Chapter 20: Home

*Tina's POV* *9:00am*

I can feel my heart pumping like a motor as I push myself to chase after these three assholes. I'm glad that I still bike around, or this would be a hell of a lot harder.

They're around ten feet ahead of me, and nowhere near stopping soon.

"Give it up, Ruth," I shout out to her, "I'm getting closer…!"

I sprint so that I can almost grab the back of Ruth's shirt, but my PokéGear starts ringing, startling me out of my concentration. Not realizing a large root is in front of me, I trip over it, and fall harshly on my face.

"Fuck," I screech in pain, "How the fuck are you so fast, Ruth?"

"I was the wife of a Goldenrod Police Detective, and at one point, the Head Prosecutor of the Goldenrod Judicial Court in Johto. I've always had to be fit, and on my toes to survive my life. You'd be surprised how many criminals go after the detectives and prosecutors that send them to prison," Ruth explains coldly to me before turning to a cheering Monica.

"Ha! I knew you could never catch us, Freak! Tell Calypso that she's never getting Togepi back! Hahahaha," Monica bursts out in victory, Ruth and Donald cheering her on. The Trio then sprint off farther into the woods, and out of my sight.

I get up and brush all of the dirt off my clothes. I'm not bleeding from anywhere, and I have no obvious injuries, though my ankle is feeling a bit weak. I'll have to check on that later.

My PokéGear rings again, and I answer it growling,

"Yes?"

I recognize it as Paul, my associate director of the Dance Theater.

"Platinum, you have to come back quick! There's a Team Rocket member here up on stage, yelling at Miki! You have to get here as soon as possible!"

"Great, another thing to worry about. I know none of you guys besides Miki have Pokémon, and she's probably terrified. I'll be there as fast as I can."

I hang up the phone, and look in the distance towards where the Trio escaped off to. No sign of anything living over there right now. They're probably way too far gone to catch them now.

I start jogging in the opposite direction, heading towards Ecruteak quickly. I have to make sure Miki and the Dance Theater are going to be okay...

*Calypso's POV* *9:15am*

I look upon my hometown fondly, Dusk floating by my side. The morning light of the sunrise hits the burgundy roofs of the Ecruteak buildings, illuminating the warm city in a reddish light. I'd almost forgotten how stunning it is.

"It's been thirteen years since the last time I was here, Dusk. It's still the same, but oh so different, you know what I mean?"

Dusk nods silently, knowing no words are needed to explain the way I'm feeling.

"Well, I guess we should go in, then, huh? Can't keep standing here if I want to get anything else done today," I motion to Dusk, walking up to the city gates, her following behind.

We immediately head to the Pokémon Center, so I can heal up the Team before we head to our next destination: The Dance Theater.

I stand directly in front of the doors of the Dance Theater, memories of my mother dancing and battling here filling my mind. Her and her Leafeon, Alfalfa, were inseparable. I wonder what happened to Alfalfa after Mom died? I'm betting that either Tina or one of the other Kimono Girls took her in after Akira's death.

Taking in a deep breath, I push open the heavy doors, where I come upon a scene that makes me very pissed off. A lone Team Rocket Grunt is onstage harassing one of my mom's coworkers that I recognize as Miki. He's complaining that her dance routine is too conservative, wanting her to dance in all kinds of crazy ways.

A group of people are watching the scene unfold nervously, all of them being powerless to stop him, as none of them are Trainers.

An older man glances in my direction, noticing Dusk floating on my shoulder.

"You, there, girl! You look like a competent Trainer! Do us a favor, and run this Rocket hooligan off with a battle! The director, Platinum, would normally defend the Theater, but she's off on some other business. Would you be willing to help us and poor Miki?"

"I'm a friend of Platinum, and it would be an honor to defend the Dance Theater in her place. I'll take care of this scum," I state confidently, my hatred of Team Rocket intensifying.

"Thank you, Miss…," the older man asks.

"The name's Calypso, and I refuse to let Team Rocket disrespect the Kimono Girls or the Dance Theater," I reply as I walk past him and towards the stage.

As I get closer to them, I can hear what the Grunt's saying to her clearly,

"Hey, stop dancing such a serious dance! Show me something like a hula dance!"

Miki steps back in anxiety and fear. "You mustn't push such a request on me," she responds nervously.

The Rocket Grunt bristles with anger, bellowing at Miki, "Huh? Are you telling me you don't respect what the customer wants?"

Miki steps back further, the Grunt's demeanor becoming too aggressive for her to handle. Her silence prompts him to say,

"Well, then I'll show you how to dance. I'll show you a great one. Wahahaha!"

All of a sudden, he starts violently spinning himself around in an attempt at a dance. Miki looks terrified, too terrified to do anything about him.

I walk up on the stage, and when I get close enough to engage him, I notice the smell of alcohol on his breath. No surprises there. Alcohol is usually an accomplice to stupidity. He stops spinning when he sees that I've walked up to him.

"Huh, who are you," he slurs, "You're not involved in this! You dare get in my way," he threatens, pulling a single Poké Ball from his belt.

"Oh, I dare all right. I'm way more involved in this than you'll ever know. Now, on behalf of Platinum and the Kimono Girls of the Ecruteak Dance Theater, I'm going to kick your drunken ass all the way back to Kanto," I brazenly retort.

The Grunt gets angry, and sends out his only Pokémon, a Level 12 Koffing. How pathetic.

"Dusk, you can take care of this! Use Psywave," I call out.

"Koffing, use your Smog attack!"

Dusk unleashes her wave of psychic energy straight for the Koffing, while the Koffing produces a poisonous smog that slowly floats over to Dusk.

The Psywave hits Koffing for 3/4ths of his HP in damage due to it being a super effective attack. Dusk is more fortunate, however, only losing a speck of HP, while also avoiding poisoning.

The Grunt's jaw drops. "Who really are you, kid? You're not just some random newbie trainer! Who are you?!"

I eye him sharply, my fierce expression causing him to squirm in fear. "I am Calypso Aspen Primrose, daughter of the late Kimono Girl Akira Primrose, and I refuse to let you disrespect everything she ever worked towards! Dusk, finish him with your Astonish attack!"

I can hear whispers in the crowd below as Dusk rushes in for the final hit. The Grunt desperately commands his Koffing to use Smokescreen, but Dusk is too quick. She hits him with her Astonish, getting a critical hit, and knocking him out.

The Grunt gazes puzzledly at his fallen Pokémon, and then back to me. "Looks like I lost…"

I roll my eyes. "No shit! Now get the fuck outta here," I yell at him while recalling Dusk for rest.

The Grunt's anxiety heightens as he starts to realize the situation that he's in.

"Oh, no, you make me look like a villain," he exclaims.

"How can you not see that you are the villain here," I point out the obvious to him, "You came in here drunk, and harassed Miki, who is a Kimono Girl and a large part of Ecruteak culture. You terrified her beyond the point where she was able to defend herself. You should be ashamed of yourself, you Team Rocket motherfucker!"

"Aww, whatever! I have an important mission. Oops! If they find out I was wasting time here, they'll make me start over as the lowest Team Rocket Grunt! I better leave now," The Grunt realizes as he hightails it out of the Dance Theater.

A visibly shaken Miki steps up to me. She studies me for a moment before saying,

"You must be Calypso, correct? The daughter of Akira Primrose? That was indeed excellent. Kind and strong… Good at raising Pokémon as well… You certainly are Akira's daughter, and I see what that person saw in you…"

"Huh," I blink at her last statement.

When she's realized what she's said, she replies quickly, "Ohoho! That was just me talking to myself. Never mind."

Miki then walks closer, putting her hand on my shoulder. "Calypso, let me give you some advice as a Kimono Girl. For Kimono Girls like me, dancing is everything. I have never gone a day without a dance practice. Pokémon are the same. They grow with you a little bit each day."

"Thanks, Miki. It's been so long since I've seen all of you guys. I've missed you all so much. I've also missed seeing all of you dance. I'll have to come back here and watch you guys sometime," I reminiscence fondly.

"Calypso, you should come dance with us! You have the Kimono Girl blood in you, I'm sure you'd be a great dancer," Miki exclaims.

"Hate to break it to you, Miki, but if I even tried to move gracefully like you, I'd trip and fall on my face. I wasn't born with natural grace like my mom. Besides, I'm not quite sure I'd enjoy wearing a Kimono…," I reply awkwardly.

"Don't be shy! I can see it! You have the same beauty and power that Akira possessed as well. Besides, practice makes perfect. You'll never know until you try," Miki expresses.

About five minutes after the Grunt leaves, a disheveled dirt-covered Tina rushes in.

"Miki! Paul! Are you guys all right," Tina asks frantically.

"We're fine, Platinum," the older man now known as Paul tells her, "Akira's daughter came and saved the day!"

Paul glances up at the stage to look at me brightly. When Tina realizes that I've come to the Dance Theater's rescue, she beams brilliantly at me.

"Of course she did," Tina responds, "I wouldn't expect anything less from Calypso. She is Akira and Dan's daughter, after all."

Miki and I walk down from the stage to greet Tina and Paul, while I can still hear the crowd whispering mysteriously.

"Tina," I approach her warmly, "How'd it go with the Terrible Trio?"

"Not so well," Tina mutters disappointedly, "I lost them after I tripped and wrecked on a tree branch trying to answer your call, Paul."

Paul blushes, exclaiming, "I'm sorry, I was unaware of the situation."

Tina looks back over to him. "Paul, you're fine. I know you were worried about the Theater, and that comes before anything else. You know I'd drop everything to protect this place. It's a priceless piece of Ecruteak's culture."

Tina turns back to me, "Calypso, you showed a level of bravery that I've only seen among top trainers in the region. I want you to take this HM03, Surf. It belonged to your mom, and I've already had my full use of it. I know she would've wanted you to have it," Tina says as she hands the Hidden Machine to me.

"Thanks, Tina," I say, feeling tears filling my eyes.

Suddenly, the crowd fills in around Tina, Paul, and I, all chanting together, "Akira's daughter has been returned to us!"

I start to feel overwhelmed due to the large amount of people, so Tina beckons them to back off away from me, "Come on, guys, I'm sure Calypso is happy to be home, but she needs some time to re-adjust. Come on, kiddo, I'll take you home."

Tina leads me out of the Dance Theater, all of the people chanting happily after us as we leave.

*Third Person POV* *9:30am*

"We did it, we outran them! I can't believe we did it! Yeah, we're awesome," Monica shouts from the woods behind Route 39. Still holding Togepi firmly in her arms, she tickles Topegi's shell, causing him to squeal shrilly in happiness.

Feeling a new type of happiness since acquiring Togepi, Monica beams at Donald and Ruth delightedly. "Thank you guys so much for getting me Togepi! He's just the type of Pokémon I've been wanting since Jessica was stolen from me. And the best part is that we stole him from Calypso!"

"Yeah, at least we got something accomplished," Donald comments.

"I agree, for a first move, I consider this plan a success. Well done, kids," Ruth praises them.

"Thanks, Ruth, we couldn't have done it without you. Or you, Donald. You guys are seriously my best friends, besides Whitney.

All the rest of the girls in the Gym are seriously fake as hell. They act all nice, but they all know that they're the ones who created the rumor that I got into the Goldenrod Gym by bribing both the Gym Guide and Whitney. I got in on pure talent and battle skill alone! They're not my real friends," Monica ends nonchalantly.

Both Donald's and Ruth's mouths go agape at Monica's statement, her stories never failing to shock them.

"I'm glad you found new friends, then," Donald replies simply, believing that no more words are necessary than that.

"Come on, kids," Ruth shouts from ahead of them, "I can see the outline of Olivine City on the horizon. If we can make it there in time, we can take the ferry to Cianwood City. We'll be safe there."

The Terrible Trio increases their speed, sprinting through the trees to make it in time to board the ferry. With a minute to spare, Monica pays all of their tickets, and they sail to Cianwood City, the fresh wind of the sea splashing cooly on their faces.

*Calypso POV* *9:45am*

As Tina's leading me down the streets of Ecruteak, I can't help but wonder aloud, "You said you were taking me home, but where are you really taking me, Tina?"

Tina gazes back, puzzled. "I meant exactly what I said. You're going home."

I finally process exactly what Tina's saying as we walk up to a very familiar building.

"It's still here," I whisper breathlessly, scanning over the burgundy one story house in front of me.

"Of course it's still here. You really think I'd let your house be put up for auction or sold? No, I promised your parents that I'd take care of you if anything ever happened to them. That includes protecting and preserving the things that they left for you.

I knew when Ruth took you that you eventually would be tired of being controlled, and would break free, and return to your home. I kept everything the same since you were taken, hoping I could reverse the Court's decision. I've been trying to appeal for all 13 years, but they've never once heard me out. Now that we have proof that Ruth is abusive, getting guardianship over you should be a piece of cake," Tina explains, while leading me up the stairs to the front door of the house.

"Go ahead, this house is technically yours," Tina tells me as she gestures to the doorknob, "The title is in my name right now, but the moment you turn 18, the title automatically transfers to your name, courtesy of your parents."

"That's interesting. They already had plans in place when I was a kid. It's almost like they knew what was going to happen to them," I speculate.

Tina glances at me sharply, "Don't think I haven't thought about that. I have many conspiracy theories about what really happened to Akira and Dan. But I'd rather not say until we're inside. The more privacy, the better."

I open the door, and as I step in, a familiar scent of jasmine fills the air.

"Jasmine incense? Just like Mom used to burn," I question Tina.

"Of course. Just because they're gone physically doesn't mean they're actually gone forever. When we do things to relive their memories, they live with us more than we realize," Tina replies, leading me from the front hall to the living room.

The place still looks the same, but with Tina living here, it feels inviting because it's been lived in. It hasn't been abandoned or neglected.

"I tried to keep it the way your mom would've wanted it. She was a clean freak, and she had a knack for style. I've kept everything they've left here, because it's not my stuff to decide what to do with. If you ever want to change the place up, I'm all for it. It'll be all yours soon enough," Tina finishes.

"Thanks, Tina," I say as I set my bag on the grey cloth couch in the living room.

Tina strolls into what I recognize as the kitchen. Calling me from there, she hollers,

"Hey, you must be starving from all that battling you did earlier. Want me to whip something up for us for brunch?"

"Sure, why not," I reply pleasantly as I walk into the kitchen.

"Are your Pokémon hungry? I feed all the Pokémon in the back yard because they tend to get a bit rowdy. If you want to let them out, I have bowls of food out there," Tina points to the sliding glass door in the back of the kitchen, leading to the backyard.

"Sure, they haven't eaten since this morning. I'll let them out," I respond, letting out all my Pokémon.

Tina's Pokémon are all already out in the backyard, and all of my Pokémon happily join them in eating and socializing.

"You have such amazing Pokémon, Calypso," Tina comments, "You can tell that they're raised with the utmost love and care. You have the same touch for Pokémon raising and training that Akira possessed," Tina praises me.

"I try my hardest, Tina. I'll be honest, Ruth tried to keep me away from Pokémon for so long that when I gained any sort of freedom, I gravitated towards them like a safety net. When PG brought me my first Pokémon, Spirit, the Murkrow, I was so excited because I had been longing for a Pokémon for so long. Spirit also knew how I felt growing up, always being forced to be around people that she hated. When we met, it was an instant connection. She gave me the strength to keep planning my escape, despite all my failed attempts in the past. She was, and still is, one of the things that keeps me going," I explain.

"I'm glad that you have such a strong connection with your Pokémon. Strong bonds like that are the type of stuff Pokémon Champions are made of. And, by the way, I noticed that you stopped calling Ruth 'Gran.' Finally stripped her of her worthless title," Tina inquires.

"Yes, she stopped being my grandmother a long time ago," I state harshly.

"Agreed," Tina says as she plates the food, and brings it to the table for us to eat.

"Traditional seafood ramen, just like Dad used to make," I eat the ramen happily.

"Yeah, I used to cook a lot with your parents when we were roommates before you were born. I've mastered quite a few of your parents' recipes in the time you've been gone. I moved out right before you were born so they'd have room for both your nursery and Akira's dance studio. Of course, they helped finance me so I could buy the house next door. After they died, I sold my house, and lived in yours, because I couldn't bear their house to be empty, and I really had no connection to my house. So I've lived here ever since."

I can't help but tear up happily at Tina's dedication to mine and my parent's lives.

"Thank you for taking care of everything for me, Tina. I don't think anyone else would've gone to the lengths that you did to preserve my life the way I wanted it. I couldn't ask for a better guardian," I express emotionally.

"I tried my best, Calypso, but I'll be honest, I don't think it was enough. I can never forgive myself for letting Ruth take you away like she did. It was never what your parents wanted for you. In fact, they did everything they could to keep you out of her clutches. I don't know if you know this, but your mom was never fond of Ruth. She tried everything in her power to stop Ruth from interfering with you and your parents' lives. She knew that Ruth wanted control over both Daniel and you. She put everything she could in place before her death to ensure Ruth had no claim to you. But despite all of that, Ruth still managed to come in and take over everything anyway. It makes me feel like I've failed as a guardian," Tina murmurs sadly, tears building up in her dark brown eyes.

"Tina, let's be real, here. I misspoke earlier. You're not just my guardian. You are one of my parents. When you moved in to help support my parents when they were pregnant with me, you stepped up and became a parent. You stayed and helped them through thick and thin, and you helped them raise me. You're just as much a parent as they are. I'm sorry that I haven't referred to you as such until now. And I want you to know that there was nothing else you could've done for me. Ruth set up every barrier she could find to prevent you from keeping me. Don't feel like a failure, you're the best pseudo-Mom I could ask for," I relay my true feelings to her.

"Oh, Calypso… I can't believe you're really here. Strong, and beautiful, like your mom, but adventurous and stubborn like your dad. I've been looking forward to this for 13 years. To finally have my daughter back home," Tina sobs in happiness.

"I'm glad to be back, Tina. Thank you for reminding me that I have a home."

*Third Person POV* *10:00am, Goldenrod City Courthouse*

A sharply dressed woman in her early fifties sits at her desk, eyeing a manilla folder that was just dropped upon it. Slowly opening the folder, the woman sees a familiar face in the case work file.

"Ruth, you dirty Growlithe, we knew you had more secrets that you let on," the woman comments as she reads through the case file.

"Oh, Joyce," a voice sounds from right outside her office, "Did you see the new case I placed on your desk? I figured that you would be itching to work on this. Be careful with this one, you know how volatile Ruth can get when she feels she's been threatened," Joyce's boss, Head Prosecutor Emma Fields advises her.

"Thank you, Head Prosecutor Fields. I will approach this case with the highest meticulousness that you've ever seen," she replies.

"Good, I'm glad to hear it. There's already a list of numbers of witnesses and Calypso's confidants that I think would be willing to talk about Ruth. I'd call them as a start. Get as much incriminating evidence as you can. I believe that you can handle this case, Joyce Hutchinson. So then, I'll leave you to it. I'm counting on you," Fields says as she leaves Joyce's office.

"Ruth…" Joyce whispers quietly, "You've made a fool out of me way too many times. Now it's my turn. I will be your downfall."

*Calypso's POV* *10:15am*

After talking with Tina for another half hour about general life, I start getting the urge to go challenge the Gym. When I relay this idea to Tina, she replies,

"Well, you could, but I'm pretty sure I heard that Morty was out with his friend, Eusine, investigating the Burned Tower. You probably would have to go see him there if you want to challenge him. Besides, a lot of Trainers train there, making it a perfect place to grind before you take on Morty!"

"Duly noted," I say, "my Team and I will head there now," I finish as I grab my bag from the couch. All of my Pokémon except for Dusk go back into their Poké Balls. I figure that she wants to take some time to train and feed at the same time. After all, her and Spirit will be my forerunners in the Gym Battle, with Cyndi as my backup secret weapon.

"Calypso, wait! I'll walk with you there. There's something I want to show you on the way there," Tina walks up to me, opening the door.

"All right, let's go," I say as we walk down the street. With all the differently colored leaves falling to the ground, it brightens the city even more so. It creates a warmth in my heart that I haven't felt for a long time. Since the last time I was here, 13 years ago.

"So what did you want to show me," I ask as we walk further towards the Burned Tower.

"It's further up ahead by the Burned Tower," Tina replies, power walking ahead.

We get right up on the Burned Tower, when Tina abruptly turns to the fence on the left side of the Tower. I turn around to see her kneeling beside a large stone tablet with a large amount of flowers and lit candles in front of it. Coming closer, I tear up, realizing what I'm staring at.

"Nobody's ever forgotten them," Tina murmurs softly, "They were a beloved couple in the community. Everyone cherished them, and when you were born, they cherished you. Akira and Dan were a big part of Ecruteak, and when they died, a part of Ecruteak died with them. Their senseless loss has haunted Ecruteak for 13 years. I hope they're at peace."

I shake my head, "I don't think they are, Tina. They're not at peace, because they didn't commit suicide. I think they were murdered."

Tina turns to me roughly, "You and me both. I've been looking into the circumstances of their deaths for 13 years, and I've compiled a load of suspicious happenings and sightings right around the time before their deaths-"

I interrupt her, "I have dreams… Dreams where I'm at the river where they drowned, and I see a Pokémon at the other end, eerily staring at me. I think it was a Pokémon called Hypno."

"Hypno," Tina inquires, "I'll look into that. One of my strongest theories was a Pokémon attack, and a Hypno hypnotizing them into drowning themselves makes perfect sense. I've got to look into this! I'll see you later, Calypso," Tina shouts as she sprints back to the house.

Glancing back over to the Memorial Stone, I smile as I feel warmth circulating around me, like a soft, warm caress of the wind.

"I know you two are still with me, Mom and Dad. But I want you to be at peace. I promise to help Tina uncover what actually happened on the night of your deaths. You deserve more than what you were given in life. You should've been able to see me in life, now, as a Pokémon Trainer, following in your footsteps. But instead, you're angels in the ground. None of this is fair, and I will find the truth, I promise you! But, for now, join me on the next adventure," I whisper aloud, acknowledging the Stone and the winds around me.

Dusk pops out of her Poké Ball, startling me out of my trance. "You miss them a lot, don't you," Dusk asks morosely out of the blue.

"Oh, so much, Dusk," I reply, "Every minute of every day. But I'm living with them every day I wake up to be your Trainer. By following in their footsteps, I bring them with me everywhere I go. So, I say, let's go! Our next adventure," I point to the Burned Tower, "is in there."

"All right, onward into the Burned Tower," Dusk exclaims, flying quickly towards the entrance, while I follow behind her.

*Tina's POV* *10:30am*

I sprint back to the house in a hurry to go over all the notes I have regarding Akira and Dan's deaths. A Hypno luring them to their deaths?! It makes perfect sense, why hadn't I thought of it before?

Opening the door to the house, I run into the office, ripping the place apart trying to find my binder of notes. As I'm searching, I hear the sound of my PokéGear going off on my arm. I look to see an unfamiliar number calling me. Desperately wanting to continue my search, I ignore the call, finally finding my binder behind the desk for some odd reason. About to open it, I'm interrupted again by the ringing. It's the same number. These fuckers are persistent.

Losing my cool instantly, I answer the phone with, "What, what do you want?! Can't you hear that I'm busy?!"

The voice on the other hand pauses for a moment at my outburst. Regaining my composure, I apologize saying,

"Sorry, I just learned some sensitive information, and I took it out on you. I'm Christine, "Tina" Platinum, Executive Director of the Ecruteak Dance Theater. May I ask who I'm speaking to?"

"Apology accepted, Tina. My name is Joyce Hutchinson, and I am one of the top Prosecutors in the Goldenrod Judicial System of Johto. I am contacting you regarding the Child Abuse charges that are being brought against Ruth Marken. I am the prosecutor who was chosen to take the case, and I would like to get some information from you, if you'd have time," the firm voice of Joyce Hutchinson proposes through the phone.

I drop the binder out of my hands, knowing this is very important, even more important than what I was doing before. If I can help put that hag in prison, then I'm definitely doing it. She deserves it after everything she put Calypso and our family through.

"Sure, I have plenty of time to talk to you. What questions did you have in mind," I ask Joyce.

"Well, let's get some basic information regarding your relationship with the victim, Calypso, and Ruth, the perpetrator. It only says in the file that in Akira and Daniel's wills, you were appointed to be Calypso's guardian upon their deaths. It lists you as a family friend. What was your relationship with Calypso and her parents? And why would Akira and Daniel put you as Calypso's preferred guardian when Ruth was related to Daniel by blood," Joyce proposes all these questions that I'm excited to answer.

"I'll tell you everything you need to know," I reply smoothly, telling her all the details.

*Calypso's POV* *Burned Tower, 10:20am*

My mom used to tell me stories about both the Bell Tower, and the Burned Tower, which used to be called the Brass Tower before it burnt down. Apparently, both the Bell Tower and the Brass Tower were home to Legendary Pokémon. When the Brass Tower burnt down 150 years ago, three Pokémon perished in the fires, while the Legendary Pokémon that nested there flew off to the Whirl Islands. The Legendary Pokémon of Bell Tower flew off to find a pure-hearted Trainer, before returning to give new life to the three Pokémon in the form of Legendary Beasts. That's the legend, anyway.

Dusk and I slowly open the door to the Burned Tower, the eerie creaking of the door alerting everyone inside of our presence. We make our way inside, where I immediately notice several things.

There's a huge open space burnt into the wooden floor, allowing us to see the basement. Upon looking down, Dusk and I see what appear to be three Legendary Pokémon on the ground below. There's also a huge burnt opening in the ceiling, the fire having burnt the upper floors.

"Wow, I can't believe I'm seeing the Legendary Pokémon with my very own eyes! This is so exciting," Dusk squeals from my left shoulder.

"I know, right," I exclaim back to her, while trying to get a good look at the beasties from above.

Dusk looks over to my right, saying, "Hey, look over there! I see people!"

Turning directly to my right, I spot two men who look to be in their early twenties investigating the southeast corner, nearing the stairs to the basement. One has blonde shaggy hair, and he's dressed casually in dark purple with a headband. The other has slicked back light brown hair, and is wearing a ridiculous purple suit with a red bowtie. Both of them seem familiar, but I'm not quite sure how…

The guy in the suit spots me, and comes rushing over to greet me.

"My name is Eusine," he extends his hand to shake mine, "I'm on the trail of a Pokémon named Suicune. And you are…?"

I shake his hand firmly, replying, "The name's Calypso."

He continues talking, "Glad to meet you. I heard rumors that Suicune is here, so I came to take a look. Take a look at the basement through the hole in the floor. There, Suicune is down there," Eusine finishes, pointing at the blue beast on the right of the other two.

"Yeah, that's what I was staring at when I came in. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, right," I say as I point them out correctly, "Why don't you just go down there and say 'Hello,'" I ask while pointing to the staircase leading to the basement ahead.

"I could go downstairs but I know it would run away in no time. I know. I've tried it many times…"

Eusine looks away dejectedly, while his cuter blonde friend steps up, introducing himself,

"My name is Morty. I am Ecruteak's Gym Leader."

I accept his offer to shake my hand, his firm hand warming my clammy palm. I can't help but blush at how cute he is. Feeling my face redden, I continue on nervously,

"Hey, I've been looking for you! I'm Calypso, and I've been training so I can challenge your Gym. What brought you guys here?"

"Calypso? That name is very familiar… Anyway, because my old friend Eusine is here on the trail of Suicune, I decided to investigate the Burned Tower."

He then proceeds to explain the Ecruteak legend to me again, and despite the fact I've heard it a million times, his soothing voice makes it more than bearable to hear again. I can't help but smile a little, but he's too busy talking to notice...

*Third Person POV* * Olivine City Ferry; 10:30am*

"How much longer until we get there, Ruth," Monica questions her as she shields Togepi's face from the mist surrounding the speeding seacraft.

"Eh, probably about ten minutes or so, give or take a minute," Ruth states to her newfound companions.

"Ruth, are you sure you're serious about moving me in with you," Donald asks for the third time in the last hour, "Are you sure that I'm not burdening you?"

"Donald, for the last time, I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't want you to. I'll admit, the house started feeling really lonely after Calypso ran away. I'm already pretty lonely because my husband died sixteen years ago, and my son and daughter in law died thirteen years ago. Calypso was all I had left, and even she abandoned me. My own granddaughter," Ruth sniffles as a few tears leave her eyes, "It just proves that your blood isn't always necessarily your family."

"Humph, I learned that hard lesson this morning," Donald grumbles before gazing up to beam at Ruth and Monica, "I guess you guys are my family now, if you're willing to accept that…"

Monica grabs Donald from where he's sitting to embrace him in a one-handed side hug, replying, "Okay, you're my new little brother! And if anybody but Ruth or I messes with you, I'm going to kill them!"

"Likewise," says Donald, going in for a fist bump with Monica, who returns it enthusiastically, while chanting, "Dweeb," fondly.

"Oh, my two really weird new grandchildren," Ruth states aloud, causing the two to stare at her. Opening her arms up, she beckons them over to her, "Come here!"

Donald and Monica envelop Ruth in a group hug lasting for a minute or two.

"Thanks, Grandma," Donald slips, going red when he realizes Ruth heard what he said.

Ruth smiles, responding passionately, "I prefer Gran."

*Third Person POV* *Burned Tower*

Silver can't help but steam a little seeing that older guy, Morty, smooth talking Calypso. He can't really explain why it bothers him so much. Why should he care who talks to her? It's not like he cares…

Grrrr… maybe he cares, a little too much. He snarls and grinds his teeth when he sees Calypso's blushing from something that Morty's said. He can't hear what they're saying, and he doesn't want to get any closer, or he might blow his cover. His fists tighten in frustration.

This was supposed to be his chance to step up, and crush Calypso's dream of becoming a Pokémon Master! He'd been planning this since hearing complaints of quite a few Trainers on Route 37 of a girl with brown shaggy hair who creamed them in battle earlier in the morning.

Now that he's here, he can't stop thinking of just her, and it's driving him crazy. His focus for his mission and journey is distracted from this one girl! No girl has ever done anything like this to him before. What is it about her that makes his heart beat so irregularly?

He supposes that they both have similar interests and back stories. Dead parents (or at least, dead to him), a hatred of authority, running away, Pokémon theft, and a staunch love for Pokémon battles.

His need to stay hidden is steadily being overruled by his want to battle Calypso. Teetering between revealing himself and staying hidden, he opts for the latter when he sees Calypso finish talking to Morty.

"It's my move now," Silver prepares himself for what he knows is going to be a tough battle.

*Calypso's POV* *Burned Tower*

I haven't been paying attention to the last third of Morty's speech because I noticed something bright red move out of the corner of my eye. Bright red… Silver?! What or who else could be that bright red?

I'm trying to appear as if I'm still paying attention to Morty while focusing my left eye towards the stairs to the basement, where I saw that flash of red before. Looking over, I see a faint silhouette of a person standing just past the basement stairs. I know it's definitely Silver when I see the person has long red hair.

Silver turns back to look at me, but quickly turns around again when he sees that I've noticed him. Then, I hear this odd low growling that I suspect is coming from him. What the fuck? Why would Silver be growling?

Morty finally finishes his speech with, "As the Gym Leader of Ecruteak, I must have a proper understanding of it."

I snap out of my trance when I realize Morty's stopped talking. He's staring at me with some kind of realisation behind his eyes. Why are all the guys around me acting weirdly?

"Wait a minute, I recognize you! You're the little girl that my mom always had me babysit with when I was ten to twelve. Calypso, right," Morty asks me. That's when I realize why he seems so familiar.

"Yeah," I exclaim, "Your mom has long blonde hair, and purple eyes like us, right? She was another friend of my mom's."

Morty's eyes brighten when I reference his mom. "Wasn't your mother that poor Kimono Girl who died 13 years ago? That was quite the tragedy. I remember my mother coming home from work one day in tears, and I asked her what happened. She told me that two of her closest friends, your parents, died in a horrible accident. After that, no one ever saw you in Ecruteak again. I'm glad to see that you've returned back to your home

in Ecruteak."

"It's true, it's been 13 years since I've been back here. My evil grandmother basically kidnapped me to live with her in Cianwood City after my parents died. I finally broke free, and now I'm living my best life as a Pokémon Trainer.

That's actually why I'm here, now. I was looking for you so I could challenge your Gym, though I'll admit, I probably need to train a little bit more," I explain.

"Well, after Eusine is done staring at Suicune for a few hours, feel free to challenge the Gym. I'll be there," Morty replies.

"Will do," I respond, "I'm going to explore the rest of the Burned Tower to train. I'll see you later today, probably, after I grind a little bit more."

Morty and Eusine go to take a look at the hole the floor while I turn over to the starwell where I saw Silver earlier.

"Well, it's now or never," I say as Dusk and I step up to the plate.

*Third Person POV; Goldenrod Hotel* *11:00am*

"Brrriiiing," JP's PokéGear wakes up both JC and JP. Both women sit up abruptly, JP reaching for her PokéGear.

"Officer Jenny Paige of Violet City speaking…," JP yawns into the phone.

"Yes, Officer Jenny Paige? This is Joyce Hutchinson, a lead Prosecutor of the Goldenrod Judicial Court. I'm investigating the Calypso Primrose and Ruth Marken child abuse case. You're listed as an associate of Calypso Aspen Primrose, and you're also the first Officer who logged Calypso's first police report. Would you possibly be available to answer some questions?"

JP perks up when she realizes who's on the other end of the phone.

"Yes, I'm definitely available! I'll tell you whatever you need to know!"

"JP, who's on the phone," JC asks from the other side of the bed, holding the sheet up to hide her exposed chest.

"It's Joyce Hutchinson, a lead Prosecutor in the Goldenrod Judicial Court. She wants me to answer questions about Calypso's case," JP explains to JC.

"May I ask who else is with you," Joyce questions.

"Oh, sorry, Joyce. This is Nurse Joy Cameron of Route 32. How are you," JC asks into the phone.

"Oh! Nurse Joy Cameron! You're also on my list of people I need to call regarding the case. This makes things a lot easier… Although, may I ask what you are doing together outside of work?"

"Oh, we are friends outside of our professions. So what did you need to know," JP finishes.

"When did you first encounter Calypso?"

"Wait, is this a question for JP or me," JC cuts in.

"Wait, did you two meet her at different times? Please explain everything."

So JC and JP explain their relationships with Calypso, when they first met her, and what led to them helping her go from runaway criminal to runaway child abuse victim. Then, Joyce explains the information she's collected regarding the case, including the information she collected from Tina.

"Okay, okay, this is definitely the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you for your cooperation, ladies. I'll call you if I need any more information, or if I have any updates on the case," Joyce thanks them.

"Okay, thank you," JC and JP say before Joyce hangs up the phone.

*Calypso's POV; Burned Tower* *11:00am*

I slowly walk to where I saw Silver before. My footsteps are heavy against the wooden floor, so I know he hears me coming.

When I reach a foot away from the stairs, Silver suddenly turns around to face me. His facial expression is intense, like he's been pondering the meaning of life or something. The way he's looking at me makes me anime sweatdrop a little.

He walks up to me, blocking the starwell to the basement. He's still staring at me weirdly, so I wave my hand in front of his face, saying,

"Earth to Silver, is Silver home?"

He fully looks up, and his silver eyes are staring daggers into my soul. After another moment of silence, he mutters irritatedly, "...Oh it's you."

"Well, who did you think it was, Team Rocket," I comment dryly.

"Humph, you think you're funny. What's also funny is that you think you're going to catch the Legendary Pokémon to make yourself look strong. That is only a dream. You see, the Legendary Pokémon suits a Trainer like me who has sworn to become the strongest Trainer. A battle with Team Rocket Grunts is just right for you," he explodes at the end.

"Are you implying that I'm only good enough to do your dirty work? Dusk and I here will prove you wrong," I state while sending Dusk out to battle.

Silver sends out his Level 20 Gastly. I guess he's been grinding hard recently. Like I need to after this battle.

"Gastly, use Lick," Silver commands.

"Dusk, dodge it, and use Astonish!"

Gastly outspeeds Dusk to land his Lick, reducing her HP by a fifth. Luckily, she doesn't get paralyzed.

Dusk looks disgusted at being licked, and she ambushes Gastly with her Astonish for half of his HP in damage.

"Grrr, Gastly, use Confuse Ray," Silver shouts out in frustration.

"Dusk, dodge it, and use your Confuse Ray!"

Gastly is still faster than Dusk, but both of them hit each other with their Confuse Rays at the same time. Both of them become confused, missing their targets and reducing their HP by a fifth.

"Come on, Dusk, snap out of it, and use Astonish!"

"Gastly, use Lick," Silver bellows.

Gastly hits Dusk again with Lick for another fifth of her HP in damage. Unfortunately for us, the Lick paralyzes Dusk.

"Gastly, use your Lick again!"

"Dusk, finish this with your Astonish," I counter.

Gastly misses in his confusion, and he gets another fifth of damage.

Unfortunately for him, Dusk snaps out of her confusion, fighting past her paralysis to land her Astonish attack, and knocking him out instantly.

"Dusk grows to Level 20," My Pokédex congratulates Dusk.

"Are you kidding me," Silver growls, "Gastly, I know you can do better than that, you shit," he insults his Gastly while recalling him.

"Will you shut the fuck up and battle already," I demand of him.

He snarls in response, sending out a Level 18 Magnemite. I know Cyndi will be best for this, so I switch Dusk out for some rest.

"Magnemite, use Supersonic," Silver makes the first move.

"Cyndi, dodge it, and use your Flame Wheel!"

Cyndi is faster, and to Silver's frustration, she dodges Magnemite's Supersonic. Running into her Flame Wheel, Cyndi flattens Magnemite for a super effective instant KO.

Silver's face is showing a likeness to his hair. He recalls his Magnemite in silence, sending out his Croconaw to enact his anger.

"All right, Forest, take a shot at it," I send out Forest.

"Croconaw, use Ice Fang!"

"Forest, dodge it, and use Poisonpowder," I say anxiously, not being fond of Croconaw's new move.

Croconaw is faster than Forest, but Forest still manages to avoid Croconaw's Ice Fang, while also poisoning Croconaw. His HP reduces by a tenth.

"Come on, Croconaw, you can end this with one Ice Fang!"

"Keep dodging it Forest! Then use Vine Whip," I shout.

Forest somehow keeps managing to dodge Croconaw, hitting him with a critical Vine Whip for half of his HP in damage. I have the unfortunate thought that our luck is going to run out soon, though.

Another round of poison leaves Croconaw with 2/5ths of his HP left.

"Croconaw, finish him with your Ice Fang!"

"Dodge it, Forest, and use Vine Whip," I call out, but our luck predictly runs out as Croconaw crushes Forest with his massive freezing jowls.

Oh no, Forest," I exclaim in concern as I recall my fainted Forest.

"I finally crushed that stupid Bellsprout! I guess he's not as smart as you thought," Silver tries to taunt me.

"Oh shut up, Forest just needs more training. Anyway, I think Zellie will do for taking out your overgrown Croc," I spat back, "Zellie, use Sonicboom!"

"Croconaw, use Bite!"

Croconaw and Zellie have the same speed stat, according to my Pokédex. Croconaw manages to be faster, but in his eagerness, he trips and misses.

Zellie hits the fallen Croconaw, reducing his HP to almost none. Then, the poison hits him again, knocking him out.

Silver growls again before saying spitedly, "Out of desperation, weak people sometimes do okay at fighting back."

"You're just mad that I'm beating you at your own game," I retort back to him.

Silver stays silent as he sends out his last Pokémon, his Level 20 Zubat. I send out his nemesis, Spirit.

"Zubat, use Wing Attack," Silver tries a different strategy.

"Spirit, use your Faint Attack," I come back with.

Spirit disappears into her cloud of darkness, confusing Zubat, who's wondering where she went. After a second of looking, Spirit strikes him from behind for a little more than half his HP in damage.

"Zubat, come on! Use your Supersonic," snarls Silver.

"Spirit, dodge it, and use your Wing Attack!"

Spirit outspeeds Zubat, and she hits Zubat to end the battle.

"Humph," Silver grumbles as he recalls Zubat, "I'm not playing with another weakling ever again. It's just too much playing around."

"You just called the person who defeated you a weakling. How is that logical at all," I ask quizzically, "Besides, I think you like playing around with 'weaklings' more than you'd ever admit."

Silver growls and stares me down intensely again. I almost stop breathing when he steps up closer to me.

"Silver, what in the Distortion World are you doing-," I exclaim in shock before he interrupts me by grabbing me closer by the hair on the back of my head, and kissing me roughly.

The kiss is fierce, and I can't help but to kiss him back to fight for dominance. He's gripping the back of my hair roughly, making me moan in pleasure when he simultaneously bites my lip and grips my hair harder.

After a moment or two of passionate kissing in which I wrap my arms around his neck for guidance, he unexpectedly throws me off of him, and onto the wooden floor.

"What the fuck is your problem," I screech angrily at him, "First, you spy on me when I was talking to Morty, then you act all weird before battling me, you call me weak when you lost, and then you randomly kiss me, and throw me to the ground! What do you want from me, Silver?!"

"For once in your life, shut the fuck up and listen," he commands, rendering me silent.

"One," he continues, "That kiss never happened. Two, you would never be able to catch a Legendary Pokémon anyway."

And then he walks off like nothing ever happened. I'm too speechless to even yell or follow after him right now. He is so full of bullshit. That kiss never happened, but yet, he was the one to kiss me. How does that make sense? He is so weird. But so sexy. Ugh, why is romance so confusing?

I just had my first kiss. With Silver. It was the most amazing and horrible thing at the same time. Well, that's something to deal with later. I try to shake my head clear of my mushy emotions so I can focus on training and possibly taking on Morty's Gym. I heal all of my Pokémon, including reviving poor Forest.

The Team and I proceed to go on a training slaughter. Dusk takes out the two Level 16 Koffing's belonging to Fire Breather Ned, while Zellie puts out the fire of Ned's Level 17 Growlithe, and Fire Breather Richard's Level 18 Charmeleon. She gains enough experience to grow to level 17.

After defeating all the Trainers, Zellie follows me down into the basement, where the Legendary Beasts eye me from the left. Zellie and I go to step down the stairs, but as we do, all three Beasts emit a growling noise.

Then, Raikou sprints around in a circle before running off, while Entei follows after. Suicune makes a few more laps before stopping a few feet in front of me. Then, Suicune makes a fierce roar before sprinting off after the others.

Eusine comes rushing downstairs shouting, "Did you see it? Suicune raced by like a blur, right in front of my eyes! I have been chasing Suicune for almost ten years, but I have never been this close! I'm all choked up!"

"Are you all right," I ask in concern since he looks like he's about to have a heart attack.

"Yes," he responds, "I'm fine. By the way… It was clear to me that Suicunt took notice of your presence. Ecruteak's legendary Pokémon are said to come to people only when they recognize their talents. Perhaps I should be more aggressive towards Suicune… Anyway, Calypso, we will meet again," he finishes as he rushes back upstairs again.

Now that he's gone, Zellie and I take a look around the basement briefly where I find a few hidden items by tripping on them.

When we go upstairs, Morty and Eusine are gone. Already having had a full day in the span of a few hours, I decide to go heal my Pokémon at the Pokémon Center, and then head home for a snack and a few quick zzzs.

Upon opening the front door, Tina shouts from the kitchen, "Hey, kiddo, when you were out, I made Koffing cookies! They're coffee and chocolate flavored!"

I enter the kitchen where Tina has just finished icing the cookies. Taking one off the tray, I bite into it and smile.

"Tina, this is so good! Where did you learn how to bake like this?"

Tina grins brightly. "Where do you think? Your mom, of course! But baking is an art form itself, and you know how I love art."

I stare off into a daydream of kissing Silver when Tina notices that I'm dozing off.

"You all right, kiddo? You're looking all dreamy. Whatcha' think' about," she asks me.

"Tina," I begin with apprehension, "I battled my rival, Silver, in the Burned Tower, and after I beat him, he kissed me! And it was the best and worst thing that's ever happened to me!"

"Yep, I thought it was a boy. Tell me about this boy. And was it your first kiss?"

"Yeah," I nod, "It was my first kiss. And Silver… Ugh, he's insufferable. He always calls me weak and a wimp, but I always beat him in every battle. I just want to grab his red hair and yank it… so I can kiss him… Ugh, I hate myself."

"Calypso, don't beat yourself up for having feelings for someone. Although, it sounds like you partially hate this person. But being someone's rival can create some unbelievable sexual tension like you cannot believe. For example, when I joined my biker gang in Kanto, the female leader and I were rivals, and we had crazy chemistry. Her and I hooked up a few times, but it never turned into anything serious. Whatever you do, kiddo, use protection, okay? I don't need any grandchildren yet."

"Teeeennnaaa," I complain audibly, "You're embarrassing me!"

"You know I'm right, Calypso," Tina has her final word.

I eat a few cookies before I start to feel full and drowsy.

"Hey, Tina, do you mind if I go take a nap? I'm tired out from all the battling and random kissing that happened."

"Yeah, sure, go ahead. Your old room has a big enough bed, since I've replaced it in the hopes that you would come home someday. Sleep tight, Calypso," Tina wishes as I give her a hug, and then walk to my old childhood room.

The room looks the same, except for the bigger bed. I plop down upon it, and release my Pokémon so they can rest too. Spirit and Forest perch on my headboard, while Dusk floats to the ceiling, and Cyndi and Zellie chill with me on the bed.

After a few moments of reminiscing of the day's happenings, I slowly drift off into sleep, my Pokémon following behind me.

*Third Person POV* *Goldenrod Hotel* *12:00pm*

After having discussed Calypso's child abuse case with Joyce Hutchinson, both JC and JP are still lounging in the hotel bed. Never of them see the point of putting their clothes back on since JC is on vacation for the day, while JP asked her boss if she could use one of her vacation days. As she'd been working so hard recently, her Sergeant figured, "Why not?"

JC rolls over onto JP, resting her head in the valley of her breasts, listening to her steady heartbeat.

"You hear something you like," JP flirts with her.

"Of course," JC replies, stretching up to kiss JP softly.

A minute of two passes by, and JC and JP only stop to breathe. Moving down to cuddle on JP again, JC squeals when JP grabs her ass playfully.

"I touched the butt," JP giggles.

"You've been watching Finding Goldeen too much, love," JC banters back to her.

"Love," JP questions, "I like the sound of that. If I'm your love, then you're definitely my babe."

"Okay, love, I'll be your babe."

Both JC and JC laugh a bit before going back to kissing again. JC then goes back to resting her head on JP's chest, while JP wraps her arm around JC's side.

"You feel like home," JC murmurs into JP's chest.

"Good," JP replies, "I want you to always feel safe with me."

"I do," JC expresses before they both fall back to sleep.

*Third Person POV* *Cianwood City* *11:00am*

After the ferry drops Ruth, Monica, and Donald off in Cianwood City, the Terrible Trio makes the 15 minute walk to the northernmost part of Cianwood City, where Ruth's home is located.

They beat Chuck there by a mere five minutes.

"So I have two rooms available. There's a small guest room, and there's Calypso's old room, which is bigger with a large closet. I still need to clear out Calypso's room if you want it, and I figured we could burn all of the stuff she left behind. Sound like a plan to you guys, "Ruth suggests.

"Sure, I need a large closet for my costumes anyway," Donald accepts, "I'd love to clear Calypso's old stuff and burn it."

"Yeah, let's burn it," Monica shouts in excitement.

So the three start clearing Calypso's old stuff, putting it into a pile next to Ruth's fire pit. Chuck and his crew are instructed to bring Donald's stuff into Calypso's old room, aka Donald's new room.

After a half hour of lugging stuff in and out, the switch has finally been made. Chuck and his crew say their farewells to the three before returning to downtown Cianwood City.

"All right, kids, are you ready to burn this shit? I'm ready to send out Maggie to take care of this."

"I'm ready if you guys are ready," Donald exclaims.

"Yeah, let's do this," Monica cheers Ruth on.

"I'd suggest we toast marshmallows, but with the kind of stuff we're borning, it would probably make us sick," Ruth comments.

"Eh, we'll save that for another day. For now, let's watch Calypso's stuff burn," Donald persists.

"Step back, you two," Ruth warns them. The two step at least six feet back from the pit.

"Maggie, use your Lava Plume on the fire pit!"

Maggie spits lava on Calypso's belongings, igniting them instantly. The Trio can't help but feel soothed at the sight of the flames.

As the fire burns on, Monica asks Ruth,

"So, can I have your guest bedroom as my room so I can stay over? I'd love to be able to visit."

"Of course. It's a pretty blank slate right now, so it shouldn't be too hard to move some of your stuff in," Ruth replies heartily.

"Hey, Ruth," Donald expresses, "I mean, Gran. Thanks for giving me a home, and a true family."

"Yeah, thank you, Gran," Monica bundles the Trio into a group hug.

"Anything for my grandchildren," Ruth proclaims.

And that's the end of the chapter! How did you guys like it? I loved writing Calypso and Silver's kiss the most. Anyway, tell me your thoughts in a review if you have the time.
