A/N: So I'm doing a major dump of stories. Bear with me.
OOOOOOOOOOO
David dodged a pillow thrown at him as soon as he opened the door to Calli's house. He lifted an eyebrow at her and she glared at him. This couldn't be good if she was already upset and he'd just entered the house.
He jerked his thumb over his shoulder. "I'm not getting that."
"Good! Leave it out there!" Calli snapped. "And why don't you throw yourself out after it? Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" She took a harsh breath. "Actually, let it hit you! I don't fucking care!"
David took a small breath. "It's not shark week again."
"Duh!"
"So why are you such a bitch right now?"
Calli rolled her eyes. "I don't have to explain myself to you. Just go. Get out of my house. And leave me alone for good. I don't want to see you again."
David's heart cracked. "What?"
"You heard me," Calli hissed, pushing at him. "Go away. I never want to see you again." She pushed harder. "Go."
David remained unmoved. He reached down and grabbed her by the wrists, holding her at a distance. Her eyes were clouded with emotion and he couldn't get a read on her storm of emotions. She was a little bit of everything that he wanted to keep her from feeling. And it was all directed at him.
"Calli," he began.
"No! No talking! You cannot sweet talk your way out of this! Go! And don't come back!" She looked into his eyes. "None of you come back!"
Okay, now that's not fair, Davie!
She has to let us come see her!
We're family!
David's eyes narrowed and he backed Calli into her house. "Is this because of your blood relatives? Are they causing trouble? Because if they are, I can go there and make them leave you alone for good." His eyes blazed. "And I mean, for good."
The Goth froze. She stared at David for a moment as if seeing him for the first time. Then the anger filled her eyes and she stomped her foot.
"No! They have nothing to do with this! You are NOT killing them. You're not even going to visit them or call them or text them or whatever. This is my problem."
"What the hell is your problem then?"
"You." Calli pulled on her arms, trying to get free of his grip. "You're my problem."
"How?"
Calli bit her bottom lip, one of her nervous habits. David backed her farther into the house and into the living room. Calli kicked him and tried to pull again. David refused to let go of her. He really didn't care if she kicked him. It wasn't like it hurt. Humans couldn't really do anything to hurt him. At least, not this particular human.
"Let go of me!" Calli exclaimed, jerking on her arms.
"Sit," David ordered, backing her towards the couch.
"No!"
"I gave you a chance," David said, looking at her. "Now we play my way." He pushed her onto the couch and straddled her, holding her hands over her head.
"David! You asshole!" Calli spat, hazel eyes burning.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, princess. Call me what you want. Doesn't mean a thing because I know you don't mean it. You're just…acting crazy."
Calli hissed at him and tried to buck him off. David tightened his thighs around her hips and looked down at her. He transferred one of her hands into the grasp of his right hand. With gentle fingers, he caressed her face and she tried to bite him. David gripped her chin between his thumb and forefinger.
"What's wrong, Calli?" he asked, looking at her with softer eyes than he felt like giving her. "Why are you acting like this?"
Calli's bottom lip trembled and she looked away from him. She took a shuddering breath and tensed up under him even more than she already was. David knew she was fighting with herself. Maybe she didn't even have a reason to be angry at him and the Boys. Maybe she was just having a bad day and taking it out on him.
"I can't do this anymore…" Calli ground out, staring at the back of the couch. "I can't pretend that it's going great…I've lost my job. I've lost my friends. I don't have money to do anything. I can't continue hanging out with you Boys because even though you're great to me…you're also unchanging…you don't age. I do. I'm going to be older than you physically in the coming year, David. That's not fair…I don't want to keep waiting for the "right time" to change me. I want to be able to go on with my life…"
"Calli," David whispered, running his thumb over her bottom lip. "You know we're going to do it soon, right?"
"Ugh. You've been saying that for literal years." Calli banged her head against the cushion. "Even before I changed my name to Calli…you keep saying that you'll change me soon and you never do. I don't even think you know the meaning of soon."
David shifted over her. I know what it means. It's just…There are complications."
"Complications?" Calli laughed. "Let me guess. Because I'm crazy and on several medications." She gave him a wry smile. "That's not something I can control, honey. Thank genetics. Blame them for all I care."
David tightened his hold on her wrists and loomed over her. He let his inner demon show and saw the brief flicker of fear on Calli's face. He showed her his sharp canines in a sinister grin.
"Is this what you want to become so quickly, princess?" he demanded, getting right in her face and not missing how she cringed. "This every single night that you must feed. This forever, unless a goddamn vampire hunter kills you. Is this what you want before you have a chance to live?"
Calli's breath was harsh again. She didn't make a sound besides that. And that was okay with David.
As long as she's not yelling at me anymore…
David let his human features slide back into place. He let out a small breath and touched her face again. She didn't jerk away or try to bite him this time. Her breath slowly evened out and she looked up at him with a frown.
"I don't like this, David," she whispered.
"I know."
"I want to be safe with you."
He chuckled. "Fat chance at that. We live on the wild side, princess. Remember that?"
Calli sighed. "You're right."
David moved off her and pulled her into a seated position. She rubbed her wrists when he released them and sighed again. The girl sagged back against the couch cushions and looked at him. David leaned against the couch's back and smirked at her.
"Well, are you mad at me anymore?" he asked.
Calli shook her head and waved her hand. "Get me an iced coffee from the fridge and you're forgiven."
David rolled his eyes and climbed off the couch, heading for the kitchen. He opened the fridge and examined the contents. He made a mental note to send some groceries to her because no one could live off of coffee and eggs. As he reached into the fridge to retrieve her drink, Calli's arms wrapped around him from behind.
"Calli?" he asked, closing the door.
"Thank you for putting up with my nonsense. I know it can't be easy on you or the Boys. Just…thank you, David," Calli mumbled against his back. "I'm sorry. Deeply and truly sorry. Forgive me?"
David smoothed a hand over hers. "Always, princess. Always."
