… and you. It's all been…

DOCTOR
You helped me, Chalice. I had started to lose sight of where I was going. You helped me become the Doctor again. Don't discredit that.

EARLY CHALICE
Touche. What are you going to do with me now?

DOCTOR
What do you want to do?

EARLY CHALICE
Start afresh. Help people in the way I thought I was. Really.

DOCTOR
Then we can do that. But first, there's something we need to do.

He looks up at the Doctor. [Track 20 ends]

44 EXT. VOID
[Track 21: The Emperor's Wife 0:00 - 1:15] The Doctor, Clara and Chalice stare out into the Void from the TARDIS.

CLARA
It's not changed yet.

DOCTOR
It should be. You detonated the ship. Are you sure that you haven't changed any points in time yet?

CHALICE
Positive.

A laser blast hits a rock next to the TARDIS. The Judoon is storming towards them.

CLARA
It's him! He was the one who captured me. He murdered Usang Jurro and Rafael.

CHALICE
That must be it! He's got a device that can manipulate this void!

Chalice darts out of the box towards the Judoon.

DOCTOR
Chalice, what are you doing?!

CHALICE
Helping people!

Chalice stands by the Judoon's side.

CHALICE
Give me your manipulator.

KOL-DON-TON
No!

CHALICE
I am your Contractor, you follow my rules!

DOCTOR
Chalice! Stop!

He passes Chalice the device he used to stop the bell ringing. His grin extends as much as it can, as it presses the button.

45 INT. TARDIS
The Doctor slams the doors shut, and the TARDIS goes haywire. It whistles, before-

CUT TO BLACK:

46 EXT. TRAFALGAR SQUARE - DAY
A black taxi pulls up, and a young woman climbs out, passing a tenner to the cab driver and wandering off into the middle of the crowd. She is oblivious to her surroundings, her gaze fixed upon a makeshift device made from an old mobile phone, some coins and other scraps - with an antenna spinning round.

OSGOOD
Kate? I'm at the rendezvous, but I'm not detecting any temporal signals-

Right in front of her, the TARDIS appears in a flash- a lot of the other locals are thrown by it, too. Clara pokes her head out.

CLARA
It worked! It actually worked!

OSGOOD
Doctor?

DOCTOR
Osgood!

OSGOOD
What are you doing here?

DOCTOR
Oh, nothing important. Clara, weren't we talking about coffee?

CLARA
Were we?

DOCTOR
I want one. Let's go.

CLARA
Oh, okay.

The Doctor pulls Clara down the road.

CLARA
I think you and caffeine's a bad mix, but let's give it a shot.

Osgood is confused, not realising Kate's still blabbering away on the phone for a few seconds, then puts it back to her ear.

OSGOOD
Kate? Nothing to worry about.

She doesn't know what to do with herself. [Track 21 ends]

47 EXT. LONDON - DAY
[Track 22: The Doctor Forever (abridged version) 0:28 - 2:15] Cars beep noisily, and life has returned to normal; crying babies, arguments, dates, meetings of business and friendship, all across the city.

48 INT. CAFE - DAY
Clara sips at an earl grey tea, whilst the Doctor studies a coffee, solemnly.

CLARA
What's on your mind?

DOCTOR
Chalice.

CLARA
What happened to him?

DOCTOR
Because they weren't part of the initial timeline where all of Earth convulsed together, they were dispersed across it. He's gone.

CLARA
I'm sorry. But he saved Earth.

DOCTOR
Just once, I thought I'd met someone who could change. Who had the chance to continue the legacy I left. To help and protect.

CLARA
You do that with all of us, all the time. UNIT, all your friends...

DOCTOR
I just wonder, can evil change for good?

CLARA
For a second, he did. And so did Rafael. They saved me. They died saving me. That's honourable. And the only reason they saved me was because you taught me to show them the right thing. If it wasn't for you, I would be dead. Chalice did change. For good. He died a good man.

The Doctor ponders on this, then looks down at his coffee, the patterns swirling around.

DOCTOR
It's fascinating the way they make this. The fine, exquisite detail, just for a drink. The smallest thing is made to improve someone's day. Now that's goodness.

He drinks it, then frowns.

DOCTOR
Not sure about the taste though. Maybe that's why it looks nice. A disguise. A very lovely disguise at that.

Clara laughs.

DOCTOR
I appreciate the effort though. What a human thing, effort.

CLARA
So where do you want to go next?

DOCTOR
I don't know. So much to see, to explore. The open sky. Have I ever taken you to Uzbekistan?

CLARA
Don't think so.

DOCTOR
There's a beautiful desert called the Kyzylkum Desert, almost 300,000 km wide, as far as the eye can see. In this day and age, the landscape's been unchanged for almost 2000 years!

Pan out of the window as the pair continue to talk and out towards the London landscape. [Track 22 ends]
